It began with a letter, and a secret. Was it madness to trust? Was it a secret salvation? Or was it all just lying on a ring, in the end...? (***HBP SPOILERS***)

I have to apologize to everyone, period. Real life swallowed me whole, as I have been struggling to make a living writing original fiction over the last 8 years. It has not been easy, & has been complicated by health issues. I hope people can forgive my long silences. Trying to make enough money to live on from writing is a lot harder--waaaay harder--than it looks. (At least I didn't leave any posted fanfics unfinished.)
Anyhoo...
These stories are works of parody (& thus are allowable under US law), and are not written for profit. Just for fun. I'm not making any money off of any fanfics, nor will I ever. I'm just playing around in other writers' universes.
...I am, however, making something of a living off my own stories. (If anyone wants to play around in my universes, you may visit my website, www.jeanjohnson.net, and look up my policy on Fanfics & Fanarts. It's reasonable enough and fairly easy to follow, too...)

I've never blushed so hard!!!!You are a perfect writer when it comes to these stories.. You have "Ronald" nailed on the head, Mrs. Weasley, and all the rest that you ever write about or of.. Its literally perfect. Every twist and turn makes sence.. Every word uttered, not matter who it is by, is priceless. You send your readers, or at least me, threw 5-10 different emotions with every chapter.. I am deeply starting to become one of your biggest fans.. And I shall never regret a word that I read, or a thought that inspires me, or when night falls and I sleep in this hosptial bed, faliing within darkness of thoughts of the perfect man.. Severus Snape.. And I do have you to thank for that.. So if you ever for once moment think you aren't one of the best writers in the world.. Save this review, for I will tell you and whomever else ever reads this.. You are one of the best, I have ever read.. And I did editing and so many other things for books and the sort for a living, so I have seen a lot.. And you sure know how to bring charactor's to life.. Rather they are yours or not!... Much respects and Hugs, Julianna

*blushes, curtsies* I'm glad I can entertain you while you're in hospital care. I've never been so bored as when I was stuck in a hospital myself...especially as they kept moving the phone out of my reach, so I couldn't call out, and I couldn't answer the *expletive* thing when it did ring. (It is very difficult to get out of bed right after abdominal surgery.)...If I had to go back into the hospital today (and could afford it), I'd prolly kill any nurse who separated me from my laptop. Of course, when I was in that time, they didn't have laptops with internet access (12+ years ago), so I'm very glad you have access to yours!~Lotm
Tis been a few days.. Sorry! Lol.. But of course I couldn't stay away for long.. prefect chapter my love! I actually really enjoyed this one!
Response from ladyofthemasque (Author of In Annulo)
Considering you've reviewed darn near every chapter, as far as I can tell...! Yeah, I'll forgive you. Glad you're having fun,~Lotm
The true trio lol.
Wow... That was a really long chapter lol. And believe it or not parts were actually har5d for me to follow.. I started reading this back at the R.S and abondoned it once I saw "For Someone Special" but I'm back and trying to get into terms with what is going on! Jules

It's a very long and intense storyline, just to warn you. Lots of stuff will be happening in the background, with very subtle cues that don't get explained until much later. But many have deeply enjoyed the story despite its length and the complexity of the plots. Just take your time; it's not going anywhere. Each of the chapters is quite long, and the first few might seem a little slow, but they do build to a heck of a climax near the end of the story. (And just to warn you, there's only a little bit of smut between here and chapter 9 & 10, when things start to heat up considerably.) A slow build, but consider it like taking a few hours to stack up a whole bunch of logs for a huge bonfire; the effort should be worth it in the end.Hugs,~Lotm
This was fantastically written.
This is certainly one of my all-time favorite Severus/Hermione stories. (Though a couple of my other favorites also belong to you!)
FSS seem to have had more, um, creative inspiration in some areas, yet I thought IA's plot was tighter and more cohesive. Towards the end of FSS I found myself skimming chapters (and, in rereads, skipping them altogether). In IA, that didn't happen.
Perhaps what I'm trying to say is that in FSS there was a lot of expository/background information that I didn't always think was necessary? But IA's was just right.
Additionally, IA seemed less Severus/Hermione-centric than FSS, which was an interesting difference. Now, I'm not sure, and maybe just as high a percentage of word count was S/H only. However, the post-HBP plot seemed to at least draw in the other characters to a higher degree.
Lovely, as always, just lovely. (This is where I confess that I've reread IA in full at least once and in sections several other times, and am just now getting around to reviewing, because I'm a putz.) I always look forward to new work from you, and can't wait for the books to come out!

