whoa! now there's a time limit! umbitch!!! my insides curdle at the thot!. great update. thanks so much
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
UMBITCH indeed. I love it!!Yes, now the pressure is really on to prove their case. Don't worry, our little band of friends will somehow pull it off.
Harry's right, Severus needs to be needed--and maybe Shacklebolt's offer to help him with his upcoming restaurant will be the next step in that direction. I'm glad he doesn't want Sev to actually work in the restaurant, however... I just imagine that Severus would be like Lenny Henry's character in the Brit series Chef, ripping the customers a new one and telling them how insanely stupid they were when they didn't properly appreciate his food! So now Harry and Hermione have a brand new reason to get dirt on Umbridge, to keep her from becoming the next Minister of Magic. Having to choose between Umbridge and Fudge--the Manipulator or the Moron? Talk about a tough choice. I know, George Weasley needs to run! The proverbial dark horse candidate, so cunning and sharp that nothing will get past him. The joke shop can do without him for a few years, Wizarding Britain needs him more!
And finally on a serious note, I really enjoyed the heart to heart that Snape and Winky shared in this chapter. She really laid things out for him and didn't shy away from his faults, but still let him know what a genuinely good person she knows him to be. I'm glad he takes her opinion so seriously, and that he was able to leave the conversation feeling a little better about himself and the future.

Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. Thanks for reading and for such a wonderful review.I have never seen the Brit series Chef, but I can definitely see Severus reaming the customers when they didn't like his food.I like your idea of George as Minister, but somehow I don't think George would like that job. I have someone in mind, though. I think you will approve of my choice. And as for Winky - she is a darling who knows what Severus needs better than he knows himself! Her opinion really does matter, and he really did take her words to heart.
I totaly loved the conversation between Severus and Winky. It brought me to tears! She was totally the right character to tell him the truth and for him to believe it!Thanks so much for writing this, it's wonderful.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. I'm so glad you are enjoying this story. I just love Winky. The meek ones who serve the rest of us quite often are the wisest and best observers of human nature. She is one of those beings. He knows he can trust her to tell the truth. And her opinion matters to him. So I felt that her testimoney would have a greater impact than anyone else's.
Winky is such a darling! :)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Isn't she, though! Thanks for sticking with me, sunny. :)
Wonderful chapter. I loved Winky showing Snape all the things he has in his heart. Brings tears to the eyes.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks. Snape really needs to see himself through someone else's eyes.
Thank you for crafting such a wonderful story. I am truly looking forward to reading more. Your believeable and loveable representation of these characters is breath-takingly well done. I must say, this is one of the most realistic character interactions...either in the 'ship' or in general fiction... that I've had the pleasure to have read.My only regret is that I devoured your story up to this point--it has left me hungry for more...I should have savored it like one of Severus' gift chocolates. Awaiting the queue to release your next chapter!Fondest regards,Mione
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Wow! Mione, I am humbled and honored by your praise. Having many years of experience to draw from, I imagine being there for their conversations, and I write the way I talk, or the way that I imagine they would talk. Then I go back a couple of days later and re-read and anything that doesn't flow gets changed. I probably read over stuff at least five or six times before it even goes to my betas. Sometimes changing just one word can make all the difference. Thanks again for your compliments. I appreciate them very much. Thanks also for reading and taking the time to review. This has been a fun story to write. I'm glad you are enjoying it as well.Take care,CP
More please m o r e!!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Your review gave me a chuckle. Thanks for the enthusiasm.I plan to put the next chapter in the queue today, but if the queue is long, it could still take a while. Hang in there. :)
yes, he is! yes, he is! hermione and hugo will show him! and rose will come arround (i hope). thanks so much
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I agree with you, Kimjo2, Severus is very much worth loving. Someone asked me just the other day why I was a Snape fan (my license plates actually say "SNAPE FN"). Most people don't look very deep when it comes to Snape. I think Hermione is like the rest of us. She sees into his soul and can tell what a good person he is under all of the gruffness.Don't worry, Hermione won't give up on him. Neither will Hugo, and there are a couple of other people in his corner. You'll see. :)Thanks so much for sticking with me...
Great next chapter, and so soon after the last! Hooray, I'm getting spoiled again... I can see that things between Severus and Rose will be rocky for a while, especially if she manages to get it into her head that he's to blame for her parents splitting up. I hope that won't happen, but it certainly could. And since he's got such a low self-esteem already, Rose's rejection will just add fuel to the fire that he's not good enough for Hermione and her family. Arrgh! It all gets back to Umbridge and exposing her plots. Flatten the Toad, get her out of any position of authority, have a re-trial for Severus and make it public knowledge that he had a hand in getting justice for all those people who were blackmailed. Public opinion reverses, and he has no further excuse for resisting Hermione's advances. Simple. I'm sure he can wrap all that up in the next ten or so chapters, right?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Yes, I'm ashamed to say that the plot is a bit predicable, but it would have been too easy for both Rose and Hugo to like him right away. And it was too much fun to resist making Umbridge the villan. And the trick is how to get Umbridge out of the way. She will fall eventually. I hope you can be patient and enjoy the ride as we slowly achieve our goal of a SS/HG ship.
That was intense. I agree with them though. Rose should be aware of recent history. She needed to be put in her place; insolent, cheeky child that she is. Boy, I hope Hermione can wear old Snape down. He does deserve happiness and so does she.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Yes, I agree, Rose does indeed need to be put in her place. I think that Snape used a great deal of restraint before he snapped, but I can't blame him for snapping.Rose (in my story) is a combination of Hermione's intelligence and Ron's brashness. More friction with Snape is bound to happen. It would have been too easy if Snape had gotten along with both kids from the beginning. And take heart where Hermione and Severus are concerned. The story will have a happy ending... eventually.

