This is a full-length Book Seven fic. Cliffhangers and unexpected twists abound, but don't look for beloved characters to die tragically before your very eyes--Fawkes_07 is all about redemption. Written for young readers but hopefully fun for all.
I'm printing out a version for my kids in book format--I even found all the right fonts and everything. Hence the "artwork" in the chapter headings. What can I say, I'm more of a ceramics person than a drawing person.
Can I note with pride that "Heirs of Slytherin" was just chosen as a Featured Story on MNFF? *glows*

Someone who really, REALLY ought to be doing something else, but just keeps on writing.
Wondering why my stories take forever? Have a look at My Other Time Devourer: www.willametteartcenter.com I'm both the webmaster and the president of the Friends of the Visual Arts, a 501-C3 nonprofit in Salem, Oregon. We Put The Fun Back In Art.
Having 2 sweet little boys tends to drag things out too.
And what the heck, as long as it's self-pimpage time: If you just can't wait for the next chapter of Fair Ex, you can always go buy my book. It's not HP or fanfic but it's got that Fawkesy snark (in spades) It's here: www.turondo.com Warning: there's a bad word in the title.
Reviews for Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin
fantastic. This is really getting tense now. Nice thoughts on why Fawkes didn't do the cavalry thing at the end of HBP though. I'd rave about this chpp more, but I'm back at work in three minutes. Excellent way to spend a lunch hour though!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks. That end of HBP thing always bugged me--Fawkes saved Dumbles from an AK in the Ministry Atrium, so why didn't he do it again on the top of the Astronomy Tower? He was obviously around--he started singing afterward...

OMG poor Fawkes, poor Harry.............the tension is just too much for me. It's brilliant though and I look forward to more.

Yah--imagine what it was like for Dumbledore to lock Fawkes up that fateful night?! Yowch!

Love it, love it love it!
The Harry/Fawkes connection is so very beautiful and touching and I love Harry's character development. The build up in this story is like a slow, slow flame and the tension is just exquisite. The showdown is goint to be great, I can just feel it. Thanks for yet another terrific chapter.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
*sigh* Man, I hope so--it's all about to come to a giant crash, too. I hope I've pulled it off. The slow flame is very different from the big kaboom...

I LOVE the description of how NOT to buy a wedding gift. Wonderful! You've made Petunia such a sad character. but it is very logical, who wouldn't be sad under those circumstances? I love to see other people's ideas about obscure bits of the Wizarding world and lesser known characters. Woo Hoo! what a chapter! I am very impressed and am definintely going to come back and read more of this! loved the wild magic and the green evil fire. Poor dursleys! hpe they had good insurance.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Snerk. That's how my own mom buys them, essentially, and it just kills me. I think Petunia IS sad--and filled with massive denial. Who could possibly be truly happy with such a nasty husband and son? I don't care How Many nice kitchen appliances you have...Funny you should mention--the insurance issue will be coming up in about 20 chapters. :)

very interesting- i think both Harry and Hermione would have known who Hitler was. I like Harry's burst of legilimency. interesting twist. Really a promising start.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks. The bit about Hitler was more for my kids' benefit--I put it in to spark conversation with them about real world megalomaniacs.