Response from ladyofthemasque (Author of In Annulo)
It was indeed far more tightly plotted, and it did involve the other characters a lot more than FSS--I put about as much plot into IA as I did into FSS, but with a higher octane fuel additive to make the engine race faster. FSS was an experiment; IA was an attempt at getting a fanfic as close to canon as possible...without losing any opportunities for yummy smut scenes...~Lotm(can't wait for the books to come out, myself!)
Brilliant! Absolutely BRILLIANT! The whole story was excellent and I can truthfully say that it is my favorite completed SS/HG fanfic I've read as of yet.
The plot was both wonderfully drawn out and intricate enough to hold my attention and curiosity. I was very impressed with how it all wove together to make one big picture.
As for its form, I am even further impressed. Everything was convincing and made me feel as if it went perfectly well with the series of HP books. Aside from the fact that it wasn't written from Harrys point of view of course, it was highly believable and I cannot stress how much I enjoyed reading it!
The ending was excellent as well! The last full chapter tied up all the loose ends, explained everything I was dying to know, and satisfied my sense of justice. Add to that the epilogue, which gave me "closure" in a sense, to find out that Severus and Hermione did in fact live "Happily Ever After" (and that Severus is a grandaddy!) along with Harry, Ron and Draco even just made my night.
I thank you, for creating this exceptional piece of fiction and I look forward to reading some of your others.

LotM, bloody BRILLIANT, like almost all of your other pieces are.
Carefully thought out, snarkily sweet, beautifully written... I'm finding it quite hard to believe that Sigurd, is, infact, NOT a canon character.
You are, madam, the most powerful witch when it comes to conjuring words.

*blushes at the compliment to Sigurd* Thank you--such high praise! Alas, I am not a witch. I'm a professional writer--(squee, I get to say that, now!!)--which, as everyone knows, is a much more dangerous breed, teehee!Hugs,~Lotm
Wow, Wow, Wow!! What a fantastic story! I just spent the past 3 days reading this story and I have to say it is one of the best Harry Potter fanfics I have read by far. I couldn't stop reading once I started, just like with the Harry Potter books. I'm just blown away at how great this story is. I will definitely be reading the rest of your fanfiction. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story!

*Cries* That has to be the best weekend i've spent reading ever. Love the ending and i got all teary when old Albus passed on. Have to say though, Snape plus Veritaserum is hysterical. Had my sides aching. Thank you, i thouroughly enjoyed reading this. Lux.
Response from ladyofthemasque (Author of In Annulo)
Be verrrry careful when reading 'Frogs in Winter'. You think Snape-plus-Veritaserum is funny in this fanfic? I pulled three muscles in my ribcage just writing FIW! (It's also significantly shorter, but quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever written.)Enjoy!~Lotm
Wonderful, just wonderful!!You are a fabulous writer, I've read all your other HG/SS stories and I think this one was even better than FSS (which is really saying something). Can't wait for the next one. Many thanks, Jen
Response from ladyofthemasque (Author of In Annulo)
Thank you! That's a wonderful compliment--I feel like I put more effort into IA than FSS, in an odd sort of way. FSS was longer, yes, but IA is more plot-condensed and intensive--I literally had a stack of 47 sticky-note scribbled plot-notes at one point, trying to keep everything in the correct chronological order.Hugs,~Lotm
you are a genius above all. the plot, the character developments, the story...wow. you are my new heroine! you are amazingly talented, its...magical! i dont think words can descibe the work you have done. my only sadness is that i can only rate up to 5 stars, because your work deserves so much more than that.

*purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs, blushes, purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs some more...admires shiny stars*Thanks, Togspled. Hugs!~Lotm
So...this story came up on wikkit discussion of sorts... and I'd never read it, so I thought I'd nip right on over- and 3 days later- fantastic! I loved it. It was very much like a book seven, only including ss/hg, so everything I wanted in one place! I loved the storyline- it was well done with some great angst and even a bit of humor that found me both grinning at my laptop, and laughting out loud several times. Harry and Ron were wonderful, just the way I hope they'll evolve in book 7. I will admit I skimmed over a bit of the "erotica", its just not my thing (*blushes* I know I'm a bit prudish), but from what I read in the beginning it seemed tastefully done. Your writing is excellent, I love that you kept it all in Hermiones perspective. It is often more difficult to do it that way, so it seems to me that many writers shortcut it, but it forces you to develop your characters and their interactions better so that the reader can pick up the emotions of peripheral characters and I think that adds to the story. I think you did a fantastic job with it. Its definatly one of my favorites and I will rec it time and time again! Excellent job- you should be proud. Lucia
Response from ladyofthemasque (Author of In Annulo)
Thank you, Lucia. And thank you for noticing the perspective was entirely Hermione's! That was a conscious choice I made...and yes, it is a harder way to write a story, rather than the usual third-person-omniscient wherein you get to see several different characters' thoughts and perspectives. When I first started writing fanfics (ages and ages ago, long before I even learned the term 'fanfic'), I realized I could use them as a self-teaching tool. For one, I could teach myself to try to copy the language and style of a particular writer, and for another, I could teach myself how to get into the characters' heads so that their reactions come across as true-to-canon...which is a great way to learn character development and consistency. Including in how they express themselves. For instance, Snape is the sort who doesn't use contractions very often when he speaks (i.e., he does not use contractions very often when he speaks).By confining the story to a specific character's point of view, you actually miss a lot of the action that takes place elsewhere...which forces the writer to get creative in 'dropping hints' as to what's happening elsewhere. One of the biggest unwritten rules in writing is the anti-deux-ex-machina clause--no springing a "sudden savior at the very end" on your audience. (Deus ex machina means 'machination/manipulation of God, more or less--you know, like the first season of Star Trek: Original Series, where the powerful aliens would swoop in at the end of the episode, say "There's hope for you Earthlings, yet!" and save the day.)The rule basically states that, if you have a major (or even medium-sized) plot development or character action at the end of the book, you HAVE to suggest, hint, or otherwise set it up at the beginning or somewhere on the beginning side of the middle, and NOT at the last minute. In For Someone Special (aka FSS), I had to make sure the DADA professor, Kathleen Frejne, was mentioned early on (I believe she made her first appearance in chapter 37), in order for the readers to know who she was later during the later chapters, especially chapter 124. This prevents the reader from doing a whiplash doubletake, "--What the...? Where did she come from?" since she ended up having a major role in that particular part of the story. By inroducing that character earlier in the novel, the readers aren't blindsided by her involvement. (And, I should point out, FSS was itself written entirely in either Hermione or Snape's viewpoint, and no one else's.)By forcing the perspective into a single character's viewpoint, the challenge then becomes even harder for the author, for you have to drop enough hints into what the character sees so that the reader isn't totally blindsided by a sudden development later on in the story...even if you want the character to be blindsided by that same development. Of course, some stuff the main character just cannot experience directly, even in hints, so the use of 'post-event revelations' becomes a tool for the author to use--Snape explained a lot of his actions after the fact in chapter 17, when he explained how he originally planned to use the ring to lure Hermione into trusting him, and how Voldiebutt knew about the ring's existence (though not its veritaserum-quenched properties) and his plan more or less from the start of its use, and so forth. It was very hard to stick strictly to Hermione's perspective; there were several times I wanted to use Severus', and even Ron's and Harry's, but I refrained. Harry's perspective is simply too canon, Ron's perspective would be too biased, and if I'd used Severus' perspective, it would've spoiled several surprises and mysteries. That's the other reason for limiting a point-of-view when writing; if you show all, there's nothing to spring on your readers that they aren't already braced against!...Heheh, betcha didn't expect such a lengthy reply, did you? *grins* You pushed one of my (positive) buttons! I love the craft of writing, and to me, it is a craft. It has many different tools with which to get a job done...and the tools you do or don't select have an important impact on the appearance and appeal of the final product. To me, writing is like woodcarving: you can refine your techniques, sand away the splinters, plane smooth the rough edges, join passages and plotlines with dovetails and finishing nails and polish it to a satiny sheen... Art is a bit more freeform, in my mind. When you paint something, you're able to change radically from one style to the next with ease, with very little restrictions. When you do woodworking, you have a lot more restrictions in the type of wood selected, the functionality of the finished product...Yup, waxing poetic. I love writing; it is my bliss, my reason for existence. And I am proud of IA. It has its flaws, but it also has its strengths. I'm very glad I could give you so much pleasure with what I crafted when I wrote it!Hugs,~Lotm
I finished this before the Easter holidays, but RL didn’t give me real time to review here.
It was fascinating to read how you got Hermione and Severus together again, how Hermione came around her prejudices and all her struggles, internal and external. The girl talk with Tonks was hilarious, and wise. And last but not least: the wonderful lemons! Your are quite genial with that. Generally your Severus is intriguing, because he isn’t always wallowing in guiltiness and I-don´t-deserve-hapiness, he has his own agenda with Hermione and lives his feelings for her! I liked it a lot that they were kissing so much. I think that put across more of their attraction to one another than any hot smut.
The final battle was absolutely terrific. As well as the course to it, with all the dealing with the Horcruxes. Very imaginative, and imaginable. I wonder if JKR will come up with something as exciting.
As I said, the Last Battle was terrific written. But that was n o t h i n g against the trial – I couldn’t take my eyes one single moment from the screen, hushing my husband and my children out of the room, when they wanted to say anything irrelevantly to me – they can be so annoying! (So much for one or two chaps a day, lol). Fantastic chapters. Most intriguing! DD jumping out of the frame – marvellous, that he came to life again.
Nethertheless I thought it clever from you that he was already dying from the other Horcruxes, and no one could be charged for his dead. It gave all a more realistic touch, not so fairy-tale, that he really died, surrounded by “his family”.
Thanks a lot for the wonderful time you gave me with this story.

