I am a grateful fan of Ms. Rowling and of her overwhelming Byronic Character, Severus Snape! Please check out the first chapters of each fic (except for "How Can I Tell You," which is on Chapter 2) to see pictures of the Heroines.
Admins' Note: Livvy6 died suddenly on February 22, 2012, leaving behind her husband, six-year-old daughter, and seventeen stories well-loved by the TPP community. All who knew her—including those in Harry Potter fandom and all of us, here—are richer for having known her.
Requiescat in pace, Livvy. Always.
Reviews for The Unforgiven
I think it's natural of her, and very in character, for Hermione to wish to have a well-stocked medicine chest. After all she's been through, a box of adheisive bandages and an ace banadge wouldn't cut it!
By the way, I want her house!OK i am won over by Hermione's providential meeting with Eugene. I love to think of what a witch could do to help a poor boy. make his coat warmer, for instance, as well as feed him and perhaps even confound the evil aunt and uncle sometimes. I think Harry should have a young person to help too. Helping others always helps yourself.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Contrary to a lot I've read in fandom, Hermione has a "mothering" instinct in her. She basically "mothered" Ron and Harry throughout their school years. Thanks :)
Being a parent of an only child, I always find it the idea of disowning your darling child to be incomprehensible. But everyone is different. I don't understand why people would do many of the things we read about in the news. I'm glad poor Hermione isn't destitute! maybe she can start up a House Elf Liberation front or a Muggleborn support network.Gosh! that was horrible. If any of your readers were in doubt that Hermione should leave Ron, I think you put that to rest!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Yeah, everyone felt the same: she should chuck him. LOL! But of course, Hermione has to be matched up with the man in black! Thanks ;)
oh what an insensitve bastard Ron was! I actually find that creepy. and rather sick-making. But I am merely stating my own personal reaction. I think Ron is way out of character, not that war doesn't change people. but that one part is very disturbing. It really seemed like rape to me, the way you described their first intercourse.the scene in the courtroom was wonderful. Harry is so messed up and Hermione, being so close to him and having a few months' experience with the Post-War Harry, manages to calm him down a bit, like he was a child.I think you've done such a great job painting a distraught Harry!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
War does change people and it can bring out things that were there all along. Ron's need to be accepted, his fear over Hermione not wanting him or think he wouldn't be good enough was more like a self-fulfilled prophecy.I'm glad you liked the emotionally and mentally unstable Harry. He's going to need a lot of time and care to get himself put back together. He just had so many weights on him for years and Snape's death was the final straw. Thanks for reviewing :)
Excellent beginning! You have a really good feel for this story. I am glad there is more to read right now.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Thanks! I hope you continue to enjoy it.
whoa! talk about two level conversation. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
The BIG Talk! I shudder to think when it comes my time. Thanks :)
Oooooh it's the birds & the bees talk. Those are always exciting and awkward. I loved how they handled it though. And the mud room scene...delicious! Thanks for the update, and I can't wait to see what happens next! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Much to go over in the next two chapters. More info on Severus' past and how they feel about one another. Thanks :)
I love this story so much. I just re-read it and fell in love with the way you've portayed Hermione and Severus' getting on after the war.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Thank you! I hope you continue to like it. THe next two chapters will be full of lots of good stuff! Thanks :)
poor sev! lol i wonder, if or when i ever have kids, how i'll be able to handle that! Knowing me, i'd just get them a book and say "knock yerselves out, kiddos!" and it would be just my luck they'd hit themselves over the head with the book rather than read it ~rolls eyes~very funny chapter!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
LOL! My mom gave me a book and then we had many discussions about it. She would get so mad at me if I didn't remember the names or if I forgot parts we had covered before. I thought sex was some kind of a chore for the longest time! I hope to be more like Hermione when the time comes to talk to my daughter. Thanks :)
Interesting talk, it is such a shame that children that young in our society needs to have this conversation.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
I know. It's a real shame, but what's a mom to do?Thanks :)
Severus in full teaching mode, but sex-ed this time.He put a lot of himself into his lecture; too much for the boy to comprehend, but I'm sure it stuck with Eugene how he should behave towards women.I also liked the discussion of poetry. Somehow what he said about Wordsworth's poetry mirrors his own feelings, methinks. He obviously needed time alone to puzzle his feelings for Hermione out.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
He's a jumble that has to be sorted out. He does love Hermione, but it isn't that simple. That will fully come out in a couple more chapters. Thanks :)
So, I'm guessing Severus believes Hermione wants to make a life with him? He's a little hard for me to read right now. He's a much better man for her than Ron and she will love him the way he deserves to be loved. Lol, I keep thinking, figure it out you two. Wonderful chapter, I enjoyed it.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
It will be covered in the next chapter about how they really feel. It will be an interesting discussion to say the least. Thanks :)
An amazing chapter! First of all, I am trilled that Severus finalyy has realised that he loves Hermione. Seccondly, the talk with Eugene was brilliant, very well written. Third; I am so looking forward for the next update!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Thank you! The next chapter will be very enlightening, and more will be talked about Severus' past with women. Thanks :)
Well, Severus took his time coming to the party but then he was in boots and all! :)
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
The next two chapters will be very interesting and we'll learn more about Severus' past with women. Thanks :)
Interesting talk with the youngun'. How funny that sometimes things like that occur when they're both thinking of it themselves. Very nice kiss and confession from Severus. Why didn't Hermione say anything? Is that making Severus have second thoughts? Severus' advice to Eugene was well thought out, and it really said something about himself. Not just the last part, the whole thing.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
He whispered it, so Hermione thought she imagined it. Then she doubted if he meant it in "that" way. The next chapter will have everything out in the open about how exactly they feel about each other. I'm glad you enjoyed the "talk".Thanks :)
Will we ever find out about Eugene's parentage? And does Snape, er, Mr Black, have the Mirror of Erised, or is he just barking?
