Maleducado is right- I think this may be the best description of Snape I've ever heard, and it's just one word.  I'm deeply enjoying this still, especially because of the brief but spot-on descriptions that Rawa gives of Hogwarts.  Not too lengthy, but to the point.  Good commas, good adjectives, good story.

Whoa!  This is so cool so far.  I like the use of non-latinate roots and words for your spells, and the use of rainforest medicine.  I did a research paper on the use of Ayahuasca a few years ago after a trip to Ecuador- it was a fascinating project, and I was so psyched to see it show up right here, first page!  Though I rather expected her to see a snake instead of a condor, as the snake is one of the most common visions that comes with Ayahuasca.  But the snake has so much weight in the Potterverse, I can't blame you for avoiding it.  I can't predict whether I'll like the rest of the story right now, but I love the first chapter.

Hey! Still enjoying this story tremendously and wishing the chapters were longer, as I get all excited when I get the email that the story has been updated...and then it is over so quickly. But I forgive you!! I laughed outloud when Rawa referred to Draco as "güero," which works much better than "rubio." It has more impact for those of us who know the word. Very cool!! Oh and "Esnep"...reminds me of how part of my family in Puerto Rico pronounces their surname, which is German, with an E before the inital S. Also, I live in Miami so that is an everyday thing for me!! So true to life...

Hmmm interesting, the learning of defense without wands. I am enjoying the language, it adds a nice element of the exotic to the story. I just wish there was a way to assure to myself, my pronounciation is at least close. Is there a chance of adding it to the end of the chapters?

I have to confess to having read more of this story elsewhere and to not yet having reviewed.  Seeing it posted here, I decided to re-read these first chapters and just wanted you to know how wonderful I think they are.You have a powerful and descriptive way with words, almost poetical at times, and I really love the atmosphere you evoke in these beginning chapters, setting the scene for the whole story... I shall continue to read it as you update on this site.  Thanks for posting :-)

The inclusion of Spanish like this draws me into the setting so much more, I think.  For me, it would have been so difficult to do (a lot of research), but you do it with such ease.  I hear their accent in 'Jegrit' and 'Jaguars,' and it makes me smile.  I look forward to more, you can be assured, especially when Jegrit's life lies on the line like this.

Yo llevo años tambien pensando en temas que incluyan escuelas de hechizería en España, Italia, America Latina, en fin, en lugares un poco menos esperados. Pero no he completado ninguna de mis ideas hasta ahora.Tienes razon (no encuentro la o acentuada!!) en que hay frases que simplemente no se pueden traducir. Se pueden explicar y a veces ni siquiera eso. Ahora, yo soy de Puerto Rico y la lengua varía de todas maneras en cada país hispanohablante. Pero intentaré seguir la palabras y frases andeanas. Me encanta que uses "Soroche" como metáfora de los sentimientos de tu personaje principal. Yo creo que todos en la vida pasamos por una experiencia como esa, o por lo menos queremos sentirnos así al menos una vez en la vida.Espero que te mantengas animada con esta historia porque yo ya estoy intrigada!I am looking forward to reading more. Rather short and hard to rate, but it's daring to introduce new magic.

If my sources are correct, there is some controversy over whether it was the winners or losers that were sacrificed.  I could have used more continuity from the previous chapter.  Ron could have been tempted to say, 'Better being sacrificed than facing the common room after losing to Slytherin,' but decided he should think three or four times before voicing an opinion.
