Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
Your version of Deathly Hallows so outshines Ms. Rowling's rather lazy book, I cannot tell you. You manage to keep the Golden Trio in character. You manage to keep Snape mostly in character, although really Ms. Rowling's version of Snape was flat and one-dimensional. It's actually the film version that has nuances, thanks to Alan Rickman. Your Snape far outshines what JKR wrote, no doubt. It's a beautifully written story, and I look forward to the next installment.

. I'm really glad that this feels dynamic and in character to you. JKR's Snape... I think the groundwork is there... she just couldn't follow through. I'm so glad that you're still enjoying the story. Thank you so much for reviewing! xoxox

Uh oh. I really don't know what is going to happen next. Which means that I will be waiting very (im)patiently for the next update. (Not to put any pressure on you or anything)

I'm half pleased and half scared that you don't know what's coming!!! :) You know my schedule now--Tuesdays unless all hell breaks loose. :) More soon. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!! xoxox

I know what happens in the book. What I don't know is what happens in your version. What role Snape is going to play...what kind of resolution will occur between Snape and Hermione and Hermione and the boys.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
No, I knew what you meant! I'm always glad when it feels like a surprise, but then, too, I don't want it to be TOO surprising!! :)

Fantastic chapter!! So much more compelling than its counterpart in DH. Well done!

great...really great. It was incredible even if I don't like like the way Severus reacted in the end...well, his reaction was expected...but the reasoning behind it was a bit too cowardly for a man like him...at least I think so. Waiting for the next chapter...good work ^__^

I'm glad you liked the chapter, despite the ending. Believe me, I don't see an ounce of coward in Snape, ever, ever, even here. I hope that more will be explained as we go along. Thank you so much for sticking with me! More soon! oxoxo

Now you have done it! I am crying and it is all your fault! What a magnificient, intence, earthmoving chapter! There is so much I want to say; I am so proud of Harry for his words that he had always trusted Hermione and that he saw no reason to stop now! I am so proud of Harry and Ron for following her, supporting her when they knew she was running for Severus! I loved that Hermione got to hex some Malfoys along the way! I could feel her despair and pain as she was running, as Ron and Harry held her while Voldidork "killed" Severus, my tears were running so fast and hard when she craddled Severus in her arms, begging him not to leave her. As I felft her joy when the potion worked, I felt as someone stabbed a knife in my heart when Severus accused her of betrayal and left her, when her crime was saving the one she loved more than life. That IDIOT, at a tiny level I can understand that he wanted his redemption by being the one who saved Harry's life with his potion, but how could he think, say and feel the things he just did towards Hermione and still claim to love her? He would rather be dead, being a dead hero, thinking they could rather be together in the after-life??? I don't doubt that Hermione will figth for clearing his name, and she would most probably convince a lot of people to help her, but she should find it hard to forgive him what he just did, he trampled her, their, love so hard into the ground, I don't know if he deserves to be forgiven. Oh, I still want a happy ending, with absolutely no Ron/Hermione pairing, with a lot of Dumbledore bashing, justice for all who have been harmed by Voldidork and his cowardly followers (they must feel terribly brave to slaugther children), but I am sooo dissepointed in Severus. He deserves to aknowlegged as the hero he has been, he deserves that the truth about Dumbledorks manipulations are told, he deserves a whole lot of great things, but I am not sure that he deserves Hermiones love and forgiveness. I will probably change my mind in a couple of days, and by the end of your story (I hope) vote for them living happily ever after, but my emotions are running high now and his betrayal of Hermione's love here at the end of this chapter was a hard blow for my worship of him as my hero. Update again soon, (though I guess I will have to wait a week...:-)) I have marked my calender for every Tuesday for weeks to come:-)) (And I still whish I could find a way to tripple the stars I can give you, 5 stars ain't high enough for this magnificient story!!!!)

!! I'm sorry for the tears. And I know you said you'd probably change your mind, and I understand your upsettedness/hurt with Snape, but the poor man... it's so hard to change, and truly--I think he is right to fear the future in some ways. He has a long road ahead of him. Thank you so much for such a wonderful, indepth review. I loved seeing how the chapter played out in your mind. It was a marvelous gift to me, my dear. Thank you so much. *hugs*

How can he be upset with her? Well I know how -- you wrote it all out right there, but really... How can he be upset with her?I have to admit that this was a very difficult chapter to read and I can imagine also a dfficult one to write. The tension Hermione was under during the entire chapter was well brought out. I could really understand how she felt. I was sure, for a few moments there, that Severus was a gonner. I was rather upset about that choice you were making and wondering how Hermione would cope. But the way he reacted to the events and her choices when it got to the end made me now mad at Severus. How could he want her to go through that heartbreak? I know that his plan didn't go exactly like he thought and he thinks it would ultimately be the better for her to be rid of him. But to blame her and then leave her standing there all alone. He should be ashamed of himself. Anyway, I look forward to Herimone's reaction and to see where you next take this story. Thanks for sharing, JoAnne
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know--there's a great deal of heartbreak on all sides. But I still have sympathy for him, and I hope you will, ultimately, as well. But we'll see, won't we? Thank you for sharing your responses with me; I really appreciate it!

