A Non-HBP, Non-DH, AU DM/HG fanfic.
(Acronyms: The Next Parseltongue.)
Set in a world where HBP and DH never unfolded, this AU plot bunny leapt out and throttled me last night, after perusing some DM/HG "Head Boy and Girl" fics. I really hope to keep it short, and of course all my other fics are screaming for endings, but what's another unfinished project? :) Rated for future chapters.

Someone who really, REALLY ought to be doing something else, but just keeps on writing.
Wondering why my stories take forever? Have a look at My Other Time Devourer: www.willametteartcenter.com I'm both the webmaster and the president of the Friends of the Visual Arts, a 501-C3 nonprofit in Salem, Oregon. We Put The Fun Back In Art.
Having 2 sweet little boys tends to drag things out too.
And what the heck, as long as it's self-pimpage time: If you just can't wait for the next chapter of Fair Ex, you can always go buy my book. It's not HP or fanfic but it's got that Fawkesy snark (in spades) It's here: www.turondo.com Warning: there's a bad word in the title.
Reviews for Looking and Seeing
Is Draco so angry with her because he's afraid of her kindness?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
I think he doesn't understand it. It feels suspicious to him, along the lines of "so what does she expect back from me now that I've accepted this gesture from her?" But when she doesn't seem to demand anything, it boggles his mind even further. I think his anger stems from the fact that wants someone Real in his life, but the expectation is that he'll marry some pureblood Slytherin girl, all of whom are gold-diggers like Pansy (or neurotic like Narcissa). So he's got this carrot dangling right there where he can reach it, but he's been 'trained" or "raised" to believe he shouldn't take it.
Ack, don't you dare stop!! lol I don't leave many reviews, but I am loving this!!!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
*grin* Thanks, that's good to hear.
I hope you do finish. I want to see Draco and Hermione get together and I'm dying to know why Mrs. Snape doesn't like Harry Potter. Please finish. I've been enjoying and reviewing.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Oh, I probably will. But like many of my stories, it may have to go on the back burner while I work on something else for a while.
Well, all last chapter's sympathy just went out the window. I really hope that they get past all of this slightly twisted dancing. I am truly enjoying your take on this.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Thanks. I see Draco as a guy torn between two worlds right now and feeling like he doesn't have his feet solidly in either one of them, so of course he has to dance and lean. But that's what we do--test the waters before making a decision.
Ah, poor Draco. You have made my feel quite sympathetic toward him, since I wanted to smack him at the beginning.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Good! I wanted to smack him too, so I'm getting the message across, obviously! Yay!
Don't even think about quitting this one! I rarely review stories... even the ones I do like!
And I've been pretty good at reviewing almost every chapter... so please? No quitting, alright? :P
Anyway, the last two chapters were awesome, but I had to laugh at the gargoyle's antics. A drama queen, that one.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
I'm SO glad someone liked the gargoyle. I thought it must be a bummer to live all by itself with no one but Trelawney to keep it company--and the one time it gets a visitor in 1000 years, it's Draco being a jerk. Poor little bugger.
oh you make me laugh. lets see the rest
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
:)
i'm enjoying it! plus, you're such a wonderful writer than it seems a shame not to continue if you can.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
It helps to know people are reading it.
Oh PLEASE don't stop writing this! I am really loving the story.
DMHG is a ship that so many people enjoy reading, but not a lot of authors like to write, especially since Draco turned into a total pansy in the final book.
I really love your story arc of Snape and his wife and her curse, and I am dying to know why she hears Harry. I really want you to continue!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
*grin* Thanks! I haven't read DH yet so Draco still has cajones in my little brain. And yeah, I forgot, I suppose I can't just hook Herms and Draco up, I ought to wrap up that side arc with Mrs. Snape, huh?
