A Non-HBP, Non-DH, AU DM/HG fanfic.
(Acronyms: The Next Parseltongue.)
Set in a world where HBP and DH never unfolded, this AU plot bunny leapt out and throttled me last night, after perusing some DM/HG "Head Boy and Girl" fics. I really hope to keep it short, and of course all my other fics are screaming for endings, but what's another unfinished project? :) Rated for future chapters.

Someone who really, REALLY ought to be doing something else, but just keeps on writing.
Wondering why my stories take forever? Have a look at My Other Time Devourer: www.willametteartcenter.com I'm both the webmaster and the president of the Friends of the Visual Arts, a 501-C3 nonprofit in Salem, Oregon. We Put The Fun Back In Art.
Having 2 sweet little boys tends to drag things out too.
And what the heck, as long as it's self-pimpage time: If you just can't wait for the next chapter of Fair Ex, you can always go buy my book. It's not HP or fanfic but it's got that Fawkesy snark (in spades) It's here: www.turondo.com Warning: there's a bad word in the title.

Haha! This just keeps getting better and better! Harry Potter eh? I wonder how he'll mix things up..
Nice touch on Mrs. Snape by the way.. I had to giggle some at that, as I'm a small, diminutive Pacific Islander myself. At least in some alternate universe of your creation, a lady of similar physical built can be Snape's one and only. Quite flattering, that.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
LOL! Maybe it's you! Except Draco was a little off in his assessment, being a British whitey snob and all. but that's all I'll say for the moment.
Response from myami (Reviewer)
I wish! Haha, and how off was he in his assessment? He was quite in a rage from Hermione's remark... so I hope it's nothing drastic!
Wow. What a twist. :) Thanks for all of the really quick updates.

You're welcome, but my muse on this story is running out a bit, so prepare for a slowdown.
Wow! Bravo! I thought the dance was great. I think the descriptiveness easily allows the visual. I was applauding that (and still am) until I got to the final lines and the 'sincere' comment - priceless and I think exactly Hermione's character that she had no malice behind it. And Draoc's internal (and external) reaction was exceptional. On a related note - there is a (IMO) very good drawing? on Deviant Art that I thought of when reading the dancing but I don't actually know what the rules are on links and such. But if you're interested in seeing it I can send you the link via email.

Ooh, I'd like that! Always looking for a hottie Draco to drool over :)
Oh, I don't think I wanted to see Harry. And wow, poor Madam Snape. That is a lot of things wrong.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Oh, there's more to come of Harry yet this evening. And Draco kinda summed up Mrs. Snape best.
Rollercoaster was a good explanation for that chapter. Poor Draco.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yup.
I love Snape's wife! Poor girl though, never having the one's you love hear your voice or being able to hear their's in return. I wonder if they were met/married before the curse....
Harry's timing sucks! He so should not be there when Draco's making itty-bitty progress with Hermione! Plus, when he leaves, Hermione's going to be in even a worse state than she was before the Ball!
I'm looking forward to the next!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Timing, timing, timing. Not sure when Snape got hitched, and Harry as always knows exactly when NOT to walk into a room. Next chappie will still be on Halloween night.
This is too funny. i can't believe he said" shes really fucked" So Draco can lead and do a Tango. I might fall in love.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
He can be cute when he loses his cool, huh?
Draco froze with the glass halfway to his lips until she looked away. He found himself fighting an impulse to take her hand as it rested on the table. "I can barely catch my breath!" the girl noted. He snickered his agreement. "Pity we never went into battle together." Her brows knitted just a bit, and she said, quite sincerely, "Oh, no. I doubt it would work if we were on opposite sides." Father had taught him the primary rule of engagement: Never show the enemy how badly you've been wounded. Draco forced his mouth into an icy smile. "Quite so," he grated, even as his insides turned to glass and shattered into a million jagged shards.
Poor Draco! He was opening up and being sincere, and she obviously hurt him without even trying or knowing that she did so.
I loved the dancing magic! And that they cleared the floor. I wonder how it looked to the outsiders...
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, she might have had a bit of a jab intended--he's never actually renounced old Voldy, after all. And I'd imagine everyone else was watching with rapt attention. ;)

Beautiful and romantic and sexy and then --

Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yep. It goes that way, sometimes.
I cannot WAIT to meet Mrs. Snape. When has he had time, the sly dog??"...for a few seconds it felt like he was with a friend." That twisted my heart a little.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Oh, it'll be interesting. I haven't decided exactly how freaky she'll be yet.
Okay, the HG/SS shipper in me shriveled but what an unexpected turn of events!
Draco doesn't even know?
I'm so loving this story!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
LOL, that's what "Fair Exchanges" is for (one of my other stories). And no, that sneaky Slytherin kept it from his own "nephew," the slimy bat!
You know, I'm really not one to remark on every chapter, but you really are hitting your marks. Bravo.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Double yay! Glad you think so!
Some chapters have slipped in without my notice, but I'm not complaining.
This one just hits my soft spots. I love it. Wunderbar!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yay! Glad to hear it.
Well, that put a stopper to the love-triangle-idea quite appropriately! Very creatively shocking though!
Or is it a farce? I guess we'll have to find out! I sincerely hope you won't plan to get distracted before you finish the next chapter, haha ;)
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah I had that planned... but who knows, maybe as couples, they could do a little swinging. Hee hee hee. Of course, if I was lucky enough to catch Snape, I'd be far too possessive to allow THAT.
I liked all the little changes Draco has been making, and especially this exchange between him and Severus:
"And you were unable to convince her of your 'sincere intent' to support the Headmaster?" That stung. "She's known me a long time, you know," Draco snarled defensively. "It's rather like you trying to pull one over on Mum." Snape made the slightest cringe, and a surge of vindication warmed Draco's chest. "Touche'," said the older man.
I love how Severus got Hermione to agree to go to the Ball!
Looking forward to the next!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Man, if I knew Mrs. Snape was gonna be there, wild Centaurs couldn't keep me away...
I really like how you've set up the reasons why Draco is being nice to Hermione while at the same time incorporating his deviousness with spying on her. Its a lovely start to your fic and I hope you update soon.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Thanks! That's what I was shooting for...
I liked that chapter quite a bit. It gives Draco more than one dimension.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah, it's about time he started to develop, I thought.
That was one large push in the right direction, wasn't it? Severus is so much smarter than Draco.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
LOL. Severus is the original insufferable know it all.
Love the pace you're releasing these chapters! :)
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Heh, don't get too used to it, I'm notorious for getting distracted and taking months to update.
Response from myami (Reviewer)
Haha, I don't mind.. as long as you finish it (maybe) before that happens!
Well, he *is* taking the initiative. I don't recall Uncle Severus saying anything about making her dance...
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
True, true...but dancing with the Hero Girl can't be bad for his reputation, eh?
Yea Draco! The boy does have a conscience after all.
I'm glad he started following Severus' orders so quickly, and liked the little bit that he confided in her.
Looking forward to more.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
I think he's beginning to grow one, anyway.
Why is it exactly that authors enjoy cliffhangers so much? UPDATE!!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Why? Because it's better than Crucio!
Response from litfreak81 (Reviewer)
That's true. lol. It's horribly cruel of you to leave the readers hanging.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Eh, it's the only way to be sure y'all will come back for another chapter.
Okay, so this is the start of Draco failing for her..........how on earth did he not see that happening!
So glad for the quick updates.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Mmm, I'm not sure he's falling for her yet, only recognizing that he's been a jerk thus far.
