Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
This chapter made me laugh out loud. I loved, loved, loved Snape in this. You've perfectly captured his voice and mannerisms, which I can't always say with fanfic. The dialogue is perfection. Excellent, excellent chapter, and I can't wait to read more!

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled that you like it!
*sniff* blast. you made me cry. that was an incredibly beautiful chapter. thank you so much and it was so in keeping with the rest of the story and the season. thank you
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I made you cry? (~hands you tissue~)Thank you so much. It made me cry, too, just so you know.
That was sweet and incredibly gushy!! Great job!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much!
Oh my good goddess. And there's a chapter 62 after that? That's perfect and beautiful. Absolutely wonderful. ((Although, part of me was hoping Hermione would make a little remark about Severus hopefully no longer holding the sins of the father over the son.))Super-duper squee! I absolutely love it.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much! And yes, there's a Chapter 62. These two have a few more things that have to be settled...
I "read my way" into this chapter, starting two back, and found myself savoring every word, including the ones I'd read before. Just exquisite. I am fascinated by the way you are weaving together the muggle and the magical--which is especially appropriate for these two incredible characters. And I also love all the ladies oogling Severus in his black cashmere turtleneck. And his mixed reactions to realizing what is going on there (especially with regard to Cissy!).This is such a rich and textured story, incredibly moving, and I am delighted that it ain't over yet, as you could easily have ended it just here, as she gives him his ring and makes him the promise (again!) that binds them. And how wonderful that he gave her a new wand.Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I've pondered Cissy, actually. I don't think she was looking at him with lust in her heart (ahem) because I think she saves her lust for Lucius. But she does love to decorate and I would think she'd see Severus as a project, although he would have never allowed such a thing to happen!Thank you so very much.
Beautiful. I have no other words to give you: Beautiful.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
That's a pretty nice word there. Thank you.
You touched on a lot of issues in this chapter. Hermione is very worried about her child, her mother blames herself for miscarriages and of course the parents meeting Severus. It is amazing that this chapter wasn't very dark with all of the negative emotions. Excellent job in getting through the dark and having an overall happy chapter. The revelation Severus has at the end of the chapter really made it, lets hope for smoother sailings for them now.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you didn't feel this chapter was too dark. They couldn't bounce back from everything they've been through w/o some issues, but their underlying love for one another is so strong, I was hoping it would make the darker elements of the chapter easier to handle.Plus, the hounds. I love the hounds!Thank you!
happy sigh.... all is well, and I think I can wait somewhat patiently fo the next chapter. thank you for the nice Christmas at the Grange! has it occurred to Severus yet that he's not really Pureblood - that he's three-quarters Pureblood? does he 'inherit' Tom Riddle's stuff that was at Malfoy Manor, such as the other 8 goblets? will you tell us what happened to Dobby, Winky, and the other elves during that bloodbath at the Hollow? I really like Hermione's parents; they've tried to understand and be accepting of the magical world and Severus, although I'm glad they never saw Voldemort! thanks again for the new chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Whew! You made it! I've had mixed reactions to Riddle's other goblets. I thought maybe those might be considered too Dark, since Riddle actually had them and used them once he was the Dark Lord, but I have readers who want Hermione to get the complete set. LOL!And yes, we'll find out more about Dobby and Winky!
Response from June W (Reviewer)
well, Voldy and his ancestors prolly used Severus' goblets too - they weren't brand new when he got them, and I don't think the Riddle ancestors just had them as decoration for generations. they could be seen as war loot, like the British regiment that still drinks toasts out of King Joseph's chamberpot that they took in the Napoleonic Wars.I'm sure Dobby and Winky could scrub them out... thanks for all the responses, and I'll be waiting for the next update!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
King Joseph's chamber pot?Okay, I've got to google that one. LOL!
Response from June W (Reviewer)
http://www.britishbattles.com/peninsula/peninsula-vitoria.htm the page has a photo of the silver chamber pot, and bottom of page has a note about the 14th Hussars. now get back to writing the next chapter, please!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Whaaaa?I'm reading a bout the Battle of Vitoria!(snerk)Thanks for the link!

Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Don't faint! Keep reading! (~~fans JuneW~~)
Wow! I'm so glad to see this update! Well done, lovely details (I really like the italicized memory of Hermione dismissing Severus's fears.... and laughed about returning the wedding present!) Well done!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you liked the way Hermione reacted to his fears. I never thought she'd lose any sleep over it, myself, and hoped readers would understand why!
this too shall pass, and sooner than you might anticipate….meeps! before October 31??
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
LOL! Well, by now you know the answer to that.Thank you!

why does she destroy the book.what do we see here.you lead them through a very trying time. they really get together. and it is not easy to find peace here.and always this bad girl bellatrix and this bad magic.Did she really have to ask him if she could go back again?was it that bad?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Why she destroyed the book is revealed in a later chapter. I'm sorry I haven't responded to your review sooner!

Well, I'm all caught up, so I guess I'll have to wait with everyone else for the next installment.Boy, what a rollercoaster ride! I had a close friend who was bipolar and being with him felt like reading this story. It was always agony or ecstasy, nothing in between. Will Severus and Hermione every get a break? I'm rather glad that I found it late so that I could read this much in only a couple of days instead of agonizing it out over months and months. What torture that would have been.By the way, I can hardly wait for more!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much for taking the ride! I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Interseting. Very interesting. I'm feeling the term happy ending might be a relative term. I really enjoyed the battle, in a weird way. Great chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
The battle was very difficult for me to write so I'm particularly glad that it worked for you. Thank you.

Power. It surged through you as soon as you have posted the chapter.
You have your readers in you hand and surprise them anew with every chapter.
I wonder how Lucius is going to stop Bellatrix from harming Hermione. Or won't he even try?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I love your review! Thank you!

I didn't see see that coming. I wondered about the elfin goblets, but I really didn't see it coming.*Cue Imperial March* I really just had a Star Wars moment LOLI'm still wondering about the repercussions the breaking of a wand - which could happen on accident, as we know from CoS and DH - has. But this is your tale, and your universe. Maybe the difference is the intent behind the breaking.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
If she didn't marry to fulfill the ministry's requirements her wand would be broken and she would be forbidden from using magic again, and would have to leave the magical world, so yes, intent was different here. Thank you for reading and responding!

So Voldemort knows the bible. Well, after being raised in a Muggle orphanage, this would be expected. It just never occured to me.I wonder what he would make of the marriage vows, should he learn about them.Elfin crystal. Does Snape's own set have a siginificance as well?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I figured he's a very intelligent man and would have absorbed a lot of Muggle things, even though he despised it all.

Very intense and such a great chapter. The vengeance of the Weasleys was awesome. Good for Draco also for following through. Looking forward to the aftermath and seeing how everyone is doing, especially Hermione and Severus.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I have always believed the Weasleys would be a true force if threatened. Thank you.

So much angst in one chapter is nearly overwhelming.Well done, though!I really like your "minor" characters (I mean, characters that don't feature prominently in your story) - you really flesh them out well in just a few sentences of dialogue. Your Luna was a good example for that. One has got to love your Luna.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, thank you so much! I always intended to use Luna and was glad when her moment finally came!

Heartbreaking, those last two chapters.I like the idea that the bed was a Horcrux. But why didn't it respond to Colin?Oh god, how can Dumbledore ask of Snape to kill his wife? How can he try to to this by mentioning Lily? Poor Severus - I can't imagine how desperate he must be.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
The bed was defending the Head of Slytherin. Colin was no threat. Hermione and the marriage were. Thank you!

I was basking in the afterglow of that ver, very, VERY, very intense and sensual love scene when you ...... have gone and destroyed my buzz (zu loosely quote another book series).Really Mia, can't those two at least have wonderful sex without angst at the end?But I guess this is the secret to your success.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oooops. Sorry! (Well, not too sorry.) Thank you!