Brilliant chapter! To see Snape showing other facets of his character fits well in the story. How heart-wrenching to have him say so cleary he doesn't think himself worth loving. I suppose he will have to realise that himself, because he never would accept it said by someone else.
Author's Response: There are many withches and wizards who would share his opinion of himself, but Hermione is not among them (I'm not either, althought I understand why he believes that).
But he must love himself before he can expect anyone else to love him, and perhaps even before he can truly give his love to someone else. Herein lies the problem. He doesn't think he deserves it, so he prevents it from happening.
Don't worry, she'll convince him, with a little help from a couple of other key players.
Thanks for the review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter.
I can't wait to see what you come up with to get past his resolve!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
He will need something monumental to let Hermione in completely, but she will make it happen. Don't worry.
Nice chapter, Severus is still true to form, but you can see an effort being made to be a nicer guy. He had to be pushed before he snapped and he actually allowed Hugo to hug him. I think in time he will heal more.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I like to think that with 20 years of low stress and Winky doting over him, he has mellowed a bit. But he still doesn't have a very high opinion of himself in some respects. Thanks for sticking with me.:)
Poor Sev -- Perheps things will improve when Hermione and Harry get a retrial for him! It was a great chapter, thanks!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Their goal is a retrial, but they know that Umbridge has to go before it can happen. Now... How to get rid of the pink toad?
Ohy my god! What a stubborn man!!! I seriously hope he gives in soon, the suspense kills me!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Severus is very stobborn, almost as stubborn as Hermione! But as long as his criminal record is an issue, he will remain stubborn. Sorry. We have a ways to go. Hang in there!
Nice chapter, Rose's reaction was realistic, as was Hugo's defence. :)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
If Hugo blows up a cauldron full of potion in Hermione's kitchen, Snape may repremand the boy, but he will never lose his temper, because Hugo would never disrespect him. So Snape shouldn't be so hard on himself, but Snape will be Snape.I' glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reviewing.
Yes, there is angst, but the delicious UST makes up for it. "I have desires, too." Oh, Hermione, this man really needs some affirmation.I thought that the interplay between all the characters was charming, and I have totally spent hours watching lego-mation on YouTube.Brilliant chapter all around.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
My kids introduced me to lego-mation on YouTube. I am amazed at the creativity that is floating around in cyberspace. And you are right, Snape really needs some affirmation. And he will get it in the next chapter, but not from where you might think. Thanks so much for your high praise, Merrin. I truly appreciate it.

I've been meaning to review this for a while, sorry I've been remiss. I particularly love the fact that Severus was having Winky char his breakfast as some sort of slow-acting passive suicide...
Great story.
Author's Response: Hello, rdholmantx, and thanks for taking the time to review. It means a lot.
I'm glad you like my surly Snape. He doesn't want to commit suicide, but he doesn't want to hang around any longer than necessary, either.
*sigh* i'm so glad you're back. that was fun and lovely at the end. loved ron's teeny wienie! thanks so much
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Sorry to be so tardy in posting that last chapter. I'll try to do better from now on.I'm glad you enjoyed my little joke on Ron.Thanks for sticking with me. :)
10 points to your house for allowing Hermione & Severus to have a conversation about WHY having a relationship at this time would not be a good idea instead of Severus nattering on about the owls. Whew!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
He is as brave as any Gryffindor, but when it comes to love, he is a total wimp! He had to psyc himself up for it, and she had to back him into the perverbial corner. Men!Thanks,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, for reading and reviewing and for all of those pretty stars.
No no no!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Soooory. Hang in there. It will all work out.
Wow! While I'm still annoyed as He@# about their situation I really loved this chapter. Very nice update! In this stark view of British wizarding society the only choice they have is to go after overturning his conviction. It's either that or simply staying away from each other because I just can't imagine being "best friends" working for very long. I do have one question about the dreams they've been having. Are they sharing them? If so, does that mean they are already linked somehow? Maybe that is a path toward a solution for them? I'm very intrigued with the idea that their feelings for each other may have bonded them together somehow. And least in sleep.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hemrione swore in the very first chapter that she would do all in her power to keep his reputation untainted. Although she did not succeed in the beginning, she has not given up either. It will all fall into place eventually, with some help from their friends. As for the dreams. I made them see the same things because I wanted to convey that this is more than a crush or infatuation on their parts. They are connected on a higher, spiritual level, and time and distance cannot keep them apart, no matter how bad things get. They don't realize this connections yet, they only feel the love and intense need for each other at this point. But the day will come... Dont' worry.
Gahhhh! Snape is harder to crack than Voldemort... It may be time to call in some reinforcements. Great chapter - I'm looking forward to the next one!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
If there is one thing that Snape proved during his time as a spy, it is that his will power is beyond most people's comprehension.Everything will fall into place, but reinforcements will definitely be needed for that to happen. Thanks for chiming in,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. I'm glad you are enjoying my little tale.
That doesnt mean that I have to like it, she said with a sniff and a glare of mock irritation.
Okay, that bogus charge has got to go because none of us like it, lol.
UST indeed. ~wonders how long the line is to take pot shots at our favorite couple, goes to gather rocks to hurl at them...~
Wonderful chapter, can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
ROFL!UST is my favorite thing to write, in case you hadn't guessed that already.Glad you liked it, FlitterKat. Thanks for the review.
Lovely story -- I'm betting that Ron is the blackmailer. He just seems so evil in this tale.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hi sherri. So glad you like my story. So far I have seen many theories as to the blackmailer's identity, but you are the first to suggest Ron! Interesting... But I must keep my mouth shut so I don't spoil anything down the road. Sorry.
