Reviews for A Man's Best Friend
Oh dear. If Severus has his way, she won't leave until he has the entire truth. That may prove to destroy the future,no?I'll wait patiently... or try. :DThank you for sharing~

What would happen if he did find out the truth? Thanks for the review. As ever, there is another chapter just biding it's time in the queue.
I couldn't believe it when Remus began transforming. All I could think about was what might happen to Severus. Sending his Patronus to Charmaine was brilliant... I'd forgotten about that. And when her Patronus came back telling him to fly, well, I just had to hit myself in the forehead 'cause I'd forgotten he could fly. *iz too forgetful today*
I'm so glad Charmaine got to Severus before Remus could attack him. When Severus was jerked back into the cage I thought he was done for. Thank goodness Charmaine arrived when she did. I know how distressed she was when she saw the Dark Mark on his arm, and after she told Severus that she knew he was going to do it I thought then and there he would begin to think that she knew an awful lot for someone who had only been at Hogwarts for a short time, but he didn't say anything... I'll bet he will be thinking about it though.
What will tomorrow bring? Will he tell her that Voldemort would like to meet her? What will she say to Remus about his having taken the Dark Mark? Sooner or later I know that all hell is going to break loose, and I can't wait to find out what happens. Thanks for another wonderful update.Beth

It's all going to hell in a hand basket. Thanks for reviewing
What a chapter this was! Voldemort seemed to be a bit picky about two half-blood joining his Death Eaters, but I think he was very impressed with Severus' somewhat successful attempts to keep him away from the memories he didn't want to share with anyone. But still the Dark Lord was able to find a way to see Charmaine.
And now the Dark Lord wants Severus to bring her to meet him. That's not good. I wonder if she will agree to accompany him to see Voldemort? One part of me thinks she will, but another thinks she would avoid that experience like the plague.
Severus was accepted because of his talent in Potions and his association with Charmaine whose specialty was Poisons. Lupin was accepted for his usefulness as a contact to the wild werewolves. And both of them had reactions to receiving the Dark Mark that were different from every other initiate. Thank goodness for the Unicorn Blaze. Maybe the silver crystals that formed along the outline of the brand will contain some of its most sinister effects. Lupin seemed to have an even more painful reaction to the brand than Severus did. I hope their unusual reactions mean that they will be able to resist the will of the Dark Lord.
Thank you for another great chapter!Beth

Voldemort's accepting anyone who may be of use.
Firstly what a brilliant title for a chapter. We have a labrador and there's just something about the word"dog" that I find incredibly amusing. But...enough of my havering. Again, your dialogue is superb but I must admit I'm not sure who Charmaine really is. I mean obviously she IS Hermione (isn't she?)and her surname means "Beloved" but couldn't her surname also be some sort of French bastardisation of Good Love....stay with me....Lovegood? Just a thought and not a very good one I hear you say. Oh hell...my brain hurts now. Ow,ow. Oh and delicious as it might be I don't think we need to see Sev taking Remus out for a walk on a lead anytime soon. Looking forward to much more. Best wishes, Love Ali xxxx.

Interesting havers. Someone will be passing round the headache pills. Thanks for your review
Probably where my commas would be without GrammarPolice. Loose on a polite society. *grin* I like the direction you took Remus after he tried to take the Dark Mark. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Where would we be without the grammar police? Perhaps, they should have taken Voldemort in hand as well.
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
Well, all I know is, she's a really good beta. And SlytherinsHeirx is great for offering to Britpick for me. Especially since he moved here to the States and got married in the past month. ^_^
Poor Remus. It seems Riddle ruin touches everyone in one way or another. Thank you for sharing~

