I'm a 30 something home-maker, writer and researcher. Harry Potter fanfiction is my passion and my great escape from everything. I am deeply in love with Severus Snape and he is the only man I would ever consider leaving my husband for. I am most fond of happy endings. Life is too full of angst and heartache, my dreams and thoughts need something more uplifting.
I was born in Sri Lanka and have lived in India, Poland and now, obviously the UK.
I love food, so many of my stories will have detailed descriptions of things I'm currently craving. I also love travelling, the arts and crafts, cooking, baking, oil painting, especially the pre-Raphaelites, literature and culture in general. My favourite colours are at present are royal purple, silver, emerald green, true red and fucshia. Colour is like music, it speaks silently to the soul when it needs it most.
Reviews for What Is This Thing Called Love?
Molly and Ron both deserve a royal ripping Howler for their truly abysmal behavior. And Ginny deserves to scrub the Quidditch changing rooms with her toothbrush for the rest of term for egging the others on and shamelessly taking pleasure in causing Hermione as much pain as possible.I can only imagine Severus' reaction when he learns the specifics of Molly's attack on Hermione...

Mmm... though Severus is smart enough to let Minerva and Kingsley fight his battles for him. It's so much better when others lambast the Weasleys. Though I think in this instance perhaps he needs to be vocal and do something. I think though that Severus is trying to curb his instincts of flaying them alive. Ginny is really taking the cake. She's learning about how to control the darkness at school, but she's willfully not taking the lessons to heart. At least Ron and Molly have the excuse that they've not learned about it like she has.I do appreciate the review and the stars. Thank you for reading.xxx
Oh wow Molly is in for it now lol. I hope Ginny gets her just desserts along with Ron. They really need to come to grips that they need to control their darkness and quit being idiots. Loved that the staff supports them, I can't wait till the next chapter. Five stars plus a whole lot more!

Hello and thank you so much for the review and stars. I'm so pleased.Yes, I can't wait for Ginny to get her just deserts either. The three Weasleys are being utterly horrendous.

Indeed. They have gone completely beyond what is reasonable. They need to be given a taste of their own medicine, but I guess Hermione is still being foolish and doesn't want to descend to that level. Severus, well we'll just have to see what he does, if he does anything.
Good to have Minerva on side! :)
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Yes, definitely. Minerva's a good solid person to have on their side.
Excellent chapter, I felt so horrible for the way Hermione's parents treated her but like Severus told her they will come around. I loved that he went back and gave them his opinion of the matter. *GRINS* Now that last part of the chapter was extreamly HOT....I had to open up my window for a breath of air and its colder then heck outside tonight.

Hello and thank so much for the review and the stars. I'm glad you liked the last part of the chapter. I enjoyed writing it, a lot.As for the tirade, I thought it was important that Severus got to say his piece, but that it was done without upsetting Hermione. Also, it was important for me to have both sides of the arguement presented. And Hermione just couldn't do it - she was too close to the situation and far too emotional after her parents' rejection.
i adored severus' tirade at the grangers. they had some valid points but way overreacted. lovely update. thanks and happy new year smoochies
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello again. Thank you. I wanted to get both points of view across. Glad it worked out okay. Happy New Year :)
Always thought her parents would be pissed off! :)
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello. Yes, I couldn't imagine them not reacting badly, especially if she's not taken the time to prepare them for what was to be done to them which seemed to be the case according to canon.Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. Happy New Year.
So sad that the Hermione's parents seem inclined to put petty concerns over their only child. I hope they come to their senses soon. If her parents can't manage to find it in their hearts to forgive Hermione, let alone appreciate her sacrifices and suffering, then perhaps she is better off without them. But thank goodness Severus was there to comfort and help her find joy in the aftermath of her parent's rejection. With a man such as Severus by her side, does she really need anyone else? :)
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello my dear, thank you for the review and the shiny stars. I agree, she doesn't need people who are that petty minded, but I do understand their position. Especially if they believed the Prophet.Severus is a darling, I think I've projected all the things I'd like in a perfect man onto him. Hermione is a very lucky girl.
Oh, fuck... That was hot. I'm SO glad you decided to go for some kink in this chapter. A vanilla Severus Snape strains my suspension of disbelief. I believe you did a good job of tying Hermione's receptivity to his rougher attentions in with what appears to be a major element of the central conflict of the plot. I won't attempt to guess what the central conflict will be, but I don't need a degree in English Lit to work out that it will have a lot to do with the lasting effects of using magic with dark intent. You're doing very good work, and I look forward to the next chapter. Now, if you will excuse me, I think I might just revisit the last scene with the assistance of a handful of clothespins and my favorite vi... erm... That might be too much information. ;^)
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello. I'm glad my writing helped your enjoyment :)You're a very perceptive reader. Yes, there's more to follow in the way of the Dark Magic situation.
Wow! So hot, can't wait for more!

