Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
that is sooo dumbledore!! after dh i can't see him as the "kindly" one. what an interesting twist. love you love this story...and i look forward to further developements. thank so much

Thank you for your continuing reviews! They are so helpful to me!
Gah! Interfering meddlesome fool! has he not realised yet that Severus can do anything?!Please update!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Clearly he needs Sev's fan club to set him straight!
Ugh. You know, I can understand war and sacrifice and using people as pawns, but I do wish Dumbledore didn't try and act so pleasant and grandfatherly while at it. Of course, this way it catches people more by surprise and makes manipulation easier... *sighs*An excellent chapter again. I'm really glad to see how close Severus and Hermione have become.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, the Evil Grandfather. It's a role he plays to perfection.
Did I ever tell you I have to take notes when I read your stuff so I can leave a coherent review? In this chapter I had scribbled down “R+G+H hello its H’s b-day” and the very next section was Hermione being with her friends receiving her birthday book tokens. *must* have faith in the author to get there in her own time! That bit about a flex book token is pretty damn cool. I worry just like Hooch does about her “friends” that know about her wandless magic ability. I can just see Dumb and Dumber spilling it to the public.
All that business about H not being S’ type was rather heart breaking. For all her smarts her self esteem is shockingly low. I think S is doing a fine job of building it up. Especially comments like “I must tell you that over the past three weeks, you have become all that is beautiful to me."
I want you to know I smiled each and every time Hermione reminded someone “its my birthday” I do that too. I like for one 24 hour period to be all about me. My husband calls it “queen of the world syndrome” He gets quite annoyed at me by the end.
My favorite line of the chapter: "We are officially ordinary. I'm married to a nag."Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, thank you so very much! I can't believe you take notes! My gosh! Now I'm going to be nervous. And yes, she rockets between sublime confidence and confidence in the sub-dungeons!
In the paragraph "and what could he do then...." One sentence says as long as he was with him. Should be SHE. Otherwise lovely. Thanks. Ta.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you--will run fix!
I forgot to tell you in the previous chapter I thought it was hilarious the way Hermione kept interrupting him when he was attempting to tell her about his feelings. It was like she was pulling the words from him.
Severus did a fine job getting his wife gifts. He followed Malkin’s advice PLUS he contacted Mama Granger. That is impressive. You know a small part of me hopes the potion didn’t work and Percy’s beady little eyes popped out. Ha.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, when you put it THAT way, it's rather a shame Percy didn't get his comeuppance. However, there may be other ways....
I want to know why Severus has that book about child raising. I hate it when Hermione is lonley. I refuse to beleive that he just poisoned her. Oh you evil author!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And you are a splendid, wonderful, lovely reviewer! You can't imagine how it thrills me to follow you through my story, chapter by chapter!
I am enjoying the barbs and banter going between the two of them!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
They are equal to the task of driving each other mad!
OMFG! I CAN'T even believe Dumbledore would even suggest such a thing! Kill Hermione! Kill Severu's Hermione! WTF! If I didn't hate him before I hate him now. It makes me mad that he doesn't even say it he just manipulates Severus by telling him everything is at risk unless he does what must be done. God! I don't even know who's worse anymore Voldemort or Dumbledore.I love the new found closeness between Severus and Hermione though. They are just getting closer and closer. And as I've said before I love the fact that they are so closer without words of love or promises. The whole "Grow old with me" line was so sweet. I think Severus wants the same he just doesn't think he'll get it.And yay! She finally used his name! And OMG what a way to introduce it Mia! I don't know if I've mentioned it before but your sex/making love scenes are just terrific they really just suck me into the story and I get goosebumps every time. As I'm sure you can tell I love the chapter and wait impatiently for more.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! As for the love scenes, I try to make each one specific to that particular moment in the story and be at least as much (if not more) about emotions as about sex. I hope it works that way!
Oooh! Dumbldore is such an arse! Argh! The sevvy n hermione moment was awesome! Very sweet can't wait for the next chappie!

I'm so glad you liked that. Thank you!
Oh. My. Gosh.I...I almost don't even know what to say. You had me in tears not once but twice this chapter. The "Grow old with me" part and then the end. Wow.This is simply too good for words.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You have no idea how much your words mean to me! Thank you!
