Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Love love love it!! My only hope now is that you don't END this story the way DH ends....argh!!!

Ooh! That kiss was incredible! Another excellent chapter!! And I'm not even an SS/HG shipper, but I just might be after this :)

OmG! That makes your praise like gold, Dynonugget! I'm glad you can see the pairing, even though you're not a shipper. Thank you so much!

I especially enjoyed this chapter. Snape and Hermione are bonded somehow, and on the same side, and it feels like it's the two of them alone fighting against the dark. She just seems to accept him, and he, her. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I really liked this one.

On this chapter in particular, this review touches me incredibly. I always feel for poor chapter 10, unloved among his many siblings, and I'm so glad you liked this one especially. I remember writing it so clearly, how much I loved the end of it, and it's kind of gotten lost in the big noisy shuffle. Thank you! And Chapter 10 thanks you too!

Lovely chapter...And Snape dancing in front of everyone was wildly amusing.

What a torturous chapter. I nearly cried for both Snape and Hermione. And Dumbledore! You paint him as the master manipulator he truly was. Oh, what a chapter! I've got to get reading the next, and hope for some kind of peace between the two... Gah!!!

. This one was brutal to write, and I remember it as the first time that a whole chapter came out of me at once, that this chapter kind of launched itself onto the page. And yet in retrospect, to me, everything hinges on it--their whole relationship is built on these days they spend together, and it makes me doubly agree with you, that Dumbledore was truly a master manipulator. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Oh, I so felt for Hermione in this chapter! The whole debacle with Ron...that had to hurt! And Snape, feeling a bit sorry for himself, but rightfully so.

Gah! From amazingly wonderful sex, to seeing Snape coming undone (which was incredibly well done!), to the stupid arse putting those damn walls back up! What a great chapter!!

But that's Snape, isn't it? He'll give you an inch, and then take back three. :) lol. I'm so happy to hear that you found his...erm...abandon....believable. Thank you so much!

Ok, I think they both MUST have been harboring feelings for each other for a while, now. B/c though Hermione was awkward, I attributed it to her inexperience and not the 'bat' as you so lovingly called him. :)Merlin, this chapter was BEYOND hot! And they didn't even make love yet! Can't WAIT to see where you go with that.Love how you wrote Severus...so passionate, so thoughtful of Hermione's needs. WOW!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I do insult him with great affection. And I'm so glad you found this hot!! Thank you! Pr0n is so hard to write, and I always sort of wear my heart on my sleeve after one of these chapters.... Your words mean a lot to me. :)

Ok, so I'm reading this for The New Library Awards, and wow! This story is off to a great start. I have to say I didn't expect Hermione to agree to the marraige so soon, but I'll also say that everyone else seems exceptionally in-character. And to happen SO soon! I printed out a bunch to read at once, so you might have a few reviews in a row.

Well, I had guessed that the Vita Secundus would be used to revive Snape, but I never guessed that this would be the source of conflict in their relationship (although, given Snape's history, I probably should have guessed). I loved how their relationship finally became known to Harry and Ron and their reaction. Oooh, I'm glad I've been gone this week so that I haven't been able to read the chapter until today. Now I don't have so long to wait until you update again!

! I'm glad you liked the big reveal to Harry and Ron--thank goodness it happened in the middle of a battle, eh? So no time for brooding. And no, not too much longer to wait! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

I truly don't know where to start, or what to say. This is the most amaizing chapter in a long line of them.I loved that you showed how Severus learned to fly, and how disgusted he was at having that bit of Voldemort in him.The scene at Hogwarts were brilliant - Snape finally being able to tell off Dumbledore, his delight in having a little sparring match with Minerva, then the poignancy of his seeing Hogwarts for the last time before going to what he is certain is his death.A truly masterful chapter. Can one give six stars?

