Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
I would yell at you if I could. . . or wanted to. That ending was positively maddening, but I am so overwhelmingly happy with the whole chapter that I don't want to. Actually, I want to yell at you and kiss you and tell you to submit the next chapter faster and hug you at the same time.
It was awesome! But hurry with the next one!

LOL! Well, if I see you coming I won't know whether to hide or open my arms!
Good next chapter - I cannot wait to see where you take them and how she will do her independent study. I hope in the end the Severus comes to not think of it as romantic foolishness but love.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I wonder if he can admit it out loud. LOL!
I am not sure why but I thinking smoking and Severus really go together.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It's very politically incorrect but I agree with you.
Oh, I'm the one drunk now... after such a long time away from this story (real life, blargh), I read at least 5 chapters in a row and my head huuuuurts! But it is a good hurt, you know? Because it was all worth it. My word, you twist us up and down, right and left, don't you? One moment, they are so good together, so right, so...peaceful, and next they are at each other's throats. Wonderful!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I hope real life gives you a chance to breathe, now!
Oh no! After all they've come through together, Hermione isn't about to do a bunk now. I hope.
It seems I've caught up with you. Time to start nagging for more updates. Consider yourself nagged. ;)

The twins are so lucky Sev didn't hex their bollocks off! That was a great chapter!

Thanks! The twins are nothing if not confident!

Nothing gets past Hermione. I'm starting to wonder if the sacrement issue isn't just a storm in a teacup. I'll ponder as I read on...

LOL! Hermione would be the most popular girl in Hogwarts, if only the guys knew what the bookworm was capable of doing!

The dramatic tension is overwhelming! This is an amazing fic. So much to process. It's brilliant!

Only Hermione would go to school with her own whiteboard!

Where can I acquire a Severus alarm clock? Although I suspect I'd always be late for work...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
That's where a time-turner would definitely come in handy.

"But who was jumping forward to protect my Slytherins? [...] I married you to save Draco."
You know, I read this chapter just before I went to bed. And these two lines kept repeating in my head over and over even after I woke up. And as I drive to work, I still can't think of anything else but these lines.
I've read a lot of MLC fics, that sometimes as good as the author can get, they can't escape from repeating what others had written. Minerva getting angry, done. Albus decided Severus the only one who can save her, done. Ron and Harry refuse to accept, done. And many others. But I've never come across one that had Severus' intention to save his Slytherin *above* all else. Usually, they come as a by-product, for lack of better term, of saving Hermione from DE's cluthes.
Your fic continues to surprise me. Minerva, for once, was more worried of the extra burden they put on Severus' shoulder than Hermione married to the 'greasy git', Albus was being wary and suspicious of the turn of event (and I really like he can falsely 'twinkle', cause honestly the old man was not a bloody star!!), Ron, Harry and Ginny are still not talking to her, Voldemort sounds more human than a Crucio-maniac phycopath, and I still have several chapters to go...
Give yourself a pat in the back for originality!
Wasn't it you who posted in WIKTT group asking whether it's okay to upload an old challenge - MLC after all these years? If yes, I'm so glad people convince you to carry on. If no, well, I'm still glad you didn't hesitate to do it.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yep, I'm the one. I had just started reading fanfic and fell in love with the MLC and the angst-fest it could inspire (along with the comedic potential) and was worried that I'd already missed the boat!
I know a lot of people refuse to read MLCs because they're tired of them, so I'm glad there are still people willing to give them a shot!
Response from zyra (Reviewer)
I have to (shamefully) admit that I'm one of those who's getting tired of all these MLCs fic, when things kept repeating itself, you'd feel that, you know... but you drag me right back in with this one!
I've finally finished reading all the chapters. I'm slow, I know, but I'd rather read slowly and get absorb into the story than simply passing through. But that being said, I hope a new chapter is on the way soon! :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Nothing shameful to admit. I'f I'd been reading them since pre-HPB I might find them all old hat, too! The next chapter is in the queue!
Response from zyra (Reviewer)
Not only that, MLC sort of turn into AU since HBP verified that Severus was half-blood instead.
In queue?! SQUEE!!! :D
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
People have found other ways to make the MLC work. There's one long fic on fanfiction.net--The Apprentice and the Necromancer--that found a new twist on the Marriage Law; it's post-DH and Hermione marries Snape to save him from Azkaban.
Response from zyra (Reviewer)
I am so behind with SS/HG fandom. And with the exchange ended recently, there's a full blast of new fics to be indulge in. That one sounds familiar, The Apprentice and the Necromancer... I'll go check it out later. Thanks.
Hey, I'm adding your name in my LJ! :)

