Reviews for An Act of Love
Oh, very good! At least Dumbledore didn't blame him for the situation to his face; he should know Severus has been doing that for quite some time already. Albus is still massively naive about the danger Snape is in from others who could hear what they should not. And it's clear that both of them know the Astronomy Tower is quite likely in their future, and neither one will survive the aftermath.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I don't think he's naive about that -- he just figured that a simple, "good night, Miss Granger" would be sufficient -- he thought that Severus had been joking about the chocolates and the "fond adieu," which would certainly be inappropriate for anyone to overhear. Even if he weren't a Death Eater, it could sound more than a little strange to an eavesdropper!
Thanks for the review!
It's easy for Albus to say Snape should have stopped the fight sooner between the students--given how many times Snape was made a dishrag by the Marauders with nobody stopping _them_, I can't say I'm impressed. Of course he has to blame Snape for everything, though, now doesn't he? Now it's over and Severus will live, he can let his anger and frustration out. But as usual, it's not fair to Snape. What else is new?Minerva clearly loves and has a great deal of patience with Dumbledore, but at some point she's absolutely right to bring out the Big Clue Brick and whack her husband one with it. I don't blame Albus for keeping it quiet that Minerva is his wife--no one would even expect him to be fair to any of the other houses if that got out (though I suspect nobody does anyway by now). Good chapter!
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I rather doubt that's why Albus would keep it (the marriage) secret under the circumstances, though.
This was another instance of Severus getting himself into a situation in which his poor judgment played a large role in creating the problem for himself in the first place. By comparison, Dumbledore (or any other teacher) didn't stand by and watch Sirius lure Severus to the Shrieking Shack, whatever one thinks of the later events -- not expelling Lupin and Black, or whatever it was that young Severus would have found sufficient punishment. I rather doubt that his teachers stood in the shadows chuckling to themselves while he was being harassed by Black and Potter, either.
The consequences Severus bore certainly far outweighed his negligence and bad judgment, so Albus isn't going to say anything more to him about it. He knows that Severus is not stupid and has figured all that out; bringing it up again would just be rubbing salt in the wound. Albus has been very forebearing, to the point of causing himself distress in attempting not to cause greater distress in Severus and Minerva. He obviously had greater problems with the situation in the end, as a result, but he did his best. Everyone involved made various mistakes throughout the story, but, for the most part, they were doing their best, and there were many "acts of love" throughout the story, as well, not just when Minerva freed Severus from the curse.
I am always surprised that no one took Minerva to task for not telling Severus sooner that she would "do the deed" with him -- it may have spared him some of his anguish. I can understand why she didn't, but it could be looked at as a mistake, especially given Snape's close encounter with that sleeping potion.
Thank you for the review! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. There's one more chapter and an epilogue to come, the way it's been broken out right now. I look forward to your thoughts on them!
I like the way you softened Snape, just a little. He's got so many knee-jerk reactions that are purely defensive. It's nice to think that what he's been through and all he felt might actually have a lasting impact on him.Being just a little bit nice to Granger.Considering having a drink with Lupin.Teeny tiny, itty bitty, but believable baby steps from The Curmudgeon of the Dungeon.Delightful!
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you! I'm glad you like the characterization of Snape and find his slight softening to be believable. It was fun to write Snape's encounters with the three Gryffindors.
Thanks for reviewing!
Nice interaction with Severus and Hermione. I'm really looking forward to more.Truly
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thanks very much -- glad you liked the SS-HG conversation. There is (as it's divided up now) one more chapter and an epilogue to come. I appreciate your reviews!
This was a fun chapter to read! Having Snape interact so much with Remus and then Hermione and then Albus as well....tee hee. That's like throwing him several curve balls all at once!It was nice to see a little softer side of Snape come out of all of this. And it's like he told Albus...he can't totally let down his guard because there are always people lurking around the corners and in hallways waiting on something to report back to the Dark Lord or a Death Eater. Still, at least he and Hermione have an understanding between them and if the drink goes well with Remus, it might actually heal a little bit of his old wounds there too.As always, looking forward to more...more...more!!!GLM
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Yeah, the poor guy didn't have much "down time" before he was thrown right into it again -- all these well-meaning Gryffindors! It's enough to make a self-respecting Slytherin Potions Master want to race back to his dungeons! But he tried to act in accordance with some of the lessons he learned that week and not be entirely a nasty bastard. I'm glad you liked the bit with Hermione! And Remus will probably try too hard and irritate Severus, but maybe they'll reach a better understanding of each other. At least when there's no full moon!
