Reviews for Caramel
Little do they know just how similar their feelings are for one another. And their taste in music, evidently! Dowland... now that's a blast from the past.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Did you ever sing Dowland? I have the Lachrimae on LP, but its an instrumental arrangement. I know there are vocal settings too.
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
No, I haven't had the pleasure of singing any Dowland, but I remember studying him in music history. I do enjoy that era and the ornamentation that can be done to pieces such as his and Purcell et al. Uh oh, I just got all geeky on you.
...brevity and exactitude in both your verbal and your written reports to me. If you cannot manage that, this arrangement will be short lived...AS IF!!! HA!he invites her to stay and work alongside -so to speak. exactly what he had appreaciated during the detention.Sevikins shows some manners. hey! Astounding! And tea solves so many problems.in an english-mans- or wizzards life.wonderful. he for her, she for him. perfect harmony.so he is back at work for Voldie. who is almost thrilled to hear that Snape has a Potter-friend around as a "slave".will end bad, I can smell it. they will make him take advantage of her or anyting, dunno.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
It is scary that LV knows SS is working with a Potter-friend. But it wasn't as though SS could keep that from him, since everybody at Hogwarts knows (which means the Malfoys know, etc.). And yes, tea is good. *smiles*
she goes for a run, he goes duelling in the morning. both to start the day with fresh ernergy.cool. hm. how come, Mylady Gryffinodore can disarm Mister Slytherin. hmhmhmscratch him from the wall. And that with his injuries. shame on you. But Minerva has a cunning plan..hehe. and he finally makes his decision. well done. then Hermione. the boys don't recognise her. Her being funny? what has happened here. Hey. Seamus, hands off!my money is on greenhouse one!!poor girl. she tries with her mantra to get through this conversation as smooth and easy as possible. And she does it really well. The revellation with the herb she got for him and which he needs so badly is such amazing news!! Wow.you are a true Hermione of Research, aren't you?But the word friend was a little cheeky. she cannot call herself his friend, can she?on the other hand, the effect it had on him, though she didn't get to feel any of it (yet), was worth it. and she got out of it very well. allies.they are working together trallala!! and going to see more of him. Weekly.she must be singing inwardly.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Hi! Good to see you there. Yes, Minerva is trouncing him, but he wouldn't want her to treat him gently just because he's hurt. And he'll get his own back when he's up to full strength! I did like the way Seamus came into this scene--cheeky boy, I like him! Great progress being made in their secret friendship (secret from each other): it does help to have more contact with each other. She managed it all quite well... :D
I am really enjoying your story! I like the slow and tentative way their "alliance", as you said, is developing - and all the funny parts are great too - tarts growing fondler and such...can't wait to read more!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Oh, thanks so much! What a nice review, and I am so glad you're enjoying the story, especially the funny parts. It can't all be angst. (Well, okay, it could, but I prefer a little lightness...) :D
I wonder if Hermione realizes that Severus is much more surprised and grateful than he would ever dream of letting on?
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
She doesn't. That's what's so frustrating and fascinating about this sort of thing. If each of them only knew how the other felt... Well, the story would be a lot shorter then. ;)
I have enjoyed your story so far. Have bookmarked it and as soon as I finish this add you as a favorite author. I was so caught up in the story that I forgot to make my husband supper. Thanks to you, I didn't want to cook anyway
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Yay, what an awesome review!!!! I just completely love it when I get so caught up in a story that I just.. have... to... read... the next chapter! Okay, it can be kind of disruptive, but fun. Sooooo glad that this story gave you that experience. *bounces*
The pace of their growing relationship is very slow, but little by little Severus is coming to associate many of the good things in his life with Hermione. I don't know if he even realizes that he is begining to make suggestions that insure she spends more and more of her time in his presence. And he is becoming more and more determined in his thoughts to protect and avenge any wrong that may befall her.Severus doesn't know it yet (or will not allow himself to think on it), but he is as besotted with Hermione as she is of him.*conjuring favourite Severus-in-the-bath scene* Beth
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
True, true, all true. I am very interested in his a) taking an interest in the pleasures of life, large and small and b) associating at least some of those pleasures with her. This softening is very very good for him as a person, very very bad for him as a spy.
Very good chapter, have been enjoying the story very much!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Oh, thank you! I'm a little behind on answering reviews, but so grateful to get 'em. I hope you continue to enjoy the story...
I really like this story you're weaving and the slow development of Snape and Hermione's relationship. It's the small things like leaving tea for him that paint such a picture of what good friends they are becoming. And I was amused at Severus' hedonistic display at the end - yes a pity we don't get a scene with him in that bath!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Hee! I figure most SS/HG shippers can fill in the "Severus in the bath" blanks quite nicely for themselves! Thanks very much for the kind review, and sorry it's taken me so long to answer. I'm really glad you are enjoying it; that makes it even more fun for me.
