I live in Virginia with my husband and 2 children. I make pottery, but, thanks to Harry Potter, I have rediscovered a passion for writing.
Reviews for Secret Recipe
Wow, that was total spy fail! Surely, Snape should know the old saying "know thy enemy", right? He really blew it with Skeeter and has now exposed the entire operation to failure. So much for a happy ending to this story. That dream was nice though in the previous chapter. Unfortunately, we I only see Azkaban in Snape's future and total ruin for Harry and Hermione. What a major Snape screw up!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Sorry to disappoint you so thoroughly, but how was he supposed to know that she was an unregistered Animagus? He did not continue to spy on wizards and witches at random, he has kept to himself for the past twenty years. And if she couldn't see him or hear him, and the event didn't take place at a location that she could connect to him, how could she know who he was?
Response from ladyljd (Reviewer)
I must have mis-read something. I thought she just hid in her animagus form while Snape searched the room. Yes, he was disillusioned but she would have seen the detections spells he threw around the room. I figured she saw his blur then hitched a ride back to Spinner's end when the apparated back.I'm kinda glad I'm wrong but I don't think my assumption is completely out of line. And I still think he should have wondered if she had transformed when he couldn't find her in the room and believed it was humanly impossible to escape.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I put myself in her place. If I had been kidnapped and I had a chance to escape, would I have chosen instead to hang around and find out who was responsible, or would I have saved my hide and gotten the hell out? I figured her instinct for self-preservation overruled her curiosity.Having said that, your presumption was not off base at all. In fact, so many others seem confused about what happened, and for many different reasons, that my next chapter will be told from Rita's perspective as she makes her way home. I hope it will clear up some of the many questions out there. In retrospect, it should have gone into this chapter, right after Snape and Winky left, but I wasn't planning to even write it until the responses and concerns started rolling in.
Response from ladyljd (Reviewer)
In retrospect I can see where a bit from Rita's prespective is a good idea. Thanks for choosing to clear up all confusion. Sounds like a great idea to me and I'm looking forward to seeing what she did. Now that I see what you mean, I can completely understand her focus on self-preservation over the pursuit of her abductors. When I first read the chapter she seemed more angry and curious than afraid for her safety.Regardless, I'm still loving this story and can't wait to read more of whatever you choose to write - however you choose to write it!
Great update - very happy to see you back!Sneeky Skeeter! If she was still in the room, she'll know that it's Severus, won't she??It's getting tense!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
He kept himself Disillusioned and would only whisper if he needed to speak with Winky, so she might not have been able to figure it out. His voice is very distinctive, but it loses most of it's uniqueness when reduced to a whisper. So she couldn't hear him or see him.But they are on even ground because he has no idea that she is an unregistered animagus! My life is slowing down a bit now, so hopefully I will not be so long between chapters any more. Thanks so much for sticking with me.
I think Severus may have forgotten to take Rita's Animagus form into account. Sneaky little beetle could have overheard him and Winky... she could be serious trouble and endanger all their plans. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out what happened... and what will they do about it?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Snape does not know that Rita is an UNregistered animagus. He has no idea that she can turn into a beetle. And he is too embarrassed to tell anyone what happened, so he will not found out anytime soon.HermioneDiggory's response: Ruh-roh!!!
so theyre sharing dreams already. its almost as if they're visions....and ill bet winky has everything to do with it.im saddened that there is no more to read currently. :D i (im)patiently wait the coming of your next chapter. lol
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm glad you found my story, wyndfyr. Thanks for reading and reviewing. The next chapter is being written. Please be patient. RL is getting in the way right now.
Gomez and Morticia? thats hilarious. :D now they just need to have a breed of owls and name them wednesday and pugsley. lmao. oh, can't forget lurch! "UUHHHHH...."
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I wonder what kind of bird Lurch would be? Perhaps not an owl, but a vulture! He has that vulture-like face.Glad you like my choice of names. They just came to me out of the blue.
Absolutely wonderful!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

That's a wonderful and really intense new chapter, thank you!
Author's Response: Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
In a way this chapter was quite amusing, Harry seems to have a 'talent' for reducing stressful situations.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I had hoped that people would at least get a chuckle out of this chapter. Thanks for letting me know that on some level, I succeeded. Thanks also for the stars, and of course, for your patience. The next chapter should be finished and into the queue in just a few days. :)
Love the e-mail address!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Snape has joined the 21st century!Glad you are enjoying the story. Thanks for leaving me a note.
I think she can definitely do better than the floor of the Shrieking Shack! :)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
No doubt. Bed, desk, recliner, kitchen table... you get the idea. :D
Fantastic update! The meeting at the Hog's Head was priceless. Aberforth style of vexing Severus had me in stitches. And the warm fuzzies between Sev and Hermione was just lovely. :D
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, I'm so glad you liked it. I love Aberforth. I have fond memories of some cantankerous old men in my life. I model him after them.