. And thank you for such a wonderfully detailed review! The scenes revolving around Hermione's angst were very important to get just right; Severus had betrayed her with his lies and deceptions, yes, but it wasn't the betrayal she initially accused it of being. And the "love advice" from Tonks...I had fun writing that scene. It just seemed to fit that Nymphadora Tonks was the one who could say all of that so bluntly yet casually and get away with it.Kissing...well, I miss kissing, myself. I had just come out of a three-year relationship wherein the fellow neglected his dental hygiene, and so we stopped kissing...and I missed it. Frankly, it is an intimate thing to do. Too many people rush through it time and again, when it can be quite fulfilling as an appetizer. Almost a main course all on its own.The final battle...oy! I had a stack of 47 sticky-notes to guide me into and through that one. From the brewing of the Anima Te to the moment where Sigurd Ports Severus away, it was very intensely plotted. The trial...wasn't as meticulously planned. I had about a dozen key points I wanted to make, but the rest of it just flowed from the heart, ya know?As for Albus' condition...well, it just makes sense. The way he consistently avoided telling Harry about his injured hand, and why it hadn't been healed by anyone. The part where he looks so terrible after drinking the brew in the cave, and R.A.B.'s comment in the note about how he doesn't think he'll live for very much longer, intimating that he's essentially marked for death.I also really wanted to skim close to canon with this one; whatever happens, I honestly think that Dumbledore will definitely be dead by the end of book 7, even if JKR brings him back to life at least for a little while through some trick or ruse. After all, the first book has that wonderful bit of foreshadowing that Dumbledore isn't afraid of death; to the organized mind, it's just like going to bed at the end of a long and tiring day. Death is very much a part of life...and that's the way I want to go. Not necessarily surrounded by my friends at a party, but with friends and loved ones in my life, and a peaceful passage when the moment itself comes. The most important scene in the whole story, I think, comes during the trial. In book 7, if it turns out anything even vaguely like my version, I honestly believe the wizarding world will still be hypocritical towards Severus Snape, regardless of how much his actions and bravery and cunning as a spy turned out to be monumentally helpful in the war-effort. And I can see Snape--under the influence of Veritaserum at his trial--exposing, deriding, and decrying the hypocrisy of those who would condemn him, even as they enjoyed the freedoms he had helped wrestle from the jaws of the war. He's a very passionate character, with a lot of potential locked up inside of him. I love writing him.Hermione is fun, too, in her own way; she has her own passions, and they do run high; she just doesn't have the life-experience to temper her beliefs into feasibility. (For example, her insistence on S.P.E.W. despite the majority of house-elves' own beliefs to the contrary.) That's why I took the time to show the agony she went through after chapter 17. It allowed me to forge her character from impetuous, idealistic youth into cautious, thoughtful adult.I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I hope the others I've posted are equally enjoyable...if much, much faster to read!Hugs,~Lotm
Ye gods. This story is driving me out of my mind. I love that. At the same time its been very detrimental to my school work. Anyway this is a, I'm crazed with the intensity and have to take a short break, review.

lotm, I just want to thank you so much for this story which I think is fabulous, imaginative and very well written. The smut is delicious and some of your humor makes me laugh until I get tears in my eyes and can't see the screen. I also particularly admire your inspired handling of the horcrux storyline. I've also read and really liked several of your other stories particularly "An Army of Snapes" on Ashwinder and "For Someone Special" on RS.org so I'm definitely qualified as an lotm-fan IMO. I should also thank you for enticing me out of Ashwinder to discover these other archives. BTW, what do you feed rabid plot bunnies: salad, liquor, PB&J, chocolate mousse, or what? Here's hoping they're well-fed, happy & keeping you hopping busy. Salud! ~

Wow..Wow...This was brilliant and you made me cry...You actually made tears roll from my eyes and sniffle! And it was all because of Dumbledore dying! But wow...I think I should be put in Azkaban for three months for not reading this sooner. That should be a suitable punishment.Mark and Spencer is a fantastic store in London, they sell the most comfortable bras in the world, I do hope they start doing over seas shipping :)

*hands you a box of tissues* Well, I don't know about a stint in Azkaban; the prisoners get the joy sucked out of them, so they don't get to enjoy my writing nearly enough.
