Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
WOAH! I absolutely loved seeing Bella getting killed by the very type of thing she hates most! Oh that was awesome!Poor Hermione though, she constantly has to be resourceful over and over and over again lol.

Thank you--that's what I had in mind, that of all things, it would be something purely Muggle that would do Bella in. I'm glad it worked for you!

Good God, woman! The problem with reviewing you is that my thought patterns get all mangled - I really should come back in an hour or so but what the hell. It was a fluke that I was even on here - I'm in the middle of a lecture but I had to come deal with an email from my mother about her tax (guh) and so found this and just HAD to read it -- how much do I LOVE/ADORE/'WORSHIP Bella being shot by a revolver -- Hermione shooting her with a regular old Muggle gun -- that is just WONDERFUL. As for Severus - the outer body experience - the whole thing - I don't even know where to BEGIN with that. I shall stop shouting at you now and try and calm myself down enough to go back to my now suddenly very boring feeling lecture. Huh.

You read this in the middle of a lecture?!?Damn, I'm just glad there wasn't any sex. LO!I have worried for weeks about how Hermione would get out of this situation and had several lame ideas--when she got the gun I was astounded and hoped it worked. Thank you!

*thudI printed out CoMC to read in hard copy and so haven't been reviewing chapter by chapter (for which I apologize). This is a breathtaking story and the depth of emotion and connection between Severus and Hermione is both moving and complex. I adore your use of language and description of the emotional texture between the two.The plot itself and its layers and twist and turns is a wonderful backdrop and engine behind the romance. I'm in awe and enjoying this very much. *applauds wildly

Intense chapter. You have an incredible imagination to conjure up all these different magical "things" that Hermione can do. And the vows and the link connecting Hermione and Severus. It's amazing.

Lord, my heart is beating so hard I"m afraid I'm about to have a heart attack. I could SEE every bit of this, as clearly as if it were a drama I was watching on a movie screen. I wish it was!--it is worthy of it.Did V. never mean to allow Severus to go after Hermione after all? If he did, why does he keep delaying him with silly demands of proof of loyalty? If he doubted his loyalty so much, why take things so far as to declare him his heir and make the others pledge loyalty? It seems he doesn't care if Bella---or Lucius---do have enough time to reach, and kill, Hermione. It's more as though he is playing a cruel game of cat-and-mouse with Severus, biding his time until one of them reaches Hermione first, and then Severus falls in mortal agony as his death echoes hers. It makes no sense---did he not promise Severus himself "WE will find her?" Why, then, does he keep delaying him from going to seek her?And Hermione--was the out-of-body experience proof, truly, of how strong she is----or of how weak she's getting, how near she is to being out-of-body permanently? Was the giving of her strength to Severus to "save him" from the after-effects of the Vow the last dregs of her soul pouring itself out for him? She was so weak, in the end, she couldn't even hold onto the gun while she Portkeyed....I hope the Dark Lord gives both Lucius and Bella "what for" when he appears before Him with her un-enchanted body! But knowing slippery Lucius, he'll get off with another lie (unless Bella is conscious enough to rat him out, not wanting to go down alone). May both of them get what they have coming to them! And Percy, too!So....now to Luna. So much seems to be hanging now on Luna. Does she have any way to contact Severus, to let him know where Hermione is? Safely?Going now to get one of my potassium pills and a nice cup of chamomile---calm down, heart, beat! beat! PLEASE have mercy and hurry with the next chapter---and please bring them together soon! My heart is huritng right along with them!

P.P.S.: Ok, so now I know my mind has exploded with this latest, because it's only just dawned on me that Bella imay be ALREADY dead--somehow on first reading I'd thoought she'd merely reverted to her 'true' (ugly) form, to be taken back wounded in that form by Lucius to the D.L. If she is: well, ring the bells out! Ding, Dong, the witch is dead! If not, I can't wait to see your description of the D.L.'s reaction when Lucius appears before him with this withered creature in his arms!

