An annoying event causes Hermione to choose to spend the Christmas break in seventh year away from her best friends, but Dumbledore feels she needs someone to watch over her. How will Hermione react to the appearance of the Potions master on her doorstep -- and how will they interact when cooped up alone together for days on end? This story was written for the SS/HG Winter Exchange on Live Journal, for the prompt: A weekend alone for Hermione in the Granger's residence. Suddenly the Potions master turns up on her door step. For whom the bell rings, it rings for you.

The unspoken "and I can't" is SCREAMING. UST is such fun.
I like that Crooks was helping Severus.
Terrible, terrible. Migraines suck muchly! I'm glad Severus had a potion. I wish he had something for his nightmares.
Yeah.. I want a cranky put-upon potions master for Christmas. Well I do, but that's beside the point! I don't think Hermione will appreciate the thought in the beginning.
Oh, I do love this story -- *and* the fact that you had them have a daughter called Rose.Really gorgeous story, and I will never tire of reading the part where a well shagged Severus opens the door to Harry and Ron -- positively priceless.
Am re-reading your absolutely wonderful story here. Was delighted by the opening John Donne poem as well as by "White Christmas" here -- my favorite holiday film. And I daresay that reading this story is rather like enjoying Christmas biscuits right out of the oven - refreshing, warm all over, delightful, sumptuous.
What a beautiful story :)
It made me cry ... the work of a brilliant and talented author :)
This is most definitely one of the most beautiful stories I can recall reading. I'm not usually one for angst, but you portrayed Hermione's heartache wonderfully. I can't help but think that it would not have been healthy for her to have continued like that for the rest of her life, so I must thank you, on her behalf, for returning Severus to her. I look forward to reading more of your work.
christmas at it's best
Oh, this is an amazingly beautiful story! I acctually felt a warm, fuzzy and umistakingly Christmasy feeling when reading the story, could practically hear Hermoine singing (just wish I could'a had some cookies too). And just a final question. I dont have my Deathly Hallows copy right here to check in , but was not one of Hermiones children named Rose in it? Or has my brain gotten completely addeled by too much Severus...? :)

Yes, Rose and HUGO. I read Rose and nearly fainted! LOL!
Loved it!I was cringing and laughing all the way through (not at the same time though!)I was so upset when he left!! It was awful! How could you?! lolAmazing.
Cool! A lovely base of bitter angst with just a hint of honey drizzled over the top. Excellent. And I see Ronald Weiner is enjoying the taste of his trainers again! Poor Won-Won. ;)
I LOVED this story!!!

Uh oh. He's pretty pissed.
I really enjoy your use of words, or rather non-words, like unwisdom and discomposed. It reminds me in a way of how Lewis Carroll used words-that-weren't while still making his meaning abundantly clear. The meaning you are intending comes across much more potently than with standard English words, almost as if they are being hit with a hammer. Thanks for that. I think it makes your story shine.
And here I am, thrown out back into reality, hm?
Le petit prince is an all time favourite of mine, and the gift-exchange was a very powerful image - Hermione really has become a woman :-)
What a sad and terrible ending to this chapter, though.
Looking forward to part two - but it's way past my bedtime now...
I do that, too - crying when I get really angry, I mean. Very annoying.
I'm really glad she stayed with him - not that going with Ron the brat would have really been an option.
"She ought not to go about looking at men like that!" :-)
A wonderful enchanted Christmas evening - and what a wonderful kiss this could have been, had he not remembered that she was still his student... Well, maybe it is for the better at this point... We love him for his morals, too, don't we ;-)
This is a really intense chapter - I loved the scene in the snow :-), the first moment they skip out of their newfound comaradie and realise that the other really is attractive...
"She wore pyjama pants adorned with Christmas trees, with an oversized crimson sweatshirt; her hair had been pulled into a plait, and her feet were stuffed into those preposterous bear-shoes. The sight of her gladdened his heart." - don't we all want a man like that ;-) AND he stole a christmas tree for her! Nice reasoning, there, by the way!
"Panic seized him. “I am not showering with you!”" Poor Professor Severus...
Ah, what a nice scene - want to wash his hair, too!
It all really has a dream-like quality to it...
Love how she's starting to integrating him in her "family"christmas, as soon as she's over the initial shock of having him there.
The microwave scene is still as hilarious as on the first read, as is the whole "Severus against the muggle contraptions"-attitude.
And for some reasons his nightmares make him seem even more approachable.
Oh, and: “The man actually wanted bad weather,”. Snicker.
