Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

BEST AUTHOR, Moste Potente Potions
http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_awards/33422.html
Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

very IN-character, these two. I'm gonna like this! added to faves. gets the bad taste of DH-eppy out of my mind.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Don't even MENTION that DH epilogue. Now I've got to go wash my brain out with bleach. Bleah.
I like how you've caught how complex the situation is; the risk for Snape, Hermione's naivete, moments of humour, moments of lust. Looking forward to the next chapter. :)

Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the update. A very intence chapter! After the first chapter I thougth this fic to be more in the line of romance/humour, chapter 3 and 4 have proven me very wrong in that aspect, but I do hope that you will stear clear of some of the clishe's so often used; For Severus to keep his role as spy, having to offer Hermione up at a DE-revel or two, seemingly enjoying her torture, humiliation etc etc. Hermione being raped/attempted raped by Draco (or Lucius or both) and with Severus putting the blame on her to keep his apperance, a lot of chapters dedicated to describe what kind of torture, betrayal, humiliation, sexual abuse Hermione will have to go through before we reach "the happy end". Though it is obvious to me that it will be dark, I do hope you will find a way, not only for them to work together, but to continue the "new" twist (with Hermione making the proposal) and give us something different than the usual "let us see how much pain we can put Hermione through before we let her forgive and forget all and everything in the seccond to last chapter and have a happy ending" kind of story. I would must deffinitly want a happy ending, and as I said, I have realised now that we won't have a fluffy story, but please, please, there seems to be an competition going on among fanfic authors on how much pain and torture they can inflict on Hermione and still try to make an happy endingn belivable, some stories wallows chapter after chapter in her missery, sometimes makes me wonder if the story is written by someone who hates the Hermione-caracter rather than someone who likes the HG/SS pairing. Your story started out differently, I would so much love for it to continue that way. Not sure how, but I keep my fingers crossed.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh dear, I do worry. While I haven't planned any of the specific things you list, Hermione and Severus are definitely going to suffer. That's one reason I have "angst" listed -- there will be angst. And I fear you won't like that story twist. On the other hand, if it makes you feel any better, my reason for taking the story in the direction it will go has nothing to do with "competition" but is simply that from the beginning the characters said and did things that have repurcussions. When I realized what those repurcussions would be, I decided I had to make the warnings. I'm glad you're liking it so far, and really and truly appreciate the time and effort you put into your comments.
Veeery characteristic of both. Excellently done! And dialogue - oh yes, superb dialogue. I'm crazy for tense dialogue. ;-D
Mysterious...what does he mean about "if only she knew"? I'm sure you mean to tell us. Goody!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you -- I love writing dialogue! Sometimes I fear I shortchange description and such because I'm too involved in dialogue to slow down long enough to do the rest justice. "If only she knew...." Well, of course, all will be revealed at the worst possible time.
That was unexpected, to have McGonagall waiting for them. I'm glad the next chapter is in the queue.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
The next chapter is the chapter I've been waiting for -- wanting to see how you all respond to it. Please let me know!
Interesting story. Looking forward to the next part.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks!
Ooh! What a chapter ending! There's nothing like a drunk Severus to liven things up. I am curious to find out what other machinations are afoot. I love what you have so far. Great job!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I was caught quite off guard by drunk Severus. (Well, Severus is catching me off guard right and left, as far as that goes!)
Ohhh Hermione is going to have her butt chewed again, I can feel the tention building. Wonderful!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Butt-chewing is just the beginning, ahem.
This gets more and more interesting. I do like your take on this so far.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
Oh dear....looks like hard times ahead for Hermione (pun intended). I don't think I'd want to be either Hermione or Severus and have to face Minivera at this time. Minerva's temper seems to have reached it's boiling point. Thanks for the chapter!
Cheers
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Minerva is displeased to say the least!
Oh... How I wish there was more. : c
I'd like to see another fic, revisiting this Snape family. We need more epilogue!
Your writing is a drug. I'm hopelessly addicted. Thank you. : )
Of a piece of his soul returning. And the rest of the world fell away....I can't find a word.