I bow to your magnificent metaphorical ability. I could never in a thousand years thought that 'cauldron' equals to lemons... :P 'Sweetly', yes. 'Brewing', yes, but cauldron?!!
Let it be said that Potions master is indeed a Sex!God... *snicker*
Good one. Please, surprise me more often. I love it.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, to me the comparison was so obvious I kept searching through other fics, expecting to discover that my brewing/cauldron image was a huge cliche in the genre!
Response from zyra (Reviewer)
Really?! Well, I've never come across one... the thing is I sort of have this weird habit of reading through the story index and taking guesses on which chapter has lemons. Especially when the author wouldn't let you know in the chapter summary but usually I'm correct. So, I thought 'sweetly' and 'brewing' might be them. Imagine my surprise when they were in 'cauldron' and 'potion'!Predictible is boring, so surprises cheers me up! :)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Okay, I'll admit that the chapter titles don't sound lemony. LOL!

Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! And yes, there are power plays going on here.
Again, I could not resist in reviewing...
I have to say that I simply adore your Voldemort - in the most absurd and wrong way, of course. There can be many ways of how people write him. He can be a ruthless leader, he can be a dictator, he can be a fearless leader, he can keep on Crucio-ing each and every follower that he had... or he can be like what you wrote him. Someone who would use his followers' desire to suit his need. I personally think this is more realistic than all of the other I mentioned. I mean, you think he could go far if he keep on Crucio-ing his followers *because* he can? I hardly think so. There aren't many fanfics that had him in this manner. Aside from you, I've only read another 2 like this - and they are my absolute favourite among favourites. No doubt, this type of Voldemort will leave me having nightmares longer than all of the other types.
"...the most effective bruises don't show", indeed.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks. In some ways I'm lucky that I'm coming so late to the game in fanfic, because I've read so many different Voldemort's and it inspired me to try and find a different way to write him. And as soon as I started writing him, he took on a life of his own.
Response from zyra (Reviewer)
Doesn't it feel, I dunno... creepy when a character you wrote took on a life on its own like that? I thought if it was me, I'd be jumpy of my own shadow. Maybe I'm such a faint-hearted person... :P
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
If you knew how these characters lived and breathed in writers' hearts and minds--you'd lock us all up!
Noooooooo! Of course she'll come back he just has to convince her is all.
Sorry I haven't reveiwed in an age but real life annoyingly got in the way. Your writing is still magical and I can't get enough of it. Keep updating, I live for this story.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you -- I read your review as soon as it was posted but I'm just now catching up on responding to them. I hope to get another chapter posted asap!
How is it that you are able to write a chapter with not more than 2000 words but contain no less significant that the all other longer chapters?
This is another one powerful chapter. One where I couldn't resist in reviewing.
Lies, and you're right... she has to control her anger. She knew they were lies anyway, if she react to them, people might assume they're the truth.
Oh, my head is spinning.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I wonder if I was aware of the short chapter length when I posted that. Probably, but I clearly posted it anyway. I guess I just felt it was a complete thought, more or less. I'm glad it worked for you!
Ooh, sweet lemons! And drama! Yay! This is such a beautiful, complex, angst ridden fic! I love it!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
Hello? What's going on here then. Curiouser and curiouser.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, I know that by now, YOU know what was going on there. Ahem.
Hermione has never failed a test yet, but is passing Voldy's test really a good thing?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It's hard to say what's good and bad with Voldy, but I can probably feel safe in saying that failing his test would be fatal
Just came back from chapter 43 at ff.net to leave you this review. I simply love and adore the way you use "horrid" as an endearment. It is such a perfect Snape endearment. It suits him very well, and it beautifully portrays his romantic side in such a non-romantic way it fits great.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks so much! (And don't let him hear you say he's got a romantic side. It would totally enrage him! LOL!)
Response from nata (Reviewer)
I wouldn't dream of it! It's just information for us, the girls. Thanks for writing such an enticing story.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you for following me from site to site!
She did that to Harry?! Wow.
No wonder Dumbledore said she'd die for him.
Is it possible that she's unable to control her magic somehow? Why now? Why after she's married to Severus? Is it why this fic is title 'Care of Magical Creature'? And what's the deal with their kiss? It seemed so much more than what it was.
I wonder what happens now that she used magic when she's not supposed to (but I don't have to wonder long now, do I? The answer is in next chapter! Mwahaha!).
:)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You are asking ALL the right questions!
Oh my! That was interesting! I could read this all day, but sadly a PC is not as portable as a copy of DH, so I shall have to leave for a while. (Bloody housework!) Still, I have the consolation that the longer it takes me to catch up to your latest update, the longer it will be before you keep me hanging on like all the other WIPs I'm following. I'm completely hooked now. I'm here until the end. Keep up the good work!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I admire you for your dedication to housework!
I agree completely with the assessment of thongs. They are the work of Satan. However, this fic is the work of a genius. I'm loving it!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you, thank you!
