Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

Another cliffy! I can't believe you. What now? Will he be able to rescue her, them? DD seems to make up for his cruel puppetiering, but we will see about that. And I wonder about Lucius' commands to Draco to keep Hermione safe. Amazing chap, again. You had me sitting on the edge of my chair for nearly the whole chap, with Severus being under the Imperius.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! When I put Severus under the Imperius, I wasn't thinking clearly about having to write the final battle with him that way. Gah! On the other hand, I couldn't imagine the Dark Lord having that much confidence that things would go his way once the wild card--Hermione--showed up!

I wasn't sure you'd end it this way. Nce battle.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hope I didn't disappoint you. I know some people were hoping he'd stay Dark! Thank you.
Response from timestep (Reviewer)
I was torn - and therefore not disappointed. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he had stayed Dark - but that would almost take a sequel to properly deal with.I'm not sure how Herminone would have dealt with this. Then again, I'd be sad to see Hermione find that her faith in him was misplaced - that is completely devestating. As I said before - I was curious to see what you would have done in either direction!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, since I know I'll not be writing an alternative ending I can tell you that Hermioine's faith in him is absolute. I'm not saying it would have been easy, and it might have taken a sequel to work through it for sure, but her faith in him is so strong I have a feeling she wouldn't have blamed him, and would have known he saw no other way, and then would have set about finding another way herself.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I know its been eons wince I've reviewed, but I just want you to know that......I am stunned beyond all beliefe, but thank you so much for not letting severus go through with what he was going too. You have so much vested in these characters....they live, and breath, and are entirely your own, and are brilliant. I cant wait to read more, I just so hope that we get to see a happy ending. Not a happy paragraph, but a few chapters of it lol.
Cannot wait for more from your story, so brilliant.
Cheers
Sam

Weasley vengeance... awesome! And good Malfoys in the end! :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I had to write the Weasleys the way I see them, which was the one silver lining for having to write a final battle. Thank you!

Oh, my. Oh my oh my. It's all I was hoping for. Hermione's strength shining clear through, Severus' redemption. And the Malfoys, more loyal than I could have imagined! Even if no one really knows about any of it. Secret heroism has always seemed to me the most brave. This is my happy ending, even if the happiness is brief. Just the fact that our couple got to be close again. Somehow I can just imagine them sharing a cell in Azkaban, killing the Dementors with their happiness. It's a silly little idea, but I like it.All the <3s in the world to you, my dear.
Response from AntiPixie (Reviewer)
Oh yeah, and that bit about the Weasleys = perfect. I LOVED it, it was so canon and... well, again, heroic! Someone ought to compose you a march to go with the scene. :P
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You hit on the important things to me--I like to believe that even though this was the prudent thing for Lucius to do, that he also did it out of friendship. I'm not saying he wouldn't have ditched Sev in a New York minute if he thought he had a chance of being the DL's right hand, but once he saw the lay of the land he chose friendship (and of course, that had its own manipulative advantages). As for the Weasleys--yes, I think they would be warriors, far more than they were in DH.
Thank you!

Ah Mia, you are awesome! I know, not much help if you want constructive criticism but I am the fan in fan fiction not a writer.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm just thrilled that you liked it. That in itself is constructive, since I was worried about this chapter. If it worked for you, and you told me, then you gave me your criticism and I am most grateful!

TEASE! Absolute tease, how could you? Ugh, I am dissatisfied with the way this chapter ended, but I am also very happy that they are together again. *Sigh*

One of my betas wanted it to end when she saw Lucius had her. I don't think you would have liked that! Thank you!

I'm surprised that Draco was protecting Hermione, at least as best he could.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
He was under orders from his father, and Malfoys have ways of landing feet first, don't they? (Although I like to think maybe there's more to it than that, and that friendship did mean something after all.) Thanks.

Boy, didn't see that coming. Figured Lucius Malfoy would kill Hermione the first chance he had. Wow, what a chapter. I was worried a bit. Boy, our heroes will still have quite a bit of explaining to do. Great job, really riveting. Can't wait to see the next chapter.

So is Albus finally going to grow a heart? I hope so after all of this our couple deserve love and peace.

