Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

Why can't you leave a response to a response at OWL? That's why I love TPP (despite the comma Nazis). "That about sums it up" ? Excuse me? You have some spanin to do Lucy!

Of course you can. Oh, was that YOU? Good grief, I didn't recognize your name there, my multiple-personality-freaky-friend!snapeaddiction's response: Be that as it may. :::waving freak flag:::You didn't answer my question missy.snapeaddiction's response: Ok. I realise I didn't actually ask a question. But, you said - when I asked before - that I was right, he did give her his magic. Magic and sperm are NOT the same thing. I'm glad Lucius' word was trustful. For a moment I feared that if he found her he would do something horrible to her.
I know that doesn't mean she's safe now. On the contrary if severus can't manage to save her both of them are lost. So I will pray very hard all Gods and YOU especially to make them a happy future (alive and NOT in jail please) because after what they'd been through, they just fucking deserve it (sorry for the harsh language).
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Severus would approve of your language and of your sentiment. In fact, he's muttering some pretty harsh words in my ears right now!Thank you!

I'm so glad Hermione put Dumbledore right in his place. And he's lucky she didn't have her wand or her magic because he would have been seriously injured considering Hermione's state at the moment.
Now I can only hope that Severus will regain his senses soon enough and won't be distracted by Her presence on the battlefield.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Again, I can't thank you enough for reviewing and letting me know what you think about the chapter. Yes, if Hermione had her own magic right now, he'd be in a heap of trouble!

OMG I'm so ashamed to not have read this before. I knew I was making a huge mistake. You are the queen of drama. Te only thing that make me feel better is that I have two more chapters to go before I'll be frustrated again. And if I'm lucky maybe you'll post another before I'm finished catching up. *hope fervently*

It amazes and touches me that you have read this so many times. To have someone take the time to read it once is a gift. To have someone want to read it more than once is just--well, amazing, and an honour!Thank you so very much!
fucking hell she is pregnant.he gave her his magic in a different way then the last time!!! indeed!!you are so full of wonders.and ideas beyond imagination.she is alive. and he has his sarcasm back. and his wife. and his child. "thats what houselfes are for". I laughed out loud at this one. pure relieve from all the tension and suspense you held before us.Hermione is doing really well.they definitely have to write their story down. because now has happened what Hermione had anticipated. oh no, they don't have to write the story. you did.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh thank you, thank you! You know, I lived for the day when the angst would fall away and they would be themselves again, him sarcastic and snarky and her in his face. Now I'm finishing the story and look forward to your reactions when it is finally posted.Thank you.