I love-love-love your reviews!!!You know I can't answer any of your questions, but they reminded me of something you didn't ask but I don't mind saying--somebody asked me about Percy, and is he a Death Eater. I don't think so. I think he's still the same Percy with the same small-ish dreams, all wrapped around his career with the Ministry. Yes, he's enamoured with Hermione because he thinks they have a lot in common and thinks she'd be an asset to his career, but I don't think he's gone to the Dark Side. He has spilled his guts to Lucius Malfoy because Cornelius Fudge and other high-ranking Ministry officials still mix with Lucius, and I think poor Percy sees his ability to give Lucius what must seem like relatively benign (if highly inappropriate) info about the marital activities a way to keep his own options open if Lucius continues to have power, and also, Percy doesn't have a lot of friends. Lucius knows how to charm. I think Percy has been seduced into what he perceives as a friendly relationship with Lucius, but Percy is a Weasley and if Lucius were stupid enough (and he's not) to try and get Percy to join Voldemort, it would never happen.Bella simply had to catch him away from the Ministry and use an Unforgivable or two (probably with an Obliviate to follow, though I'm not sure about that) to get her info. Um, okay, that has nothing to do with anything you said, but I don't think it's going to be explained in the story, so I give it to you here. LOL!
Response from countrymouse (Reviewer)
I'm suffering so much from CoMC withdrawal, that since I can't have another chapter, I've been going back over reviews, squeezing out what drops of sustenance I can from your review-responses to assuage my parched soul languishing in the barren desert of no updates. (Am I pitiful enough, yet? grin) And I've thought of even MORE questions.FIRST---a guess about the gun. If it wasn't left behind because, as I thought, she was too weak to hold onto it during the portkey travel, was it stripped away because the wards around Hogwarts would not allow anyone to enter with a danterous or deadly weapon?SECOND---as far as Dumbledore knows, Hermione is still under a death-sentence from the Dark Lord. He may even think that Severus has himself gone out searching for her for the very purpose that HE (Severus) would be the one to reach and kill her before anyone else could find her---sort of to protect her from being tortured, etc. The attack of Bellatrix and Lucius on her would only confirm D. in that belief. So--given that---what protection--if ANY --- would D. give her at Hogwarts? Might she even be in danger from D. HIMSELF---who might think he would be doing Severus a favor by doing the difficult thing for Severus that he couldn't do, since D.'s ONLY concern is that Severus remain a useful tool for D.'s purposes with the Dark Lord?THIRD--and others have touched on this---once Hermione gets inside Hogwarts (and even that's not certain)---and Harry KNOWS she's there (will he? or will Luna hide her somewhere?) then Harry will know the "otter" patronus is a fake, and the Order will be fully prepared (one would hope) for battle. Yet, the DL told Severus---"Do not fail me"---what if he does? He then dies---and so does Hermione?FOURTH--You've left it totally ambiguous as to whether Severus cares anymore WHICH side wins this war, or whether his loyalties are at all anymore with the Light over the Darkness. It IS manifestly obvious that the ONLY thing he cares about is keeping Hermione SAFE. To that end, he's trying to hasten the confrontation between the DL and Harry---mostly to keep Hermione out of harm's way, and also to prevent either of them being used against the other as a weapon of blackmail due to their soul-union. Yet, SEVERUS DOES NOT KNOW THAT SHE IS NOW AT HOGWARTS----right in the thick of where battle is soon to be joined. What new danger will this put BOTH of them in?FIFTH---I don't understand how Hermione snapping her wand ended her ability to do magic. Aren't witches and wizards BORN witches and wizards? Aren't they singled out by the parchment roll in Hogwarts from their birth, before they ever possess a wand or have ever done magic? Why, then, should the snapping of a wand suddenly change a witch into a Muggle? Hagrid still had magic after his wand was snapped; Ron was still considered a wizard after his was broken. What happened to Hermione's magic? After all, the snapping of her wand, even though it was voluntary (and not IN-voluntary like Hagrid's or Ron's, was NOT to renounce being a witch, but to renounce any willingness to be under the authority of the Ministry of Magic and their Marriage laws. And Hagrid was allowed to live on in the Magical world after his wand was snapped---why must Hermione face the dangers of being sent to Azkaban for what she did? Obviously, she "is" still a witch, because she can see Hogwarts. But is she now in danger of being taken to Azkaban, if D. or the authorities find her there?SIXTH (and I think last)---Obiouvly, the Ministry and D. consider Hermione and Severus no longer married, since she snapped her wand. Yet, the DL still refers to her as Severus' wife. Does HE recognize that they are still married due to the soul-union? Or is that only PART of the truth? Is it that SOMETHING about the TYPE of marriage they had, there in the crypt, united them in marriage "till death do us part" that "no man (could) put asunder"?I know you can't answer any of this, but it eases my poor thirsty soul to just articulate the questions. A few drops of water, please, to cool my tongue in this flame?

