An annoying event causes Hermione to choose to spend the Christmas break in seventh year away from her best friends, but Dumbledore feels she needs someone to watch over her. How will Hermione react to the appearance of the Potions master on her doorstep -- and how will they interact when cooped up alone together for days on end? This story was written for the SS/HG Winter Exchange on Live Journal, for the prompt: A weekend alone for Hermione in the Granger's residence. Suddenly the Potions master turns up on her door step. For whom the bell rings, it rings for you.

Hi,
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
! Thanks so much for letting me know that you're enjoying the story. Two more chapters.
:( leaving it there?? i need more!! so sad.. poor hermione, having to live thru that, thinking that he could be dead! severus better suck up pretty good! am looking forward to tomorrows chapter!! *hint hint - no skipping out*pyro
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Hi, Pyro! I guess he will have to really "deliver" to make it worth her while, huh? It was a horrible thing for her to have to live through, and she is definitely worn down by it all - but she has not given up.Ok, I won't skip out, LOL!
oh my...She sure is a bitter woman. Very obsessed with Severus and finding him. It's a swift turn you make and it kind of leaves you breathlesss. It's not what I would have imagined Hermione to be from your previous chapters. She seems to know their 'friendship' is only within their one little world but now she is an angry and bitter woman, isolated and mentally 'broken'. Can a fragile and short love do that to you?Why is Dumbledore hiding Severus? He did know, I'm positive! It's so cruel.Hugs Carmille
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
I don't think I would call her bitter, Carmille. I would call her damaged, though. Hermione didn't experience the love as fragile, or short. She experienced it as all-encompassing. She was immersed in him - for a very short time, but the circumstances were such that for those days, which seemed so perfect to her, he was her entire world - and nothing that she has experienced in her life since then has come close to measuring up. It was all the worse for being unrequited - she was left both positive and unsure - she has no closure and she can't let go.More about Dumbledore's actions to come.Hugs back, doll!
Finally they are together again but will time and absence make a difference?? I hope they can find a way back to where they once were.I can't wait to here his explaination of his avoiding her.Looking forward to your next chapter.

