Severus has been running from himself for years. What happens when his pain catches up with him in the form of the new Potions teacher, Hermione Granger? My response to the 8th Prompt of Potter Place's Winter Challenge.

I'm 22, happily unmarried and happily enrolled in the University of my somewhat limited choice... I read constantly and write whenever I have the chance to do so. I sing, I work, I sleep, and I enjoy bickering with my awesome family. That is all.
PS: DMHP. Always.
Reviews for A Living Hell
Wow...Severus is truly the master of the verbal flay. I was completely shocked at the depth of some of his attacks. I guess you could say cruelty is as cruelty does. Most of his life experiences (or at least the ones we've seen in the books) have been horrid so he emulates what he knows. Add on some serious self loathing to boot and presto. I can only hope that he will find and accept the redemption that is possible, even for 'someone like him.'Wonderful start to the story! I hope you update soon.

I wondered as I was writing if he was going too far to be believable, but in the end, it was like you said. That depth of pain can cause people to be extremely cruel. And you are right about the self loathing... lol I gave a heavy dose. He'll begin to heal soon, though. He just needed to hit bottom. And of course, he will find redemption. Finding ways to redeem Severus is what drives me. :D
Thank you for reviewing!
I've enjoyed this first chapter a lot. So many people are like Severus, though not necessarily to that extent. I'm looking forward to reading the next chapter.

Thank you, and you are right. A lot of people are like him, although Severus obviously takes it to the extreme.
Thanks!
Man, as sorry for him as I felt, I also felt like slapping him upside the head. And I can only imagine how horrible Hermione must have felt.
I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I'm curious as to where they go from here.

I agree. Personally, I think she's a stronger woman than I. If all the other torment wasn't enough, he'd have gotten a slap in the face and an angry knee to the balls the moment the word 'whore' left his lips. But then, I wouldn't have much chance at later romance in my story if I went around injuring the genatalia of my protagonist... ;)
Thanks for the review!

Awww, come on, a little bit of ice and those nuts would have been as good as new.

LMAO. Good point. I'll keep that in mind for later if Severus gets out of hand again...
I love your story and would love to read more. I hope that you continue soon. I am such a lover of Snape and believe Hermione to be the only one capable to bring him as she has clearly shown...besides she really a little self-righteous and I'm quite certain he has special ability to teach her about that.
In the end, I'm happy that she was able to make some insight about herself. That was important as well. Also, when she let him off of the trial period? Great. :)
Well I think this is a very interesting. I din't know if you are planning to make this a romance in later chapters, but you have a great start in creating an interesting story.
I'm glad Hermione and Severus are now going to be friends to each other. That's definitely a step in the right direction. I'm also glad that Hermione realized the ridiculousness of her ultimatum.
It was nice to see an update, and I look forward to more!
I like it all right. Hermione's realisation was so very well written and realistic.
Very good insights for both Severus and Hermione. I hope there's more coming soon? Yes?
I'm really enjoying this story. I think your characterizations are excellent!
Oh, I very much enjoyed the fighting, the humbling, and the starting over. I'm glad you've taken it back up, and look forward to more.
I love your humbled Hermione. I often think she needs to be taken down a peg or two. Besides her childishness gives snape a chance to snark in a nice way.
All the huffy door-slamming reminds me of "Moonlighting" in the show's glory days--I'm Old School. Hermione needed to get off her high horse and be reminded that she's only human.
All right, some good progress and not done in a sappy manner!
Whew, well that's out of the way. At least now they seem to understand each other.
You are doing great! I'm enjoying your portrayal of both Snape and Hermione - they feel true to canon to me. I really look forward to the next chapter!
Write On!
I really like this story and hope you update soon! Thanks!
I really like your story, it's beautifully written and I love the way you showed what incredible power a place in connection with memories can have. To me it seems that going up that tower is a much much bigger thing to resolve than being civil to Hermione...
*waits impatiently for next chapter*
Hiya! I have loved what you've written so far, I hope you write more, it's great :)
This is fantastic. Hermione's letter, to me, reads exactly how I imagine it would in canon. I hope you manage to keep Snape a snarky, irritable bastard, but with a hopefully happy ending.
What a great start to your story. I look forward to reading more.
Ugh, a Hufflepuff? Surely Hermione deserves better! :-)Can't wait to see how that week progresses...
for a tiny second i thought he was going to jump off the tower... then i realised i was reading too fast and got ahead of myself and realised he was only trying to confront his past/Albus/fears/something of importance/blah...lol
great chapter although that Mitch (who sounds far to much like Percy) sounds like as much fun as smashing ones head against the kitchen table. A lot of hard work going nowhere, and you end up with a headache by the end of it! lol
anywho update soon please and thankyou!

Another good chapter! :D I can understand how Hermione would be initially suspicious of Snape's motives when he apologised, given his former treatment of her.I do like how she's provided a second chance for him...