Suddenly, everything she knew about magic seemed like a long and rather silly fantasy. A witch? She fancied herself a witch? She waved her magic wand and things appeared out of the air? A teaspoon of liquid could call a man back from the dead? Was she really here at all, or was she five years old, asleep in the rocker on her parents’ back porch, dreaming fevered dreams in the sun?Guh. I can't even begin to explain how you move me with these types of passages. I am transported to Hermione's soul, and in doing so, her soul becomes mine--I feel exactly what she feels, like it's my life it's happening to. I really don't even know how to explain it any better than that, it's just this overwhelmingly universal relatability that shakes me to my core. I remember a similar one you put in earlier, when Hermione's parents were driving her home, something about how she felt, for a moment, very cherished, very known. And it really moved me then too, because I could understand exactly how she felt. Which I guess boils down, essentially, to you and I being eerily alike in our sentiments and feelings. Since you, like, wrote it and all! :-POkay enough intangible, unhelpful "criticism." This had to be your best chapter so far. Hermione's desperate, suicidal journey to get to Severus' side had me in tears. Harry's trusting her, not understanding yet, but still trusting in her loyalty--guh, more tears. And now, with the most painful of cliffhangers....will he ever be able to forgive her? Will she ever be able to make him understand? I'm despondent, but not despairing. Love will conquer all! Huzzah! Okay I'll stop. :-P
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Because we share these things, it makes me even gladder to know that you are "despondent, but not despairing." Thank you so much. That is exactly what I needed to hear, and of course, exactly how I feel. I believe in those two; I do. And I think they've got a ways to go yet, but they are the bravest people I have the pleasure of knowing/writing, and I believe in them still. I'm glad you liked that part of Hermione's thoughts. Thank you so much, for everything, always.

Breath Laura breath. In and out calm breaths leave a coherent review. Breath. Lari I am in a state of panic! Where the hell did Severus rush off to? He is not thinking straight, he is going to go face Voldy isn’t he? “Hermione, get down!” That voice was unmistakable. Poor Ron and the spiders. I don’t know that I could lay still and let all those legs crawl over me. Ugh! I liked all the magical creatures you used in the battle. It made it all the more frightening that Hermione didn’t know what everything is. “You have never given me any reason--any reason--to doubt you. And I won’t start now.” Thank goodness for Harry’s loyalty. I was ready to thump him through my monitor and beat some sense into the boy, but no he coughed up some on his own.
Next Wednesday seems like a very far off time indeed.

What's a matter? Not enough sleep? Drop your candy in the dirt? Why you being so mean to poor Hermione??? Severus is so distraught and Hermione ... my gosh! Please, have some chocolate and get over it so you can write something loving for our beloved couple to do with/to each other! All this anxiety is not conducive to a happy marriage.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Hey, now! :) I'm diabetic! No chocolate! :)No, the pain... it's bad, I know. I'm sorry for it. But it's part of it... part of the whole thing, and I hope in the end you will understand why he did what he did. Thank you so much for reviewing!

Excuse me, I'm going to read this chapter again and then find a nice corner where I can sit and stare till the next chapter...

Oh my heavens! I feel so horrible for Hermione -- she did what she thought was best (for her!), only to have him walk away.... This was another amazing chapter -- I'm really curious as to where this is going to end, and I must say that I'm definitely enjoying this ride. Great job!

Ohhhh. I expected him to be not happy with her when the time for this came, and yet it struck so painfully. Poor Hermione. Poor Severus! The Room of Requirement scene was wonderful, and a great way to let the boys figure things out. It was good to see Harry be so sensible and to keep trusting her, no matter how hard it must have been for him.Oh, and a very happy birthday!!!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you for everything, my dear! I'm glad you knew it wouldn't be wine and roses.... and I'm sorry it was so painful. Yes, poor both of them. I'm glad you liked the RoR! I've been very trio-centric lately, and I'm glad you found Harry sensible. Thank you for reviewing!

By all that's HOLY!!!!!!! Why couldn't YOU have written the 7th book?????????Severus is alive, and I know you will find a way for Hermione to resurrect him spiritually, as well. Several ways, and you will choose the best of them. You can really write, I love this story so much:)As deeply as Hermione and Severus love each other, even if there are rocky shoals ahead, I know you will navigate them safely to shore:)I salute you!!!!{{hugs}}Fizzabella

Astonishingly brilliant. The scenes between the three after she told them the truth were completely believeable and so wrenching. I love that the boys accepted her word and supported her - the description of them holding her back until Voldemort left the shack was heartbreaking. Thank you for a fantastic update, can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--and I'm glad you liked the part just before the Shrieking Shack, where the boys restrained her. There's such a chain of trust and protection running through these characters--I think that's why we respond so strongly to them in canon. Thank you so much! More soon!

I had a feeling she was going to do that. Now what? I can't wait for the next update, this is getting really tense now, and since canon is being tweaked around I really don't know what will happen now when Harry faces Voldy. Excellent suspense. I hate you. (in a good way) ;p

Hermione will be having an dreadful time because of this... Poor girl! Though it´s not really her fault. She doesn´t understand him. Those parting words were cruel of Snape, though I understand he is hurt and they suit him, in a way, cause I´ve always imagined Snape to be the tormented-and-a-little-melodramatic type.I also like the fact that, in your story, Hermione had to face her own horcrux, just like Harry and Ron had to do in the original book.Great as always, I can´t wait for more!!Thanks again for your wonderful fic!

The battle scene here is exactly as I would have expected such a fray to be, so full of confusion and turmoil. Of course, the diadem woiuld have tortured Hermione about Snape. It was hard to watch him die again, and it was hard to feel his anguish about his lost opportunity to atone himself. Heartbreaking all the way around. You have never once failed to surprise me!
