A Non-HBP, Non-DH, AU DM/HG fanfic.
(Acronyms: The Next Parseltongue.)
Set in a world where HBP and DH never unfolded, this AU plot bunny leapt out and throttled me last night, after perusing some DM/HG "Head Boy and Girl" fics. I really hope to keep it short, and of course all my other fics are screaming for endings, but what's another unfinished project? :) Rated for future chapters.

Someone who really, REALLY ought to be doing something else, but just keeps on writing.
Wondering why my stories take forever? Have a look at My Other Time Devourer: www.willametteartcenter.com I'm both the webmaster and the president of the Friends of the Visual Arts, a 501-C3 nonprofit in Salem, Oregon. We Put The Fun Back In Art.
Having 2 sweet little boys tends to drag things out too.
And what the heck, as long as it's self-pimpage time: If you just can't wait for the next chapter of Fair Ex, you can always go buy my book. It's not HP or fanfic but it's got that Fawkesy snark (in spades) It's here: www.turondo.com Warning: there's a bad word in the title.
Reviews for Looking and Seeing
The look she gave him was hauntingly familiar (hours later he would realize it was the same one Uncle Severus constantly used on Potter).
That must've hurt more than the slap!
Loved it. ^_^ And such a fast update too!

*snort* I imagine it did!
great beginning! and hints of Potter breakdown in the future. Oh I can't wait for more! I think your Draco is spot on.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Thanks! I don't usually write Draco (or at least not Straight!Draco), so this is pretty shaky ground for me. I hope I can do him justice.
Hee. I love that Narcissa slapped him. At least she has some political savvy.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Oh, I think she's got plenty of that. Whether she has a scrap of decency remains to be seen, however.
Hermione's downfall? You mean she ends up a Malfoy? One can only hope.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
We'll see, we'll see. Not sure how I want to wrap this bunny up yet--but I know what'll happen in the next few chapters.
*squees*
I like, I like a lot!
Hope to see more soon. I can't wait to find out how exactly returning to school led to Hermione's 'downfall'. And how long Draco actually sticks with Pansy... (This is a DM/HG after all!)
I remember liking the other fics I read by you too, so I'm looking forward to how this one turns out.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah, well, I'm kinda curious about that myself. I've never tried to write these guys, so I hope it works.
I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!!!!!! UPDATE!!!lol. Please.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Trying, trying...
Response from litfreak81 (Reviewer)
Will you be updating soon?
Finally! Progress!
Looking forward to an update.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
It may be a while--let them smooch for a while so I can get some other fics moving...
aaagh! That was just mean. I can guess what happens next but with those two you just never know. More soon please.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Getting to it, I promise...
I have just read this story straight through. It is great. I have only read maybe one or two HG/DM stories before giving them up as a bad job, cliched drivel. But not yours. Your dialogue is excellent. I love the plot twists. It has very funny moments. I love the gargoyle. I like how your characters are evolving. I have to say when I read that you were considering giving the story up due to lack of interest, I was distressed. I hope you continue. I like the dance they are doing in more ways than one. This is a fun, funny, charming and lovely story. Another F7 success.Cheers, Kat