This slow progression in this relationship is lovely but I just wanted to say that I adore specifically how in character you're keeping Hermione. A lot of fanficcers will often make her more forward than I think Hermione would ever dream of being but I feel like the pace you've got going with her character in particular is really spot on. I love how awkward she feels and even though she thinks things with Snape can't really go anywhere she'll still take whatever she can get. Also I love that she made him tea and her letter was adorable in its subtlety ^^
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Aagh! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your completely lovely review. I am so glad you're enjoying the slow progression--it's what this story is about: how exactly do these two manage to fall in love when it's just about the worst timing imaginable. And very glad you feel I'm doing a good job with Hermione. She's such a hero, and I'm so fond of her. :D
I like the slow progression of their friendship. Although it is amusing when Hermione has been in her head too long and has missed a bit of the conversation or the next step in her potion. I was hoping Snape would have caught a glimpse of Fantasy Snape in her mind. That would perk him up, pun intended. So Lucius has taken a fancy to Hermione. Nothing good can come of that if he stays in favor. I never understood why Bella was so favored, except for her love of violence. She is insane. I wonder if Volde knows how she abuses Snape? Did he reveal what happen when Volde took a look at his thoughts or did Snape just reveal how ill he was?
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Lucius is just a plain old lecher. Fortunately he's in Azkaban at the moment, bleh. I think Bella's favoured for her extreme loyalty (and willingness to do anything). LV knew perfectly well what would happen when he had her 'escort' SS back to the gates of Hogwarts, and he knew how ill SS would be from that curse. He just didn't care, as long as SS didn't out and out die from it. thanks for your long juicy review! More chapters are in the hopper; look for the next one within the week. :D
Tea was a nice thought, especially after returning from where he'd been. He's really lucky to have her around. LOL.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
So true. He'll figure that out soon. :D
He won't admit it, but he likes her company. And what a wonderful thing for Hermione to do. I think he'll ponder on that for quite a while.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
She's such a good egg, isn't she? Definitely someone I'd want as a friend. Thanks for R&R!
Thank you for one of the nicest evenings I've spent in ages. Truly a mini vacation. I'm really looking forward to the rest.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Now THAT is music to my ears. You are welcome! I'm extremely glad you had such a lovely time reading this story! I just love that feeling of pleasurable escape. *happy sigh* I hope you enjoy the rest. :D
I wonder if Mr. Creevy is really in for trouble? I liked her magic spreadsheet. Leave it to Hermione to way overdo it. I'm glad she didn't get all snoopy and go through his things...that probably wouldn't go over well. Might have been a little bold to sign her note "yours" although she may have done it without giving it any thought. Whether he noticed that or not, he can't have missed the gesture with the tea. Go Hermione!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
In my mind, she did give the "yours" a thought (and the "dear professor"). Both could be read as neutral, but she was not at all neutral when she wrote them. She is being a good friend, isn't she? And as to Dennis...I dunno. I think it's just an anomaly of the formula, but if it ends up being useful as a plot device, I'll use it! thanks for R&R!
Can't wait for the next chapter! I like the slow development of the friendship between ss and hg. Some fanfics just dive right into intense declarations of love and it just doesn't work for me.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Me either! I really wanted to get at how, exactly, each of them might find themselves fond of the other, what with all the very real obstacles in the way. Anyway, more coming soon. Thanks for reading, and for letting me know what you think. :D
I like how Hermione signed it 'Yours' he didn't seem to catch on did he? Bless. Look forward to the next update.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
No, he didn't catch on. I think she put A LOT of thought into that little tiny note ('dear professor' indeed!). More updates coming soon; I think I'll queue the next one tomorrow. Thanks so much for R&R.
I like that she can make tea better than he can LOL! :)
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
I like it too--and I was surprised! You'd think he'd be the world's best tea brewer if he's a tea drinker, because so fastidious, but there you go. :D
She will wiggle her way into his heart. He already depends on her in so many ways that he isn't even aware of.Wonderful story. And I was tickled at your poem at the very beginning.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Indeed she will. *cackles* So glad you like the story (and the disclaimer, hehe!). Thanks again for letting me know.
Well written and engaging chapter. I wonder what Bella's muggles will be doing? You mentioned acrobats, so I'm wondering if they are circus performers and if so, what will the wizards think of them?
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
I'm thinking circus performers, doing their usual routines, but under duress and being harassed by death eaters as they work. A whole world of not-fun. But Bella would enjoy the novelty I think. Glad you enjoyed the chapter; thanks for letting me know!
Brilliant. I adore a bit of imaginary science in fics. And your excerpt is tantalising.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
*bounces* O, thank you. The diatom thing was fun to do!
That was lovely. And at least he's not a total idiot, he did decide to keep her around.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Thank you! Yes, if he didn't allow her in just a wee bit at a time, this story would go nowhere! At least he can see enough of her worth to be going on with...
Love the interactions between Severus and Hermione. A big 'wohooo'! to that he 'WANTS' her as his assistant.
Enjoying this very much.
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Yay for enjoyment! Now we are getting into chapters with lots of interaction between them, I hope the enjoyment will continue. Thanks for staying with the story. :)
As much as I love Severus Snape, he sometimes has the sensitivity of a teaspoon! And Hermione is, of course, brilliant!Love it!
Response from corianderpie (Author of Caramel)
Yes, how is it he is so lovable even with his bastard ways? He just is! I thought she was brilliant, too. Thanks for the review, so much. :D
