Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
So powerful! I love how she did what he said - almost unto the death! And Severus' instinct to preserve and protect her was simply fabulous. And his relief ... just priceless. Lovely chapter, Mia.

I love me some protective Snape. Yum.

What a delightful interlude for our couple! I could quite easily fall for such a charming Snape ...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Ah, thank you. They needed that. Heck, I needed that.

She laid her head on his shoulder and was assaulted by the smell of his time with the Dark Lord— And still would rather be there in his arms than any other place on earth.
Lovely, that. And, of course, I adored how she ripped up at him. PRICELESS.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I felt between repairing her injury and suffering the indignity of being covered with her menstrual blood, he was forced to a degree of intimacy that he'd never had with anybody in his life. (I don't see him as a ladies' man with a series of lovers and, one would assume, experience with female troubles.)

Very curious, now, about the woman in the graveyard. Loved the cuddling, and how his hand on her abdomen helps with her cramps - my husband used to do that for me, long, long ago. And I really loved the kiss - but now we're off to Voldemort again.
Sigh.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Ah yes, the woman in the graveyard. She will come back....

Wow, you're really making him pay for his brutality, even if he had no choice in the matter. Actually, I think it's a character-building experience for him.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I can't tell you how much I loved this chapter. And yes, he had to pay for it, but I'm not certain I consider it brutality. But he did, and that's what counts.

Good GRIEF, Mia! What the hell have you done to her now?
Well, at least he was trying to do something decent, even if he was completely HELLACIOUS to her on top of the Astronomy Tower. He's keeps intending to be cruel and she keeps on finding him ... delicious.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
LOL! Yes, he TRIES to be cruel. Well, sometimes he doesn't even try. Snerk. He just manages to do and say the worst things.

Oh, poor girl! Trying so hard - wanting so badly to please him - and SUCCEEDING - having him insult her that way!
Poor Girl.
Of course, he was angry and was planning to be quick and not make her endure anything - this way, it will be harder for him to even try, because he won't be able to forget how that felt.
*is smug on Hermione's behalf*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I could see why he thought what he did. I mean, if she'd been a Slytherin girl! But, ooops!

Well, that was instructive for Severus, I will admit - but, of course, I'm not at all happy with his final conclusion. Harry, Ron, & Ginny were still horrible to Hermione - it's painful to see them reject her like that. Onward!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
At the time I started this, it seemed like most MLCs involved friends and faculty gathering around her to support her, and somehow I ended up leaving her with nobody.
It did result in a stronger connection to Severus, though I'm not sure if that was my intention. (I slay me, acting like any of this was planned!)

Oh wow - this chapter answered some of my questions, but put more where they were. This story is so interesting... I cannot wait to see what you are going to do for the rest of it and the ending - I am expecting it will be incredible. Cannot wait for Chp 40 - Love it
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Again, thank you. And Chapter 40 is in the queue!
Severus - so full of self-loathing and guilt. Hermione was his angel in this one - in only her way of course - she is not perfect after all. This story is trully fascinating and I cannot wait to see where all it goes.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. I can't tell you how much your reviews make my day!
Oh double crap - I did not like the ending in this one - it is so scary and dark because I do not know how much of the conversation with the Dark Lord affected him - Love? How much what he said was a lie and how much was real. I hated this chapter but loved it in the sense that it was wonderfully written and a great plot twister...you know what I mean
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I do know what you mean. It's a good thing the Dark Lord can't read him as well as she can.
Well - I do not think Severus knows what he feels at this point - it is like he is on an emotional rollcoaster and trying desperately to attribute his feelings to anything he can other than what they are. The summons - the results of what the Dark Lord saw - I have my fingers crossed for Severus for the next chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, yes, he's on a roller coaster, all right. And so dizzy, he can't tell up from down.
Possibly take her to a Revel - oh crap- I hope that can be avoided... Lucius is an evil one in this fic... cannot wait to see what the Dark Lord decides next since he was probably watching the Severus/Lucius conversation thru a charmed mirror.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, Lucius is not the silver-tongued charmer in this fic, at least, not in a good way.
Intense passion scene but they are both so conflicted by what has happen, what they have both said and what is too come. Great twist in the story and cannot wait to see where you take it.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. It seems that no matter what else happens to them and between them, they manage to find comfort with each other in bed.
Oh what can all this mean for the couple - cannot wait to see what this turn shapes the story. I feel so sorry for Hermione and I loved the last line where Albus says that he saw her heartbreak. This chapter left me stumped - whether it will get better or go all down hill after this - onto the next chapter
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes,
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
--Albus has been a jerk, but he's simply very focused on being a general in a war. But I don't think he's bad, and this was an opportunity for him to prove it.
Incredible chapter. Keep up the super work!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
Oh, God, LOVED the little mixup between the cat and her hair and his tongue - that was PRICELESS! And now we know why it was so important for DRACO not to marry Hermione - because Severus didn't want him to be forced to take the Dark Mark.
But Draco had better watch himself - Severus is not definitely not going to share his wife.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I liked the irony that he didn't marry her to save HER, but to save Draco. Smirk.
Do I need to tell you this is brilliant? Having the Grangers ARISTOCRACY, rather than DENTISTS? Having Hermione's mum be such a knowing old bitch? Having Severus immediately range himself on her side, as if she were one of his Slytherins - upon whom one can rely for all of one's life! And, of course, divine UST.MUCH better to leave reviews here :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, thank you so much!!! I just woke up to find your wonderful reviews and will be replying to ALL of them, but it's easier to reply, here, too, since at least here you know which chapter was reviewed. (I can tell on your reviews, anyway, because they're specific enough.)
Thank you. Your reviews are making me squeeee! And making me feel better as I struggle with the current plot issues. Sigh!
They have such a complicted life and complicated relationship. I feel sorry for them.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It's very grueling, isn't it?
They finally had the night - she fought against it at first because she does not think herself in that manner but he slowly brought it out of her. The vows section - oh no - she is now in trouble again- LOL
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, trouble seems to just linger around them looking for ways to get in, doesn't it?
Even when they are about to get to a romantic night - Severus is conflicted and asking questions and almost turning it into a mood killer. He wants her but does not want to want her... poor guy
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
His questions have purpose, though.
oh yeah - I thought we he mentioned brewing on Friday that they would be brewing. I loved it when he told her she was the cauldron - totally sexy
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And now you probably have a pretty good idea what "potion" they'll be brewing.
I loved that she apparated to the Twins - good call and especially with her breaking things. Severus is falling more but still not in love - compassion, admiration, lust and maybe more
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, the twins are quite the package. They take delight in her destruction, don't question her situation, and are more than eager to leap into the fray to help her. In fact, I think perhaps this scene fulfills Sev's suggestion that if she emits sparks from all her orifices, they'll be able to pay enough attention to protect her. (LOL -- I just remembered that.)
Narcissa and Lucius are twisted - poor Hermione - it was an accurate description when you said tea with a nest of vipers. Crap - Lucius is going to escort her back to Hogwarts - this cannot be good
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
What would a fic like this be without some Malfoy malfeasance? LOL!
Wow - the scenes with training with Hooch were indredible. Not only is she the brighest witch of her age but very powerful indeed. I loved the banter between Hooch and Hermione - it was a wonder that Hermione's hair was not sparking magic because she was so pissed
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I'm loving Hooch and how she and Hermione connect in an odd way!
