Reviews for A Man's Best Friend
There is something so sweet about the way Severus is talking to the unicorn, soothing and encouraging him. It's so sweet in fact, that if I were the unicorn, I'd probably impale him with my horn. What the hell? I guess we'll find out all in good time. Another great chapter!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Unicorns! You can't trust a horse with a freaky horn on its head.
I love how the tables are turned and Hermione is now the incredibly talented witch teaching Severus a thing or two. Now, what was that stab from the Unicorn for, I wonder? Lovely chappie as always. Truly one of my favorite stories right now.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Thank you very much.Shouldn't be too long until the next chapter is up, and on with the story.
omg. The unicorn certainly knows something.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Who knows with unicorns. Thanks for your review.
Is that unicorn's name Charlie, by any chance? :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Uh huh, that'll be shining bright! No corrections needed in this chapter - well done, Pen.

Wahoo! :D
Holy frak! Why did the unicorn do that?In regards to Sirius, is he going to end up remembering what Charmaine told him and regretting that he didn't listen? My guess would be yes, but that's only my guess.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Holy frak, indeed. Why did he do it? Read on and find out. The next chapter is in queue. Thanks for reviewing.
Interesting - it's as if the Unicorn could foresee what would someday be there and wanted to prevent it somehow. Or perhaps he took offense and wanted Snape to know in no uncertain terms.Did Hagrid give away Charmaine's true identity with the shortening of her name? I've had my suspicions for a while, now.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Protection or pay back? Hopefully, you'll find out soon.
Great chapter!!! I loved the scene where Hagrid catches Severus peeking through the keyhole. Miss Charmaine had to speak quickly to save him from the half-giant. However my favorite scene is when Severus and Charmaine are in the forest taking care of the unicorn. It was brilliant that the creature could understand what Severus had said. I cracked up when the stallion rolled his eyes at the words of clear longing Severus said about having her work her magic with him. As for the unicorn's horn driven into Severus' left forearm, I hope that the magical creature was placing his protection on the young man. It must be that. Severus will need all the protection he can get. Thanks for the quick update! BTW, Sirius and James are a couple of beige jobbies, aren't they?Beth
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Protection? Hmm.. will think about that.I'd say James & Sirius aren't wee jobbies, they're keech (a good scots word, which also means excrement, but more a term of disgust for filth.)
Lupin being interested in the Death Eaters? Nice twist!!! He seems such a gentle and caring character, I can't imagine him being drawn to Voldemort's politics.I'm glad that Remus was able to explain what was really happening when Severus overheard what was said in the Shrieking Shack. I like them being friends and working together on the Wolfsbane Potion, but I wonder how all this is going to work out after the Hogsmeade weekend. Mademoiselle Bien-Aimée/Hermione is having a more difficult time coping with what she knows is going to happen. I hope she will be able to gather her wits and her courage to be able to help Severus. It's very clear that there is a story behind the story where Severus is concerned. His life depends on her being able to carry through on her mission. There are so many directions you can take this story, and I can't wait to see what you have in store for these characters. I adore your Severus and Hermione. Heck, I adore the entire story!Well done.Beth
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I reckon it's the excitement and novelty, not the politics, that's drawing them in.Thanks for reviewing, Beth
I would suppose Severus is still a virgin at this point if the unicorn would let him near? Or are these like the unicorns of "The Problem With Purity" who accept non-virgins whose conscious is clear? And what's with the horn jab all of a sudden? If it's not Hermione (and I still think it is), she's still got insider information about the future which could only be because she is from the future. Good story, btw. Can't wait for the next chapter. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Both of them, and Hagrid and Dumbledore, would have to be virgins, wouldn't they? Who knows with unicorns? Thanks for reviewing again.
still laughing about the wee beige jobby. And OUCH on the unicorn getting his arm. Perhaps it will deter a dark mark????
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Can't give away any hints about the Dark Mark, but if you want more of a laugh about wee beige jobbies, and you can understand the thick scottish accent, check out Billy Conelly's rant about them on youtube.
great great chapter....loving this story..and such a skillful Hermione:)

Thanks for the enthusiastic review
mmmm, chocolate! Very, very good. Of course I've had my suspicions about this potions mistress from a while back. LOL.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
The world is much better with chocolate.
