After over nineteen years of seclusion, Snape receives a letter from Hermione Granger-Weasley asking for his help. His decision to get involved changes his life forever. Canon compliant, even though Snape survives.

I live in Virginia with my husband and 2 children. I make pottery, but, thanks to Harry Potter, I have rediscovered a passion for writing.
Reviews for Secret Recipe

Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thank you,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, for your rave review. I'm glad you like the idea of Sev testing his own recipes at Draco's expense. A very Slytherin thing to do!
Again, I'm enjoying your easy to read style of writing.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I tend to write the way I talk, although my "Snape speak" is a bit more high minded than I am. LOL
I hope the potion works. A very enjoyable chapter, I am having fun reading this.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks, I hope it continues to be fun.
I'm starting to wonder if I have read this before, or perhaps something similar. I'm really enjoying this story though.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I have read several FFs that start up much later in our hero's life, but never one like this. I know there is a ton of FF out there, however, but I have never read on similar.Perhaps you started to read this one then drifted away. I hope one of my later chapters didn't turn you "off". I have read stories like that, things are progressing well, then a chapter comes along that I dislike so much that I stop reading the story. I hope that doesn't happen here, but no one is perfect.
Response from sinbad (Reviewer)
Usually if I start a story I finish it. It is possible that I accidentally took off a bookmark, but I didn't see a review for the first chapter either.
You certainly caught my interest. I'm not surprised by the way Severus was treated, nor his reaction. Very believable canon like storyline.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks. Glad you found it.
Oh no!! Drat that Rita Skeeter! But hopefully they will work things out, soon... and I love how Severus is getting 10,000 galleons to proofread his own book, how very Slyterin of him! This was a really good chapter and I can't wait for the next one.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, for your kind words.I thought that Severus would really relish the chance to scam Draco, like beating him at his own game after all these years. Well, Draco is very wealthy and he can afford it!The next chapter was just sent to my beta. She's pretty quick, so I will hopefully post it soon.
cool , sneaky, slytherins
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. That was the goal.
Maybe in different locations people use different terminology ... but it has been my experience that your, "start-struck fan" should be star-struck, and later on the "start-crossed lovers" should be star-crossed. I apologize, if I am wrong.I got a great laugh out of Severus' so very Slytherin tactics in getting Draco to offer up more and more Galleons to proof-read his own book manuscript. Rake in the money and sit back for four days. Of course he has to appear as if he's working like mad. Good work if you can get it!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
You are absolutely right,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Corrections have been made.I guess since the word "start" was not misspelled, the spell check didn't catch it.Severus is no dummy. He knows that he will at least need to appear to be working hard with the testing. Draco is Slytherin as well, and Severus will be ready for him. Thanks again for catching my mistakes. Please feel free to point out stuff like that. I welcome it.
Ah - how convenient that he has been paid (very nicely) to review his own book! And Hermione did seem to forget that 'very public' also tends to result in 'very published.' Poor things.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I guess that Hermione never dreamed that a casual dinner betweet "friends" would be so grossly blown out of perportion. But I really had fun writing the scene between Draco and Severus. Such a Slytherin move on Snape's part. It just seemed to fit so naturally. Glad you enjoyed it too.