Another marvelous chapter! It was great to see Albus, the heartless bastard, willing to fall on a sword himself for a change. I know he does this in canon, but in canon he's already dying and we really do have to wonder if, heartless bastard that he is, if he would have been so quick to die otherwise. It makes me like him just a tiny bit more that he is here.On the otherhand, Hermione hearing him describe his thoughts and feelings about his sacrifice scares me a bit. She's just too noble and brave to think, "Oh, gods, don't kill me to ensure that you can survive and Harry will triumph."But I'm not asking for spoilers. No, no, no. I'm patient and am actually really enjoying that your story is coming to us all in scrumptious nibbles that we have time to savor and reread and think on before the next bite comes :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Don't worry, I won't spoil.
As for Dumbledore, I was very aware that there was no way in hell I'd have come up with that if it hadn't been that JKR proved him capable of anything in DH. Gah!
Ever since "that book" I've always thought that Dumblydore was a very manipulative man, but you've changed that for me. In one of your replies to a review you described him as "a general".......................you're so right, he is and I've never viewed him that way before. I guess it must be hard for him to ask all that he does of Severus (and other Order members), however, I still don't like the way he only ever thinks of the greater good and not peoples feelings.I love the way Hermione called him Severus. For me it was a way of them "becoming one" - if that's not too mushy a description.Loving this story and you are, without a doubt, a brilliant story teller!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, I think Dumbledore was a cold, manipulative bastard, and yes, it was "that book" that did that to me. However, I think generals have to be cold and manipulative bastards. It's probably a prerequisite. But once I saw him throw Harry to the dogs that way, I realized he would/could do it to anybody. But I could never have even dreamed of this particular plot twist if DH hadn't happened, because it simply would have been too unbelievable for me. But now? I think it's all too believable. After all, look what he did to Severus in canon.Thank you so much for your kind words!
Very beautifully written! That was so important that he wanted her to call him by his real name. I think i've told you before, but I was reminded of it again, that at times this fic reads like poetry. I want you to know though as I was reading, I saw a couple of things that I wanted to let you know about.I'm writing and am almost finished with another HG/SS fic. I used that saying "in the arms of Morpheus" and I wanted you to know that I wrote it a while before I read this. I was very concerned about you thinking I was plagerizing, so I wanted to bring it up. I also have in my fic about Hermione giggling, but you said it just annoyed him, whereas in my fic it kind of turns him on, but he doesn't like it. I just wanted to bring those two things up.I am just on the edge of my seat wondering how on earth is Snape going to handle this order to kill Hermione? Dumbledore can be a right bastard when he wants to be. I thought he was rather cold-hearted where Snape's feelings about Hermione was concerned.Excellent chapter, it had everything! Please update soon!Livvy
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Don't worry about the similarities. This stuff happens easily and w ithout intent. I've discovered similar things in my own work. Right now I'm waiting to point to a fabulous and angsty fic from my LJ, one that has existed for years but I only recently read. Unfortunately I saw a plot twist that I'm using and it freaked me out, because I'd never seen it before. I'm waiting until after my story is finished to post the link because I don't want to tip my hand in my own story, but believe me, I do know what you're talking about!Thank you for your wonderful review!
I know I'm repeating myself but WOW is the only thing that came to my mind after each chapter. Humour, longing and despair are so subtly mixed together I don't know which I feel most. I want them to be happy, to get out of this mess safe but the further the story goes the less they will be alright. There's always this bad feeling that something very awful is gonna happen. And if it does to one of them, it will break the other because they seem to have gone beyond the point where they can't live without the other. And I'm afraid that even you can't save them. The story has to go on whereever it does. So I better prepare for the worst in case of my feelings were unfortunately true.Sorry for this: I couldn't express it in quicker way.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Never apologize for such a wonderful and heartfelt review! Thank you!
Wow, what a great chapter!! I can't wait for her reaction! Please update again soon!gab
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm working on it now, and will post as soon as the chapter is ready. Thank you!
Okay now I must honestly say Albus is a bastard if he thinks Severus will kill Hermione. Well done as always. Irish
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Albus is a general. He moves pieces on a board. We've seen him move and manipulate Severus for years, after all.Thank you!
