Seven years after the final battle: Severus is neither here nor there - and is apparently unwanted, dead or alive, until a small black kitten pins his cloak to a cobblestone. Hermione learns that now and then life rests on the flip of a friendly coin. Does love have the power to cancel time? Only the cats know for sure, and they can't talk.

Reviews for In Spirit
OK, let me get this straight: Severus isn't quite dead. But he's not exactly alive either. And somehow he failed to make a choice between life and death, which is what consigned him to this current state. I don't envy Hermione having to explain that intriguing bit of information to the semi-dead invisible Slytherin Prince of Snark.Yikes.

*waves* Almost. He didn't choose between staying (as a ghost) and not staying - just dying. Not quite a life and death choice, but close. :)Yes, she definitely has a challenge facing her!*waves sleepily*Thank you, as always!~ Ari
LOL. She thought it was Ron all along. Too funny, but not for Severus. Ah, to be compared to that witless wonder.
Oh my gosh! How did she know it was him???????
Awesomely awesome chapter. He's quite the master of intimidation, but it seems to have fallen flat on Herms. Go, Herms, go!
I hope she has a good explanation for not 'recognizing' his message to her.
Ah-hah... BUSTED!!!
So Hermione seems to have figured out that Severus has decided to become her personal Poltergeist. But what can she do about it? They definitely need to have a little chat about what Severus assumes has happened and he needs to hear Hermione's side of things.
Of course, that is assuming that Severus is prepared to set aside his assumptions and actually listen to what she has to say. I imagine that, at some point, Severus has attempted to talk... Well, if nothing else, I imagine he can use Hermione's Typo-Bits to get his points across.
But for that delightful discussion, poor little Mimi might want to find a nice cozy place to hide... at least, 'til the worst is over.
How very interesting. So the final bubble smelled like loss. Perhaps she found his note, followed his instructions to the letter, and has regretted her failure to save him all of these years.
Oooh! This story is awesome. I can't wait to read what happens next.
So loving this story! Severus is so busted lol
You can not comprehend how much I love this story and all your writing. Your stuff is brilliant and funny and so well written I just love it.
Interesting ward on the jewelry box. He almost had it!
I'm loving the characterization of everyone, especially the ghost of Demetrios! He's a real hoot, and I hope we see a lot more of him in future chapters...
With all of the irritating things suddenly going on in her apartment, I wonder if Hermione will decide that she's acquired a poltergeist or something and start taking steps? Actually, she'll probably blame some of the things on Mimi and her kittenish enthusiasm--poor Mimi!
I haven't eaten Alpha Bits in years, and now I'm suddenly craving some. Drat the power of suggestion! Looking forward to the next chapter...
This story is fantastic... great descriptions of new magic and of course a bitter vengeful Snape. I LOVE Mimi of course and I will wait for more updates while eating cereal... regular one though, I know, pretty boring, but I will pretend! Thank you fro sharing.
Nice bit of history brought in. Interesting chapter, I wonder if Hermione realizes she isn't alone yet?
Ghosts have to blink? Do they also get (ahem) excited? Goodness!
Well, that was different. I'm not sure if I understand what is going on.

How so? :)

My head is muddled, I have a head cold and it made it difficult to follow along. I'll have to read this again when I feel better.

Aw, you poor thing... *sends Mimi to snuggle you and help you feel better* If I'm confusing you then let me know how... I really don't mean to (in this chapter, anyway).Feel better! C|_| <- steaming mug of tea, with no salt! I promise :)
Nice beginning! I'm hooked! Severus has a weak spot for the kitties.
It's LOLSnape! I'm so pleased.
Ohhhhhh... security breach, indeed. If Mimi can communicate with Hermione, then it's only a matter of time before "kitteh" alerts her to Severus' presence. BTW, Mimi and her kitteh-speak is so darn cute!
Speaking of Severus, I've been thinking on his situation... could it be that he really isn't a ghost at all, that something somehow healed his injuries, yet left him invisible? Well, invisible to people anyway, since Mimi can see him.
Another thing... to the best of my recollection, Hermione never actually touched the Sword of Gryffindor, that was mostly Harry, who fished the Sword out of the pond. And, of course, Neville, who used the Sword to kill Nagini. So there would have been no way for Hermione to discover Severus' hidden message, thus his current situation is hardly her fault.
But, once she finds out Severus is there and taking revenge for what he perceives as her failure to provide aid to him, I have a feeling he may be grateful for his continued invisibility... it'll make it a bit more difficult for her to hex him into next week! LOL
I am highly amused by the subtle "lolcatz" influence. very nice indeed.

Intriguing and fascinating, quite a beginning! I adore the kitten - it must be a reincarnation of my Smilla, apart from the eyes (hers are green) and the colour; she is black smoke (black on the outside with white skin) and has white marks. But she would absoultely react in this way and would without doubt be able to see Severus in whatever state he is in!
Severus's state is really fascinating. He can't be a "proper" ghost, now, can he, when obviously nobody can see him? I look forward to the solving of this riddle.

NO TIME TO REVIEW! MUST GET TO NEXT CHAPTER!
ooooooooook, this story has more turns, than the zig-zag railway! I'm enjoying this so much, I just hope I can keep up.
Perhaps his original plan will need some tweaking.

*grins* It may at that,

Mimi? LOL! I love Mimi! The "show" that Hermione gave Severus nearly overloaded his senses, and had me laughing out loud. I can only imagine how difficult it's going to be for him to be around her and not give up on his plans for Operation "Torment the Granger Chit." I'm looking forward to your next update. Thanks.Beth
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
*waves again* Hi, Beth :)Oh, our poor sort-of-maybe-ish-ghost!Potions master... what a show he received indeed, and here her hot water's set on "stun." *laughs**pats Mimi* Thanks for your review!~ Ari
A fabulous first chapter, Ari, and I was hooked. I've read a few of the reviews and your responses, and now I'm doubly hooked.Severus is a ghost who is not a ghost, and the kitten can see him but no one else can. And he is bent on taking his out his revenge on Hermione Granger, Know-It-All and all round bane of his existence. LOL! It's so funny that when he first woke up in the Shrieking Shack he was all "sweetness and light" thinking about the chit, but here he is seven years later, and he's out for revenge. I love it!I'm off to read chapter two.Beth
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
*grins* Hi, Beth :)So glad you enjoyed that first chapter, and the seven-year souring of Severus's mood... *laughs* Quite prickly, he is. Cheers!~ Ari
Cute, I can empathize with Severus though. My cat, Crookshanks is also a traitor. I feed, water and clean her litter and what does she do? She makes nice with my husband!
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of In Spirit)
*grins* Yes, well, Miss A, kittycat of Ari, is decidedly fond of Mr. Ari. She's good at being a two-parent kittycat, though, unlike the previous two - one all mine; one all his. Glad you're enjoying the story :)~ Ari
