Hermione finds a mysterious piece of self-writing parchment in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes that writes: Tell me your deepest desire. Thinking it’s a trick, she says, “I wish to see my soul mate?” and she suddenly finds herself at Severus’ feet.
This is my response to the Potter_Place Summer 2007 Prompt – #23
The warnings I have listed for this chapter are implied. I chose the rating of MA (NC-17) due to the story’s overall content.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Ha, ha! Glad you had fun with that. I was feeling mischievous.Do not know of anythng in canon about Snape's "favorite" potions ingredient, just wondered what your take might be on that.Any Hermione response to above would have been far beyond my abilities. As far as your question--um, Ancient Runes? If not, I haven't a clue! And now it's time for..., and perchance to dream of the next chapter.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Yes, it was entertaining, although there are Morse code translation sites out there and they are really helpful, but I solved yours the hard way, each letter at a time, not with a translator.
If i had to guess his favoite ingredient for potions, I would guess a vial of phoenix tears and a few bezoars are always in his pocket, and aconite/monkshood/wolfsbane in his cupboard. The Agrippan or The Chaldean Methods are both Arithmancy codes. I suppose that wasn't a fair question, except that she's taking Arithmancy in this story. (in many of my stories actually lol) She might not believe in Divination, but divining outcomes and probabilities mathematically.lol that’s another matter all together!Well, time for me too, after I finish a this last I'm off too. Good night.
You certainly left us with enough to be going on with! Wondering if Severus knew the train was going to be searched? Was this why McGonagall was given 'family time'; to get her out of the way? Or was MM also kidnapped for questioning? What's going to happen to the Weston girl!! Will Draco ever learn to THINK or will he just 'do what he's told'? You almost made me feel sorry for the elder Malfoy's. You've got me wondering what happened to Narcissa. And there is the Winter Solstice party to attend.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
LOL love the questions, and each one will be answered, believe me. Most of them in the next chapter. Hermione might not find out what happened to Charlene until start of second term, and yes, Draco should start thinking for himself. So I've made you feel sorry for Lucius and Narcissa? :) She's been abused, a bit. Lucius is hating life under his master, and the Dark Lord has taken over everything! and he's a cruel master. You'll find out more later. The Winter Solstice party is going to... well, a lot happens. Thank you for reading and for the review. I do appreciate them and loved your questions, even if I can't answer them right now.
Sometime I'd like to hear Cillian's story in full. He's become one of my favorite characters. Thanks for the update, I really enjoy this story.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
I may just do that. I'm delighted that you like him, I constructed him carefully. You're most welcome for the update. Thank you for your continued support and your review.
Hmmm. I wonder if Draco will see/help any of the abducted students? I do hope Severus can convince Cillian (I think he might just be able to!) and poor Hermione, I feel so bad for her not being able to do anything.Another excellent update.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Yes, Draco isn't really a horible person in this story, misguided and lost, but not unredeemable. He will, in what way he can. Oh, Severus will, if not Hermione. Cillian is just about there.Yes, well, but it's her situation, and she knows that. She'll have her time later. Thank you for reading and for the review. I'm glad that you liked the chapter.
Wow! I see Ginny was busy making another set of compacts for her and Hermione. That was quick.Cillian's advice to Severus is probably most accurate to share information, but he's still unwilling to do so. He knows that Hermione can hide information very well, but is still reluctant. Very interesting take, expanding on the Malfoy's situation under Voldy occupation in their home. Glad to see Draco noticing the difference and that it's making an impact to reinforce what Hermione has been telling him.Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Think Ginny+ Fred & George and a good reason - well, an ergent need. Need I say more? I'm sure it gave Gred and Feorge a few new ideas for their shop. Yes, it is but our guy, Severus, is not exactly the open up and give unconditional trust kind of guy, is he? And yes, he's still unhappy that she can hide stuff from him, and there is that day she went 'missing' ... so they have to work on their trust issues. lol Yes, well, for Lucius and Narcissa to look like they did in the books, and subsequently the movies, I figured things at home were not going well. So, I asked myself, 'what would frazzle Lucius to near breaking?' and started typing! Poor Draco, oh you'll see, Hermione has had quite an affect on him, and her words and arguemnts have had their effect. Next, I'm working on getting it out to you, It's the process and all the steps, corrections, 2 beats and RL intervening. But I'll get it to you as soon as I can.
this is such a mess their all stupid ugh what about the parchment????
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Yes, it's Voldemort's reign! Things are looking grim out there. The parchment will pop up again, and will be helpful at some point. lol Thank you for readign and for the review.