Well, these two chapters may have been challenging, but you have certainly risen to that challenge! This is devastating--and wonderful. I love how you have told it from Hermione's temporarily blinded viewpoint and then continued it as she listens in while pretending to be drugged. This is some complicated and terrific writing, and I think you have managed to convey the conflicted feelings of all involved. And she finally called him Severus!!!I am so looking forward to finding out what exactly was going on with the destruction of the last Horcrux and the photographs thereof, as well as how in the hell Severus is going to get out of fulfilling Voldemort's final command. This is just great!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! As another writer you see between the lines and behind the curtains of how the different scenes are written, don't you? I'm glad you liked them!
The ultimate test of love and trust. Hermione is no actress, but she should get an award for feigning sleep while her husband and Albus discuss the Dark Lord's order.Of course, Albus is ready to organize the execution squad. Severus is going to fake her death. I wonder what the castle and the magic that changed this marriage has planned?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, they've made a real hash of things and it's going to be hell to sort it out. The castle will of course have to get involved before it's over....
Oh my - this is going to be hard.Thank you for another great chapter!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It is hard. Thank you for feeling it with me.
The audacity of some readers! *points to self* Since this chapter has appeared at the ff.net, I waited for TPP to catch up to let you know. I waited and waited, getting more and more anxious as to why it is still not up. Really. Some people have no respect for privacy and do not understand that authors actually have a real life outside fanfic domain. *points in the same direction*With two great chapters at one time, we should be thrilled by your genetosity. Yey, we simply demand more. This is just too good. I hope you will excuse this rant, but I enjoy the story very much.My question here is whether their name calling was a character driven event. Because the Miss Granger/Professor thing fitted them so well, I'm sorry to see it gone. It is understandable in a way that they might move on, but...I sincerely hope that the demanding reviewers did not push you towards it. Although, it would be very understandable, as you had to defend that over and over. It is my shame that I never spoke up my preference for this little detail. Loosing it seems like a fit punishment.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
The names, yes, the names. I can't deny it was greatly influenced by reviews, but I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't begun to feel the need from them, as well. Oddly enough, it wasn't when they spoke to each other but when they thought about one another that I began to feel a bit of awkwardness. However, don't assume that they will suddenly drop "professor" and "Miss Granger" completely. I still stand by the fact that when they are old and grey they will still be addressing each other as such!As for real life--it isn't real life that has been holding this up. It has been that these chapters (including the ones I'm working on now) are simply very challenging and draining to write. I do wish they were coming more quickly, truly I do!
Response from nata (Reviewer)
We are grateful for any frequency of updates you are comfortable with. If the chapters are challenging to write, we will enjoy them all the better. When their time comes. Thank you for your comprehensive reply, and I'm happy that the formality of address has not disappeared completely.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, no. I'm in the next chapter and not a single Severus or Hermione has cropped up yet. LOL! They're very 19th Century that way. I suppose being a daughter of Winchester Cathedral (Jane Austen) has influeced Hermione more than she knows!
I really do not like Albus in this one. The emotion though that Severus felt and what you wrote was great. He is in love with her even if he does not say it. His is a very telling word and the way he cradled her was proof.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. Yes, he adores her. It's so hard for him.
Mother of Merlin, I'll KILL THAT BASTARD MYSELF!!! How dare he assume that Severus will have to Kill him(Albus.) Oh gee, an old wizard vs the 'brains' behind Potter. Dumbledore the old vs the best friend. OH I can see how relieved he must be that Sev shall not have to kill him, but kill Hermione instead. He practically ordered her dead by unbreakable vow. WOE be it to the headmaster when Hermione finds out and heaven help him if Harry chooses to believe her over Dumbledore. Is now a good time to mention dopplegangers? The she could die and live. OMG, I'm on pins and needles for the next chapter! ***offers unlimited worship on my knees at the feet of your beta and your muse, and you too for good measure.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Your worship is greatly appreciated and will be forwarded to my beta, for sure! Thank you so much for your passionate review!
Albus is a bastard. I wish he was the one Severus had to kill.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Hmm. Maybe that could be arranged. Oh wait. It already was! (Damn, why didn't I steal borrow that from JKR when I borrowed her characters?)