Oh that's just brilliant--Severus is getting paid ten thousand Galleons to read and review his own book! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! You know, Draco's a Slytherin too... he should have been just a little more careful with his business dealings with Severus, family friends or no. After all, for Slytherins friendship is one thing and good business quite another! I find it amazing that anyone at all would believe a word from Rita Skeeter's pen after all these years, but Severus is already predisposed to believing that no one could possibly love him so I guess I'll cut him some slack... just this once... Just have Hermione kiss him into insensiblity already! Regarding Viktor, she's a better person than I am. I wouldn't have been willing to meet with him so soon (if ever) after what happened, even if I did think I could see where he could misconstrue events. "No" means "no", no matter what you thought was going on beforehand! Hopefully Viktor will be worth the trouble and once again a good friend. Maybe he'll even have some insight on who the blackmailer is!Keep up the great work, and I'll keep reading!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks so much,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, for your insightful review. Yes, Draco is also a Slytherin, but right now all he can see are the Galleons he will earn if he can get these texts into the bookstore and on the required reading list before school starts. His greed and sense of urgency have clouded his vision. Good thing for Severus. Eventually, Draco may find out, but I haven't decided yet.As for Snape believing Skeeter... Remember, he saw Hermione and Viktor together in Bulgaria, and he witnessed their "goo goo eyes" in person. People tend to read what they want to read into such statements. As you so aptly pointed out, Snape still doesn't believe that he is worth loving. And Viktor is not a bad person, but that night he was drunk and horney, which is no excuse for such behaviour. But I know from experience how alcohol can impead a person's judgment. So don't condemn him yet. Snape needs him as his literary agent. Thanks again for reading and reviewing.
Oh good grief! Here we go again! Will these two never learn to actually communicate? Severus said that she and Ron failed to communicate due to too many emotions in the mix and now he is doing the same thing. I wonder how he would feel if someone compared him to the carrot headed idiot with roots for brains?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I doubt that he would see it that way! I do see your point, however, since I can look at the situation more objectively than either of them can.Take heart. They will finally communicate face to face in the next chapter.
What a great chapter! I loved the dialogue with Harry and Severus and also with Krum and Hermione. Poor Snape can't catch a break can he? I can't remember what else he could be mad at other than Hermione meeting with Krum after her last experience. Did I miss something? Did I mention that I loathe Rita Skeeter? Snape's book right?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
You may have missed something, but I actually intensionally misled my readers, so I was hoping that most people would miss the reason that Snape is mad. You will understand everything in the next chapter. I can't say anything more without giving it away. Sorry. Hang in there.
Response from snapesphoenix (Reviewer)
LOL -
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
And I forgot to answer your questioin about Snape's book - Yes, Draco just paid Snape a huge amount of money to test the recipes in his own book. Just shows you that once a Slytherin, always a Slytherin.
Response from snapesphoenix (Reviewer)
To true... Yay for Sev!
Silly man, go talk to her and she'll explain all. Then it's your turn matey!
Plus I think Rita needs putting back in a jar!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Clever,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. You are the only person so far who remembers that Rita can at times fit into a jar! Good work!
Twit. Go talk to her! :)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
He tried to talk to her, remeber? She wouldn't open her door for him. So now he is getting her back... He is a Slytherin, after all.
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
True. They could go on forever, leaping from misunderstanding to misunderstanding...
Oh my..Hopefully he will get over himself before he screw up his new chance.waiting for more wonderful writing.patty
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Snape has more to be mad about than just the article, as you will see in the next chapter. So don't judge him too harshly yet. Thanks, patty, for chiming in.
Response from pickles (Reviewer)
Oh okay if you say so..What else could he be upset about?Do I need to start from the beginning of the story and read?;0)
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
No, you don't have to go back and read from the beginning. But Hermione is about to discover a bit of a mystery, and it will shed some light on Snape's sour attitude.
Well, Hermione and Severus are both emotionally invested in the other but circumstances are definitely getting in the way. I'll bet Hermione never thought going to a public dinner with Victor would cause just as much trouble as the last dinner, sigh. Interesting chapter, can't wait for the next one. I'm ready for things to go their way.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I think that we're all ready for things to go their way. Be patient, it will happen eventually. :)Thanks,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, for leaving a comment, and for all of the pretty stars!
Oh, you can't make it easy for them, can you? I loved your update!I liked the meeting with Harry a lot. He simply cannot forget his years as a pupil, whatever happened afterwards. Snape cannot forget them either, since he is constantly reminded of them. It will take another decade or so till these two can simply have a chat. Good not to depict Viktor purely as a brainless villain, although it doesn't harm that he felt he had behaved like one.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Where's the fun in easy? Not to mention the plot?I had fun writing the meeting between Harry and Snape. I just felt that Harry would still find him so intimidating, even after everything they had been through together. And my version of Viktor is a flawed, complicated man who may have let fame go to his head a little too much. I have a friend who became famous and got into trouble with drugs and women, so I know that even people who seem strong can fall into that trap. My friend is not a bad person, but it took a long time for him to straighten himself out.
