Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
Oh, shit. Really, that's all to say. Next chapter, quick! She's not smooth-talking enough to get this explained without Dumbledore!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I agree that she lacks finesse. And Oh, shit is right!!More on Tuesday. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

whaaaa how could you stop here? we both just read a nice kill-Rita-story, something similar would be adequate. some spark of hope would be nice too, Hermione seems to get to the breaking point.Only 1 1/2weeks before my holidays start, I fear I have to wait long weeks until I can read the next chapters of the story.Write on and I have something to look forward to.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know, it was a mean cliffie. But I am mean, it's true. :)Hope is on the way. Not in droves, but enough, I think. Or I hope. :)I think you'll get one more before your holiday,

Man this story is great. I was just watching the first movie last night and I found myself getting confused as I thought about the series as a whole. I kept thinking that elements of this story were in the series.....that's how seamlessly you have intertwined the canon with the non-canon. Although it was a little odd to see an 11 year old Hermione...bushy hair and all get glared at by Snape...I kept imagining them shagging each other senseless...disturbing really..lol.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Bwahahahahah! Disturbing indeed! I'm always squicked by the photomanipulations of Rickman and Watson together. Not MY Snape and Hermione!! lol. But I'm really flattered that some of my plot has ended up in your mind. Thank you! It's funny, sometimes as I write other stories, I find myself unconsciously thinking of SL as the backstory.thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Oh honestly, Rita just had to go and muddle! I'm looking for a silver lining though...perhaps in some way that Rita definitely did not anticipate...her article will end up helping Severus and Hermione -- and all of this new information Hermione will share with Kingsley will cause him to modify his terms? Just wishful thinking of my part... :) It's eating at me! I cannot wait for more. Come back real Severus!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, come back real!Severus! I miss him too, but I'm afraid it will be a while before we see him again.I'm not opposed to silver linings.... :)Thank you so much for your lovely review!

Out of the frying pan and into the fire.Gee. Do you think Rita Skeeter will be prosecuted by the Ministry for trespassing and tampering with evidence at a crime scene? In the name of the sisterhood of fanfiction authors, I hope you have a suitable smackdown for her at some point. She is malicious for the joy of being malicious.I hope Kingsley will listen with his heart and his head.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Of course she is. That's Rita Skeeter's MO. She just likes to stir things up. To be honest, there has never been a smackdown planned, but maybe I'll write a hidden chapter when I'm done. In the name of sisterhood and all. :)Thank you so much for reading,

Oh, Lariope, you have no idea how much I look forward to every chapter you post. You've done a wonderful job with this story and I have no doubt that Second Life is going to be a classic story for this pairing. When we tell newbies what to go read, we'll be saying Tyger! Tyger!, Soul Searching, Cloak of Courage, Hinge of Fate, Second Life, Vanity, and a handful of others that are absolute must reads. You've given us a wonderful gift through your writing and you deserve every compliment you've received.

I feel like being sick. Which, I imagine, is exactly how Hermione feels at this moment.
Truly, you've unleashed horror now. I can't see how this will ever work out, and you know my trust in you is absolute, but darling... There are no rainbows and ponies ahead, are there?
Seriously, I feel ill.
You get five stars. Your writing is excellent.
Author's Response: Oh, Lulabelle. The sickness of this chapter is contagious. I was ill with it all weekend.
No rainbows and ponies. No barbie dream castle. But something good, I promise. Something that I hope will feel real.

Well, I hope starting at the beginning with Hermione acting with her brain and not just her heart will go better than her first meeting with Kingsley. You certainly have wound the tension very tightly. Is there any relief in sight? Well written, as always!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, there have been a lot of complaints about the tension. I'll try to take it down a notch. :)Relief will be slow in coming but hopefully you'll see it on the horizon directly. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing my dear Professor McGonagall. We'll be seeing your namesake soon!

Oh, my. I'm terrified about what's going to happen to Snape in his trial, and what's going to come of his marriage to Hermione. You've written this with such clarity and precision that I can see the expressions on everyone's faces and feel their emotions. Everything feels so real, so gut-wrenchingly honest, that I'm in tears.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, Emmeline. No tears! But thank you for such lovely compliments, as they warm my heart. I'm glad you can see their faces. I always do!More soon. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! xoxox

Great chapter, as always. Snape wanted to give her back her choices-- he has to stay and face the trial for that to happen. If they ran or created a new life under a new name, that would be taking choices away from her. It makes sense that everthing won't be alright in a few paragraphs. So I'll be waiting the next chapter anxiously-- I wouldn't want to be Nigellus' picture when McGonagall visits the office, Dumbledore's either.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Makaem. I agree--he has to get through this for both of them, or none of it means anything. At least that's how it seems to me, and I'm glad you feel that way too. More on PNB soon, I am thinking. :)Thank you for reviewing!

