Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

oh boy, nothing really good comes from people eaves dropping, yikes
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Indeed!
Now that's just like a fella, won't kiss with tongues but will smoke a stinking fag! Talk about infecting the body with "other" elements. geez, come on sevikins, you'll like it, trust me all too well. whoops kinda got caught up in the moment, oh boy, its saturday, lets see what happens next.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
LOL! Yes, he definitely needs to rethink his priorities!
I would think I would be readay too! yeee haaaa. sweet chappie, shame on her friends, I understand bu they could at least hear her out first, gits!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh yes, her friends. They have a lot to learn!
*sigh*Severus is just so wonderful. I love the way he wants to carry her back to their dungeon.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
He makes being a paranoid control freak look romantic, doesn't he? (Just kidding. A little.)
Response from Merlinsbeard (Reviewer)
He is just so Mr Darcy!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And he would hate that.
Poor Hermione -so sick but so deteremined to go home with him. Great chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. I can't blame her for wanting to go with him.
ok so what caused the explosion i know the bed bit her but what happened after that or did i miss somethingand why is pecry so piised about her being able to block the ministry
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Percy is pissed because he's a little officious prat and is offended that she is blocking him from his job (which happens to be monitoring the Marriage Law couples to make sure they're copulating).
There will be more about the explosion in the next chapter!
I don't know if I have told you this yet, but I am completely in love with this story, and I don't want it to ever end!Seriously, though, excellent update, as always. You have such a talent for writing and conveying the complicated emotions of this very complex relationship. I love it.And I love the banner!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Isn't that beautiful? And did you click on it to read the quote? Thank you so much for your review. I'm getting to some very difficult areas to write and your words help so much.
Response from kizzy7 (Reviewer)
I just went and clicked on it to read the quote, which makes it so much better! *sigh* Love it.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
My squeeness knows no bounds!
Oh boy, meeting the parents and what a lovely couple huh? Wonderful btw,for a moment i thought it would really hit the fan. very good
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I had lots of fun with them, once I realized that I was bored with dentists!
*gaspsigh* I'm so glad she's okay! Oh, I was so worried about her! The little tender moments between Hermione and Severus are so. . . lovely. They are what really brings the story alive (although your terrific writing could also be held accountable), and they are writted so perfectly. . . so touchingly. . .Anyway, I'm glad Hermione's okay, and I can't wait to see what the whole thing with the bed is about! (Should I know by now? Am I just stupid? Or is it supposed to be a secret. . . ?)Thank you very much for another thrilling chapter!~Katie
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Nope, you're not stupid! But much is about to be revealed about the bed.I love those little tender moments, too. And as much as I know he hides them from others out of self defense, I think he'd also hide them from others on general principle!
Why do I get the feeling that allowing Albus to leave with that handkerchief that has Hermione's blood on it could end up being something Severus will regret later? Probably because you layer your mysteries. My list of questions grows. What is with that bed and why did it target Hermione and leave Colin alone? Did Colin get anything in the photos that will help? Does Albus really believe that Snape won't do what is needed if he is in love with his wife? Why did Hogwarts set up their marriage to be more than Albus intended? Will Severus really make Hermione have broth for dinner?I was thinking about your story in my car on the way home from work. That is a sign of a really good story when I'm analyzing it while driving.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, some of your questions will be answered in the next chapter but not all! LOL!And thank you for the supreme compliment! I confess to pondering your story on many an occasion, as well!
I'm confused... What was she actually doing down there, what did it have to do with DD and how are they going to fulfill their requirement??? I want more, more, more of this story and already can't wait for the update! Great work! Thanks!gab
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I think you'll understand it in the next chapter, when they can speak to one another about it!
great depth to this chapter, Severus' thought processes complement the dialogue beautifully!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I'm glad this chapter worked for you!
Yes, I agree that Dumbledore is actually spot on here - she's a grown up and has her own rights, responsibilities, duties, etc., not all of which Severus gets to know about, for his own safety as much as for hers. Can't wait to find out what happened down there, what got recorded on film, and what that means for the coming battle. And what a lovely pair of healers they do make!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, it's definitely for his own safety. He already has to hide so much from the DL, why pile on more?
Another great chapter. I really enjoy this story and get so excited each time there's a new update to read. Looking forward to the next one soon. Thanks
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! The next one is written and only needs to be coded and modded before it goes up!
I was so excited to find that you'd updated. I've been cheating and reading ahead on ff.net, but I have a hard time getting my reviews to go up over there. I adore the way she said "my darling boy" to snap him back to reality. I also loved the way they chanted the healing spell together. *sighs contentedly*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I actually think "my darling boy" was a perfect retort to him even if she hadn't had ulterior motives! And I was thrilled to ask on my LJ about him singing incantations--was that fanon or canon? And being told it's canon, that he sang the incantation that healed Draco after Harry's Septumsempra!
