I´m glad -and envious! :)- about your enjoyment in Portus but I´ve truly been missing your fanfic too!! What a beautiful scene, that of Snape´s desesperation, his struggle -I don´t want her here / please let her come-... truly impressive. Before you ask, I´m NOT a sadist xD but I find this kind of emotional pain incredibly sad, yes, but beautiful nonetheless. I think this would be one of my favourites scenes in the story. Thanks again for this wonderful fic. xDD

Thank you, Persephone. It's funny, these are the things that come most naturally to me: human suffering, interior struggle, etc. I don't think I'm a sadist either, but I was thinking about this today while at work--I do find great beauty in pain. Collateral beauty, I guess. Thank you for such a lovely review. I'm so glad you're enjoying the story. xoxox

As I read the beginning of this chapter, I could taste Severus' loneliness and despair. "Don’t come here, Hermione, he thought, and right on the heels of it, Please come. I don’t want to do this alone." ..... “Come for me, Hermione,” he whispered, just before the alcohol accomplished what shock and exhaustion could not do alone ..."I could feel the fear that dogged Hermione's every step until... "Fear had left her nearly stricken as she reached for the doorknob, suddenly certain that it would not turn at all, that somehow Snape had died as she had ascended the stairs, and this would be how she found out. But the metal warmed in her palm and gave in easily to her touch." It wasn't until the door had opened at her touch that she truly knew her beloved still lived.Thank goodness for Arthur Weasley! Without his help, Severus might have remained all alone. But with Arthur's revelation of Severus' will, Hermione knew where to find her him.My absolutely favorite part of the story is when Hermione quitely tells her sleeping husband, “Whatever is coming, I will not leave you. Whatever they say, whatever they try to do to you, I won’t allow it. I swear to you.”Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You fixed it!!! Thank you!The road ahead will be difficult for both of them, but now I have hope again that, in the end, things will turn out better than they could have imagined in their wildest dreams. I have to hold onto my hope — it must be a fundamental trait of our species. I know I run the risk of disappointment, but I have to hope.Another amazing chapter from an amazing author!!! Well done!!!Beth

Beth, you're spoiling me. Really. Though I've received many, "Fix it!" reviews, I've never gotten a "You fixed it!" one, and this warms my heart considerably. I'm glad you feel, as I do, that no matter how horrifying the outside world, they have innate power between them, something that, if it does not conquer all, at least gives all a run for its money. Thank you for reading my story with such an open heart and for being so generous in your reviews. I treasure every one. xoxoxMeg

Very good as I very much expect!! Poor Severus thinking that she would not come. All good things come to those who wait. Thank God you are back!!! I was really getting worried about you! See you did not realize how many people think about you. I have checked everyday for an update just to know that you are still with us. Hope you had a blast!BIG HUGE HUGS THAT YOUR BACK!!!!!!!

Wow. What an amazingly emotional chapter. Made me shed more than one tear, too.I can't even pick out any single thing as my favourite - I loved everything here.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm so glad! Thank you so much. This felt daunting, as I am, essentially, beginning again now. It's a whole new world. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Oh gosh, thank you so much! For a while I was fearing you would actually let him die.*whew*As long as he's alive, there's still hope.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
You know, I'm actually really glad that you were nervous. I wasn't sure if I had forcasted the potion so heavily that it would be a foregone conclusion that he would live. And I'm very happy that you feel that as long as he's alive, there's still hope. I think that is my unspoken feeling, too.Thank you so much for reading and reviewing, Dream_Labyrinth!

Such angst. Such heart breaking emotional torture. Yet, through it all, love prevails. You write them so beautifully. You really let us see inside both of their heads, and IMO you are right on!Great job as always.

Thank you! I'm glad that their emotional life feels real to you. But I do promise to get out of the swirling pit of despair and get to some action next! More soon--thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Excellent start! A.D. as calculating we learned to know him only in DH, orchestrating life an death all from his 160 years perspective. This dialogue is just how I imagine it has taken place, without the wedding part, obviously. I need to read on...

