Seven years after the final battle: Severus is neither here nor there - and is apparently unwanted, dead or alive, until a small black kitten pins his cloak to a cobblestone. Hermione learns that now and then life rests on the flip of a friendly coin. Does love have the power to cancel time? Only the cats know for sure, and they can't talk.

Reviews for In Spirit
Man, that group from California sounds like a nightmare. Certainly not like any members of wizard kind I would associate with. I'm loving this, Ari!
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
Certainly not. *sniffs* Tequila. Can you imagine? I ask you!*laughs* Glad you're enjoying,

... having a wicked time writing it...*waves*~ Ari
Ah, cats... a wonder beyond all we do here. No wonder the Egyptians worshiped them: zero to dignified in .06. I look forward to Severus's adventures with the kitten.

... I wonder what that kitten will get up to next... *goes back to writing next chapter*Cheers!~ Ari
Love the concept of the coin!
Mimi had spent the better part of the night in his lap, save for a thoroughly baffling episode at around three in the morning, when she’d leapt up quite suddenly and rushed about after no object he could discern.
Wondering what the kitten imagined she was chasing had provided a brief but welcome distraction from whatever it was he’d spent the night trying not to think about.
Yup, continuing on with no experience with cats...
I wonder if stripping is discussed as a viable method in Subtle Slytherins and How to Stymie Them. It certainly seems to work quite effectively on ghost-Severus. Which I'm not sure he is at all, because surely a ghost wouldn't need someone to open the door? Or is it some kind of permission thing? The name Mimi definitely fits for the kitty, I loved that. Severus just doesn't get it, lol.I'm definitely loving this story, can't wait for more!
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
Thank you so much! What Severus is or isn't is certainly a matter for speculation, isn't it? As for Hermione's little strip-tease, there - complete with work-related rant - if it's not in SS&HtST, I think she'll have to write an updated edition... *grins*Cheers!~ Ari
Now, I know I've seen this somewhere...I have to say, I loved your listing of what Severus has done these last seven years. Typical of him. And I love the kitty already.

Hi
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
:) The first chapter's been posted on OWL for ages; I forgot to post it here. Whoops! Anyway, spending the weekend catching the story up so I don't leave readers on any site hanging - and starting to write the next chapter. Thanks for the review!Cheers,~ Ari
Oh, yay! Another story to look forward to reading! This is an absolutely captivating beginning - look forward to updates. :)

Thanks millions,

! Glad you found chapter 2 on OWL... all caught up on both sites now, and working on chapter 3... Cheers!~ Ari
Very interesting, but is Severus a true ghost? No portrait and only a kitten can sense his presence? Something isn't right...
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
*laughs happily* Is Severus a true ghost. *says nothing* Something isn't right at all, at all... *grins*Thanks for your review, as always!~ Ari
Hmm... is that kitten, by any chance, a Kneazle? Just curious. What an unusual predicament Severus finds himself in. If he was truly just a ghost, then Minerva and other witches and wizards should have been able to see him, just like they see Nearly Headless Nick and the Bloody Baron. Odd, that they evidently can't. A most intriguing beginning, I'm definitely hooked!
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
*waves again* Answering out of order, here... A very unusual predicament, indeed... The kitten question I will *gasp* answer. The kitten is not, in fact, a Kneazle. Just a kitten. I'll let you in on a secret: black domestic mixed-breed shorthair. So glad you like the story so far!*waves*~ Ari
a very interesting start. You tell it is a romance and it is not Ron by the sound of it so I take it that Severus will find a way to communikate and go back to life? Waiting for an update. Well written, veru funny too
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
Thank you so much! Yep, the story will (eventually) be SS/HG romance. Working on chapter 3 now...*waves*~ Ari
*grins*Soooooo glad you're posting it here!

*flourishes quill* *bows* A joy to be here, as always!~ Ari
Yay you're back! I love this story! And Mimi, where'd she go! *cries*
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
Thank you! :) You'll find out where Mimi went in the next chapter, which is already half-written. Don't worry - I know where she is. ;)Cheers,~ Ari

I love this story. Hate the infrequent updates, but love the story. I kind of wish "todays" Severus would have gone WITH Mimi and seen where they end up. I don't know if that would have worked necessarily, but! And Demetrios hasn't been seen for a while. I wonder if he'll return. He always had such good advice. Vague, but good advice. Are we getting any closer to keeping Hermione and Mimi around at the same time???
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
I hate the infrequent updates too. :) Thank you so much for reading anyway... I'm hopeful that the updates can now resume with something more like frequency. Having Mimi crying at one from the far corners of one's mind for two years has been so disappointing here... You will find out where Mimi went in the next chapter (it's already half-written); Demetrios will return soonishly; we are getting closer to getting Hermione back to where she belongs, time-wise... for now... *clamps hands over mouth and says no more*Thank you for your review!~ Ari

I love this story, but, I hate abandoned fics. Please finish this story or at least rate it as abandoned.I'd have loved to hear about Mimi, and what happened to Severus and Hermione - but alas it seems not to be.
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
Not abandoned, just on hiatus while I'm on the last two of several RL publication deadlines. Thanks for reading! ~ Ari

I've just found your story, and it was great to have 28 chapters to read...now I'm stuck with having to wait for updates...it's not fair. This story is wonderful and has so many fun elements, the interactions are spot on and I love the progression. Looking forward to the next update!
I do so hope that you haven't abandoned this story, it's so good and has so many wonderful twists and turns, it would be a pity if it was never finished.
But she doesn't know pine changed to peony - why peony? And, perhaps a double entendre for pine?
Pine - woe, torment, pain, languish
Peony -"One legend has it that the peony is named after Paeon, a physician to the gods, who received the flower on Mount Olympus from the mother of Apollo. And another tells the story of that same physician who was “saved” from the fate of dying as other mortals by being turned into a peony....peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.
More Google.
And alas, I have caught up. It's a good thing your schedule is opening up considerably.
When he's dying and says "look at me" is he talking to Hermione?
I can't believe you had me look up Descartes' Rule of Signs.
Actually, yes I can.
u b ebil.
In the future - future, does Albus Severus flip the coin? Is that why Crooks is with him?
You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.
Just reading.
There will be no talk here of Bette Midler, Swedish botanists, Pink Floyd, Kipling, wind-up toys or Foeniculum vulgare. And, definitely nothing about nights in white satin or Celtic Woman.
Nope.
Just reading.
So are you hinting that Severus KNEW Hermione was 'older' than she actually was - for periods of time? So that some of the 'old' memories that he has are actually memories she's creating at present?
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
Severus-in-the-Past knows there's something "off," but he doesn't know what; Severus-in-the-Present's memories are doubling - so Hermione-stuck-in-her-Teenaged-Self is creating the second set of memories, yes. Poor Severus-in-the-Present :)Thanks for your review! (And I'm glad you're enjoying most of Demetrios's music choices ;)~ Ari
