Reviews for Caramel
Poor Severus. His life is so very complicated and he desperately needs the supportive people around him yet somehow he hurts them. Sad Sad Sad! I'm glad Hermione doesn't just walk away. She's willing to talk and to work things out.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
So true about him. Nearly always true about wounded people--they hurt those they need and love the most. And she is good medicine for him, showing him another way to be. thanks for the review,

Awesome! thank you!
You're funny. That was a really good last author's note. I'm very glad you wrote a sequel (now I'm hoping that you actually did and postet it. Well, I'll see in a bit). It's a wonderful story and I'm amazed it's your first one. :) But, you know, if you didn't give them a happy ending, it's or else, right?
I can't help but wonder if that banter about "beg me for soemthing" and the "smirk" Severus will receive in return is not a moment of foreshadowing? I don't know how you're going to play it - if he'll tell Hemrione before hand or if he'll murder DD and then just split, leaving her to wonder - but if it's the latter then that line falls quite nicely into a possible situation further down the road. Anywho... still really enjoying this fic and anxious to read more.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
If you have read more, you know about all that. Glad you enjoyed the story--however much you read! Thanks for all your detailed, engaged reviews. *hugs reviews* :D
I liked the way you explained Severus' rationale during this whole thing. It helped to make him not seem like a letch - until the end anyway. He did come off a bit like a creepy old man to me right at the end, when he wanted to keep Hermione there so they could finish getting it on after she'd been spooked by the whole situation. Yes, there he was a little 'pervy'. :) But all in all I liked the way Severus a least momentarily thought about his actions and how he had initially planned to pull away. to "teach her a lesson". I thought he made a very good point - and again, it made him a lot less pervy - that he had jsut seen multiple instances of him having sex with her in all sorts of positions and of course he was going to react as he was merely a human man.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Yeah, super tormented and complex feelings for him. I think he was so unsettled, his usual restraints so shaken, that for a few crucial minutes he let his deepest desires have mastery. And then, it continued to feel so amazing he just let it go on... just... a while... longer... He is starved of love--starved. And suddenly here's a banquet. I can't really blame him.
Well, wow. Nice twist that it was a reciprocating spell. I thought maybe Severus "felt" it as like a dream, not for real. I am quite shocked at his behavoir at the end though. I thought maybe he was going to 'teach her a lesson' kinda thing, not truly ravage her. I look forward to seeing his justifications for his actions with his student - even if she does want him in return.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
That was such a complicated moment for him. He did want to teach her a lesson, but other, less rational parts of his brain had other ideas! It was quite a struggle there, and anybody's guess as to whether the "right" side won!
Even though I knew Hermione was going to do the spell, it still struck me how she had just berated Harry to Seamus for "using a spell that he didn't know anything about" (paraphrased of course) and here she was doing the same. I'm guessing Severus believes he is dreaming right now?? I guess we'll see. :) Looking forward to the next!!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
That was definitely the irony of that line. So often the things we accuse others of are just versions of things we do ourselves and are ashamed of. Poor Hermione!
Ooh! I usually don't read the post-ANs on fics as I am afraid of spoilers but I jsut happened to read this one this time and you left quite the cliff-y in it with the mention of the spell. I figured eventually Hermione would break and cast it, but I had no idea it'd be at the same time that she realized she could still live her life and also sort of 'wait' for Severus at the same time. I figured if anything it'd be a moment of desperation or something. Thanks for always keeping us readers on our toes! :) Also I have to go back to chapter 4 since Caramel is a song and you mention the lyrics being there (So much I learned from this AN! lol). The pace of the story is beautiful. I'm really enjoying the 'easiness' of it (if that makes sense?). And now I'm running off to the next cuz I can't wait to see what's coming around the corner. :D
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
As you know by now, it was kind of a moment of desperation. She has a lot of new information she's struggling to make sense of, and yes, she can perhaps wait, but oh my god maybe she CAN'T! :D
I like the way you are setting this up with Severus allowing the idea of the isolation he will be in when all is said and done to briefly seep into his thoughts. It's probably something he didn't really register before, or at least iddn't allow himself to think about, but now, with the addition of this spark for Hemrione, it has the fleeting thought just barely entering his mind and he is obviously not as 'okay' with it as he once was - though I don't think he is at the stage of really letting it truly bother him yet. That subtlety of thought is, to me, what is making this stroy so awesome. Just little snippets here and there so that it seems 'likely' that this relationship could come to pass rather than them being immediately attracted to each other or thrown together and starting a relationship. The slow build makes it much more realistic.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Thank you! When I was thinking about wrting this story, I felt that for her, the engine of attraction would be her awakening sexuality, which along with her personal heroism, admiration for his intelligence, and tender heart, would drive her towards him. For him, it would be the novelty of companionship and growing affection and attraction starting to make bigger and bigger cracks in the fortress he's made for himself. The thing about this is that, unlike many people's fortresses, he actually NEEDS his to survive. It's no fantasy--attachment to others is literally extremely dangerous both to him and the other. PROBLEM!! :(
This has been an emotionally gripping, sweet and beautiful journey so far. I am very happy to know that this will be a canon-compliant fic (minus the horrible epilogue and hopefully with a happy/hopeful ending for SS/HG). I fear for their future though, especially Hermione`s emotional health in anticipation of what will happen.Thank you so very much for sharing this amazing story with us! Greatly anticipating further readings, thank you.