You're a bad influence on me. This chapter was so amazing, so freaking incredible, that I just HAD to reread everything--starting at Chapter 1. I can't even describe... ...this is one of those rare fics that stays with you long after it's been read. The emotion is incredible, and thank God I'm not PMSing, 'cause I'd probably be bawling my eyes out uncontrollably. (*That* would be interesting to explain to the hubby, hee hee.) I seriously can't wait to read more. Your characterizations and writing style (hell, everything)simply rock.Anyway, in order to reread this (freakin' amazing) fic, I may have skived off school today. If you happen to possess any notes on "Volpone" or "Pilgrim's Progress", feel free to send them my way, LOL.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I am such a bad influence, it seems. I have to admit I'm thrilled that you had the desire to read it all again, though. Thank you SO much!

Can I cry now? I've been holding it all in and the non stop action and emotion has caused a build up of tears. I know this is my third time reading, but I can't help feeling just as connected as the first time. Mia, you are a marvel and a brilliant writer!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I am blessed to be part of such a brilliant fandom where we have so many beautiful works to build our understanding of the characters, it makes a fertile soil to work in when writing new tales.

Wow! That was exciting! I'm so glad that Severus finally saw the light and realized that he can't save Hermione if he's with Voldemort. Now off to see if he can save her... I'll anxiously await the next installment!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
There were some who were hoping the Dark side would win, of course. LOL! I'm glad you approve of the direction it took. Thank you.

Yea! Severus did the right thing in the end. Quite the twist for Lucius to give Draco instructions to protect Hermione. I was not expecting that. I thought Lucius was a total weasel that was really lusting after Severus.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, I figured Lucius was pragmatic. Once the Dark Lord revealed that Severus was his son, Lucius saw the handwriting on the wall, and allowed friendship to take the forefront (not without some Slytherin cunning).

I just found this story today and I still have quite a bit of catching up to do.Amazing! I can easily see why you have won so many awards. I couldn't tear my eyes from the screen. This story has been gut whenching, heart warming, humorus, and tear jerking, sometime all at once! Great Job.

OK.I've just stopped crying, and after warning everyone that the computer was off limits until I washed my face, drank some water and came back, here I am to say it was f******** brilliant. If you ever go pro and publish, please let me know. I am still too overwhelmed to say more, but it was the best chapter of the whole story. Wonderful.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Since it was the most difficult chapter of the whole story, I can't begin to tell you how much your words mean to me. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much. I'm thrilled you feel like they have stayed in character, since they've been doing things JKR never intended!

AWESOME! oh my god! it was worth going through 54 chapters of angst just for this... "father"LOL I shouldn't be laughing, but I'm kind of hysterical right now. You rock my socks, seriously, this is like the best idea I've ever seen in a SS fanfic.I would say more but I just have to keep reading....
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you liked it. That was the scariest thing I ever wrote--fearing people would immediately abandon my fic forever!

Wow. Just wow.And in a very good way.I was on the edge the entire time, thinking that Severus really was going to screw over everything Hermione had worked for, he was going to kill his soul (the silver pool was a beautiful touch, btw), he was going to just float on Voldemort's Imperius through the killing blow, and then... YES! I also love how you made Lucius' motives very dubious. Very dubious indeed. Bravo! And now, thank goodness, everyone knows that trying to part Hermione from Severus, or vice versa, is a bad idea. Very. Bad.God, I love this story. It is So. Bloody. Intense, but it is absolutely riveting. I'm looking forward to the next chapter with eager anticipation.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm working on the next chapter, believe me! In the meantime, thank you so much for your wonderful review. And I'm glad you liked the silver. I'm not sure if it was apparent (and it probably wasn't) but it turned silver the moment Hermione arrived and their souls felt one another.

It's been a few days of burning the midnight oil, well into the early hours, with blurry eyes, because I just couldn't tear myself away. I love this story, you deserve all the accolades. Every emotion explored and considered, just brilliant; so much detail. The characterisation is wonderful, the story is beautifully written and so interesting I think my family must have thought I'd been hexed; at the very least a full body bind trapping me in my chair, ensuring I was unable to stop reading. Wonderfu, just wonderful xxxxx