Holy hell, woman! What a ride! How very much do I love Bella getting shot with a revolver? *g* And now Hermione, though confused out of her mind, at least has some idea of what's going on with Severus. Yay! Though I have a feeling that fragmented information is going to turn out to be as dangerous as ignorance, if not moreso.

You certainly know how to write a cliffhanger, don't you? This is a wonderful chapter, and I'm on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. My favorite parts were when Severus forgets his place and orders the Dark Lord around like a wayward student - although he does get put in his place fairly quickly. Looking forward to what comes next! (By the way, since I met you in Dallas, I can almost hear your voice reading this chapter out loud in my head.)

I loved how Hermione used a gun. I doubt that either Bellatrix or Lucius even heard of them.

The ending had me on the edge of my seat. Keep it up, my dear! The race is on. It's all adrenaline from here on out (well, except, of course, for the lusty pause when you reunite our Professor and his wife--right???).
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, I think the adrenaline is going to carry us through from this point forward....
I don't know with whom I should be more angry: with Hermione for fighting so hard at a time where fighting was not essential for survival, or with Dumbledore. What was he thinking? Bastard!Colin was very sweet.Funny how I like a character I find absolutely annoying in canon in your story.

I don't even know where to begin! First I must say shouted, "no no no!" when I discovered I finally caught up on this story! 55 chapters later, and I have to tell you that I'm a fan for life.Alright, on to the regularly scheduled review...'Something cold and delicious and dark surged within him. Power.'I felt shivers just there. Ooh.And Bella's 'You talk in your sleep.'Oh, that makes me nervous, because who knows where that crazy hag is, and if she could get to Hermione, or back to Voldemort. DID he say something to give him away? He's Voldemort's SON? I still am in shock over that.Amazing story, amazing chapter, amazing you. I'm in awe.

The sweetest line, 'time for us to discover it on our own, for life to unfold for us in its own time...'Needed a kleenex there, you know...And then BAM, stupid Voldemort makes his disgusting presence known, doing who knows what to our beloved Professor, and almighty and heaven, this story is just one crazy twist after another! I really must say that this chapter touched me. You're a very gifted writer, and though I've been telling you this for the past two dozen chapters, I love your Snape. I love your Hermione. Dumbledore's up in the air for me, the manipulative bastard....Ok, so maybe not so up in the air.Love every sentence. The chapter flows beautifully and it's heart breaking and gut wrenching and perfect all at once.

ITCHING beyond belief to know what Hermione told Dumbledore! I think there were probably hints, but it's eluding me! Gah!Another fantastic chapter! Hermione's so amazing, and Snape is just...Damn. HOT. So strong, so weak, so delicously complex.

Hooch's line, "your vast experience of eighteen years on this earth has done nothing to prepare you for the man who is Severus Snape..." was so great! I loved it!I loved the bonding between them when he returned her memories to her. She's so innocent, yet so strong, and I think perfectly SUITED to him!!Oh, please let them make it to Christmas! If I get down on my knees and beg, would you? I have little to offer, except my continued reading and heartfelt reviews, but please??The way you ended this chapter was great. You have a good gift for making the end seem so great, without too frequently having me think WTF?? LOL...

Thank you so much! I had to go back and check to see how the chapter ended, and then I realized what you meant about Christmas. And yes, sigh, because I want them to make it to Christmas, too.Again, thank you.

Oh My!! I've got chills. This story is so well-written, it's almost a shame that you're not a published author. It's also a shame that I can only gift you with stars and a review to repay the gift you have bestowed upon all of us. You are an extremely talented artist.I would give you more stars if I could!!~*
