Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
Delightful chapter!Well, I may be pessimistic but I don't think this is going to have a "happy ending". I don't think Hermione will be able to see past his transgressions. He may be doing this for her but that doesn't mean she will accept it graciously. Good intentions are never enough. How could she accept something that goes against her own morals? The morals she thought Severus had and fought for! yes, she's deeply in love and she's loyal to the core. You can see her trust in his allegiance perfectly. You can see she would die for him if necessary! Nevertheless, I think she grew to love the man she admired for his sacrifices, for the double life he led in order to have some hope for a favorable outcome. The tormented man she always thought gave everything for a better world! How terribly dissapointed she would be to find out that such man, well, didn't exist or, at least, had convictions too weak as to literally sell his soul to the devil, no matter his reasons. That is what would change everything, I think. Well, it would for the Hermione I have in my head. I don't know what her reaction will be, if she will deny her own convictions in order to be with the man she loves (a point that is particularly debatable for me) or if, in the end, she will sacrifice herself so the so called Light would win. With an imperiused Severus, Voldemort has the perfect weapon so that calls for desperate measures! So many possible outcomes! I'm sure you'll be able to make this realistic as you have been able to do 'till now. I will not be sorry if I don't see a traditional rose colored happy ending (Just in case, I'm not againt them, I actually like them very much in certain scenarios). I think I would prefer it that way! But, as I said, everything is in your hands! Congratulations again on such a great story!!!I will be here to review to next chapter.Regards!

Oh, I'm sure you'll be able to fulfill my expectations! You are a great writer. You chapters have never dissapointed me.Good luck with the next chapter! Have you made any progress so far?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It's already longer than this one, and I have three more scenes to write. When I saw how long it was getting and how much was left I realized I didn't want to leave y'all hanging any longer so cut it in two and posted this part. But I don't expect to split the next chapter, even though it's long. It all belongs together, whereas this one felt right to break here.

I can only wait anxiously for the next installment! I've been away from this fandom but your story always brings me back with renewed force!I happen to enjoy Jane Eyre's fan fiction too. I was telling a friend the other day that a writer I like (you) would write a terrific Rochester! I have that feeling. Are you familiar with Jane Eyre?Well, three scenes left and we can have it. I hope the queue is not too long!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I didn't respond well to Jane Eyre or to Wuthering Heights. I love Jane Austen, though. I wonder if my year's foray into SS/HG would have me more in tune with Eyre and Wuthers. It's something to think about.
Response from MidniteOil (Reviewer)
At first I didn't respond well to the Bronte's works either. I found them too gothic for my taste. I think that could have been the criticism Austen would have for their works. Actually, Northanger Abbey was written to make fun of the gothic style.Well, I don't agree with Austen anymore. While I like her works very much (my favorite book is Persuasion), I think I agree when Bronte said that Austen's book lacked warmth or enthusiasm, anything energetic, poignant, heartfelt...I adore her romances but I think that even if she did a good job of making them human, her characters could be easily divided between "good" and "bad". In my opinion, Bronte is a different story. Rochester and Heathcliff are good examples of the lenghts a person can go for love or any strong emotion. It's difficult to read antiheroes so well depicted as those! Do not mistake my meaning, I still love to read or see a Mr. Darcy saying "you have bewitched me, body and soul" and I feel incredibly moved when I read Captain Wentworth's letter to Anne Elliot; and who can't help to love Colonel Brandon? But these past years I have developed a taste for the Bronte sisters' work. I think their writing portrays people more "human". Besides, their endings are not always rose colored so that makes them more realistic! By this time I think you can already tell that I absolutely adore Edward Rochester... there's another bastard who completely bewitched me!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I should give him another chance, I think. Thanks for the prod.