Winky needs to go back to serving him burnt toast if he really believes the story Rita wrote. Men!Looking forward to the next update. This is a really fun story.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm so glad you are enjoying my story, aeron. I'm certainly having fun writing it.
Noooo!!!! That's just too complicated for words... I cna't believe he would take the word of the PROPHET for goodness sake... *hits Severus with rolled up newspaper*Men! Honestly!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Aah, remember, Snape thought he saw them making "goo goo eyes" at each other when they all had lunch in Bulgaria, so why shouldn't he believe Rita's article?Take heart,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, many of these complications will be ironed out in the next chapter. But you may still want to hit Severus with a rolled up newspaper!
Huh? What is he on about? He should know better than to believe in anything Rita Skeeter writes...
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
He's not just mad about the Skeeter article, but you'll have to wait until the next chapter to find out what else he "thinks" she has done.
Really enjoying this! Hermione is a very loving, naturally forgiving type of person. So it's only surprising that she met with Viktor because it's not something I would have done any time soon. (At the most, in her position, I might have exchanged letters for a while...) Although (to Severus) it looks like she was willing to forgive her attacker before she forgave her friend, she had already bought the chocolates (as a peace offering) before she got Viktor's flowers. Also, considering the fact that she's at least half in love with Severus and hardly knows Viktor anymore (if she ever really did), Severus' percieved actions probably hurt her more emotionally than Viktor's attack did. Laughed a bit at Draco for paying Severus so much money to review his own book. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! Severus should be smarter to take anything Rita Skeeter says at face value. The last line made me want to smack him. Hard. Looking forward to the next!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Snape's willingness to take Draco's money simply shows that he is still Slytherin to the core! And he is mad at more than just Rita's article. You'll find out what else has him riled in the next chapter.Glad you are enjoying this,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. Thanks for hanging in there.
Oh, I didn't find it confusing at all. I liked the way we could feel both of them coming to grips with the knowledge of the other's love simultaneously. I did wonder about the coworker who said a single rose had been delivered; it made me think perhaps Sev had sent something that Hermione had overlooked. Sev's last line is evil!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Thanks, Merrin. I'm glad you found the simultaneus conversations enlightening. From your reaction, the effect that I sought was achieved.Yes, Sev's last line is evil, but he's mad at more than just the article...
I'm glad Viktor apologized! That makes me feel better. I hope we are getting close to the end of the obstacles between them, though I am enjoying the 'chase'! =] This is such a 'page turner'. I hope you post again soon!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Yeah, I don't think that Viktor is any worse than quite a few men out there whose brain seems to turn off when they have too much to drink and the hormones take over. He's not such a bad guy, just jumped to the wrong conclusion.I have a lot of RL stuff to deal with right now, but I will post again asap. Hang in there, and thanks so much for the review.
Stupid Rita Skeeter, always having to go and ruin everything. This reminds me a bit of Much Ado About Nothing, where Claudio and Hero are happy, then Claudio becomes upset after hearing a rumor, then back together, then Claudio becomes an idiot again, thinking that Hero would sleep with someone else the night before their wedding. Except that Snape and Hermione are both misconstruing what is going on in this story.Great chapter, look forward to the next one.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Misunderstandings abound when people jump to the wrong conclusion. Thanks for reading and reviewing. It makes me smile and keeps me motivated to write more...
Well I misread everything about the flowers in the last chapter. At least I'm not alone, Snape doesn't seem to be doing any better figuring out things.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I'm with Hermione - I prefer long-stem red roses. They smell heavenly, and it's hard to top their simple elegance...