There's one more chapter and an epilogue left to come (the way I've got it divided up at the moment, anyway), so I HOPE to have another chapter up by the end of next week.
Thank you for your review!
Whoo hoo, a AoL update. Rock on! Minerva and Albus clearly had a huge amount to cover. I can't help but wonder what Albus has in mind for his beloved. You really do have the male psyche down as obviously Albus did want to lay claim to Minerva by telling Severus that she was his wife. Although I don't want to keep you away from reading an fic I can't help but hope there is just a bit more of this.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thanks for the review! There are a couple more chapters and an epilogue to go, so your hope should be fulfilled! The next chapter will be up in a couple days. Thanks again!
Aww, how sweet. At least they've cleared the air between them. Wife?! Poor Severus getting a shock like that, but it does seem right that Albus would keep it quiet. Good work. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. The next chapter should be up on Friday or so.
Excellent. I glad to decided to expand the story. Looking forward to more.Truly
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it! There should be another chapter up toward the end of the week.
As difficult as the ordeal has been for both of them, it gave them the chance to come to a new awareness of what they have. After being together for so long, it is easy to take each other for granted. Because of what they both had to do in the name of mercy, they have had the chance to really think about their own relationship and what they appreciate about each other. That will surely be a strength for both of them in the dark times to come.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
It has certainly prodded them to want to try to spend as much time together as they possibly can. The next chapter brings us to Severus and how he has spent his first hours of freedom. Thanks for reviewing!
Good gracious...I don't know who to have more sympathy for in this chapter...Albus or Minerva. I couldn't help but smile a bit when Albus let it "slip" that Minerva is his wife. I know it was unintentional but there was a motive behind his words...namely jealousy and no doubt a bit of nervousness. I think after everything that's happened Snape should be darn grateful that's the least Albus did during that little chat. It couldn't have been an easy talk to begin with especially after Snape was so rude to Minerva upon waking.I felt really sorry for Minerva when Albus left the first time without really acknowledging her question or even acting as if he wanted to spend time with her. I have to say she handled it much better than I ever could and then when he returned to apologize...awwwww. That was just what Minerva (and even I) needed!Albus has been so strong in all of this and it was wonderful to see him finally opening up to Minerva and letting her know what's been on his mind. I can see where he would feel all those emotions, though if he'd only talked to Minerva before things wouldn't have been as bad as they were. But no matter....life is good again and Snape is back in his own little dungoens and leaving Min and Albus alone...wooo hooo!!!Can't wait to see what Albus has planned....hope it's something spectacular!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Snape did have a rude awakening, didn't he? haha! But he did apologize! Very nicely, too, especially for Snape . . . .
Yes, Albus sometimes can be too strong for his own good, can't he?
In the next chapter, we pay a visit to Severus and see what he's up to in his first hours of freedom.
Thanks for the review!
Excellent! Very good portrayal. I was ready to slap Albus when he was leaving, though. How dense can he BE?
I must say that reading this alongside RaM is very comforting, b/c it reassures me that they *will* get out of their own way in RaM, eventually! Though obviously their communication patterns can still break down under great stress....
I hope that in the rest of the epilogue you treat how the conclusion of HBP, and its immediate aftermath, play out given the experiences MM and SS now share. I know that's asking A LOT but this storyline just begs for it, IMgreedyO!
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I'm glad you liked it. Albus was dense, but he realized as soon as he'd left that something was not right . . . and he turned around and went back. There are two more chappies and an epilogue to come, as it has broken down so far. There should be another one posted in about a week.
It fabulous! An exellent aftermath. Insecurity is to be expected from both sides, and I think you did a fantastic job portraying that insecurity and the resolution of that insecurity. Well written and emotional.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you very much! The next chapter will be up in about a week, and we'll get to see what Severus was up to.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for the review.
