I live in Virginia with my husband and 2 children. I make pottery, but, thanks to Harry Potter, I have rediscovered a passion for writing.
Reviews for Secret Recipe
That Potions book keeps coming back to haunt him! :)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I think that now, finally, it has been put to rest.
I know I have already reviewed, and I know that you are working on this despite RL getting in the way as it is wont to do. But, I always have this fear that authors who don't update for a long period of time start convincing themselves that no one cares if they ever post again because the story is long forgotten. Sooooo, I am doing my community service for the month by dropping in to reinforce the fact that there are people out here eager to know what becomes of these two and their awful situation. Keep writing, even if it is slow going. You can do it! *is inspirational*

, I appreciate your nudge. Not a day goes by that I don't think about this story and my deep need to finish it. As I may have mentioned, I do have 4 more chapters done. I also have a weekend coming up where I will be escorting my daughter to a 3 day workshop. She will live on campus and I will be sitting in a hotel room with nothing to do. I told my husband I wanted to work on this story while I was away. If I can come close to finishing it, I may start posting again. It is done in my mind, just typing it all out is the time consuming part. Have faith. I WILL finish this. I would not leave you all hanging, although I'm sure that some of my followers have long ago given up hope.

Soooo, what are the chances of getting a ch or two to tide us over till you finish?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
That's a good question... I will probably have to disappoint you on that one, though. I have been working slowly, and the remainder is complicated. I read other people's stories as they post, and I get frustrated because I forget what's going on if they take too long between postings. I don't want that to happen to my readers. So I would rather wait until I can post it in rapid succession. Sorry.Be patient. I'm really pleased with what I have so far.
Response from mlmonty (Reviewer)
Guess I'll just have to wait. I do understand what you mean though. I'm normally good about weekly updates myself but I go months between stories so that I have enough beta'ed to do that. I'm glad that you're pleased with what you have so far! I look forward to it.
I caught up with the story after some time. It is going very well. I like the blackmailing strain. Harry is placed strangely in your world. How can he be so clear on Hermione and Hermione/Snape issue while so muddled about Ron and the pureblood twist on the world that he saved from Voldemort?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Perhaps Harry just wanted to see the best in Ron and didn't want to think that his best friend would ever stoop so low. Thanks for reading,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. I'm glad you caught up with my story. Now if I could only catch up with my real life responsibilities, I could write the next chapter...
Timing Draco, timing as a Slytherin you should be ashamed. I feel the same as Hermione, damn Severus for being right, when children are involved they have to come first, untill they can stand on their own two feet.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Severus has little tolerance for children as a general rule, but he knows what it is like to have an unstable childhood and what it can do to a person. He wouldn't wish that on anyone, and he'll do what he can to help Hermione's kids have a good upbringing. Thanks for taking the time to review. And yeah, Draco's timing leaves much to be desired!

Poor Severus, but I think if Hermione puts her mind to it things will change.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
They will both need to work together to change things. And they will need a bit of help from their friends, but take heart. Everything will eventually work out.
Snape's being too noble. Hermione needs to insist that they follow their hearts.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
She will, to a certain degree.
i don't know what to say...he's right but there must be something else she could do besides work for the ministry or hogwarts. but i trust you so i know things will work out in the end. thanks so much.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Of course, there are many other jobs out there that Hermione would be good at and qualified for. But so many people are warey of Snape that they might be afraid to hire her if her romance with him were known. Remember, she is still a celebrity, even after all these years, and his reputation is dark and infamous. She doesn't like the spotlight, but she doesn't have much choice in the matter, as we saw with Rita's latest article. And the last time he appeared in public to mail a package... Well, let's just say it was a fiasco.Dont' worry, it will all work out in the end.
Ack! The timing! Thanks for a great update. Will this angst ever resolve itself?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I promise that, yes, the angst will eventually resolve itself. In the mean time, they always have their dreams...
arrrghhhh!!! Bloody Slytherin!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm so evil to lead you all on like that. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.
AAAAGH!! Snape is too noble for his own good. But if they have Harry backing them, shouldn't that be good enough? Nah, it wouldn't. But if Ron?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Snape killed Dumbledore. And the wizarding world sent him to Azkaban for it. No matter what Harry or Ron say, the rest of the wizarding population only knows what they read in the Prophet. Public perception is key, especially where teachers and children are involved. Hogwarts can't afford to have families pulling their kids out of the school because they don't trust the integrity of one of its teachers.Don't worry. I know it is frustrating. But everything will eventually fall into place for our couple.