Awwwwwww....garsh. Thanks!
well, it was about time. Now what???
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, i suppose the next step is for Mr. Slytherin to face up to the disapproving looks of his friends and family...
Well, it's about time! I hope they can work this out for real, actually.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah, I think they need to pace themselves a little.
*looks around* Did you forget to post the other half of this chapter, miss?
Haha, you're too cruel!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
I am! Besides, this was just the first smooch, nothing really juicy happened. I thought they deserved a little privacy.
You can't leave us like this!
Okay, obviously you can.
Wretch.
::pout::
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Ah, but that's the beauty of the imagination.
"strangely familiar Granger + pain" LOL! So... they've made it to a littel snogging... wonder where their relationship will go from here?? Hermione, in those last few sentences, didn't seem mad at Draco for the kiss - but with them two, you never know :)
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, remember, she's been recently indulging in a little Draco fantasy action while jilling off, so he's got every reason to believe he can get away with this.
I love this story! I know you included a comment a few chapters back about not finishing this story, but I, for one, hope you will consider putting more work into it. I'm a definite HG/DM fan, and a big fan of your story.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
:) Thanks--yeah, it seems to have a small fallowing. I hope to finish it, along with all my others, at some point...
Oh you have to finish this! I am so intrigued! You are awesome,Samantha
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
*snerk* Heh, thanks. I'll get to it. Busy writing grants this week, tho...
Oh please don't abandan this story. Just found it today and read the whole thing and am anxiously waiting for a new chapter. Curious about the "relationship" between Harry and Snape's wife. Love the hate/love relationship between Draco and Hermione. I'm also heartbroken for how lonely Hermione is. Look foward to reading a happy ending *hint hint*
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
:) More to come--thanks for reviewing.
Just found your story today....I'm not sure how I missed it before. Wow, you really threw some great curveballs in there; I really liked Snape's wife and hope that we find our more about them. I can't wait to see how Hermione and Draco finally find each other. Thanks for making my night so enjoyable.
Cheers
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Thanks for reviewing!
That's so sad about Severus' wife. Although he probably kept it a secret at first to protect her, and to keep her from being used against him, eight years is a long time to go keeping something like that a secret and without living with one's spouse. Unless she wasn't cursed the whole time... It was good of Draco to ask after her. Will she be making another appearance?
Starts making progress, then he blows it up all on his own. *sigh* I wonder who he just confused the most, himself or Hermione.
About the A/N, I think it worked out just how you planned for it to. I hope you continue this. I really want to see what happens next!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah, I'm not sure why Snape's kept her a such a secret, actually. Maybe a little shy about showing his tender side to the general public (which believes he doesn't have one anyway) and maybe to keep curious people from looking for her. She's obviously very nervous around strangers. I don't know if she'll appear again, but we'll learn a little more about her.
It's almost three weeks later, and Draco's still dwelling on what Hermione said at the Ball. She must've really struck a chord with him. I'm guessing it's of a 'she was right but for some reason (that he can't verbalize yet) he wishes that she hadn't been' variety. Maybe he doesn't like the idea of (seriously) fighting he anymore (if he ever did), or he's starting to really doubt the things his father taught him...
The Climbing (especially without magic) was a surprise. (I'm guessing you're a climber...) I liked the gargoyle trying to help and then getting its feelings hurt.
And the last part of the conversation with Snape will probably be important later on:
"I'll be all right, Uncle Severus. Really. I just... It's not easy with Dad in prison and I'm not really part of Slytherin anymore..." He was referring to the physical House, but as soon as he said it, Draco's breath caught in his throat, for he suddenly understood that this change went beyond the mere location of his bedroom. Snape eyed him thoughtfully and nodded.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Dwelling--that's pretty much how I saw things working for Draco. It's hard to break away from old habits but I think he wants to. And as for my gargoyle--I've kinda fallen for that little bugger and may just have to make her a larger part in the story.
i think you should carry on, at least until something really happens between them. you wouldnt leave the readers hanging like that would you?!im not much of a draco hermione fan but i do really like this story. please continue!and ive never left a review before. so be honoured that i took that first step to try and convince you to keep writting this!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Heh, I leave readers hanging miserably all the time. But thanks for the review--I'm glad you finally caved and left one, we writers thrive on them, you know. Otherwise we get the feeling only 2 or 3 people are reading it anyway, so why bother?
You know, now that you are mentioning not carrying on with this lovely story, I had to go back and reread it just because.
And I just reread the dance scene, and whatever else happens please follow through on the idea of what upset Draco so much at the end. They were on opposite sides. I feel his devastation, but I don't understand it yet.
Um, if I'm not making myself clear in all this babbling, you MUST finish this.
Grrrr.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, I'm getting more convinced that this story has an audience, so I'm more inclined to keep writing.
Response from mia madwyn (Reviewer)
Brava!
Actually, this is a really good story. You've created a rather complicated and interesting plot, but the chemistry between Draco and Hermione needs to solidify. Their relationship needs to become more tangible. Maybe a conversation? A moment in front of the fire where they reveal themselves to one another? Develop an understanding? I keep reading 'cuz I'm waiting for the 'thing' to happen that brings the story into focus. More please!! :)
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
I hear ya, but I think one of the trite cliche DM/HG things I'm trying to avoid is the sudden "ooh, we've hated each other for 6 years but now it's all OK" effect. I've been trying to create a situation where two people with their history might really fall in love. Maybe it's taking too long, I dunno--but I DO know I get bored with a story where it happens too easily.
I only recently discovered this story and so far I am enchanted by it. Please don't stop writing it, please!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Aww... Thanks!
He may be nobody's fuck, but he's sure fucked it up for himself!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Oh, I don't know. Herms likes a good puzzle, and he's certainly been baffling her a lot.