You've painted a series of mood pictures so beautifully here. First, Severus' arrival at Spinner's End and all the emptiness and anxiety he feels at a future he never expected to exist. Then that incredibly tense recounting of the trio's walking through Hogwarts, the destruction and the numbness that completely dominates. And then that lovely scene with Hermione and Arthur Weasley -- after all that angst it was completely right that she finally was offered comfort that she was able to accept! With the final battle over I'd consider it a tough challenge to keep the tension humming, but you end this chapter on a note of foreboding, with all sorts of burning questions left to answer -- congratulations on another beautiful job.

. I'm glad you still felt there was tension here--I worried a lot about that. It felt, writing this, almost like having to start the story over again--that entering part three is like entering a whole new world. I'm glad that the emotions worked for you here, but I promise to return to the action of the story pronto!Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. You mean the world to me.

You are amazing. You have taken these characters and created something marvelous. Its well crafted, with a GREAT plot. The way you've managed to take what you were given and fleshed it into something brand new is just amazing. Bravo!

Why do I have the feeling that it's still a long way to go until we get our happy ending?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Well, it depends on your definition of long. ;) 8-9 more chapters is what I'm predicting. But no, thank you very much for seeing what I see here, which is that for these two, the war isn't nearly over. Thank you so much for reviewing,

You have an incredible understanding of human feelings and a real gift for putting those feelings into words. This was, indeed, a very beautiful chapter my friend!I loved the moving, vulnerable insights both Hermione and Snape displayed in this chapter. Very realistic considering what they both had to go through to survive, and to help win the War. It was a real priviledge to see this chapter take shape...from your notes at Portus, to this beautiful final product! So well done! xoxo
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
My dearest, I'm glad that even if I didn't get to write at Portus, that you still got to see the forming of a chapter. Sharing this with you has been 3/4 of the joy of it. I'm so honored to have you for a beta and for a friend.Thank you for your very kind words. Love you. xoxox

This definitely was a tear-filled chapter! Poor Severus! Poor Hermione! And poor everyone! Mr. Weasley was a brave man to see through his own tragedy long enough to do what was needed to protect Severus (collecting the will) and offer Hermione the comfort, support, and knowledge she needed to move forward (to go to Severus and protect him if needed and working to set him free for good).Hope to see more soon! I love this fic! Even when it makes me cry.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Aura, and I'm sorry for making you cry. This is an odd chapter, because it shows everyone at their best and worst, which is, I suppose what horror does. I'm glad you believe in these characters, as I do. Thank you so much. More soon!

Fascinating post-Portus update. Arthur, the gargoyle, the will... I hope that all will be (reasonably) well when Severus wakes.

This was worth the wait!!!! I'm really glad that she found him and that she's willing to stay with him even though I'm pretty sure he and the Wizarding World as a whole will try to do their best to keep them apart. But at least there's one night of rest before the trouble begins...Lovely chapter!!! I'm really looking forward to the next one!!gab

Just re-read this chapter again and I'm touched by the humanity of it. I love Severus's reflections on having his own skin back, it's so simple and yet completely electrifying. This read made me think a lot about the upcoming trial as well. And it made me absurdly frustrated with DH (yet again) because it seems impossible for me to flesh out what the status of everything is in the WW at that point in time. But that's a much longer discussion, so I'll leave it for the e-mails. :-)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm definitely looking forward to an email on that! And yes, we were dropped cold by DH--no sense of what went on after at all--and yet, that gives me more room, and so I'll try to be glad for it for now. I'm glad you liked it,

Having read all the comments of previous reviewers, there's hardly anything I can add except "yes, agree, put my name under each and every one of them". As for Arthur: I guess it's impossible to raise a bunch of kids like his, with a wife like Molly, and not become a very wise "solid as a rock" person :-) Weak personalities would have run away long ago...
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I totally agree about Arthur! That's exactly how I feel about him, and I'm glad we can share that. Thank you so much,

Agh. You know, I die a little every time I come to the end of a chapter. And Holy Schmokes what a chapter! So amazingly bittersweet. I can't wait till he wakes up!! And I just love Arthur Weasley. He's got to be one of my favorite canon characters for all his quirks. Dang, I was just so excited for an update. I love this, and I am so excited to see where you go with the trial. Fab as always! Thanks for another brilliant chapter!