It's really chilling, this one. Makes me quite afraid. :-) The curruption at the MoM and the Wizengamot seems to run as deep as ever. Poor, poor, Hermione...

I don't know what to say, except great writing as usual. You took us from high to low in one chapter. I started out hopeful for them now I have the feeling Severus might be the one visiting Hermione in Azkaban. Severus nailed it on the head when he told her they would be out for blood, so I fear for what has happened to the pensieve on level two. Kingsley is giving me the willies, as for Phineas, Rita and Ernie lets take their actions of contexts and throw them to the angry mob! However two wrongs don't make a right does it, I can only hope that the rest of the character's in you wonderful story will step back take a deep breath, calm down and open their minds and hearts.

Thankyou for another wonderful chapter! I like how you have strung out the angst just a little bit longer - because really anyone that would believe that the Wizarding world would let Snape off easily is dreaming! But I like how you have held back on Snape's invective and self-loathing somewhat it allows Hermione's character more room. I also like how you have portrayed Kingsley - the consumate politician/public animal. Speaking of animal - pass the insecticide there's a lying skeeter I'd like to terminate. No, better yet, pass a spoon. Stick her on a corkboard with a spoon. Why? Because it hurts more! And Headmaster Black - Grrr!Thankyou again and cheers.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Reets! I'm glad you think that the Wizarding World would not be quick to forgive. I think people in general are hard to sway once their minds are made up. Snape himself is a prime example. Did anyone in the order (besides DD) really trust him after the first war? And yes, death to Rita Skeeter! With a spoon!xoxo

"Lucy you got some 'splaining to do" I wonder what Kingsley's reaction will be once Hermione is done telling her tale. I hope she is able to get through to Severus at a heart level, as well. He is beaten battered and without hope. The only hope he held is her love and I think he is still seeing her love as a betraying him when she saved his life. What does he have to live for at this point? Convinced he is going to Azkaban, no magic and lost...he would have been better off dead in his mind's eye. He needs to know in his heart that her love will see him through. Well done as always, my dear. Irish
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Bwahahah! Some 'splaining indeed. You know, I'm not sure that Snape is as unhappy with her as she thinks he is. But we'll see more of the two of them soon. But I do agree that he thinks himself better off dead. Poor Snape. I just want to squeeze him.Thank you for reviewing, my dearest!

Oh, what a twist! You're not making it easy for them, are you? But then again, isn't that the nature of how things go? I don't envy the position of a politician - it seems so hard to do what is right. And of course, that horrid Skeeter creature would be the proverbial beetle in the ointment. I hope she is revealed for the unregistered Animagus she is and is suitably punished for it.

. I'm so glad you sympathize with Kingsley a bit--it is so hard to do what's right. Particularly when you have "the greater good" to consider.

Politics! I'm glad to see Snape being compliant, even if in a defeatist way, he still is going with what Hermione is trying to make happen. She won't stop until she will see his real face again. Man! How she loves him. I am glad they aren't running and damn Rita Skeeter! As always she never gets the truth, just the warped, shady side of things.Another glorious chapter. I love the political intrigue.Livvy

It is a horrible mess, the immediacy of the after-war world, but Hermione has found Severus, and no matter what he says, he will know that she came looking for him, to be with him. Hopefully that will help smooth over the hurt that is yet to come.

I've enjoyed this story and the multiple layers in each chapter. It's complex and wonderful and I love how you're making it your own. By the end of that first section, I wanted to hug Snape myself. What anguish, what torment that man has had to endure. I SO hope that you find a way for him to evade public disgrace.OH I am SO glad that Hermione found him! I was hoping he didn't run very far.I like your Mr. Weasley very much, btw. What a great update!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, my dear Dynonugget. I'm glad you liked it. Poor Snape, indeed. For all his bad behavior, mostly I just feel terrible for him. I know this is cheesy, but I totally believe it: Hermione would find him on the moon if that's where he'd got off to. It makes me think of your recent LJ about shipping. When does that happen to a person, that moment when you stop reading fanfic because it's fun or hot or satisfying somehow and start believing in your ship?I'm really glad you liked Mr Weasley.Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Beautiful chapter! Severus's perspective was very insightful and heart-wrenching at the same time. I'm very glad to see them at least in the same place again, though I think there is still a stony road ahead.