Holy mother fucking Hannah. This is brilliant.Every word. Every moment. Every bit of it fits, and flows, and echos. And the angst. Sweet mercy, the beautiful, horrible, gut-wrenchhing angst!I "ew'ed" out loud when I read the part where she killed Bella. Nicely done *nods*I read a story a long time ago where someone uses "reducto" to basically vaporize an enemy, but even though the author was even more descriptive with the gore of it, it wasn't nearly as viceral or as disturbing as yours. In short: Best fanfic death scene. Ever.Brava :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Imagine my surprise and glee when I stumbled across that hex in the Lexicon while looking for something else--after I'd already written the scene and turned her to vapor. I was more than pleased to actually have a canon curse to go with it.
Thank you so much. (hugs!)

I had a feeling Lucius would save his skin, no matter who's side won. lol.Kudos on Draco.I hope Draco doesn't die.I hope Potter gets his head out of his ass.I hope Albus really helped her.I hope the Aurors and the Ministry are also over-thrown.I hope that Severus can help her.I hope she lives.I hope they survive.

I'm glad you liked Draco. And remember, he was operating on Lucius's orders. And in case you didn't notice, her wound was healed. Who do you think did that? Wasn't Draco. (wink)

The Weasley juggernaut-a brilliant redemption of a family who is so often scoffed at.Lucius' motivations dubious at best.A duranged Winky and sexist house elves are a well placed moment of humor before the fray.I hope this ends happily (not to soon mind you) after all this is ff and one of the the reasons I indulge is to escape the tedium and frustration of real life. However happy endings are not the only hallmark of a great love story and some part of me sensed that all was not right at the close of this chapter. I spent a good part of my morning trying to figure out what Severus could do to save Hermione and himself. Then I reminded myself that Mia has astonished us all before with her magic, and whether it turns out tragically or happily it will be good and right.Of course if it ends happily that's easily another hundred chapters or so.

I think anybody who reads CoMC knows I love my Weasleys.
Thank you so much for your faith in my ability to end this the way it needs to be ended.

A terrific battle, in every way, made all the more powerful by seeing it through Severus's eyes. Oh Hermione, poor Hermione... but I have faith in your (and Severus's) skills to make it all better again!~Kribu

When the DL put him under the Imperius Curse I wasn't thinking straight. I didn't think at that time that we would have to live the battle through an Imperiused pov.

Oh my what a chapter! I was on the egde of my seat yelling for Severus to throw of the imperius curse Voldie had put on him. At the end of the day Albus (in cannon) was rigth; Voldemort doesn't know love and doesn't recognice its force. Only, it wasn't Harrys abilitiy to feel love that turned the tide, it was Severus and Hermiones love for eachother who led to Voldemorts downfall. How superior he must have thougth him self to be when thinking that telling Severus that he was his father and holding him under a imperius curse would make Severus do his bidding above the love for Hermione. I was for a while more than worried about what the Malfoys were up to, but whatever motivation, I could forgive them, especially Draco, almost anything for keeping Hermione safe for Severus no matter what. The end of Fenrir was poetry in motion, I am sad that Fred died, but I totally love the unity his family became when revenging him. Did Albus realise in the end just at what level Severus loves and needs Hermione? I hope so, otherwise, please push him down some stairs when you have a chance....I am more than looking forward to read the next chapter!

Thank you for seeing that--it really IS about love, in many ways. I finally accepted that JKR was right about that.
As for the Weasleys, I was very happy to rewrite their roles in the battle. I don't think they were used well in DH. They didn't seem like Gryffindors (until Molly had her moment, but that didn't account for the others).
Thank you so much!

This chapter was truly stunning. It impresses me that you write edge-of-the-seat action just as well as you write love scenes and snappy dialogue. You've got a lot of talent. If you don't already write original fiction with your own characters, then trust me, you really ought to start.Err... after you've finished this, obviously. Until this is complete, you should literally do nothing except write with occasional breaks for meals! *evil cackle*

Wow. Incredible chapter. How will Severus save Hermione? Will her magic survive what she did? What happened to Severus is he truly on the light side or was his temptation too great and his soul is lost?I loved Ron's comment on the Aurors. That seems to be true in real life as well at times.