Oh my, the poor dears! Life can be so extremely cruel. It's really a no-win-situation, and their world is much too small for a true escape and solution. I'm really curious what you are going to have in stow for them! Because I am full of hope that you won't leave them there.
Author's Response: I feel that if Hermione didn't have kids, she and Severus would run away together and make a life in a different country. But that is not possible as long as the kids are not adults.
Don't worry, we won't have to wait until Hugo is 17 for them to get together. The pieces will fall into place...
Such a stuborn man!
I knew the rose was off Severus! Krum's silly bird ruining everything.
Right, it's now time for Hermione to wear him down and make him see sense. Also it's about time they called each other Severus and Hermione. I've finished with my little rant haha. Look forward to the update!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I know this sounds odd, but I keep their names the way I do because I am writing the story from both of their points-of-view. When it is Snape's POV, he thinks of himself as "Snape" and her as "Miss Granger." From her POV, she is "Hermione" and he is "Professor Snape." The formality keeps them at a slight emotional distance. But if you notice, in their dreams, they refer to each other in the informal, that is their subconscious bubbling forth their innermost wishes and desires. So that is my literary reasoning behind what they call each other. Sorry, but you'll have to put up with it for a while longer.
Response from Nessa (Reviewer)
I totally understand why you keep this formality, and I agree with it, because it's a case of making the story work because as you say it keeps them at a slight emotional distance. I wasn't making a negative point about the story or the way you write. It's just the story, like I said if they finally do get together then 'in the story' the formalitites will change- well to Mr and Mrs Snape hehe.
Argh! I understand Severus' sentiments, but I hope that something will break loose to allow them both the happiness they both deserve.Severus' soliloque about his life and how if he should taint her own he would be even more ruined broke my heart. But I agree with Hermione what happens behind closed doors should be for the two of them only the rest of the world be damned. I would love to shoot, hex or evercerate who ever stuck Severus with those trumped up false charges.

Hi,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, and thanks for the insightful review. I wish for our couple's sake that what goes on behind closed doors stays there, but this is the wizarding world and...Well, you'll just have to keep reading (evil chuckle). The person responsible for Severus' conviction will most definitely fall from grace before the story's end. Worry not.
More misunderstandings abound. And even at the end when they've worked out what's happened, Snape still feels like he's responsible for everything and that's why they can't start anything. I mean, he lists all these good reasons, but you'd think that by caring for her as much as he does, he wouldn't want to see her unhappy. Settling for best friend helps, but will just cause distress on both sides I think.Loved the update, looking forward to the next chapter =)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
They will just have to manage as best friends for a while. I know from experience that it is hard, but it is possible. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.
If Snape thinks they can only remain friends, he is certainly kidding himself. especially seeing as he was planning on kissing her before Winky arrived. I know from life experience that it's really difficult to be friends with someone you are in love with. And for the other person to love you as well, just makes it that much worse. They certainly need to figure something out. Maybe just waiting would be fine and then eventually things will fall into place. They've come too far to not find the right relationship, which is obviously with each other.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, so nice to hear from you.I have some of the same life experiences as well. I know first hand just how hard it is for two people who love each other to remain only friends. But it is possible, especially when other innocent victims would be involved, namely her children. Again, I speak from experience here. But don't worry, the barriers between them will slowly fall away, but it will take much work on both their parts, along with some help from several other people. Thanks so much for your review.
So close and yet so far! You know you are a tease, Clay? :)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
UST is my favorite thing to write. Yes, I'm a tease, I know. Sorry. More dreams will be coming up soon. Stay tuned.
At least they are talking, they makes me feel a little better. How long until his resolve breaks down, or she wears him down?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
That will be a long time coming. Sorry. When Snape makes up his mind about something... Well, we all know how stuborn he can be.
Damn, stupid, honourable, sexy, noble, stubburn, hot-as-hell, talented, witty, intelligent, gentlemanly wizard!!!!! Grrrr. Why did his kind heart have to get in the way!?! *rant ends* Excellent. All I can ask is that when they DO get together, it should be the mother of all lemons. *evil grin*
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
More dream lemons are in the offing. I know it isn't quite the same, but they will have to suffice for a while. Thanks for reading and reviewing. :)
Oh, I knew it--about the rose. He would be much more observant and thoughtful. I'm so glad he forgave her. The last scene there was so very touching. Though I know that the interruption was the best thing for the story, it didn't keep my heart from lurching. I hope Ron can reign in his lawyer.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Yes, there was a hint about the rose in the previous two chapters, but I purposefully mislead everyone. I'm so evil. Thanks, Merrin, your reviews mean so much.
Response from WriterMerrin (Reviewer)
You are very welcome, and I agree with Nessa that best friends really should call each other by first names ;)
Oh no! Talk about being at cross-purposes! This is a brilliant emotional rollercoaster - thank you.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks so much. The ride continues...
This story just gets better with each chapter. It's kind of like a fine wine that deepens in flavor with age. Great job!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Wow! What wonderful words of praise. Thank you so much. I will endeavor to continue to bring you tasty chapters!
hello? anyone here? please, don't let us wait any longer, we have indeed been veeery patient!
After your last long break, you promised you would never again let us hanging for years between updates! and now it is nearly 2 years once more! please, continue! I dearly love your story and want to know how it ends!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. I am still here. I haven't had time to read other people's stories for a while, much less work on my own. My life is insane right now. But I hear your plea. I still have work and school going on, but the overtime at work had dried up, so perhaps I can squeeze in some writing time now. I promise I will try harder than I have been trying for the last two years. Trust that the story has never been far from my mind or heart.
Response from Slytherinwitch (Reviewer)
Hello! I know how much real life can interfere... I am happy to read your reply and really hope for an update as soon as you find the time. I am sure others are waiting, too! this story is so well written and very fascinating, I really want to know how it ends!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hello
I was feeling so proud of Severus for not going over the deep end when he read Rita's article and then I got to the last line. That man is so stuborn! Will there be actually conversation between the two of them next chapter? I liked the way you did the Viktor/Hermione conversation and the Severus/Harry one. It was not confusing at all. Well done
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Severus was very tempted to go over the deep end when he read Rita's article, but he also doesn't want anyone to know how he feels about Hermione. He is very stuborn, indeed! Thanks for reading and reviewing. The reviews mean so much.