Yes, I did notice the OotP tie-in with Trelawney :-) Once I got past the fact that Umbridge was the traitor, I was pretty impressed with the backstory. I also liked the little twist with Fudge on Polyjuice and how the storyline fillied in a lot of the plot holes from canon. I particularly liked the explanation of the missing 24 hours. Then, I'm really impressed with your take on Occlumency and Legillmency - also poorly handled in canon. When you first introduced the concept of Harry as a Legillimagus, I thought "Oh no", but you've handled it brilliantly and turned it into a very intriguing concept while letting the characters grow at the same time. It's very good. I love the Harry/Tura interaction. It's a very intriguing relationship and you manage to keep it very "adult" (as in mature, not as in fanfic NC-17 adult) and believable. When HBP came out, I complained a lot about the romances in it being childish (as in poorly written by someone who has not yet mastered the technique) and completely any passion, and recieved a lot of comments along the lines "these books are meant for children, JKR can't write them having sex!" (which was of course, not my point at all). You've just given a fantastic example of well-written, passionate romance that stays within the PG rating. It's all very good.
Response from RedOrchid (Reviewer)
(Should be "completely void of any passion" fourth line from the end. My fingers and my brain aren't always coordinated it seems. :-))
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
I hear that about fingers, meet brain. *snerk*It's nice to hear that you see the HP/TO stuff in such a good light. I thought the "romance" in OOTP and HBP were kinda flat, too--that Harry seemed more attuned to physicality than emotional connection. Which is probably realistic--he'd never really learned to handle affection as a kid, right? But I'd like to see him grow past that. Plus, I'm sorry, I don't believe in childhood crushes turning into lifelong romances. Even HG/VK is pushing it a bit for me, but Harry/Ginny is just plain silly.
Response from RedOrchid (Reviewer)
Not to mention HG/RW, now there's a divorce waiting to happen. :-) I thought your HG/VK was kinda sweet, though I would of course have been happier, had there been a certain potions master in Hermione's future. Oh well. :-)Harry and his empathic abilities are a bit contradictory in canon, I think. On one hand, it's his ability to love that's supposed to vanquish Voldemort and save everyone, on the other hand, he's extremely self-centered and emotionally cut off. Though I guess that since JKR decided she'd rather do a big point abut death and not let it play out in the end, it doesn't matter as much to the actual series anymore. I like the way he's developing through this story. The darkness is very well portrayed and I like that it isn't easy.
How... morose.

Well, ya gotta have a little misery thrown in there.

