Reviews for A Man's Best Friend
Nooooo! I was just there last night. *grin* Also Sidney, Melbourne, Japan, Iceland, the Orkney Islands, Montreal and Chicago. All without leaving my living room. Isn't Google Earth grand! Good chapter, btw. I guess Severus has forgiven Hermione. ^_^

I was there last night, too! and Sydney... and Easter Island - thanks to sunny33. Next week it will be the real thing (except not Easter Island).
Just remember us all back at work toiling over a hot stethoscope while you are frequenting those Edinburgh pubs and herding teenage boys through the Mediterranean. :P
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I've never met a doctor yet who has a lukewarm stethoscope, let alone a hot one. What have you been doing with yours?
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
PS. I've been told to herd the boys around the Med, not through it. Don't tempt me!
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
But just think of the fun you and the other parents could have if you accidentally-on-purpose lost them all...
Wow, can't believe he told her that, even when he was a bit perturbed. I guess time let him think things through. Well, you've left us at as good a place as any. Must you be gone for years? I mean weeks? He's so forward with her. I like that. Can't quite get how he'll get to the 'future' and whatever comes of that then. Have a great trip. will be eagerly awaiting the update on the other side of it.(They do make zip drives, you know.) [I know, I wouldn't want to be uploading stories off foreign computers while I was on vacation either, but just know that you're well loved and so is your story.]
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Sorry! Gotta go!
Wonderful update, I really liked it:-))

So glad you did. Thanks for reviewing.
Have a drink for me too please. My daughter lives in Dean Village in Edinburgh and attended Uni there the last four years. Brilliant place! I'm from Ayrshire originally though but she's a Mancunian like her dad. But as usual I digress. This story is a laugh a minute. It's so clever and witty and isn't young Sev a smooth talking bar-steward! Oh and Lily...the Ginger Whinger.....that's priceless but never truer words were spoken. She was a bitch in canon and being AK'd was too good for her in my opinion. Too harsh...I don't think so. And it was all going a little bit Spartacus back there too with Sev not too sure but not too adverse to Remus's ambiguity. Any port in a storm I suppose. Christ it's like Brokeback Mountain where I live with a gay couple as neighbours and gay dogs...honestly. Enjoy Auld Reekie my dear. Best wishes, Love Ali xxxxx.

Here's to ambiguity! ...and bar-stewards... and lushes...Just planning to have a few jars with my sister, visiting a few old haunts. Starting at Deacon Brodies on the Royal Mile, where I bought my first drink over the bar at the tender age of 16. Then maybe Grassmarket... or Rose Street... definitely Cafe Royal... possibly Diggers - too much choice! Best stop before I start to sound like a real alkie.
Response from aliciana (Reviewer)
Sounds like a plan. We had a brilliant meal at Cafe Royal after my daughter's graduation last year, June 2009. Mussels with everything or something like that...delicious. Hell, I even made my husband pay for two nights at the Balmoral which was grossly over-rated.....that'll teach me to book a hotel in Edinburgh during grad season or God forbid the Festival. We'll go to the local Travelodge next time. Again....enjoy!
Well, I'll say I was surprised that James allowed the in the church. Lily wouldn't exclude them. Thank goodness Severus got the tar from Lupin's hair. Funny scene. As always, thank you for sharing~

Eugh! Tar in the hair, what a nightmare! You're welcome.
I said it before but I can't remember what it was... Good one, mate! :)

Something about joining the crochet club, wasn't it?
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
Oh, yes. That's right. They would be better off joining a crochet club. In the Death Eaters, DC means Double Crucio, and a chain is made of metal! :)
Interesting chapter. Remus as a DE? Can't quite see it, but you're the author. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Do you really think I'd let Remus join the Death Eaters?
Response from MsTree (Reviewer)
I dunno. It'd make for an interesting story. ^_~
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
OK!
Cave Canem is the perfect title for this chapter. I thought Remus was going to beat the stuffing out of Severus. I can understand Severus' motivation for looking into Charmaine's mind, but it has put so much distance between them and caused her to withdraw her direct help to Remus, as well. No wonder he was furious with his Severus. The Hogsmeade weekends with their Death Eater meetings are an ominous sign. I wonder just what will happen when both of them seek to join the group. Will Voldemort deny the mark to Remus because of his lycanthropy? I'm sure he will want Severus among his minions, but I'm not sure if Remus will be allowed. I know Greyback is one of his followers, but I'm wondering if Remus will be told he must stay with Greyback's pack, or if he and Severus will be allowed to attend the same meetings and revels together. Now that I read over what I've just written, I realize it sounds lame, but I'm just "thinking on paper" to try to figure out what the dynamics might be after they graduate.I guess they will be able to be roommates while they attend university. Severus will study Potions, but what will Remus choose? How will his transformations every month affect his classes? Will he be found out and thrown out of university? So many questions.Thank you again for another fabulous chapter! I'm looking forward to the next one.Beth
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Severus deserves to have the stuffing beaten out of him at times. What a prat!
So, they're BOTH joining the DE's? Wow!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Yeah! Why not? I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Poor confused Severus. Remus is there for him and vice versa, but it's just not the same. Oh, young love. Shocker though to even think of Remus as a death eater. There must be something big coming. So well written. I'm enjoying the ride.Thank you for sharing~

Thanks for reviewing.I hope you are keeping well.
excellent chapter. I think I must have missed whatever you fluffed. I haven't read much recently.

