Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
I don't think I have had the opportunity to leave a review and tell you how much I am enjoying your story. I especially love the background you gave to Hermione. The scenes between her and her parents were a hoot! I love it when a story can come up with little twists that don't stray too far from what we know. Points like this are fun. I look forward to the next chapter, Saturday night and both Hermione and Severus moving closer together even though they say they don't really want to. It's going to be fun. Thanks, JoAnne

Thank you so very much. I'm happy to be writing something that entertains you!
Go, Sev! Draco is an idiot, isn't he? Good chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, but notice who gave Draco the idea. ::whistling::

I'm honestly loving this! :-D
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad!

That was some pretty amazing dialogue!
However: "According to my research, it shouldn’t take that long, anyway, as you’re hardly a boy anymore." Hehe! Isn't that the wrong way round? ;-)
Author's Response: I think you can build a case in either direction. isn't it 18-year-ols boys with the most stamina? LOL
Angel Mischa's response: Hmm... That's true. On the one hand, they can get 'over-excited' shall we say! But, on the other, they do have better fitness for the most part! There goes my neat theory to classify the male population! LOL
sweet, I love all the tention and issues popping up.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks for reading and reviewing. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Nice chapter, and a definite turn into darker territory.
I have the feeling Snape might find Hermione's lists rather funny. I really like your Hermione, she's a believable mix of mature and immature - well-meaning but quite naive.
Snape's flashback was pretty disturbing. It looks like he might have some issues to work through, sexually. I do hope he doesn't just go through the motions coldly and mechanically with Hermione - it would be so damaging to both.
And the next chapter is in queue already! Looking forward to more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, mess with Snape and he will get dark on you, for sure.
I'm glad you like Hermione. Everybody's take on her is a little different, and she jumped into this story in the most impertinent and impetuous manner, and I'm just along for the ride, it seems.
The next several chapters are written and ready to be polished, so hopefully you'll have a steady stream of new ones for awhile!
Thank you for continuing to follow the story.
I do believe that this is the first story I've ever read that has Hermione lying about her parents being dentists. I love it! And Hermione negotiating around her father was hysterical. Please update soon, I'll be keeping an eye out for more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you for all your comments. And I will be updating soon and often. Also, my more recent chapters are getting longer when I post.
Liked Luna's comments ... am hoping that she'll play a part in the story.
Also really liked that Snape had compassion for Ron and Hermione's casual dismissal of him.
This story is really great - I can't wait to see new chapters!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Post DH, I don't see how he could NOT have at least a twinge of compassion.
I don't think I'm every going to stop laughing at the thought of Snape thinking lack of pubes made her more of a school girl before deciding that her breasts kept her from being one. Just like a man. I'm dying to see where this is going.
Liked that Snape took his tea sweet and light - love it when people buck the trend of him totally eschewing sweets - a man has to have his vices!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Light and sweet. Oh, yeah!
I'm still laughing over Snape's method of "doing the laundry". And wow, it is really psychotic, but it certainly would be cathartic also :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm all for it -- everything but the sheets. I don't think I could sleep on sandpaper!
"Well…" She hid her flaming cheeks behind Snape’s arm, longing to sink her teeth into it.
"Even old gits like him?"
Last chapter your Severus delighted me, this one Hermione does. Love the sarcastic inner monologue ...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And your comments are delighting me. Thank you -- again!
This is absolutely delicious. Hermione and Snape are both completely in character (which is quite hard to do in a MLC!); and I'm dying for more. I'm glad that I didn't have time to read this until you wrote 9 chapters - I don't think 1 at a time is going to be enough!
Your voice reminds me of Bloodcult of Freud, who is absolutely one of my favorites!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I grovel at your feet! I love Bloodcult of Freud! I am not worthy -- but I will soak up your words, anyway!
"I see. My lack of scruples is yet another jot in the ‘for’ column. Fascinating."
"Your concern for their tender feelings is almost Hufflepuffian in its depth."
Love the snark - you seem to have the gift of writing great Severus. And I really liked that you showed him caring what others thought - I've always thought that underneath it all Snape would be very personally insecure.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! The only reason to develop such strong defenses is to protect, isn't it?
Great chapter. I LOVE it. Baron and Lady Granger. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Now we know where she gets that bossy attitude from.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hoped people would buy into it. I sure believe it!
OH. Wow wow wow. What a hard start to recover from. The wedding scene was beautiful, loved what you did the the RoR. Though I'm a little unclear as to how it was pulling Muggles into things ...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Aha! Yes, it DID pull Muggles into things, which will later become significant!
Oh my God MORE!!!!! This ship has always been so much more believable than any in the books. And I love how you incorporate scariness and sexiness and humor! What a fantastic plot!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you're liking it!
Wow, the Grangers--what a shocker! I really loved that little interaction and characterization. Very original. Fantastic writing!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
to smooth the way backward !!! how original! i love that. and loved the rest even more. They aren't dentists? how cool! I love it! Poor Severus is in over his head, and has no idea.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! (Hey, there's no way to get married in Winchester Cathedral -- or any cathedral for that matter) without being from the right family, perhaps an active member, AND all sorts of redta pe/advance planning and probably pre-marital meetings/counseling kinds of things. I had to use magic to pull it off!)
You did a lovely job of showing how much McGonagall cares for Severus - thank God someone is looking out for him! I also liked the imagery in this chapter - has me clearly seeing the scenes playing out and enjoying them greatly.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much!
ooo!!! Very fun!!! I can't wait until the next chapter!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks!
Response from MaevePotter (Reviewer)
and the next chapter will be when....? ;)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Probably around Monday? It all depends on when I get it polished and how long it sits in the queue!
Response from MaevePotter (Reviewer)
yay :) If you need any help "polishing" you know who to ask hehe. My reviews may be pitifully short, but I am a hawk for mistakes and bad characterization/ plot holes. I did get a perfect score on the ACT's in reading afterall.. lol.
Interesting take on Hermione. She could give Draco a real run for his money, couldn't she?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm sure she could!
What a whirlwind of a chapter! I love that Hermione's parents are of some sort of lineage in the Muggle world. Sort of offsets the whole HBP thing with Severus. Excellent chapter!
As always, I really look forward to reading more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much!
I absolutely love this story! I'm a sucker for MLC fics, and this is fast becoming my favorite. I love the humor you've woven into the story, and your characterizations are believable and entertaining. Your Hermoine is especially well written - I've read many good Snapes, but Hermoine is hard to do well, especially in a MLC, where she is so often weak. Yours has good sense, humor, and maturity. Well done! I can't wait for the next update!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks -- I'm so glad you like Hermione! Thanks for the kind words and feedback!
Oh, I loved Hermione's mother! And her assumptions why she had married Snape!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks! Her mother is no dummy.
Really liked this chapter. First, the humor was great! And secondly, and the reason I think this one stood out to me, I really liked seeing Snape interact with his students. It was something we never got to see in canon - Snape the Head of House - and I think you portrayed him very well by still keeping him in character, and yet showing that even a snarky, student hating, and seemingly unapproachable professor could still be an asset to his house and guide his students properly when he needed to fill that roll.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks! The more fanfic I read, the more I realize was left out of canon. I love seeing all the variables!