Response from emmeline33 (Reviewer)
That was one of my favourite parts of HBP! It was one of the little clues about Snape's real nature that so totally seduced me. You made brilliant use of it here!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I read the book twice and listened to it on audio two times and still don't remember that part. I need to go look it up!
Ok I have probably already said this in an earlier review (at least I hope I did), but I really love this story. It is the first one I look for and at 50 chapters it still feels like it is just starting.
I am a bit confused by why Hermione took everyone down to that room and what exactly happened, but I guess that is part of the plot/plan and I can wait for you to lay it all out for me. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your next chapter as always, JoAnne
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much for your continued kind words!!!You'll get some answers when Hermione is alone with Severus!
Ok you simply must tell me what happened to the bed!! Did Hermione blow the bed up? Was it her raw (wandless) magic or what?? And Please – why did the bed attack her and not Collin? Obviously it recognized something in Hermione Collin doesn’t have, or is Hermione a threat? Bu then why was Harry able to get close to the bed – unless the fragment of soul in him …. Did the bed recognize Harry? Oh I would love to be a fly (or any kind of little bug) in the Malfoy manor at this time! I bet Narcissa’s expression was more than priceless and Lucius is really going to get it from his wife. Oh, sending a howler that both Narcissa and Lucius had to ‘share’ in front of the Dark Lord – delicious revenge indeed! Whoooya! To Hermione for those Howlers by the way – bloody brilliant! I hope they opened in Percy’s office with witnesses so that his embarrassment could be witnessed!! Oh please say he was in a public place when the Howler went off!! Please. Please! And the Minister and Umbridge – to have the Howlers go off with others around and have to endure the public shame and to be known as the perverts they are – OH PLEASE I shurely hope so! I so can’t wait until Ron gets his hands on Percy! TeeheheheBrilliant chapter and I’m really loving this story. Waiting for the next chapter eagerly!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You're asking the right questions, and answers will start coming soon. I'm glad you liked the Howlers. They were a delight to write!
Great chapter - but what bloody happened in the room? What about the bed? augh!!!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Much will be revealed when they're alone in the next chapter!
Wow hows that for the ending, gee I would really like some of that wizarding shaving stuff, no more razors sounds pretty good to me Hee heee, good chappie ;)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I would LOVE some wizarding shaving soap!!!
OMG Poor Severus and Poor Hermoine, I'm sorry for not leaving a review of each chapter I have been very caught up in this fic and very impatient to read the next chappe, I promise from here on out to try and leave feedback after each one. This is soooo good, I can't wait to read more, Love it
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I appreciate your comments whenever you choose to leave them! Thank you so much for letting me know this chapter moved you. This is the chapter where I feel the story found its voice.
Ah, so that was why the "darling boy" comment. Okay, now I see. Much less squicky now.And the fact that he had to half-sing the spell/chant/prayer was wonderful. I had the sneaking suspicion that he might have a decent voice if he were to sing. I can hear future lullabies now. Hmmm.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Future lullabies! Oh, yes.... Dreamy sigh.
Response from crazywriterchic (Reviewer)
I have such a bad habit of mentally ficcing fanfic. I have your Hermione and Severus's kids already in my brain and thier whole life stories thought out already. It's sad. Cute, but sad.
Response from crazywriterchic (Reviewer)
To clarify: the kids are cute, it's me who is sadly obsessed.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You've given them brats! I'm not sure they will be pleased. (What are their names?)
Response from crazywriterchic (Reviewer)
Edward (the oldest, looks a lot like his dad but with curly black hair and less angsty, more likely to laugh at himself; Ravenclaw), Semele (got the worst of her parents' physical traits: frizzy black hair, long nose, wide mouth, skinny, tall; Gryffindor), and Constantina, aka Teeny (the acknowledged beauty of the family, she got all of her parents' best traits; Slytherin).
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I love you.
Response from crazywriterchic (Reviewer)
The fact that I've mentally ficced your story decades into the future is just a mark of what an amazing piece of work this is. I don't brain-fic just any ole story. I need something to build off of. It's all you! And Rowling, of course. ;D
Oh my:)Severus is at his best in this story:) I find writing Hermione is pretty easy, but getting Severus RIGHT can be very tough:) you're doing it:) This is the Severus I like best:)Can't wait for more of this story:)Fizzabella
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Wow--thanks so much! I am flattered!
Good chapter, it was a nice chatty follow up to the bed's snakes biting Hermione. It was nice to see Sevrus's reaction and a little of his thoughts.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. He continues to have difficulty accepting his feelings and then having to block them, as well!
Severus is so gone. And Dumbledore deserves some sort of punishment.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I actually thought Dumbledore was spot on when he pointed out that Hermione had been fulfilling her role long before she married Snape and he could hardly expect her to report in to him on Order business. Not that I thought Snape would accept that answer. LL!