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
It is a big part of my weightloss efforts. LOL. Seriously. I decided to find ways to NOT cut out the best stuff. I make hot cocoa using skim milk, ghiradelli cocoa powder and stevia for the sweetener because it's the only calorie free sweetener I can tolerate. I have a cup or two a day. I generally don't have other desserts. Sometimes I do but the cocoa really is perfect for keeping me feeling like I'm not missing out. Then lots of fiber and fruits and veggies. I've lost 34lbs over about 18 months and I haven't gained any back in that time. I'm stuck at a plateau that will require more exercise to eliminate, but I'm pretty happy with what I've managed to accomplish.Nobody should have to cut out chocolate. I have docs who tell me to cut it out because of reflux but it doesn't bother me as long as it's my cocoa.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Congratulations on an excellent effort.
OMG, poor Severus. What AWFUL timing.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Poor Severus, indeed. How could things get worse?
oh no! Poor Severus. It's not fair he should have to endure so much.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
It's only going to get worse.
Stupid bullies. Love the story so far. I like the differences between this and the original. I'm okay with alternate universe stories.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Teenagers!
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
Yep. I have one now. He's 13 and unfortunately at risk to be a bully target. He has asperger syndrome. Fortunately, most of the kids at his school know him and are very familiar with disabilities. The school has its own special olympics team. The kids who have it worst are the ones who are "different" but not enough that they have an IEP and extra support. Also kids whose parents are very rigid about hiding their child's "invisible disability". Asperger Syndrome is invisible until a child is having a meltdown. Otherwise they seem very, very normal.Maybe this is one reason I like Snape so much. He's an awkward kid who gets bullied. UGH.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Have you read my one shot - Otto? You may find it strikes a chord with you if your son has Asperger's.My brother has Asperger's, so I have some idea where you are coming from.
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
There seem to be so many people with AS around! I haven't read Otto. I will look for it.
oh dear, what have we here?Very good.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
What, indeed?
sad sad sad. Good start, though. I will be reading more.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I hope you enjoy the rest of it. Thanks for reviewing
Lupin in the Death eaters???
Hermione what have you done?
loved it more please
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Oops, what have I done? I'll be in the dog box now.
You're very good at alluding to something, yet not telling us a thing about what's going on.... very good...I am glad that Remus nipped Severus' jealousy in the butt but now I'm sure he'll be quite confused about all that rambling on by bien aimee. Haha, I just got the reference to her name. Call me slow, but I do catch on eventually.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
It's great to see you're enjoying it. Next chapter is in line...
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
Yay!
I'm really digging young Snape and Lupin as friends. And while Lupin is actually also friends with the enemy, he seems the type who can be neutral and make it work. Interesting that he has an early interest in Voldemort. And then there is Charmaine. She was getting ready to explain things to Severus. Was she really going to tell him everything? Is she supposed to? It doesn't seem like she was necessarily the right choice for this task. I say all of that as if I actually know what is going on, LOL! Still loving this!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I'm hoping it will all become clear later. Thanks for all the positive reviews.
Remus - the one who was originally interested in joining the death eaters? what an interesting twist.thanks for all your time and efforts, I look forward to your next posting
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Who would have thought it?Thanks for the review
Chili flavored chocolate? *shudder* As I am allergic to most peppers, I will pass on tasting. Besides I prefer dark chocolate with almonds (or plain M&Ms). ^_~ Good chapter. It's nice to see that my theories are playing out. *grin*
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Chilli chocolate is one of my favourites - dark chocolate with a spicy warmth. Leave all yours, and I'll eat them later.
Ha! Got in first. Only because you don't review yourself!Poor Charmaine is losing control, best she ups her game before she gives it all away. :0
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
It's all going to the dogs!
Well that overheard conversation is going to go a long way towards building a friendship between Severus and Remus, huh? I hope he doesn't sulk for too long, and is able to forget about Lily and James and get back to pursuing things with Charmaine. Oh, and nice version of the Mudblood incident
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Snape sulk? As if.
That was a disturbing chapter. James is really a terrible person. I hope that Severus canfigure out what he heard from Hermione. Poor guy. He's always getting the short end of the stick.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I agree, this James is not a nice guy, and poor Severus is miserable.