Another great chapter and a very difficult one as well. I don't honestly know how you write this situation so effectively. I'd be a mess if I tried anything like this so GO YOU!!The chat with Snape about what was to happen eventually sounded very believable and you handled that very well. Those paragraphs crackled of unease on both parties and was very believable. Now to the uncomfy part....and you know which one I mean. I felt HORRIBLE for Albus as he had to lay there and let Snape fondle and kiss his wife's nipple. That gave me shudders and deep sorrow at the same time. I can't believe Minerva didn't get out of bed or stop him before it got that far. I'm not saying she's brazen but POOOOOR ALBUS!!! Then for him to have sex with her afterwards...that broke my heart. He must feel in some ways that he's losing her to a man who's younger and has two good hands to do more with, especially since he seems to bring that up frequently. That sex scene was very well written but so incredibly sad at the same time.Their discussion afterwards about it being a long time since he'd done anything like that was sad too. I know they have a healthy relationship but it's always heartbreaking to think that they're losing touch with one another. By that I mean that maybe Albus wanted to wake her more but felt she wouldn't like it...or vice versa. So, they just simply stopped...until now...when it wasn't exactly a "fun" thing to do but a "need" thing. sigh.Anyway, off to read the next bit...nervously!!!The Greedy Mouse...who's back from vacation....sobs
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Minerva felt pretty bad about it, too, once she realized a) Severus's activities had progressed quite a bit since the time that Albus himself had suggested that Severus just come in and "help himself" a couple days before, and b) Albus had been awake and aware of everything.
I look forward to your reaction to the next chapter!
Thank you for your thoughtful review!
I've re-read this story about a dozen times, and all I can think of to say is thank you. This, and your other piece are amazing, and it always gave me a little thrill to see the next update. Now I just need to wait for the epilogue.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you very much! I'm very pleased you enjoyed it so much -- the epilogue will be up in a week or two. I hope it lives up to your expectations!
Thank you so much for reviewing. I appreciate it!!
Sweet Merlin!I knew it was coming but it still took me by surprise! I mean SNAPE! *scrunches up face in disgust* But you pulled it off brilliantly!I have said this before but I will say it again, it is the little attention to detail that makes your writing so great. Melina is a brilliant example, I mean of course her family are going to worry!I love Wilspy! The looks she sported are just classic! My heart goes out to Albus and I am very much looking forward to this epilogue!Congratulations this was feckin' marvelous! (Pardon my language.)Thanks

Thank you very much,
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
! I'm glad that it was "feckin' marvelous"! *grin*
You may have noticed that as time went on, Albus became a bit more uncomfortable, although still supportive of both of them. He did have a rougher time of it than he would admit.
Glad you liked Melina's appearance! Wilspy is a fun character to write -- it was fun to extrapolate from her personality in RaM and think of what she would be like forty years or so later.
Thank you, as always, for your review.
Response from PiER (Reviewer)
Speaking of RaM...when will I have the pleasure of reading another fabulous update?*fingers crossed*

Soon, I hope!
Interesting ending. Very interesting to have Snape react in such a manner. But then I have to say even though he was a mean bastard when he did it was kind of a relief to have him back to being his mean, old Snape again. It' s been fantastic reading and I'm looking forward to your epilogue .
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you! Yeah -- and he was mean, too, wasn't he? It was as though he was releasing all the pent-up nastiness from the previous five days.
Thanks for the review!
Response from Goddess McG (Reviewer)
P.S. Just re-read some of my responses to your story and in the very first one you replied that it would be a story io 3-4 chapters I guess you had more in you than you first anticipated . Of which I'm grateful for .
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I was appalled when the story reached chapter five, but then when I started chapter six, I decided just to make it as long as it needed to be. At least there was a limited time-span to cover, since I already knew when I started it what the beginning and the end would be, and the highlights in the middle, and so I knew it couldn't be too long. I actually eliminated a couple of things in order to be able to more-or-less meet the challenge deadline, and I put the wrap-up in the epilogue rather than in chapter ten, as I had been going to do originally. I did try to shorten it by taking out some of the characters' introspection, but to me, it was the psychological dynamic that helped make the story interesting by inserting conflict. Otherwise, Minerva could have just jumped into bed with him that first day (which I think would have been OOC, given that my version of the spell could kill Severus, but not right away). And by having Severus interact with someone who not only didn't return his feelings but who was in a committed relationship with someone else added to the difficulties. As for having more in me than I anticipated, I started RaM because I didn't want to write a PWP -- and I have yet to write a lemon for it! LOL!
Thank you for all of your reviews -- reviews keep me writing!
If I had more than two thumbs they'd be up too A fantastic chapter. The situation with Albus wakeing up while Snape was touching Minerva was very interesting. and steamy.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the chapter -- and the steam!
Thanks for reviewing!
:-) that was lovely. I would really love a sequel to this universe. How might this affect severus in the long run. <3 Excellent Excellent story. I do belive this is my favorite non-granger/Snape story.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the story so much. There will be an epilogue in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned for that. I have thought that it is the sort of story that could have a sequel, but I don't know if I would do one.