LOL! Thank you for making me laugh this morning!
this chaper lasted a lifetime.breathtaking and despair dripping out of every pore of poor old Severus. His potions failed, his care and caress failed. he even went to the cathedral. I'm astonished.did it do any good? I couln't read it out. and then the poison and the darkness. hm. fascinationg. what made her come back from her coma?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You asked the question, and by now you know the answer of what brought her back....Again, thank you for your beautiful responses.
oh my!! this battle description was very vivid.Bringing in the houselfs to retrieve the dead bodies and getting hermione on the battle field. great.the battle has started and Hermione is wandless and without magic. No clearer, more ironic, painful picture of vulnerability could have been drawn.Did Malfoy order Draco to kill Hermione or to safe Hermione? Think it must have been the first, he just said the last to Harry to look like one of the good side. What did Bella say: "Very Malfoy" What did the curse Confringo do again? this poor girl really fought with all her heart and all her might. This repetitiously "he needs me" feels like an incantation that kept her going, kept her alife. most brilliant was the look inside Snape and what was going on withim hin. The battle inside him. And finally he could see and he could understand. took him a while I dare say. But at the right moment, he found out, what it was, that bound him to his girl. no vow, no, no promis not to be harmed. no. what one loves.tragic ending. I can only agree with the Weasley :These Aurors only arrive when it is save to show up. when it is over. just to do the next harm. grrrr. hex them please, will you?And what was this appearance of Dumbledore?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Reading your reactions to this chapter brought so much back to me, especially how much I dreaded writing it, from the very beginning--I get so tired of "final battles" and so many people have done such brilliant jobs. So reading your reactions really was reassuring. Thank you.
yes girl, speak up before Dumbledore!! good speech indeed!Severus Imperioused!! how ironic is that!! and that voldy could offer peace, who would have thought of that.but the curse erades ones own will and that seems to produce peace. but the price! grr.when does such a curse end? he can fight it, I hope?and what happened to Bella? healed herself, my foot. And Lucius is not bound by the vow but just by his word. To whose advantage is that?Best line was Hermiones ; today they will meet again and never be parted again. Which could also mean today they will die.o-olet's see.thrilling!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Which could also mean today they will die.Yet again, you picked up on the key point there. Well done. And thank you!
Hermione left to instincts. Lets hope it does her good.this dream-ghost-half-manifestation was a sensation.and her reassurance, we will be safe. yes. she can manage everything.show down in Le Grance vine cellar!! an almost antique gun against pureblood-magical powers. it is an irony, fun and priceless.severus will be dead proud I would say. and he has the reassurance he needed, she is well. he will be sulking that his enemy found his girl where he couldn't trace her. well.and Hermione has the input about the latest development. or say she has some information to chew at. and nothing to defend herself. no gun no magic no wand no nothing. you don't make it to easy for her, you beasty author! but you were kind enough to find her a way to apparate. well done.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I was "kind" enough to find her a way to apparate into the middle of a magical battle where she has no gon, no magic, no nothing to defend herself. LOL!But yes, even though I hadn't planned it ahead of time, the realization that she would use a gun against Bella absolutely thrilled me with irony and pleasure! Thank you for appreciating it!
"they would have a someday" hermione, your word in gods ears.the way sev treats his Dark Lord surprise of a loving father at the dinner table is priceless. post -adolesssscence, my foot! *lol*an oath to him, poor severus! no wonder he threw up.showing us these two ways of Hermione here writing one letter, one frantic the other so collected and to the point was very fine to read, I love such details.oh no! now that Bella is on the run his calculation of being safe by the vow all deatheaters have to do to him is gone down the drain. oh thanks. you have your turns and I shiver again. *grrrr*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I was intrigued by the dynamic between Severus and the Dark Lord once the truth came out. There was always an element of weird affection there, and now it's really dark and twisted.
uproar!!how did you do this!why did you make him his son?astounding.and this idea with binding them together, so when he dies, both die and the other way round. that is tragic, and touching and unique magic.but he has to kneel before this monster, and call him father. please, say this is not true. *shiver*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Uh oh. Sorry. It's true!

Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
heart - ripping!!Did he really lose his heart."What good was a soul when the heart was missing" pure desperation. This is most extraodinary. the cards are completely new mixed. the dark lord knows everything about the "light" side. and Dumbledores plans, reding everything in Severus' shattered mind. And he didn't kill him because of what? he needs him still?he has feelings?I'm shocked. What is displaying in front of me, I can not read in it.why is he bleeing? because his soul is ripped apart?this together with Hermiones contiuned prayers add a very religious, mystical dimension to this story. you web it into it. and it fits so well.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. Reading your reviews just thrills me. And yes, you seemed to pick up on what was happening all the way through. His soul was bleeding, as was hers....
"not now, not here."she has to brace herself. oh my.And to turn Luna into a confident. Good choice. And now she broke her wand, and dissolved the marriage?? she is gone`?? you are a mysterie yourself, I must say. your turns and ideas are unique.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you liked Luna. I didn't know who else she could count on. Luna is smart enough to do anything and weird enough not to ask questions!
The odl master is no longer in control of the reigns.sounds like he was sulking that it wasn't on him to die, to be killed but on pure Hermione. who really didn't ask for it.did she hear the verdict?Dumbledore really commands Severus to kill Hermione, not to mock it like the monk and Julia for the world but not for Romeo. oh grief!! this insane old man
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
He's a general doing the best with what he had. He was willing to die so he figures she should be, too, I guess!
I didn't get to this story when you first started writing it, but after a while I caved in to the pimping over at WIKTT and I'm glad I did. A fantastic story! I love what you've done with Hermione's backstory and what you've done with Snape's backstory - I have never seen that done before and I feel like you've made it acceptable - artistically profitable - to deviate from canon. I loved the way you described Heromine's period - I know, of all the things to zero in on - but I can relate to it. I very rarely say this, but yours was a story that I could go on reading forever - and I really mean that. Thanks so much for posting your wonderful story - it was epic and I look forward to everything else you've written ad will write.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much for your responses! I loved her period, too. LOL! I wonder if that's ever been done to Snape before. I know I enjoyed doing it, and other things that he never in his life expected he'd have to deal with. (In fact, there's more to come!)I'm particularly glad you were okay with where I deviated from canon. In those cases it happened very naturally and I loved what it did for the story, but I also was aware that a lot of people might not care for it, so I'm especially happy that you did.Thank you!
I enjoy this story so much. It's beautifully written, and inspires your readers in the ways of love. Now, if only I could stop crying when I read this story!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You are so sweet! Thank you for this beautiful reaction to a chapter that made me cry, too!
I have finally stopped myself long enought to make a small review/reply before I go on to the next chapter. I have to tell you, normally I do't read unfinished work, especially work this long because I'm afriad its going to be left unfinished. (I've had one do that to me and it just broke my heart lol. I still want an ending for that story). I came upon your story yesterday afternoon and finally put it down at 6am this morning. Went to bed. Woke up. Am here I am reading again. You have done massively wonderful things in this story. I have to admit, at first I didn't like how Hermione was recieved. I didn't like how she seemed so lacking in so many ways, it just wasn't Hermione to me. The more I have read, the more things are fitting into the Hermione we know, and not some OC charrie, which I must admit, I'd not be reading this far if I still felt that way. You've done such wonderful woke. I'm just really blown away. I don't know what else to say. But you do have yourself a reader. Thank you so much for your story. I'm loving it.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! I'm glad that Hermione became a character you could care for. That means so much to me!
What a lovely man Severus is! The way he cared for Hermione just melted my heart. She was so tormented by the bad dream she'd had that she was certain that she had become "contaminated" with the blood of that evil Death Eater witch, Bellatrix Lestrange.Hermione was so upset by the scars Bella had torn her chest open with that she did not want even her husband to see or touch them. But Severus was able to break through her fears:His face was a contrast of light and shadow made alive by flickering candle light, his eyes closed. Slowly he opened them. "Don't deny me this, too."I could understand Hermione's fears that somehow Bellatrix might have been able to exact one last measure of torment upon her. But Severus' gentle ministrations and heartfelt reassurances brought her the to a place of security and realization that no such calamity had befallen her. It was particularly telling of their nervousness visiting Hermione's parents that neither of them wore gloves because they needed to be able to touch each other skin-to-skin.At The Grange, when Sir Alistair had said his little piece at being shocked that his daughter was pregnant, Severus took it all in hand and issued a profound statement of his own about he thought of Sir Alistair's world:
"...we are bound by more than you can ever understand, and it all began with the traditions she loves, your traditions, your Muggle vows which I took most unknowingly and unwillingly. Your world means nothing to me. Your god, less than nothing. But your daughter—" He broke off, then forced himself to continue. "She is my goddess."And that seemed to put the matter out of reach of further discussion. Good for Severus!
"Well," her father muttered, clearing his throat suspiciously, "he should have said so sooner. It would have saved us all a lot of bother."Sir Ali's admission of Lady Granger's two miscarriages during their visit to the wine cellar seemed to soften Severus' feelings toward Sir Alistair's comments on the Wizarding world. And on their return to the drawing room, they felt the need to touch again:
"...then she was darting across the Aubusson rug to his side, this time not content to twine fingers but instead, rubbing her palm against his to increase the connection, and he felt her soft sigh match his. The scene when they were "entertaining the hounds" and opening gifts was so believable and funny that I had to laugh. His thoughtful gift of a new wand for his wife was the perfect thing! I liked very much that "Your wand had a twin"The Midnight Mass became an uncomfortable time for Severus when he began to think of his own father's childhood and how Tom Riddle would have known the songs and the service Severus was now witnessing.Just in the nick of time Hermione, whispered something to her mother and pulled her husband from the their pew and down to the Crypt. She had her own special gift for him... a wedding ring that had belonged to her grandfather:
Staring into his eyes, she slipped the ring over his fingertip and then, sliding it slowly down his finger, said, "With this Ring I thee wed." And as it passed over his first knuckle, "With my Body I thee worship." And as it slid home, "And with all my worldly Goods I thee endow."
In the dark, she was his light. In the crypt of the Muggle god, she was his goddess. In the depths of his despair, she was his hope.
This chapter was wonderful and touching and full of hope! So very well done, my dear.It makes me sad to know that CoMC is coming to an end, but the love story you have written is so beautiful (and has taken root in my soul) that I will carry it with me in my heart for years to come. Thank you,Beth
