Yay for quaffie! It's good to see this up. :)

At last, eh?
How have I never come across this before??? I absolutely loved seenig a different twist on the relationship between Severus and Remus, and adore the role(s) Hermione plays. I especially appreciate how she was a little older by the time she went on her mission, so that when it was time for her to testify, she was still unaware of how she had shaped their history.I also love Douglas (snorts at his name!) - he's a wonderful character, and it's always fun to see new bits of magic or magical devices, like the Blaze, its protection on Severus, and effect on Hermione and Remus. I'm so glad this didn't remain a one-shot!

You've probably not seen it before because I'm not a very productive writer, just a dabbler, and I don't advertise my wares much. I'mquite delighted you've found it and enjoyed it.Cheers, quaffie

I'm so glad you liked it!
You and your evil cliffies! I do understand Severus' thoughts, but I would hope that Hermione wouldn't react that way to him.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
You'd hope not, wouldn't you?
Oh, I hope the next chapter is not yet written because I have a grand idea. Severus tries to be his usual noble, self-sacrificing, (annoying), good-intentioned blah blah blah self, and turns her away. She is so angry that she attacks him and knocks some sense into him giving him puffy eyelids and a swollen lip. Then they can lie in bed together for days on end because it isn't safe for either of them to get up. Yes, it's decided, LOL.Another great chapter to a fun story (even if you decide to take things a different route)! Can't wait to see what she is ohing about. Surely it isn't because she is going to reject him. Silly man!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Hehe! What an excellent idea. Here, I'm passing this story over to you, now. Sort the daft wassock out, then send him over to Sunny who's going to give him a good slapping. Congrats to you on being one of the top reviewers. Your reviews are always much appreciated. Cheers!
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
I'd be happy to sort him out, but then Sunny would be looking for him, and I would find myself unwilling to give him up, then she'd be upset, and we'd be on the outs. It's just better if you keep him .. sigh. It's a joy to review. If people didn't write such fun stuff I'd be less motivated to do so :)
Severus always needs the chance to be oh so noble and self-sacrificing, doesn't he? Send him my way, and I'll slap it out of him! :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I've already done that, but he's still being a bit daft.
Severus, you silly boy! Would she reject him?! Oh I hope not. Oh she's surprised to find herself back in her own timeline, certainly. LOL. I can't wait for the next bit.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
He's always so pessimistic, isn't he?Happy New Year to you.
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
Happy New Year to you, too!Poor Severus. I hope some day he learns some optimism.
Dear, dear, dear. I'm all a fret. I eagerly await the next update. I can't think that her feelings have changed. I hope not. She went into this knowing the man first.Thank you again for sharing~

evil cliffhanger!!!still very interesting though - thanks for the updates
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
You're welcome.
Whoa! This chapter has me wanting to cheer because he kissed her and being afraid he's about to do something stupid to "protect her from what she thinks she wants."I hope she will put his fears to rest immediately before he has a chance to be "noble" and tell her that he really isn't the one she wants or needs. Please, Severus. She wants you. She needs you. And you want and need her. This just has to work out. Please? With sugar on it? Thanks for another wonderful and emotional chapter!Beth
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
You ask so nicely! I'll see what I can do in next chapter, but don't hold your breath. Congratulations on being one of the top reviewers, Beth. Thanks for all your enthusiastic reviews. It's much appreciated.Wishing you all the best for the coming year.
Or is it? Severus is always so pessimistic. Give him something to be optimistic about, girl! ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I'm trying, but you know Severus and optimism....
Nothing wrong with him that a good big dodd of slap and tickle with a saucy trollop (moi!) wouldn't cure.....but I digress. Beautifully written last few chapters Quaffie, that even my slow, alcohol-addled brain managed to take in despite all the clever TimePortkey devices and theories. It doesn't take much to confuse me though. Hope you had a good Hogmanay. We spent ours in a hot-tub in East Lancashire with VERY good friends. And yes it was FF! I think the expression is "Madder than a bag of badgers". Best wishes and all the best for the New Year, Love Ali xxxx.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Excuse me! You'll have to get behind me in the queue. My first-footer didn't have a lump of coal or blackbun, but brought me a packet of 'Twiglets' instead - a much better option. Off to the beach now, then a barbeque and a few chilled wines. Wishing you all the best for the coming year. Cheers! qwg(PS. You'd have to be a bit mad to put a badger in a bag in the first place, wouldn't you?)
Beautiful! - among many things, I love Severus the healer, but this moreso, as the culmination of all the intertwined past has come to this moment of new life for him as well as Hermione. Really breathtakingly lovely! Thank you!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I'm glad you're liking it. This is a finished story, and will continue to be updated as the chapters filter through the system.
Beautiful chapter. Well-done of having Severus remember, relive the memories and, as painful as it is, having love rekindled and tentatively lost forever, for him, again.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Hope you enjoyed it.
Wonderful banter in their dialogue - HA!, and love it that Severus gives her the alias name, so befitting, and the handkerchief connection!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
See, I knew I'd need that handkerchief for later in the story.
Love Minerva and Severus' relationship being shown, as well as the further intrigue and mystery surrounding Severus' work, Joanna and Hermione being drawn into the Deapartment of Mysteries.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
More mystery and intrigue to come.
Beautiful, poignant chapter... wondering how and if his other memories can be restored; so sad...
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Here, have a hanky, but not the one from the story please. I may need that later.
Really powerful chapter - the action and dialogues spurring the heat of the scenes on - reading on!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Thank you.
Great dynamic chapter - love Charmaine's involvement with the Longbottom's and Potter's, bringing everything full circle with the prophecy... and the deaths...
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
There's no escaping the prophecy
So Charmaine must stay to help them further prepare for the future, while still becoming more emotional vulnerable, knowing what the future holds... it will be a very difficult balance to hold onto...
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
It's a tough time for all of them.
Love Remus' randy good-natured humour - it's lovely to think there could have been a time of 'normalcy' and warmth, true friendship and trust... before the storm. Love Charmaine's quiet sadness and foreboding worry.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Remus is such a dag.
Love Severus and Remus' comraderie; the image of Severus having to attend Lily's wedding was quite painful/too much at first, but then got soothed out by his lovely reference to his own marriage and bride... and his love for Charmaine that he was finally able to force her to gear him out.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Lily's wedding - too much!
Love the teasing, humoured banter throughout the story, culminating here, and then the serious dynamic change at the end of this chapter with Severus' bitterness and disappointment sealing the final note.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
They work well together - until one or other of them screws things up.
Wonderful chapter - love Remus' forced transformation; the uncomfortable depiction of Remus in a cage... the beautiful gentle scene between Severus and Charmaine, about the reality of what the Mark truly is and will be for Severus.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
He's regretting it already.