Oh wow! This is getting emotional. I love the way you're starting to wrap up some of the threads. It feels like the end is closing in, and that this calm will soon be shattered. I can't wait!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! Yeah, that's what I'm working towards--wrapping up and then the big Finale.
Eeeek. I cannot WAIT for the rest.Great job putting all the peices together it must have been really hard.Great work!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! Yeah, it's wrapping up pretty well, I think.
That was so tragic at the end there. Poor Harry.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Cool! That was just what I was shooting for.
WOW! Threads are starting to come together now. I just hope they haven't tipped their hand too early by exposing the Umbridge as the traitor.
I like your insane mind babble in Alice's mind, and the thing with the wrappers. It was a nice touch.
Keep up the good work!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! I wondered about that myself, actually. Gotta see how 40 shapes up.
Oh, wow. That was something. Dolores Umbridge should really be tortured to the point of death, over and over.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Oh, I think Harry's going to have a shot or two at her in 40...
A-zillion-plus on this. Loved it keep it up.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Great! Thanks!
Umbridge the traitor, that vile swollen toad of a hag! grrrrrrr!
Loved this chapter, glad you're helping the Longbottoms.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Exactly. And pinning it on Fudge, whom she so smarmily kissed up to... I love to hate Umbridge.
arrrrrrrggggggggggg how much more do i have to endure i am really trying to be patient this is a great chapter i am just glad you let us know who the traitor was that would have been truly evil to leave us hanging on thatso you have kept your word about about not killing off loved characters and you are even bringing some loved ones back very coolso have you still not read j.k.r. book 7 i know you said you wnated to finish this onr firsti still cant beleive how you keep comming up with this stuffyours truly julie
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Chapter 40 is the last one that is completely unwritten. From then on, all I have to do is give the chapters a final polish and I can post them. So it won't be too much longer...
Okay, you have redeemed Draco, paired off Ginny,Elias, Ron, Luna, Viktor, & Hermione, resurrected Sirius, now are you going to get started on offing TMR and rescuing/redeeming/de-villianizing the OTHER hero? Please, this is too good to leave poor Sev swinging in the wind! I just adore your stories. I got hints of something with the comment about the DADA position and the healer that no one else saw. Hurry and post more. Thanks for the rush.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Trying, trying--Halloween is a major production at our house and for some reason 39 is just dragging out of me at a painfully slow pace. I have about 4500 words of it done but I still have a lot more to write, and no time to write it. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss your hints a bit... (loves spoilers)
Ooer! The plot thickens!!!!!!!! Wow, that was great. I love your take on what happened that night. Interesting, with a bit of a cliffie, what was Dumbledore doing there? I hope you get the next chapter up soon.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
That's the question of the hour, isn't it? I'll try to get it written ASAP--I only have 39, 40, and 41 to go--42-47 are mostly finished. I REALLY want to get this book done so I can read DH.
Response from helshez (Reviewer)
Your willpower is formidable. I could not have held out this long. (Hell, I couldn't hold out at all... my daughter must have felt like an orphan the day it came out because I spent the entire day with my nose stuck in the book!) You deserve a pat on the back, or a white jacket with extra long sleeves that fastens up the back. ;P
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
*snerkity-snork* I have one of those. Did I mention I have to type all my stories with my nose?
Response from helshez (Reviewer)
*chuckle* That could get messy if you catch a cold. I'd practice typing with toes if I were you, winter's right around the corner, y'know. ;)
WHAT! DUMBLEDORE! OH MY GOODNESS!
Another gripping, exciting and excellent chapter.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! I love evil cliffies.
Oooh. That is a twisty there, isn't it? Good chapter.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! I still haven't read DH so I don't know how JKR addressed this issue (of "laughter" in Harry's room AFTER voldy was killed), but I hope this is at least as interesting.
Come across this story after searching the top ten lists. It's fantastic. Haven't been able to stop reading, well apart from the need to sleep.
Looking forward to more chapters.
Summing it up........................BLOODY BRILLIANT!
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! Um, what top ten list?
Response from Merlinsbeard (Reviewer)
When you use the search function, at the bottom is a button for the top ten lists. Your story appears in the top ten "most words" list.
Huzzah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm glad to see everyone's alright. I'm also glad Harry and Tura look like they may be able to mend bridges. I'm really glad you've finally got this chapter done. It makes a nice little road sign for the plot. Hopefully you'll be updating again soon????
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
A road sign for the plot--now that's the perfect description of this chapter. 38 is half done and if my kids ever quiet down again, I'll hopefully finish it soon. And it's a whopper.
yippie that was wonderful just like all your other chaptersthank you thank you thanj youyours truly Julie
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
*blush* awww, thanks. I hope 38 won't take so long.
Yay! A possible rekindling! (Not to mention an update...)
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
Thanks! I'll try not to take so long for 38.
You know, I understand all this they have to go through, but I would never allow a man who hit me to touch me again. Ever. I really disliked that part. But I do enjoy the story for the most part otherwise.
Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
I know. I wouldn't either. But Tura's kinda messed up in a lot of ways, and like Sirius said, she of all people can tell that Harry's filled with remorse.
Hi,
just came in through your other story and went through till here. Think to let you know.
Uh oh; I have the 'get a room' scene in a very similar context but invented it myself. Hope uou don't mind. Will still take many chapters till I get there.
Ah about this story: you got them all nicely in character, andsome scenes and ideas are really great. Not sure I like this Tura-person, but she isn't easy to understand. Good for her that she found Hagrid.
Is Remus leading the Order?
What's it with Snape, isn't anyone suspicious about his reasons? Will he remain a bad guy? The Dark lord you paint is rather human, and reasonably so, spinning them even deeper into a cocoon they cannot escape from. I liked that Siberia-scene.
Please keep writing; I'll keep reading,

Response from Fawkes_07 (Author of Harry Potter and the Heirs of Slytherin)
hee hee, I think the "get a room" concept is fairly common, in all sorts of situations. Tura's odd, but there's reasons for it, as you'll see as the story goes by. Remus is leading the Order, it sorta fell to him by default. Snape will remain a mystery for some time but how it ends...well, you'll see in about 34 chapters.