I'm glad you missed the stuff up. Thanks for reviewing.
That's the second time he has entered Charmaine's mind and the second time she has slapped him. I can't help but think she is so adamant about discouraging him because of what he might see in her mind... the future that awaits him, and what only she (in this time line) knows is to come. Severus can't know yet what is awaiting him or everything could be lost. Dear Lord, what a mess is ahead of them. The Hogsmeade weekend isn't far away and I shudder just thinking about it. Somewhere along the line Severus and Remus may lose the friendship they have formed, and that would be sad. But you, dear author, could have something entirely different in mind for them... and for Severus and Charmaine. How much does Dumbledore know and understand about Charmaine and her purpose in coming there. From Lily's description of what she witnessed in the Headmaster's office, I'd say Dumbledore is well aware of what is going on.Lily is sorely misguided in her assessment of Mlle Bien-Aimée and her expertise in Poisons... Charmaine is going to teach Severus how to prepare Potions that will protect against dangerous poisons and venoms, isn't she? Oh well, just my thoughts.I'm dying to know what was written on that "scrap of paper she had been reading" when Severus came into her classroom. It has to be something very important, I just know it.Thanks for this great chapter. I've gotten an answer or two and lots more questions, and I'm looking forward to your next update!Beth

Your reviews are amazing. Thanks for the positive feedback.
Wonderful update. I love the relationship between Severus and Remus, liking this Remus much better than the one who were James and Sirius silent shadow. Still want to smack Lily's empty and shallow head, but at least Severus aint pining for her. I would have loved for Hermione to give him a glimmer of hope though, but I guess everything must be kept a secret for not changing anything....:-))I look forward to read more.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I reckon, if you're tough enough to survive being a werewolf, why would you trail around in someone else's wake.
Hmmmm... what is up with the wonky starburst when it ought to be initials? As long as they aren't LE it is fine. What does he see in her? I really like the relationship that you've developed between Severus and Remus. I do have to wonder though, how has it affected the relationship between Remus and James and Sirius? This continues to be great! Can't wait for more.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Glad you're liking the S/R relationship. Thanks for your positive reviews.
And I should have noticed. Oops! Loving Remus and Sev's relationship and all the insults they trade. :)
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Plenty more insults to come.
LOL, wondered about that. Well this is a sad turn of events. He's always been a bit of a hot head, and now he's gone and done it. Blargh!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Me and computers....
It *is* Hermione even if she's using the French words for "Good-Love" as a surname. Lovegood? The description doesn't fit Luna, however. ^_^
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Thanks for your thoughts.
that does make more sense! Loving your story...can't wait to see where it goes now!
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Sorry about the fluff up. Thanks for your patience.
if you loaded the wrong chapter that means you have more hidden, post please..I'm desperate. my own muse has left for her hols while the kids are home from school so I'm living vacariously through every one else's tales.
Loved this chapter. Poor Hermione she hasn't quite got it right. Hate Lily then I always do.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
Definitely more to come - they're all just queued up and waiting.Happy holidays!

Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
But, Lily is his one true love....Sounds to me Lily was his obsession, not his true love...A true love has to love you back, me thinks, to qualify as "one's true love" (Unrequited love comes to mind instead...) Can't wait for your next chappie...
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
What? Lily's not his true love? Darn! I'll have to change my whole story now!
Response from hopelesliehermnharry (Reviewer)
Don't do that, you're doing great....and I know that you know what I'm talking about....
i thought there was a new chapter, but I'm sure I have already read this one...puzzled. love it though
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
You're not going mad. There was another chapter, but I stuffed up & had to delete it. Another will be on it's way as soon as I can work out the gremlins.
Oh please, can't someone smack Lily's stupid head for me, rather hard too.... She and James Potter sure deserves eachother and while it migth be rather harsh to say: Any child growing up with James and Lily as parents are doomed to be a emtyheaded, spoiled brat that will make Draco Malfoy look like a candidate for sainthood. I love it though, my toes are curled in joy over reading a Lily I can dislike this much (never forgiving her for not forgiving Severus:-)) I am very much looking forward to read more.
Response from quaffswinegaily (Author of A Man's Best Friend)
I'll willingly slap her for you. More will be posted as soon as I have sorted out the gremlins of uploading the chapters in the wrong order.
oh God i have only now guessed - charmaine is hermione grnager from the future....... really cool.... brilliant story.
"Being able to read another’s thoughts without casting a spell is very rare indeed and usually only occurs between people who are intimate.”It appears that Mademoiselle Bien-Aimée is a Legilimens as well. And they have shared an incredible moment in the stores cabinet, and again as they danced. But Severus doesn't even know what a Legilimens is... so she must be one herself to have recognized what happened when he looked in her eyes on the dance floor. This was a very intriguing chapter, and I'm looking forward to Severus' new private tutoring with the Headmaster. By the way Severus was laughing after the Marauders had moved on down the hall, I have to believe that the The Moravian Mistixs are a girls Quidditch team. LOL! I hope the braggarts get their arses handed to them in New York minute. Thanks for another great chapter!Beth
