Seven years after the final battle: Severus is neither here nor there - and is apparently unwanted, dead or alive, until a small black kitten pins his cloak to a cobblestone. Hermione learns that now and then life rests on the flip of a friendly coin. Does love have the power to cancel time? Only the cats know for sure, and they can't talk.

Reviews for In Spirit
This chapter has left me breathless. I'd been sitting on the edge of my seat trying to see into their future, and then all of a sudden their eyes met, and in the next moment, Hermione was hurtling through time.
I imagine that Hermione will wake up now and that Mimi will come back to the flat. And then I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Brewing, perhaps?
Thank you for this wonderful chapter, and I'm dying to read the next one.
Beth
These two passages really stood out to me. Perhaps I'm reading too much into what you wrote, but it seems to me that Trelawney was telling Severus he needed to be honest with himself about what he wanted:
"...Use your eyes, Severus. Question, and keep your questions simple." Professor Snape said nothing. "The more honestly you look, the more you may see."
And Hermione was telling him that whether he lived or died was his choice to make:
"Very well, Miss Granger," he said wearily. "As however old you really are, you still prefer parroting answers to actual comprehension, do I live?"
She suddenly wanted to smack him, or at least shake him soundly, but she managed to reply quite calmly, "I don't know."
HOPE FLOATS...
Great chapter! Thanks.

Wow, you really know how to spin a tale! Loved everything about it. Their discussion, Severus in the present and his reactions, Hermione hurtling through time--oh right now? Good grief!!--and the cat.
I love your story!!
I hate you. I never EVER get into an unfinished work... And now look at this. I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, reading this at work, instead of doing homework, instead of working on a group project... And I get to this chapter, and there's nothing after. Please please please keep writing. It may be too late to stop the inner-Snape when working with this group (honestly, grad students!), but...
Thank you SO much for updating. This is one of my favorite WIPs that I follow. And you're one of my favorite authors. I re-read the whole story after you posted the previous chapter so I could get the most out of the new chapter. I'm really looking forward to more.
Oh, I am so glad that Severus managed to find Mimi! And I am still completely confused as to how this will turn out, and I eagerly wait for the next update. This story is absolutely brilliant!
Oh my. What a way to leave it! A fascinating story. I love the complexity of this time tavel tale. And you do the parallel conversations so well. I love hearing what the present day Severus is thinking as his memories change.
Keep up the good work. I'll keep anxiously reading.
I love your story. Thank you for sharing your talent for writing
Thank You! I've awaited this update with hope and longing, and now I have been rewarded for my patience by a clue-filled new chapter. I want to know what each of them is thinking and thinking about doing, and I can't thank you enough for this update!
Well done, m'dear. It's one of my favorite stories.

Oh... more more more!!! I'm dying for more! I love everything about this story! Please type fast! ;) the conversations passed between the cats... priceless!
So glad for the truly excellent update! Can hardly wait fofr the next!
I don't know how to begin telling you how ecstatically thrilled I am to find a new chapter of this, my favorite story. (My mental music is a glorious repetition of the Hallelujah Chorus.) Several months ago I reread the whole story from the beginning with the delusional hope I would find a new chapter when I got to the end. It didn't happen that qucikly but I suspect receiving this new chapter may presage a new superstition. Regardless I may read the whole story again to celebrate.
I'm wondering how Mimi is going to get back from the Potters. Will she and Crooks get along? Will she be stuck there until Hermione returns? Will communication be interrupted? Or will that be immaterial because Trelawny handed them the key? I hope you are as enthused about providing the answers as I am to learn them. I'm so happy you're back!
I am so glad to see you've updated. I've missed this story. Here's hoping your muse remains with you, and that your life will allow for the pursuit of completing more chapters. Great job!
Just discovered this story. It's so original. I love it and can't wait to read what else you have in store. Thanks!

I love this story. Like you, I have had writer's block for a long time, even longer than you. So glad you are back at it. And this is so intriguing - she doesn't know if Snape lives or dies because he is inbetween in her present. I have high hopes that she can somehow bring him back to the material plane. I'll keep reading, even if the chapters are long in coming.

Thanks, Clay - your review means so much to me. Career/home/family/other things were very important and center stage for a while; it feels _great_ to be writing again.Glad you're still liking the story! The next chapter needs a few more hours' work and should hopefully post sometime this weekend. :)Cheers, and thank you...~ Ari

Should look in ebay for some bunnies for you? Would love to have a conclusion on your lovely tale.. Please????
Please, please, please come back to this story! I've re-read it several times because it's so good and it deserves an ending!
Have you abandoned us? So sad.
I've only just checked this story again and you posted a new chapter a month ago. Yah so very happy to see that your still here. Please keep them coming when you can. I love this story.

Oh, it was such a relief for Severus to Floo Demetrios - but oh my GOD, Hermione challenged him! Got in his face! As respectfully as she could, of course, but it took such courage and determination on her part. Liked what Demetios said about how the conversation "didn't happen" - gives me some hope that it will all come out all right in the end ...
Even though I'm not speaking to you because of this AGONZING SEPARATION, I really must say that you evoke such a powerful feeling of Severus. You manage to bring his very presence into being.
Your love for him shines forth.