Hello and thank you for the review and stars. I'm glad you liked the steam :)
Late night research on sex. Of course! ;)
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Of course. Would our Hermione ever do anything without research? Thank you for the review.
That's[chapter title] obvious. Well written. *sigh... Happy holidays to you, kitty. Sara
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you for the review. Yes, I do wish I could ask Santa for Severus in my stocking. Happy holidays to you too.
I wanted to slap Ginny right across the face either that or send her a nice hex her way for the way she was acting (and I'm not talking about a Bogey Hex either . I'm glad Hermione as the support she needs after finding out who her real friends are and Ron and Harry sure showed their true colors. I look forward to the next chapter
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. Yes, Ginny does need a good slap.Next chapter should be up soon. It's in the queue.
what a pill ginny turned out to be. i think hermione went about gaining severus' trust perfectly. thanks for the wonderful update and christmas and holiday smoochies
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review. Indeed, Ginny has turned out to be a real piece of work. Happy holidays.
Ron's a jerk. Always has been, always will be. Would have liked to see some Sev/Herm interaction here after all that negativity with the boys and their new sidekick. Such audacity of Ron, expecting her to jump in bed with him when he hasn't even written.
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review. Indeed, but Severus is being really careful and I'm sure he doesn't want to be seen charging in to comfort Hermione after her horrendous day out.
Grrrr. I really don't like Harry and Ron here. They are as far from the friends they used to be as they could be. She should ignore them for now...and Ginny too. Harry and Ginny deserve each other and I don't mean that in a good way. Thanks, your writing is evoking anger in a usually very Huffelpuffian person!
Response from joyfulheart (Reviewer)
Oh and the evoking anger part IS a good thing. I enjoy reading things that connect me emotionally to a story!
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review and the pretty stars. I'm glad I aroused your anger and your emotions. Yes, Hermione is well shot of them, but she needed it brought home to her very clearly. She's reluctant to give them up and this nudge was needed to show that her growing up needed to be done in different circumstances. As they say, it was time for her to put away childish things.I'm really glad you reviewd. Please do keep telling me what you think of the story. It really means the world.
now I am caught up. I hope Neville will take the idiot boys aside and teach them about the darkness festering in their souls. (They would never listen to Hermione)Thanks for sharing this tale with us!
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review. I think at this stage they are unlikely to listen to anyone, even Neville.
It's really too bad that Harry and Ron aren't doing anything to cleanse themselves of the darkness inside of them; I feel as though things will end badly for both of them emotionally if they don't. Sure, Harry and Ginny seem to be getting along now, but if Harry doesn't take steps he'll probably screw up things with her and wind up old and alone, perhaps with several divorces under his belt.Good to see that Minerva and the rest of the staff support Hermione and Severus, and at the very least the two of them should be able to find solace in each other! As a matter of fact, I'm looking forward to reading about them doing just that...
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review and the stars :)Yes, they will find solace in each other very shortly ;)
Oh yeah--a completely sober and in control Severus will make her see stars! It just figures she'd have to literally run him down and grab him in order to tell him her decision, and best she managed to do just that first thing in the morning. Otherwise he'd have had all day to convince himself that she regretted the night before, work himself into a snarly fury, and then bite her head off before she had a chance to get a word in edgewise later on!Go Hermione!
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review and the stars :) I'm so glad you see Severus the way I see Severus. That's what I saw happening too if she delayed in any way in letting him know of her decision. Thank goodness Hermione is so tenacious and very Gryffindor.
Yay! Green light means GO.... go shag a Professor, that's what I say!
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review and the stars :) You've anticipated my plot :) Lemons ahead.
At least Minerva understands! :)
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you for the review. Yes, they are lucky to have Minerva in their corner.
Operation Lion Hunt, how amusing. And how sensible of Severus to look before he leaps ( or should I say, before he falls?)I don't find it surprising that Severus is attracted to Hermione, given his awareness, and acceptance, of Minerva's interpretation of the prophecy, but I do find Hermione's very quick attraction to Severus rather unexpectedly sudden, Still, it is not without a foundation of admiration, as you have established in previous chapters. An amusing chapter, thank you.
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review and the lovely stars. I'm glad you approve. I think Hermione may be falling for Severus quickly because she is starved for love and affection. Severus has always treated her with disdain, now he's paying attention to her and that is extremely flattering. This is the one man she always wanted to please, now that she seems to have his attention, she is falling rather rapidly. But I know I fell in love with my husband in less that 6 days [one night really] though I like to think I thought about it a bit longer :)
Hermione is going to take even more NEWTs next summer! Excellent characterization!Hermione may have many of Lily's good qualitites, but I think Minerva is jumping to conclusions. Perhaps a different sort would suit Severus better. Had I been Minerva I would not have let Severus in on the 'sercret' though, he is too contrary!
Response from kittyperry (Author of What Is This Thing Called Love?)
Hello and thank you so much for the review. I think Minerva is quite a good judge of character, and she probably wants to prod Severus. You're so right that Severus is contrary, but he's also suffered a lot, and I think he will pay attention to what is said, even if he pretends otherwise.