Wow. Your work continually gains power and momentum. I cannot believe the eve of battle is upon them. I'm not sure who I want to win this war...Mia-you are incredibly gifted. May you always have a pen in your hand and parchment enough to write your ideas upon...~

Curiouser and curiouser... seriously, Mia, you're gonna kill me here. >< Anyhow, I figured I'd throw in my two cents and say that at this point, Hermione is so much stronger than him. He has every advantage, but she's so damn strong. It's inspiring! I'm already painting pictures in my head, imagining the outcome... but of course, I'll try to stop myself and leave it in your capable hands, Madam. ::slurp!::
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You saying that is kind of... nice. I remember back in the very early chapters a year or so ago being told in a few reviews that she was weak. I never saw her as weak, but took a long, hard look at what I'd written to see where I'd gone wrong. I decided I hadn't really gone wrong, that the story wasn't about where she started but where she finished, and how she gets there, and so to have you make this particular comment is so gratifying. Thank you! Now. Get back to work and write my fic.
Response from AntiPixie (Reviewer)
Sorry, sorry! My muse is really, really flighty... and only really digs villains. So I was watching this anime, Hellsing, and the main character, Alucard, happened to really whet her whistle, and she made me write 20 pages of a new story in a few days. >< I'm sorry I'm sorry! I'll get right back on your story, Mistress!

Thank you! Short of an act of God (and I'm truly not trying to tempt that) I should have the next chapter up much faster than they've been, of late. So maybe your refresh key won't get so much work. Or you could bookmark or favorite this story and get notified by email (if you hadn't already).Thank you SO much for your reviews!
Response from Gemxk2 (Reviewer)
I do have it favourited, and bookmarked! Unfortunatly, due to recent hacker problems, I have no email to check. Stupid Microsoft wont unbarr it. sigh. Refresh will have to do!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!First, I feel compelled to mention that I had a dozen unopened reviews for my latest chapter and this notification in my mail box. I opened this first, rushing to read. I did the same thing to my readers at the end of the chapter before the Battle of Malfoy Manor. Now, I know why I got Howlers.Where did Bella go?Way to go Hermione! Dumbledore has deserved that rant for a long time. Too bad she left the gun at The Grange.Shall wait impatiently for battle chapter.Staring at screen. Tapping fingers on desk while waiting.Still staring. No pressure here.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I stopped reading Looking for Magic right before the Final Battle. I've had this huge thing hanging over my head, a swinging scythe, and just couldn't read any other battles. LFM is like a carrot on a stick, reminding me of good things out there to read once I get the next chapter finished. Thank you for that.Thank you for everything!

Great chapter, I'm anxious to see how this turns out for everyone-- although I don't want the story to be over. I suspect that I'll be in withdrawal when this story and a couple of others are finished.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm going to need some sort of intervention when this story ends. Gah!But I can't think about that right now. Right now I'm like you, anxious, and thank you for sharing the ride.

Well... all I can hope is that when Severus sees Hermione he will break this spell. Though right now that seems as unlikey as her forgiveness for his 'sins'.It seems a downward spiral and yet I still find myself glued to the screen, hoping beyond hope for our couple to come through this. I love the emotion, but still I can't until we can finally crawl and scratch our way back to the surface of this abyss and hopefully into light.Glad that next chapter is well on its way. :)

Frankly flailing with anxiety here over the Imperius, and Bella, etc - but holding on to this line:And as she dived back into his Floo, she felt a tiny tingle in her fingertips and realised—this was the day in which she would find him, and after this day, they would never be parted again

She has no magic. She has no gun.She has almost no strength left. All she does have, is their love. Will it be enough to free Severus, and thus her, and thus all of them?I sense that you wouldn't leave them, or us, in a nightmare world---not after all they've been through. But, oh, please---please hurry with the next.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! You are so mean. Well, at least Bella got what she deserved, but a bit to the center would have been better. Ah, well. That's what you get for studying magic and religion and not somehting useful like marksmanship. Well, Hermione couldn't be good at everything, now, could she? *sigh*But seriously! A month! And...and....please!? More! Please tell me Dumbledore is going to get his face rubbed in his mistake. When will these people learn? When it comes down to a choice between "loyalty to the cause" and the woman Severus loves, he will always choose the woman he loves. And Albus needs to have that fact rubbed into his manipulative, bearded face.

Never mind Hermione killing Bellatrix... you might just kill me if you keep writing like this! Seriously, the tension can't be good for my heart, LOL!This story has been consistently excellent from day one, but I'm starting to think that each chapter is better than the last! It's a brilliant piece of work. The quality of your writing far exceeds that of most fanfic.