His taint is wide reaching.
wake up and smell the roses Hermione....Severus loves you not Lily. Loved the flying and the mongral comment...
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Thanks for the feedback. The next chapter is in the queue, but there are lots ahead of it, so it may be a wee while.
~sniff~ ~sigh~ That was lovely yet heart breaking all in one. Each chapter just makes me want to know what's going on and how all this plays out in the future. Thanks for another great chapter.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Here, have a handkerchief, but not the one with the monogram on it. We may need that later.
You know those little black bits in your tea bags at work? Where do you think I hide your commas? :P
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I'll be picking them out from between my teeth for weeks, you evil witch!
So, everyone has decided that Charmaine is Hermione from the future. And I felt inclined to think that too. But the further we get into this mess, the less I am able to see exactly what it is that she is trying to accomplish. She deals in poisons so I assume it is something to do with that. But...??? You're making my head hurt trying to work this out. Shame on you! Guess I'll just pop a couple of ibuprofen and wait patiently... ish :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
It gave me a real headache, as well. I'm hoping it all becomes clear eventually. In the meantime, please pass round the headache pills.
oh man. what a mess. LOL. I can't wait to see how it will all play out. Poor things, all of them. Charmaine (yeah right), Remus and Snape.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
What a mess, indeed! I'm sure it will all just sort itself out soon.
Just read this from start to here and Oh Jesus....what a blast! I'm reminiscing about sweeties and jobbies (Christ what a combination. I'm an Anglicised Scot.) as your prose and plot is just fantastic. I'm adoring Sev and Lupin's teenage yet mature, clever banter and reckon it's as realistic as possible. I also think that Remus was a Northern lad like Sev possibly from Cumbria so they both have that sharp, witty mindset.....and the refined accents when older? No problem.....my husband was born in 1959 in Oldham, brought up in New Moston in Manchester and when I met him in 1976 thought he was a "bloody Southerner". Loving this very much. Best wishes, Love Ali xxxx
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Sorry, nae mair jobbies, but plenty mair sweeties!I'm so glad you're enjoying it. This is the first long story I've ever written, so I'm really pleased that the boys ring true for you. Like you, I reckoned Remus was either northern England (not north-east, though), or perhaps even Edinburgh.Ta muchly for the review!I hope you like the rest of it. The story is completed, and being uploaded as quickly as I can get it checked and validated.
Ruh roh! they both did it! Sort of. Wonder if Voldie will insist on seeing Charmaine?
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Throw them a couple of Scooby Snax and all will be well.
Hmmm... there is a lot to contemplate here. Why didn't Snape and Lupin get the same reaction to the Dark Mark as the other initiates? Blood status? Intent? Being a werewolf? Encounter with the unicorn? What is going on?!?! And I wonder how the conversation will go when Snape tells Charmaine that she is expected to accompany him to his next Voldemort gathering. Glad more is on the way because I am dreadfully impatient!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Could be any, or all, of the above. I'm sure any meeting between Voldemort & Charmaine will just go swimmingly.
I think their bodies were trying to tell them something. Pity they didn't listen. :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
You told them the crochet club would be better, but they wouldn't listen. Mind you, I'm sure they'd still have got into trouble with all those hooks and chains.
So Remus is and he isn't. Interesting chapter. Waiting for next chapter. *taps foot impatiently* ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Quit tapping your foot. The next chapter is line waiting for its turn.
(Snort.) It seems that the unicorn is far more aware than Hermione. As for The Twat -- yes, twat is a good word -- never mind. Too much to write on that. And don't tell me that the handkerchief has "SS" stitched in the corner. I'll love you forever if it has "TNT" (The Nagging Twat).
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Safe to say the initials aren't TNT. Only because it's a new, but very appropriate, acronym for our dear Lily. Thanks for your thoughts and for the review.
Charmaine is Hermione!!! right? I've been thinking she was a time traveler from the future for a few chapters now, but the whole "curse half-life" part makes me think HG.Thanks for your time and effort - i appreciate it
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Hermione or a time traveller? Interesting ideas. Thank you.
So Lily's not his lady love, is she. This is getting interesting if a bit short. Please update soon. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Short, but sweet. I rarely string more than a couple of sentences together, so this is a huge ramble for me. Updates are waiting in the validation queue.
I never really liked Lily or James (or Sirius) very much in the books, and this chapter hasn't made me change my mind about Lily one whit. I wonder what Lily will say when she realized that Severus has been tuning her out while she's been lecturing him. That's alright, Severus, you keep thinking about Charmaine. The Unicorn Blaze is an intriguing idea, and I can't help but worry what will happen to Severus when Lily fails to consummate a relationship with him. Of course, she might have a weak moment and share a loving interlude with him, but if that were to happen what kind of bond would be made permanent with Lily? Could the sealing have already begun with the care that Charmaine has given him... and could they not consummate their relationship? That'd work for me. 8^)I can think of one or two things that would make Severus press the handkerchief/Portkey into Charmaine's hands. He would do it in a heartbeat if it meant saving her from harm. There are so many paths your story can take. I love the twists and turns you're weaving into it, and I will be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next update. Thanks!Beth
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
But, Charmaine's his teacher, and that would be inappropriate. And what would happen if there was no consummation?Something to ponder, until next time.
Seems like the wrong woman is caring for him. I think Severus is begining to realize that too, a little. Wonder what that will do to his healing?
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
You'll find out soon enough.
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
No, I'm not thinking it's soon enough because I want to know now! :D
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Patience, my friend.
Oh dear. I can't imagine Lily will be much help. LOL. Excellent. I can't wait for the next chapter! I love this story so far.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Thanks for reviewing. Next chapter will be on it's way in due course.
Lily is such a twat! She and James really were made for each other. :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I trust you are using "twat" in the Antipodean / British sense. But, maybe not!
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
What other sense is there?;)
even in the books I didn't like Lily, I thought she was fickle and uncaring, and you show her perfectly...
loved the chapter and look forward to more
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Thank you. More is on it's way.
Now I KNOW Charmaine is Hermione. It seems perhaps that she should have stayed, instead of them getting Lily. Will the wound refuse to heal until Charmaine returns? I hope so.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
But, Lily is his one true love....