Hi,
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
! Will time and absence make a difference? It will have to make some difference, because she's an adult now ... and surely the lives they have lived apart will have some impact on who they are now.More to come soon!
Such a moving story you have here. I think I am getting totally addicted to your writings. I love The Little Prince. It was and still is one of my favorites, my kids love it as well. I can't wait for your next installment. I hope they can find some happiness together.
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
My husband told me he loved me for the first time the night we read The Little Prince together. Thanks for your support, my dear.
Certainly you know that this was one horrible chapter!! Poor Hermione! Frankly, I would have learned to hate Dumbledore from this. He was flat out cruel. It would not have harmed anything if she had just been told Severus was alive. Mean, mean, mean!
So, how quick can you get the next chapter up? And I hope you've got all the meanest out of you system in this chapter!
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
I know it was painful to read, my dear - it was certainly painful to write. Dumbledore's position is the most untenable one in the whole story, I think.Next chapter will be up on Friday - and my Slytherin will tell you that I will NEVER get all the meanness out of my system!!
You can't leave this here! You just can't! This is too cruel for words. Please tell me the next chapter is written and just waiting to be uploaded. Please. What a strong emotional chapter. My heart was breaking for her over and over again. You are very talented at those painstaking heart wrenching verses. I re-read some HDoDP today and once again, your emotional sections are by far some of the best I have ever read. Thanks so much for the update... now update again if you don't mind! Hugs, Muggle Mom
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Hi, Muggle Mom! Aww, you know I have to be cruel sometimes, or you wouldn't be anxious to know what happens next! And, yes, the next chapter is written and I will upload it sometime on Friday. My heart broke for her, too, and I could *feel* it as she went from body to body on the battlefield, looking for him. *sniffle*I am happy to know that you feel the emotions when you read them as I felt when I write them - you are the one for whom I write! You, and others with tastes such as yours. Thank you for telling me that. Bless you!
Thank God for the promised part 2! I started reading this story this morning, and was almost late to work, didn't want to leave it. I finished to as far as you have written this evening. I love it! I'm not much of a Christmas person, but it's been fun celebrating with Hermione and Severus.
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
I'm glad you've read, even if Christmas is not your favourite time. Yes, three more chapters to come. Thanks for the lovely review, my dear!
grrrr, damn tonks and those evil death eaters. Well I logged on late tonight so at least I have the hope that a new chapter will not be long in the waiting.
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Greedy, greedy wilder! Of course, we are *all* greedy when it comes to our Potions master, are we not?I imagine a new chapter will be up very soon, my dear. Thanks for the enthusiasm!
Ah, the plot thickens! More soon, I hope!
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Yes, the next update should be within a day or two. Thanks,
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
!
You say "Three more chapters to go!" like it's a good thing!
I'd say about three chapters too short, at least!
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
LOL! Love the icon, and I feel appropriately chastised, I promise!
Ok you've done it again. Not only is the interaction in this chapter wonderful; the ending is horrific! "I was never here, Miss Granger" -- What is that about? Does he know something about the attack at the Burrow? If so, how? And to just leave it hanging... this brings up a more worrisome point: What is going to happen when the story is over? I am getting so used to fresh, high quality, insightful writing from you (with or without evil cliffies) that I am beginning to think when this is over I will go though major withdrawal. So therefore, I have decided that you cannot end the story. You must keep writing forever. (LOL) No seriously, I look forward to reading it all. Can't wait for the next bit. Thanks again, JoAnne
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
I think "I was never here" was his way of bringing himself crashing back to the real world - and dragging Hermione there with him, across an emotional field of broken glass. He immediately reverts to Dumbledore's spy, and Hermione's friend is gone.I'm so pleased thatyou are enjoying the story, JoAnne. Thanks for the lovely note.
well, this sucks. AFter they get close and cozy and all. . . I am very anxiously awaiting the answer to this cliffie!
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Hi, YLang! I am a very, very bad Author to give you such an evil cliffie, I know. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! You know how quickly I'm updating, so more to come very soon!
Meanie, they were just getting cuddly!
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
*hangs head in shame*
“Your move, Severus.”
Dear Merlin, the portent of that!!! I can't wait to see what it will be myself
There's so very very much I like about this chapter. I feel like I could write a page-long review *L* Starting at the top though . . .
Christmas morning was wonderful! I especially liked two things: when Hermione sniffs at Snape's proclamation that he won the race, and Severus's attempt at tieing a bow. The poor man tried! And I hadn't thought of Hermione's gift to him in such a way when she bought it, but how true about a school girl's gift versus that of a woman!! Bravo!
Moving on, Snape and Hermione's guessing game with the tea was excellent - did you make all of that up, or is there really tea with all that in it?
I like how Hermione is more brazenly breaking him down now too, with the caress and reading The Little Prince/watching the movies.
As for the ending . . . *LOL*
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
*looks portentous*The bit about the gift, school girl versus woman, was expanded on due to the influence of the divine Snarkywench, my beta for this story. I did a major re-write of the gift scene according to her suggestions. I am forever in her debt. Thank you.My Slytherin has a box of liquorice tea, and the ingredients list is faithfully reproduced! Thanks for the howling mob. You know I can't resist a quick update!
Aaaaarg! I gnash my teeth and pull my hair at you! It is only because I wish for Hermione to unwrap one more Christmas present. I would say that I long to strangle you but that would leave me without your wonderful stories. You Minx. For leaving me so bereft I am deduction 20 housepoints and you will be serving a weeks detention in the dungeons......now what you actually do there please post here so we might all partake.
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Ah hah! I see your evil plan! Give Subversa detention with the Potions master so she will write PWP!Wait. That's not evil - that's BRILLIANT.Poor Aurora! But there is more to come, I promise you - we will eventually live up to the rating!
Hello DearYou literally made the reality come crashing through the door. Hmm... Superb written. I like the way you make them interact with each other. The chess scene and reading scene was just lovely. Nice book to spell out their emotional conflict. *LOL*You make some small passages about their thoughts and it is so well written that it ballance nicely with the rest of the 'action'. So non 'irrelevant nonsense' here... Not that I thought there would be. *LOL*I would never hurt you, hun... even though the ending of this chapter is devastating. It was bound to happen. I like it a lot. Keep it up. Big hugs, Carmille.
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Hi, Carmille! Yes, I sent reality crashing in with poor, clumsy Tonks. Severus and Hermione interact together nicely, when no one else is around to make them self-conscious. I know the ending of the chapter was quite a wrench for the reader, as well as our One True Pair. Thank you for your support, my dear.
Oh, this is my favorite chapter! You take us on such an emotional rollercoaster. It's fabulous. There is so much to love in the chaper, I don't know where to start!
The exchanging of gifts was fantastic and I love that Severus was able to have his first real Christmas.
Of course, my favorite part is the reading of The Little Prince. When he says, "You are the rose" I swear my heart clenched.
The end of Part 1 is so wrenching and yet in some ways so expected. They couldn't hold real life at bay indefinitely and certainly came crashing in, didn't it? The last three sentences .... guh. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. You never cease to amaze me, my dear.
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
I'm so pleased that you like the story so well. It is an emotional experience for us to read about Severus this way, isn't it?You are absolutely correct about the end of the chapter; their idyll had to come to an end sometime. Real life never stays away for very long.Your devoted support for my stories never ceases to amaze me, my pet. Thank you.
I have followed this story greedily fom the very first chapter, and sign on everyday in hopes of reading a new chapter. I really love this story, and how you don't rush thie story. Please keep writing!
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
Hi, Mills! I'm so happy to know that you have enjoyed this story so much. I'm not likely to stop writing soon. More to come! Thank you for taking the time to drop a note; it means more to me than you know.
This is such a great story... happy to see it here on this site too. Standing by for the next chapter. :)

I read this all the way through for the first time today. Wow. What a horrible place to leave it (of course, you are known for that!) Its really heartfelt and endearing. I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks so much for sharing your talents and time with us. Happy New Year and Hugs to SubHub. Muggle Mom
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)

Don't you *enjoy* to be left hanging? No? *writes that down*
More to come, my dear. Thanks for the note!
You vicious, evil woman, you!!!!!! That is the equivalent to a cooler full of ice water being dumped on us! Talk about ending the idyll!!!!! Christmas was so sweet and then THIS!!! I'm gonna be hard pressed not to pee my pants while I wait for more!!!!!! heeheehee
Response from Subversa (Author of Send Not to Know)
*blinks*
What in the world are you ON about? I gave them presents! And chess! And Christmas dinner! And liquorice tea! And The Little Prince! And "I am the Fox/You are the Rose" -- and sleeping in front of the fire. I gave them everything! And Tonks pounding on the door! And Hermione saying, Don't go! And Snape saying ...
I get your point.
Response from Bentwaters (Reviewer)
Well when you go listing the "pluses" to the chapter like that, how can I stay mad?? EASILY! Mwahahahaha!!!
