Hermione's life takes an unexpected turn due to a medical issue. What she wants is still possible, just not with the man she thought she'd have it with. Meanwhile, Severus is being pushed in different directions. Luckily, one of those paths lead to Hermione. This is a take on LOTM's YLC Challenge.

So happy for the update, and I liked this chapter. Yes, it said what was expected, but I think it was a very necessary chapter anyway. Besides, a Severus who finds he at some level already cares for Hermione proves that he has accepted her as his wife in his mind and hart, and I love a Severus who cares for what belongs to him:-))

:) Me too. Thanks!
I wouldn't have minded being a fly on the Grangers' wall when Severus gave them a talking to.

We'll see it what happened. :)
The big question, of course, is what did Severus say or do while at the Wilkin's home? Hopefully he controlled himself (at least somewhat). And he is feeling protective ... happy sigh. :)

We shall see soon. :)
Oh, dear. What did he do?

It is sometimes so much harder to mend things than we expect, especially when trust is destroyed.
I remember reading a story once of a young boy with an issue controlling his temper. His Dad had him pound a nail in the back fence every time he lost his temper and pull a nail out each time he controlled his temper. Hundreds of nails were pounded into the fence but eventually all of them had been pulled out. The boy was quite proud of his self-control when he showed off the nail-free fence to his father. His father praised him and then told him to look at the fence, at all of the lingering damage, and consider the work it would take to heal the relationships damaged by his thoughtlessness.
I always think of this when something regrettable happens and time may pass but the relationship is changed. Sometimes it can get mended but it becomes a different relationship. Sometimes better. I've seen this especially in situations where infidelity has put a marriage on the rocks and counseling has resulted in improved understanding and communication -- but the marriage, though healed, is not the same as it was pre-cheating.
Severus may have provided additional information and perspective about the reality of the risk, but healing the relationship will take a lot more communication and understanding. Hopefully it will be healed but it will not go back to how it was, and it can't because she is not a little girl anymore.
But Hermione is right. She needs to deal with her willingness to over-rule the free will of others with what she "thinks is best." Otherwise, Her need to control will destroy everything she holds dear.

Thanks! I will.
I'm glad Hermione got the chance to see her parents, and let them know what was going on. I'm dying to know what Severus said to them. I can only imagine how visual he got with his description of what would've happened.

I'll have more up soon. :) :)
It was an excelant chapter, reminding us that Hermione still needed the approval of her parents to marry. It also showd that Severus is truly begining to care for her. Loved it.

It did. I breezed right through. Very happy about that. :)
Interesting way for Hermione to make Ron face the truth so they can both move forward.
Ooh, well done with this chapter and glad to see Harry urging Hermione to tell Ron and get it in the open. Can see Hermione's reasoning from both sides, but shouldn't this be an option discussed between Hermione and Ron rather than just Hermione making the decision?
Oooh, Hermione should have taken more time to assess the situation before heading over to Ron's. Hopefully now that she sees Ron is trying to move forward she'll take the time she needs to figure it all out for herself.
Aw, poor Severus.
Interesting twist for Hermione taking a chance like that after what she's protested so much about...
Enjoying the story and the backstory to their progression into going their separate ways.
Aw, poor Ron and Hermione. Nice to see them talk things out like adults instead of petulant children.
Too funny Lucius and Severus's conversation about 'activites.'
It's refreshing to see a mature and thoughtful Ron instead of the completely inconsiderate cad. Maybe tikme to think clearly is just the thing they need...
Well, at least she realises that it's not all roses before things get too far...
Hmm, unsure Hermione and the jealous dog... Sounds promising doesn't it?
Poor Ron, got the wrong end of the stick, he did! :)

Most reviewers bait Ron here, but I think you explain very well where his emotions come from. Hermione did not play fair, and she knows it. BTW I'm glad we don't have Veritaserum in the Muggle world--alcohol does a bad-enough job at times. Ron hastened into this relationship while still pinning after Hermione, and now Samantha is the one suffering the consequences. A year or three of re-grouping is what Ron really needs, and yes, growing-up along the way would not harm. Sadly, his focus on starting a family and the example he sees in HP&GW won't let him take a break, right? I wouldn't expect Lucius to be of any help--esp not to a Weasley. I wonder, though, if Severus would indeed hex Ron that badly--he's always soo ruddy level-headed and mind-boggling 'correct' in your story. Now I'm curious where you take this!

Veritaserum would be terrible in our world. :) Ron will be back in three chapters after this one.