Yikes! Poor Malfoys... I wonder if Draco will see the captured students; I suspect Hermione will be shown the prisoners to "motivate" her to cooperate with Voldy. Glad the little mirrors are now working. And how did the Muggleborn families (all but 3) escape the DE attacks? It doesn't sound as if Severus knew of them. Does Bole want Charlene Weston because they're still betrothed? Still not sure how Charlene feels about that.I wonder about Cillian's true loyalties, and whether Cillian or Severus will first broach the subject. I hope Cillian goes to the party and will be safe. THANK YOU for the new chapter!!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
hummm interesting speculations. Voldie has plans and so do a few others, but why spoil the fun? lol You'll see Draco in the next chapter, and you'll see Belinda and Bellatrix too! The girls are just beginning to use the mirrors. Now, Hermione has 2. Oh, you'll find out why the Muggle families escaped. Oh, good call, and I'm glad that you remember that! So I'll give you this one, it's a spoiler of sorts. Charlene was taken from train by Bole and held by Malfoy for a few days as punishments because she told her parents she didn’t want to marry Egmont Bole. But you'll see more of that later. Nothing like parental/ persuasion to straighten out a unruly teen, right? That's not going to backfire at all. nope.I've given you tons of clues to what Cillian's true loyalties are, but he doesn't think anyone can fool the Dark Lord, and he's afraid to turn away, while playing the 'role' of Death Eater like Severus does, because he doesn't know that is what Seveurs does. ANd Severus hasn't been willing to show his true feelings and loyalty to Cillian until he's sure that his friend shares his opinions. So the men are at a stand still. If Severus would only tip his hand, show his friend his true position, Cillian would cave and grab onto the chance of stitching sides. However, since neither knows the other's 'position' and opinions, they are keeping things 'normal.' Besides, Cillian has his own reasons to have Voldie fall, and she's a lovely young lady. lol Also, one of Cillian's family is also on the fense... You'll see. You're most welcome for the update. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Er, I make soap and you don't get soap without lye - so saying using lye soap is kind of like saying - soap - you don't get soap without lye - its impossible. Nearly all commercial soaps aren't soap at all, but detergents, made with phosphates and petroleum. The only way to get real soap is to use a mixture of lye, water and animal or vegetable oils. Just thought I'd explain.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
I love that explanation! Thank you, I learned something new! Sorry for getting it wrong all these years. What type of soap do you make?
Response from Fishy (Reviewer)
Its no worry - there are many folks who don't understand to get real, honest soap, you absolutely must use lye - some folks use ready made melt and pour soap to pour into molds and they often think that this is soap without lye, but its just premixed - and they aren't actually handling the raw lye, but lye is used.I make home made soap - really basic stuff - nothing synthetic - meaning, nothing using man made chemicals or petroleum - just regular soap - though I do use essential oils to scent it - depending.I think Lava soap was often considered very harsh, which it was - and often folks think of that when they think of "lye soap" but soft soaps - ones that are easy on your skin, just have more oils in them that survive the lye process - and are more gentle to your skin, but lye is still used. When soap is made, if the recepie is accurate, all the lye is 'used up' in the saponification process - and afterward, you really won't be using actual lye on your skin - if you ever use a nice home made soap that has been superfatted, you'll probably notice how awesome it feels on your skin - as opposed to supermarket soap. I don't want to sound haughty - I really don't, but I just wanted to let you know! Honest! And I enjoyed your story! I realize now that I didn't even leave you an actual review - I am sorry! Its an interesting spin on the HG/SS genre.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Not a problem. Actually, I've enjoyed this information. Since I use store bought brands, and gentle foaming facial washes on my face, I usually specify lye soap to mean 'not the store kind,' which is what i think most people think when reading this. I'm assuming. I've never used home made soap, although I'd be interested now that I know a bit more. Thank you again for sharing your information with me. I don't mind in the least that this is an 'unusual' type of review. I've found it facinating.
Response from Fishy (Reviewer)
Oh you have to try home made soap - don't get melt and pour stuff - that's never as nice as soap made from scratch with essential oils for scent - that stuff is so luxurious! You'll never go back! Not to store bought stuff!
Soooooo excited! Will read tonight!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Okay, let me know what you think. Not pimping ofr reviews, if you want to pass, is all right. Thank you for the pretty stars.
Seevrus really does need to work on Cillian, although I doubt it will take much. :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Nope, some, but he'll have to stick his neck out first, so he may need a bit of help - female help. lol Cillian is almost there. Thank you for reading and for the review.
The tree and the swamp are priceless, just what the Carrow's deserve. :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Yeah, i thought so. Thank you for reading and for the review.
What a tangled web. I could imagine they would be hysterical, I hope the prisoners are safe.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Yep, but i'll sort things out in a bit, well, later. You'll find out what happened to the kids. Yes, they are 'safe' so to speak. Thank you for reading and for the review.