Thanks for reviewing!
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I forgot to mention that if you enjoyed this story, you might want to check out "Resolving a Misunderstanding" -- it is set pre-HP and has humor, drama, angst, romance, and even some action/adventure. It is, in certain respects, a more complex story than "An Act of Love." Thought you might give it a try. A lot of SSHG fans here and elsewhere have said they really enjoy it, despite usually reading nothing but SSHG. Your mileage may vary, as they say! *grin* And "An Act of Love" is set in the same universe as "Resolving a Misunderstanding," so it could be looked at as a "prequel" of sorts!
Response from Calicoskys (Reviewer)
ooh I shall chech that one out then :)
things are heating up so to speak. Excellent.Truly
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thanks!
Oh man, that was . . . clinical, I suppose is a good word. Very apropos. Well done.I look forward to the Epilogue.Truly
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thanks! I tried to make it different from the other scenes with Albus.
I appreciate your review! Look for the epilogue in a week or two.
What an interesting ending, I am glad you had the final encounter be...well almost clinical. I hope Minerva doesn't tell Albus about what Severus said to push her away, I am sure Albus would be pissed. I hope the epilogue contains some of Albus's issues. I am glad you put the bit with them in bed in the last chapter by the way. It is a completely logical insecurity of Albus's especially because of his age and the hand injury. Course I can't image what Minerva is feeling after she finds out who kills Albus, especially after this. Looking forward to the final wrap up.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I guess I wanted the final encounter to be a bit zesty but have it contrast with the other "lemons" to help show the differences in their relationships. It also was fun to think of ways that it could be somewhat awkward for two people doing it the first time together when one of them wasn't very experienced in the first place -- without overdoing the awkward aspect of it.
Glad you liked that bit in the last chapter.
Here's a bit of a preview of the epilogue: Severus meets with Albus to arrange his "return" from Mongolia; Minerva deals with Albus; and Severus returns to the location where it all began and encounters . . . I'll let you guess who!
Thank you very much for reading and for all of your thoughtful reviews!
Okay what Snape did for Hermione was quite cute. The next conversatioin Minvera has with Severus is going to be quite different. Of course the one he has with Albus is likely to be even more,...well interesting. I think that Severus is going to be the one with the largest objection to this entire plan, which is of course why Minerva is worried she is going to lose a friend when it is all over. The pace at which you are building to the inevitable is great, it is kind of like watching a planned accident, you don't want to see it or have it happen but you are too glued to watching it to turn away. I hope you are on target to finish before the end of the month, the tenision is killing me! :) Great job.I also can't get the image of the what happened on the top of the tower out of my head either. I am waiting with held breath to see how you link that in to this.
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Yes, that conversation will be . . . different!
I hope to finish the story and post it by the end of the day today. We shall see.
Thank you very much for your encouraging review!
I'm really glad Hermione can help. This is coming along very nicely. Well done.Truly
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
Thank you for reviewing!
Yay, Minerva!
Poor Severus. Hopefully he *will* remember later that smiling and laughing and being grateful do not lead to the universe collapsing! And Pansy-Hermione jinx fest was great! God Save the Queen indeed.
I too love the image of Albus curled around Minerva. I'd take one evening with a man like that then many of passion w/ someon lesser! And Minerva gets both! Lucky witch!
Response from MMADfan (Author of An Act of Love)
I'm glad you enjoyed the "jinx fest", but I'm especially glad you also enjoy the image of Albus and Minerva. I think Minerva considers herself lucky, too!
Thanks for reviewing!
My eyes were popping out of my head when I began to read this story. SNAPE! But you make it work...really well! My mind is racing with different ways and scenarios this fic can end.I actually feel worse for Albus. He has to just sit back and...well...watch!Pansy - the great big eegit! (Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.)You had me laughing out loud during the last part when Snape was trying to adequately show his appreciation to Hermione. The cheering charm was such a simple yet blooming brilliant solution!I am looking forward to more!

I'm glad you're enjoying it.
All three of them have it tough at various moments. I find it difficult to decide who to feel the worst for. Of course, I know how it ends, too . . . (LOL!)
Glad you liked the Cheering Charm and Severus's interactions with Hermione. They were fun to write -- especially giving Snape someone else to interact with.
Thanks very much for reviewing! I appreciate it. :D