Lovely review, thank you. *bows* *blushes* Thanks for being such a great reader.
I didn't expect it to end like that. Bloody brilliant. Good job.
loved it. excellent use of cannon but I'd love to see you go off cannon and get them together again. a heartbreaker.
I know angst makes the plot move so it's not that I don't appreciate it, I just want more
Fantastic use of sex magic! Wow! What a great chapter! : P
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Thank you!! Yay!
Almost didn't write this review because this chapter had 69 reviews and that seemed somehow appropriate.
However....excellent read, glad to hear there is a sequel as I do so hate to leave Severus feeling so lonely.
By the way, I LOVE the 'Finite Incantatum' banner at the end. Mucho awesomness.
Somehow I think the temptation - now that Hermine has the spoon - may be too much to keep her from casting that lvoe spell. I do hope it doesn't do something unintended. ;)
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
oh la, la, la.*looks around innocently*I'm sure nothing terrible will happen.la, la, la. :P
It seems here that Hermione is in love with the idea of her professor as she doesn't really know the man at all. She knows what he does of course, and that he's brave, but she doesn't actually know him as anything other than the fantasies she's created of a man she believes him to be.I am anxious to see if this aspect of her 'love' is tackled down the line in this story; if maybe, once she gets to know him a bit she realizes that what she used to feel (what she feels right now) was just the concern and a fantasy of a man she supposed him to be and eventually when she knows him better she will be able to make that call a little more realistically - with more than just fantasy to backup her vision of who this man is.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
But that's the way we usually fall in love, isn't it? Even when you're older than she is here, and have gone though it before, and know that it is almost pure projection, idealization, and fantasy, infatuation still feels like true love, and sometimes it develops into real love. There are almost always some bumps and rude surprises along the way, to be sure!
Wow, now that's wonderful use of a spell!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Isn't it? Could be good fun...Thanks, Deb!
Another wonderful chapter. I love that they have to sneak around it makes it much more exciting.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Oooh, it does, doesn't it? One of the illicit joys of student/teacher stories... :D
Oh I can't wait to see what this "seemingly innocuous" spell will do to our dear couple.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Yeah. Seemingly innocuous--and other famous last words. O.oThanks!
This is probably a dumb thing to comment on, but that "thank fuck" in the middle of the chapter really cracked me up. That whole scene was easy to 'feel' - Severus' relaxation, his casual strole down memory lane, his irritation at the intruding prefects... I really enjoy seeing these types of private moments with Severus and his thoughts. I loved the ending of this chapter as well. It left me a bit speechless thinking of all the implications, feeling a bit of sadness as well as a bit of curiousity about this man that is Severus Snape.

Hi
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
! You left me a whole bunch of reviews in February; it's now August and I'm going to respond to them all in a row. Sorry (so sorry) for the delay, and I hope you don't mind the little tide that's about to hit your inbox. You know, this was the first chapter I wrote that was from SS's point of view to such a great degree, and I really felt like I got to know him a little, especially in the interlude in the stairwell. I was scared to try it, but one it was done I really, really liked spending time in his company, so to speak. Thanks for reading and reviewing thoughtfully and at length. :D
I wish Severus and Hermione could stay together for the entire night, too. But at least they have the Percipio Corium to experiment with, and it seems to work well when their movements are coordinated. But practice makes perfect, so I think the will need lots of practice, like every night. And what was Severus up to reading that "crumbling folio volume in Old Ukrainian?" Did I forget something? I'll have to check back to see. Whatever he's up to, it's readily apparent that he knows just how to keep Hermione happy.I worry about What Ron, Lavender and Jill might do if they came to suspect anything is going on between Snape and Hermione.. I wouldn't put it past Ron to try to intercept her letter to Jill just so he would know what she is doing. Thanks for this fabulous chapter!Beth
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
The Old Ukrainian book is something that will come up... in the sequel. Yes, I am planning that far in advance. :D
I loved the name of the chapter, one of my favorite songs. And I LOVE where this story is going. I had thought the carmel was just a way to get them together, not keep them together. Very nice twist. I look forward to more.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Oooh, I love it when someone knows and loves the song. It's been such a muse to me for this story. (And, also, my apologies for replying to you so shockingly late--I am so sorry, and do appreciate your taking the time to read and review.)
Fabulous, absolutely fabulous! It was definitely worth the wait for Hermione (and for we readers), and I am so glad they were able to have this special moment together before things really start to go to hell for Sev... Will he confide in her, or allow her to think the worst of him when Dumbledore dies? I know Hermione won't want to believe that things are as they seem, even if he doesn't tell her anything, but it will be hard for her. I hope he lets her know something bad's coming down the road soon!I was also very intrigued by the mentions of Goblin magic vis a vis the Map in the last chapter (but didn't want to take the time to mention it in my review there so I could get on to this one), and I hope that you'll extrapolate on that a bit and the general workings of the Map as well. Perhaps Hermione will be able to create her own Map to keep track of Severus and his safety? The teaser for the next chapter sounds like fun--I can't wait to read all about it...