Well, I don't actually know any of the cliches so I can't say if they were addressed in a new way but I can say that Draco's actions were surprising - he totally gave himself away which was very unexpected. I enjoy this story and I hope you don't give it up, but I understand if you don't feel it has enough interest to keep working on it. I don't tend to review every chapter when I read a fic so, to kind of sum up from previous chapters...I thought the action and pace of the story up to the dance was very good and has kept me interested in what's coming next. I kind of like that Harry and Ron aren't around to get in the way, it's a different twist that is not seen in other DM/HG fics with the inevitable confrontation and all that tends to follow (I was trying to avoid that common theme in a DM/HG fic I'm writing - but I think I'm failing miserabley - and while reading yours, I was thinking what a novel approach that was - nice to see something a little different than the norm.). I didn't really know what to think of Draco climbing the tower - it seems impossible - but I'm wondering if that strange habit will come in to play later on as well? Well, if you choose to continue - looking forward to the next!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
That's funny--I'm a roof climber type myself (or used to be, 20 years and 80 pounds ago). There's a nice feeling of solitude you get on a rooftop, very agreeable for surly moods.
Lovely chapter. I'm actually beginning to feel a little sorry for Draco, he seems so alone.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
That was kinda how I felt for him during HBP, actually.
I love this story with a love that is unholy.
Keep it up. It's wonderful!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
*snerk* Geez, sounds like I need to throw in some slash or necrophilia or something.
Wow, Harry Potter is really coming on as a serious contender...
Well, it's certainly going to be a long difficult journey for Draco Malfoy.. but I don't particularly sympathize with him; after all, this triangle will make for a more interesting read! Hehe :D
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
I think Harry believes he's got a shot at it, but Herms...
Harry doesn't know her as well as he thinks he does if he thinks she'd ever enjoy...events...like that. Inviting her to a Quidditch match for a lark?
Wonder how serious he was being about the Ron cheating thing to decide who got to have her, 'cuz she thinks of them both as brothers so that'd be weird at least on her side.
Does Draco actually have competition here? Hmm...
And his tear, Draco does have feelings! I knew it!
Looking forward to the next.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, I'm with Harry on this one--I mean, WHO wouldn't want to sit around eating turkey and watching Quidditch all day? I think he was just teasing about Ron cheating, although the implication that Ron would be WILLING to cheat in order to get in her pants was probably not just a joke.I think according to Hermione, there's no competition for any of those dweebs, at least at this point.Draco's soft underbelly: SHhh! Don't tell anyone! ;)
Oh my!
What did Harry do to her?!? Was he the caster of the curse-perhaps aiming at Severus?
And Draco seems a bit protective/possessive/territorial about Hermione. Does he really think Harry'd go after her that way? Was he right about it?
Ooo so many questions! At least the next chapter is already posted. I gotta go read that now.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Lessee: I can't reveal what Harry did just yet, sorry. Draco...well, I'm not sure exactly what he feels for Herms, but I think he's telling himself that it's entirely unfair that he lit the fire under Hermione with all that dancing, only to have Harry make his moves. And I think Draco was spot on in assessing what Harry was up to.
Ah, Draco is human. And I still don't know if I like Harry in this story. I'm glad he values Hermione, though.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, he tries not to be, but I think he's weakening in the shadow of all this Gryffindorishness. And as for Harry...I think he's likeable, in a somewhat abhorrent sort of way.
Oh wow. Are we going to find out what Harry did to Mrs. Snape?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Eventually...
Sheepdog's arse... *giggle* what an image! I bet even Harry himself is not entirely sure whether or not he's just joking around with Hermione.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah I started out with "guinea pig's arse" but I already used that image in another fic. Wheekers are the ultimate reference frame for bad hair.
I had to laugh at the idea of Draco swooping around the halls all Snape-like and taking out his frustrations on all the would-be lovers. And it seems odd that Snape had been so restrained in discussing Harry with Hermione, if Harry has in some way harmed his wife. I'm more curious about her story than ever!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Draco the Greasy Git...ooh, la la. Well, as Harry said, it's complicated, and Snape of all people understands the need to suck it up and do what must be done, right?
Fabulous, just read four great chapters and I'm itching for more.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
*hands a backscratcher over*
Wow!
This is great. Um, update soon?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Thanks!
OK, so Mrs. Snape can hear Harry. I think he needs to explain himself. I'm glad Draco is behaving.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yeah, this can't be an insignificant finding. But something tells me he's not going to want to talk about it...
Aww, Snape beaming... must be a terrifying sight. I wonder what her story is - and why Snape can't lift her curse. Upstaged by Potter - again!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Well, it was put on her by a very nasty wizard...
Poor Draco, the worst pain is always that inflicted unintentionally, isn't it?
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Looking and Seeing)
Yup. Ouch.