So typically Severus of him not to recognise that love for him made her do it. Instead he only sees that she has ruined the big sacrifice he has made. I only hope he can forgive her once he realises that Harry will still live!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
He hasn't had much practice yet at putting his feelings or desires... emotions... ahead of the plan--and I think the things he has had practice at--mistrusting, being mistrusted--those things are at the forefront of his mind. But yes, it's true, we have the rest of the war to play out. I sincerely hope that this weekend I will be able to shut the Deathly Hallows for a while, put it back on the shelf and just... be free of it. :)Thank you so much for reading and reviewing,

Oh my. Oh my, oh my! I cried reading this chapter. I can honestly say that is a first for me. It was just so... so heartbreaking! I don't know how else to explain it. Somehow I knew from the very start that when it came to Snapes death, Hermione would use the potion on him out of fear, love, and panic. That is why I held onto my hope for this story and kept on reading.
This could not have been written any better. Many times I've wondered myself how Snape would feel if were to somehow live after he had been bitten and it is as if you have read my mind. He feels betrayed, and as if he has nothing else to live for, that his life was laid out for him, that there was nothing left after he died to save Lily's only son.I love the twist at the end. It makes me wonder what will happen next because I know that if I were Hermione, I would have done the same thing. I think almost anyone would have... Who could watch their love die when they knew they had a way to stop it right there with them?Wonderful job. I wish I could say something to you that would let you know how much I love your story, but I just can't. There just aren't enough words to explain.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
There aren't enough words to say thank you with, either, my dear. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm so glad that you like the story, that you liked the chapter, that you could see Snape feeling as he did. And I agree that there was nothing else Hermione could have done. I'd have done the same, maybe even if I'd known how he would feel. More soon--I hope you continue to enjoy it. Much love.

Wow. His thoughts about the prophecy and his role in the war while watching the Battle of Hogwarts were so insightful.I thought the end of the chapter, his wish to die in the war and his anger at Hermione for using the potion to save him instead of Harry was the most true to character way this could have happened. I would not be able to read him smothering Hermione with affection in the midst of battle and his misery, or asking to be saved. I find it makes his character more complex and fascinating the way you make his wish to die and belief that he doesn't deserve life coexist with a genuine love for Hermione.Brava and I trust where you're going with this in the future.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Palegrey, I'm incredibly touched by your trust, and by your reading of this chapter. And I just want to say YES, YES! In my mind, these things can and do coexist, and I'm so happy that you see it that way too, that you can believe that. So much love heading from here to there....

Poor Hermione, she loved him and didnt want him to die.And poor Severus, he doesn't seem to realise that he doesn't have to die just because Dumbledore planed it like that!I'm torn in three, one side of me thinks Hermione was right to use the potion, one says 'Stupid lovesick idiot could have just ruind everything' and the other is thinking that maybe all isn't as it apears and thinks that by some brilliant stroke of sheer luck, Harry won't need the potion.Other then that, i shall take a leaf out of Ronalds book and say.. Bloody Brilliant.

; you've hit on some of the most important aspects of what's happened, which makes me very happy. And of course, the whole Malfoy Manor episode was supposed to ensure Harry's survival--but Mr Ollivander did not come right out and endorse that in Shell Cottage, so we'll have to see.But that you could even think, "Stupid lovesick idiot could have just ruined everything" heartens me greatly! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

when he talks about finding her on the other side, does he mean Lily or Hermione?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think I'll go in and clear that up here directly. He means Hermione. Hermione, Hermione, Hermione. Earlier in the chapter, when he says that all he dares to hope is that her death will be quick and painless and that he'll find her on the other side--I meant for it to hark back to that. I think that my Snape has put Lily into the place in his heart where she belongs. I had hoped to show that with the memories chapter, but it seems clear that there are still a bunch of questions about it, so I'll go in and make the language more explicit. Thank you!!

I read this chapter last night before bed and the ending has stayed with all day. So many questions. Does Hermione chase him down? Does she stay there in shock? If she does chase him dwn what then? Will it dawn on Severus that they are still married? I rushed home today to check if you had updated, knowing it wouldn't fit your pattern of updates. But I had to. Your writing is wonderful! I eagerly await every chapter.

Uh-oh. Hermione made a boo-boo, (but I'm glad she did--most of the time I'd rather have Severus than Harry).
I loved this chapter. I love battle scenes.
And I can't wait for more:-)

Wow, that didn't go according to Hermione's plan. Of course, it doesn't help that she didn't have a plan. All she wanted was for her husband to live. But now he loathes her. I'm dying to see what happens next. I hope Severus and Hermione can work things out. Severus was prepared to die, and in fact wanted it, but he didn't realize that he did have something to live for, and that was Hermione. I'm sure he'll realize it, but it may take a while. I just hope the next chapter doesn't.