Recently read a rather bad fanfic, and this is, thankfully, flushing that out of my mind! The Legilimency scenes are excellent. You've done a superb job describing Snape's tactics and how smoothly Hermione is able to evade him. His method of securing her to the hospital also is very convincing--nastily effective, just like our dear Severus.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! Gald to help! I'm glad you like the Legilimency scenes, and I'm glad your not mad at him for poisoning her. Course, he was ready to intervene in case she drank too much. lol Thank you for reading and for the review.
It appears, what with all the students in lock-down, that Severus has planted a tree in someone's classroom and "Swamped" the hallway! Who would ever suspect the Headmaster? It took me a few minutes to figure him out. But, Hermione is in a very tough spot when SS wants her to trust him with Harry's life. Sev's been way too good at being bad to elicit that kind of trust. She may trust him with her life - but Harry's?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Oooo you think it was him? really? lol Alecto is not a beloved teacher by any means. You've ruled the obvious! Exactly! Which is why... you'll see. Thank you for reading and for the review.
ooo this is good now she sees what he been doing , shes so smart lol good to see dobby and harry this is going to be good!!! thanks!!!!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
I'm glad that you liked it. Thank you for the review.
Ooooh, so much going on. The Carrows are going to be unhappy when the Dark Lord is done with them. I love that Hermione can still throw Severus with what she can learn.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
LOl They is not gonna be happy. Yep, she can still surprise him and now he has to deal with gettting what he wanted. lol Thank you for the review.
Yea another chapter. I love the mental play between Severus and Hermione. I wonder why the wands don't work for Hermione so well. Hmmmm could there be a reason?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
You're very welcome. I'm glad that you like the interaction between them. It's not that the wands don't - they are not HER wand. Ginny's and Jenny's both accept Hermione's friendship and their wands work for her, because the girls are both truly accepting leting her use theirs. Deep friendship and unconditional trust. Jannilyn isn't really, and Hermione hasn't 'won' it by disarming her, so that wand doesn't workas well. Its like Ginny's and Jenny's know that their owners are fine with her using them - so the wand choses to obey. Jannily may have reservations, so her wand isn't as complaint. See? Thank you for the review. Happy reading.
“Then accept the Mark I’ve designed especially for you.” “There,” the Dark Lord said finally, releasing his hold. He faced those in the room, ignoring Hermione’s sobbing whimpers. “She is mine. I have marked her as mine – mine to do with as I desire. No one is to question her place among you or my intentions for this girl ever again.”Hermione has finally been marked by the Dark Lord, but I can't help but wonder exactly what this mark will do. Does this mean that the Carrows can no longer hurt her? Will she be subject to the DL's ability to connect with her mind like Harry? What makes Hermione's mark different from the ones the other Death Eaters were given? I think both Cillian and Draco have been given more than enough reason to begin to doubt the wisdom of supporting Voldemort. When I saw that one of the Dark Lord's "researchers" was named Mengele I shuddered. I hope that Severus will be able to take Hermione to stay somewhere safe for a few days where she will be able to relax and not feel like she is under a microscope all day, every day. After having been marked, I'm sure she will need some time to come to terms with what the possible repercussions might be. Poor Hermione. Poor Severus.I'm off to the next chapter now!Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Oh, Beth, I don't really want to give too much away. What I will say is that Voldemort is using Hermione for something. You'll find out a lot more about the mark, er Mark in the upcoming chapters, and what purpose keeping Hermione at Hogwarts does/is doing. Voldemort is allowing Severus to 'play with the Mudblood' because it serves His purpose and keeps his loyal follower happy 'getting some'. I know that's cras, but He is not a nice guy. Think about all the times he's had Hermione in his presance, and it should become obvious to you. Oh, yes, they have and then some. All they need is for Severus to pluck up and push Cillian, take a huge risk and really talkto him. Draco is almost ready to snap - and by the time he and Hermione are together agian, expect Severus and Cillian (amusededly) to sit back and watch the shouting. I used Mengele on purpose. I'm sorry for giving you the shudders. Yes, once I get them reunited, he will and it will not be (exactly) the quite solitude you think, at first. Plus she will have to face the Dark Lord and account for her running. (However, there is one bit of it that pleased him... You'll see.) Thank you for the review, and for sticking with me on this story. I have the next one ready for submission, but I have a chapter of CoMWT and P-TB in queue already. So as soon as one clears, I'll submit the next one for this story.
