An annoying event causes Hermione to choose to spend the Christmas break in seventh year away from her best friends, but Dumbledore feels she needs someone to watch over her. How will Hermione react to the appearance of the Potions master on her doorstep -- and how will they interact when cooped up alone together for days on end? This story was written for the SS/HG Winter Exchange on Live Journal, for the prompt: A weekend alone for Hermione in the Granger's residence. Suddenly the Potions master turns up on her door step. For whom the bell rings, it rings for you.

Oooohhhh... He's falling for her!!

Oh... She's started to kind of care for him! I can't wait until they fall in-love!
I've just re-read this for the umpteenth time, and it's still as magical as the first.
Thank you,
Beth
I just reread this happy story and fell in love with it all over again!
(((Hugs)))

Author's Response: Thank you, Beth. It makes me very happy to know it still makes you happy to reread it.
Here I am again, back for my annual tut of disapproval at Hermione's blatant misuse of a teapot... As ever, I adore this story - and you.
This is the sweestest, most romantic story I've read in awhile. Utterly enjoyable.
You are possibly one of the best people to write Severus's character. I got the metaphor between this story and 'The Little Prince', however I don't think the whole 'I had to pretend to be dead for three years and let you make yourself miserable, are we okay?' thing is really reminiscent of what Hermione would actually accept. One would think, in three years, even in light of the necessity for top security, that since she so obviously grieved for him, searched for him and pined for him, not to mention that she is the war heroine that could be trusted, He could have gotten a message to her, or at least Dumbledore could have enlightened her not to give up hope. It has just always made me soo mad the way Dumbledore is some master puppeteer and that Sev NEVER has to account for his actions or apologize! I really like this story though, as it seems like what probably would happen if such extraordinary circumstances became real life! *****
I just finished reading this story for second time and I believe that each time where I will read one of your stories, I will discover new incredible details in their plotthat will pull me more deeply in your alternative universe. And I will love your writing more and more! keep up the amazing work! Thanks for writing and sharing your stories with us!
A very satisfying romance. I loved how honorable Severus was and how their love stood the test of time and absence.
This was exquisite
I love how you show Severus's vulnerability in this chapter, that he's opening up to her even though he doesn't want to.
Ah, this was a lovely chapter. Everything moved along nicely and not too quickly. Although I do think it funny that Severus thought of her as a child until he landed on her and... whoops! Realized she was a woman.
Well, he's a little nicer, however, he's got a long way to go. I like how Hermione is very easy going with him, even when he's a total jerk. Loved the microwave scene.
I love this chapter so much. It's filled to overflowing with small companionable and hinted at intimacies that made me go all squishy inside. The tumble down the snowy hillside left me breathless. I so wanted him to kiss her...
Some more of my favorite things:
• her washing his hair
• him telling her stories
• them sharing hot cocoa after she had startled him during his nightmare (err, restless sleep)
• His thinking, "I don’t care! he thought defiantly, bending and grasping the sledges in his hands. I can have this time. The rest will take care of itself."
• Her thinking, "I don’t care! she thought, moving to take down bowls from the cupboard. This is the way it is right now – and now is enough. What will be, will be."
Just a wonderful chapter of them getting to know each other. Thanks!
Beth
It's amusing to see Snape becoming acquainted with all things Muggle in the Granger household. Irradiated food, flat silver discs that play music, and videos (whatever they are) that play movies. And my favorite part is her finding him asleep with his fingers curled in the ginger fur of a sleeping Crookshanks on his stomach. Oh, and Miss Granger's foot stomping episode about the lack of a Christmas tree. Yeah, I like that.

Surely this isn't my first read of this lovely, wonderful, romantic tale. I was in the mood for something both romantic and smutty, and who better to scratch that itch than the ever-marvelous Subversa! You write like nobody's business, my dearest one. You bring these two so incredibly to life, so believably together. And the image of a half-naked Severus lounging by the back door as Ron and Harry draw their own conclusions is indelible. You are a marvel. Thanks for giving me Christmas in September! Can he come and practice on me sometime??

~Huge gleeful smile~Coming from you, precious, that's a lovely compliment! And this was one of my earlier efforts, written in the autumn of 2006 for my very first SSHG Exchange. This version of the professor is a personal favorite of mine, and his propensity to rub the Daft Duo's nose in his intimacy with Hermione made me squirm with delight as I wrote it.You have my permission to steal him and school him properly any time! Just don't let Hermione catch you out. She throws a mean Stinging Hex.

Dear Subversa,
it was a complete coincidence that I found your story. And only after I read half of the first chapter, it occured to me, that this is a chrismas story - which I'm reading in August ;)
You made Hermione watch all this chrismas movies and at the end she mostly cried. Congratiulations to you, you made me cry as well! It wasn't particulary sad, th second part was just so emotional. And I can honestly tell you I loved it!
Thanks for this story,
Fly
Loved the 1st chapter - Ron is such a wanker is he not and Severus is so true to form here. I do not want to but I will kind of attitude. I wonder what will happen when he shows up at Hermione's house?
Wow, that was amazing.
Very fine writing. It had all the elements that I believe make a good story. Drama, romance, humor and good grammar! Thanks so much.
You made me cry.In Part 2, Chapter 1: Blue Christmas 2000, when I read the sentence, "Although they had found it all but impossible to praise the questionably heroic acts of someone they loathed, they were yet too well brought up to speak ill of the dead." I thought my heart would break. I was not expecting it, and it came out of the blue like a bolt of lightening, and I cried. When I was finally able to finish reading the final chapters, I was so happy and so completely overwhelmed by your ability to create such an emotional roller coaster ride of a story!!! Ms. Rowling should be very happy to see what wonderful writers are able to do with the framework she has built.I had posted an earlier review today for "His Draught of Delicate Poison," for the final chapter, and I listed the stories you have written that I have read. That list mistakenly included "Send Not To Know." When I realized my mistake, I quickly found this tale and read it from beginning to end.I am in awe of such gifted writers as yourself, and I want to thank you for the pleasure you bring to your readers.Sincerely, Beth
Oh to be so gifted. Kissess and huggs from

. Well done.
Finally! I've loved this story before. I've been having a hard time since JKR killed the fantasy lover of the last 8 years. I've been afraid you magically tallented writers would let him go. I'm so glad you and your gifted counterparts have kept him alive. I hope this doesn't offend you but, to hell with JKR! I hate her now. She is mean. Severus Snape still lives. He would never have been so stupid as to let his gaurd down and not stayed one step of the ugly voldimort. Which Postions Master and life time spy worth the name Postions Master would have ever gone into Voldemorts lair without antivenom! Dose she think we are also that stupid?
Fantastic writing, enchanting plot, Grade 'A' smut. Loved it.Thanks for a wonderful story!Sue :o)