That was a great chapter. I just noticed a couple of things: I promise not to kill anyone – accept in self defense.” That should be except. And later you have Harry say that if the time Suite everyone. It should suit.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Wow! All the people who looked at that chapter and we all missed those two things. I also correct typos in my comments to other authors sometimes. Thanks so much. I always appreciate stuff like that. I will make the changes. Thanks also for the nice review and all the lovely stars. :)
Hooray, new chapter! I really enjoyed having Aberforth show up with his feisty self. I always like seeing him show up in fanfics, and hope that he'll have an opportunity to stick his head in again in a future chapter or two... I could not believe how utterly clueless Harry was being after Sev left them in the Hog's Head! I know Hermione must have wanted to strangle him before they left the place! Too funny. At last, something useful to be able to do with those annoying fake credit cards that come in the mail. Well, with one of them, at least... And it's good to see Severus giving them some tips to help keep them under the blackmailer's radar. Hopefully they will do the trick, and if they already are under scrutiny perhaps the appearance of them losing the trail will prevent the culprit from taking action against them. And finally, I just gotta say that Hermione should have just leapt upon Severus and had her way with him! After all, there should be some fond memories of the Shrieking Shack for Sev, right? She'd be preventing the place from having solely negative connotations for him. It's for his own good. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, and thanks for your wonderful review.I appreciate your patience with my lengthy time between chapters. RL has gotten in the way a lot lately. As I just admitted to another reader, I would probably have jumped Snape's bones as well in that scene. It is much easier to write self-control into the characters than it is to use it ourselves! Both Hermione and Severus are more prudish than I would ever be.Thanks again for sticking with me.
Loved the moment between Hermione and Severus then. I would have just jumped on him to be honest haha. Great update.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
What's the saying? oh, yeah, "a hard man is good to find!"LOL! I must admit that I may have also jumped him, hard, dusty floor not withstanding. Thanks for taking the time to review,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. It means a lot.
Aww, "Forever yours" is just too wonderful, even if Hermione can't quite feel the reality of it yet. Charming those mailer credit card things is a stroke of brilliance, carrying on with the money theme but giving it a modern twist. The first time I read this, I started crying as they stood there, holding each other. Beautiful and sad and hopeful... The wait for more is already killing me.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thank you for your kind words,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
.I am a hopeless romantic at heart. My goal in writing this story is to make my readers laugh as well as shed the occasional tear. But fear not, I also believe in happy endings, although it will still be quite some time before we get there.
Wow, what a way to return to this story. That was wonderful.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm so glad you approve,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. Thanks for your patience.
Oh no! I have run out of story :( I have really enjoyed how far this tale has progressed and look forward to more. Thanks much for writing.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm so glad you have enjoyed it thus far. Please be patient with me. I'm afraid that RL has gotten in the way of my writing of late, so it could be a couple of weeks before the next chapter goes up. I will never abandon this story, but sometimes it takes a while between chapters.
faboo update!! loved snapey's line about what they do with that knowledge! boy oh boy i hope it's umbitch. she never got her just desserts...ok, now it's up to you! thanks so much
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. Yes, holding a gun does not make a person a killer. It's how they chose to use the gun.Glad you enjoyed the chapter. Umbridge is going to get hers in the end, don't worry. Thanks so much for reviewing. :)
Winky was amazing, Snape needed that. I think she may have got through to Severus, now I think the rest is up to Hermione.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Yes, it is up to Hermioine, but Hermione will need a lot of help, though. And she will get it, don't worry. Thanks so much for reading and for taking the time to review.
I just adored the conversation SS had with Winky. It brought tears to my eyes!!! I am going to be royally irked at Kingsley if he doesnt give SS fair billing in his new business venture. Surely the former beloved Minster standing up for him would draw crowds?? I remain nervous about DU. You arent going to reassure me are you?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I just love Winky. That's why I chose to make her his house-elf.But Kingsley really can't let anyone know that Snape is making potions for his food. It is a business decision. Who would dare to taste food tainted with potions created and brewed by a Death Eater and (in the opinion of most) a murderer? That's the way the public sees Snape, and if Kingsley wants his restaurant to succeed, he can't let that info get out.So please don't be too mad at Kingsley. At least he's willing to give Snape a job.
Its only right that the children defend their father even if he is an ass! Im glad it didnt go all smoothly with hugs and play dates. This was far more realistic. Im interested to learn what SS thinks of the blackmail.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I felt like Rose had every right to be mad at Snape for his comment, but she took it a bit too far, so he snapped, as he tends to do, and overreacted. Like you said, more realistic than peaches and cream.
Poor Winky, she deserved so much better than the Crouches. And Umbridge? I guess she knows where alll the skeletons are.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Severus treats Winky right. He was not brought up like an arrogant pure-blood.And Umbridge has a full set of skeletons in her own closet. It will be fun to uncover them. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Yay, another eventful chapter, although it makes me dispair that the story will find a happy conclusion any time soon. I started to cry when Winky was telling Severus her observations of him. Well done!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Don't worry, Merrin, we still have a ways to go.I'm glad you were touched by Winky's speach. Thanks so much.
I don't remember if I reviewed the last chapter but I loved the Snape/Rose confrontation. I enjoyed watching her squrim under his gaze and revalation of new information. I'm sure she'll come around eventually.I also loved the Snape/Winky conversation. It's nice to know he had someone to confide in during those soliatry years after Azkaban. Now, I can't wait to see how you resolve the situation he's in due to the unjust conviction. I'm sure Umbridge is behind it and I can't wait for her to finally get what's coming to her! And Kingsly being willing to work with him is a nice sign. Maybe there's other reasonable wizards out there? And Arthur Weasly to the rescue for Minister? We'll see ...
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm glad you enjoyed the last two chapters,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. Snape and Rose will have a few more confrontations before he wins her over completely.Yes, the fun from here on out will be to see how they catch Umbridge and what it will take to overturn Snape's conviction. I love happy endings, but we have a ways to go before we get there.
Hmm, who would the Trio support as Minister? Could Hermione throw her hat into the political ring?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hermione is a Muggle-born witch, and too many blood-snobs are still out there who would simply not accept her as Minister. But there are plenty of others who would be acceptible. I have someone in mind, but I don't want to give too much away.