You are keeping things properly tense and heavy.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Thank you, that's what I'm going for. lol
I didn’t start reading this story until a couple of months ago, because I’m a bit scared of fics that have abuse and torture amongst the warnings, even though you made it clear that the warnings were implied. But I’m so glad I did start reading. I‘ve found the story very intense and moving, and I was anxious for chapter 26. Thanks for updating! The relationship between Severus and Hermione is developing at a really nice pace. I think if Hermione had to deal with all the abuse from the Death Eaters, without the tentative support from Severus, the story would be very difficult to read. But there are some really nice, tender moments between the two of them, and that contrasts well with the more difficult aspects of the story. I love the conversation with Ginny about the Slytherin’s divided loyalties. One of my pet peeves about the final book was that the vast majority of Slytherins turned out to be wrong uns’, whereas the other houses were full of saints. As if that would happen in real life! Then again, people don’t fly round on brooms, turn each other into small woodland animals or travel back in time in real life, so maybe my point is completely invalid...It also suggests that Hermione is starting to get an inkling of where Severus’ loyalties lie. I think it would benefit their relationships if she comes to trust him more before she masters the occlumency and he can confide in her. I’m not sure if that’s the way you plan to take it, but it’s just an idea I had. I do wonder what those Slytherin girls are up to, though. All that etiquette sounds very tedious and I can’t believe Cillain feels he has the right to dictate to others what correct behaviour is. He’s a Death Eater for crying out loud! Someone who belongs to an organisation who spend their Friday night raping, pillaging and torturing shouldn’t really be lecturing on the polite way to make introductions! I hope Hermione tells him where to stick those books!I really enjoyed this chapter, and I can’t wait to see where you’re going to take the story. Although I will wait, patiently and politely – Cillian would expect no less :D

Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
, thank you for giving my story a try. I know with the warning and how bad/mean Severus was in the first chapters that this is a hard story to read. The abuse is hard for me as well, since I abhor child abuse, but it’s mostly implied or tempered – somewhat. We know in canon what some of the torture was, and poor Neville looked horrible – and apparently Seamus as well – so that’s all going to be explained – their cuts, bruises, and how/why they got them. Poor Hermione will have a fair share as well, I’m afraid, but yes, Severus is protecting her (and Cillian and Draco) the best they can in the situation. I’m glad that you like the way the relationship is growing between Severus and Hermione, and there will be loads of tender moments to help balance the other stuff.
I agree with you on Slytherin and the way JKR just dumped them all in the ‘bad or coward’ file. But then she did a lot of that sort of thing in her book – the short way out! You’ll be finding out a lot of ‘truths’ about Slytherin in this one – things I have worked out regarding Salazar Slytherin and the students/families that are/were in the house. Also a bit of history about the founders that may differ from what/how JKR envisioned things.
Yes, things will be better if there could be more trust between Hermione and Severus. Yes, she can see bits of his true self, but she’s already Occluding. He’s seeing what she wants him to see – what is safe because he already knows it. The secret stuff is tucked away. However, its him that’s keeping closed off, and she’s afraid to tell him – but that will change shortly, in a chapter or two. Then you’ll see a deep trust grow. And a lot of answers too.
Oh those girls. lol and Nott – and there are others. Slytherin is my idea of that ‘noble class’ behaves, and the social games of the elite. Did you see Titanic the movie? The scenes in the first class dining room? How rigid everyone was and how proper they all pretended to be? Same crap. Hermione will likely never really cave except to play the role when called upon to do so. Likely, the Slytherin girls will learn how to take off the gloves, relax their shoulders and laugh like they mean it. lol But there is a lot happening in Slytherin that is going to come to a head – and the DA is going to have a heap as well. Christmas and New Years = turning points.
Thank you for the review and I appreciate your support.
Oh... questions, questions, and more questions. What are those Slytherin girls up to, and why was Glenwynn's parent's home searched? Plumbing? I doubt it, too. And what is so special about their wine cellar? Now Severus has taken the Sword of Gryffindor from Hogwarts, and Hermione doesn't know where he's gone. What a great chapter, bea!Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Tee, yes, so much is going on behind every scene. That wine cellar is very important - you'll see. and where he's taken the sword - some where to have something done... but you'll find out next chapter. I'm glad that you enjoyed the chapter. Hugs~
What are those Slytherin girls up to? :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
hmmmmm. Thank you for asking, but it would ruin the fun. lol Thank you for the review, sunny
Yay! An update!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Self-Writing Parchment)
Yep, a update! With another chapter with my beta if you can believe that!
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
WOW! I *am* impressed. Now, don't go taking offence to that; I meant it. I have a WIP, and I am so stuck on the chapter I'm due to update, I haven't touched the thing in ALMOST THREE YEARS.I just. *can. not* get past that chapter. I considered just writing it, leaving it as miserable as it is, getting it beta'd and posting it anyway so I could move on, and that thought made me nearly abandon the entire story! So, yeah. I *AM* impressed with an update after a block. Most especially because I can't do it!
I enjoy this story, your writing style and can't wait to read more!!