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
It isn't the Mirroe of Erised, I don't know about barking, but he's not too far from it!No, Eugene's parentage will not be brought up. As far as he is concerned, Hermione is who he wants for his mum. Thanks :)
What a lovely chapter! Hermione's patient and understanding acknowledgment of Severus' need to have time to sort out his feelings was beautifully rewarded. When Severus came back from one of his solitary walks and put his arms around her and kissed her neck I wanted to cheer! His softly spoken "I love you," was the cherry on top! "This wizard would take his time to savor her, to taste her, and lure her desires from inside her." This is such a beautiful description of the man! *sigh*
The evening meal with Eugene was both endearing and fun. I thought Severus was going to fall off his chair when the boy asked if girls really liked it when boys put their penises inside them. LOL! After a few fits-and-starts Severus got his wits about him and was able to give Eugene the guidance he needed on how to treat a witch... and exactly what would happen if the young man did anything that he had been warned against.
It was a bittersweet moment when Severus told him that he should never have sex with a woman that he did not love and respect. "You should only have sex with a woman you love and respect, and who loves and respects you in return. Actually, you shouldn’t consider having sex with a woman until you know she wants to make a life with you,” interjected Severus as he lowered his head from view. “Then you won’t ever be hurt.” It made me wonder if Severus and Lily had ever had sex.
Thank you for this marvelous update.!Beth
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Yes, makes you wonder if they ever did the deed or not. That question will be answered definitively...soon.I'm glad you enjoyed the romantic interlude in the mudroom! Thanks :)
Wow, so much story in this chapter! I like the emergence of motherly!Hermione and Eugene intrigues me, as does his "Mr Black" *snorts with laughter*. Mr Black! LMAO!Thank you for the glossary of Cumbrian slang, and kudos to you for using it - it made the setting more realistic."She thought a lot about the past, about Harry, Ron, Hogwarts, all those who had died. Each time she brewed, she could hear Professor Snape’s cold voice in her head, telling the class how they should be cutting their ingredients. She realized he would always be a part of her, just as when she had to perform certain charms, she would hear the squeaky voice of Professor Flitwick, saying, 'Now, swish and flick!'"<-----awwww! Bittersweet!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
I couldn't resist with the "Mr. Black" name. It was begging to be used :) I worked hard to find a Cumbrian slang dictionary online. As the chapters go, Eugene will start to talk more like Hermione. She is going to be a marvelous example for him. Thanks:)
Why did you end the chapter there. I love this story. Please update soon. I hate cliffies. I laughed for a good five minutes with the penises comment. Good comic timing.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
I thought the time had arrived. Eugene is at that age and what does he know? There's a reason why Severus acted the way he did and will be explained in the next chapter. The next two chapters should be very interesting! Thanks :)
I suppose it's the thought that counts (and the tenderness conveyed was lovely), but in this context, Harry and Hermione kissing was just weird.Hermione's parents disowning her is awful for her but a completely understandable reaction. But holy inheritance, Batman! Now off to see what she does with it!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Yes, she is in high cotton for sure! I know a lot of reviewers thought it was strange with the kiss, but I couldn't shake it away. I felt so sad for Hermione, she really needed to leave knowing she wasn't defective or that what she wanted wasn't a pipe dream. But not everything will be everyone's cuppa. Thanks for reviewing :)
Methinks that Harry could use some psychotherapy...poor guy. And poor Hermione - I would like to think that Ron would not be so cruel. Thoughtless, maybe, but not like that! Ah well, we can agree to disagree here, as long as Ron is not killed off unnecessarily in some ridiculous accident as a means of freeing Hermione for an eventually alive Severus Snape...right?
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
I don't think Ron is "cruel", just selfish with the emotional range of a teaspoon! lol! But yes, we can agree to disagree on that front. There are bigger and better things to come.As for Harry, he does need help. He will get it in various types, but it will take time. Thanks :)
I think that this is a great telling of what might have happened immediately post-battle. I especially liked the realistic actions and reactions between the characters, and I am glad that someone thought to go after Snape. Harry's emotional strain, Hermione's fear, even Madam Pomfrey's shocked realization all rang true here, and I have not read many fanfic authors with such a talent for realism as exhibited here. Yay story!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Thank you! I wanted to grab the reader's attention right from the start and have them feel Harry's desperation and pain. I'm glad you liked it.Thanks :)
Oh, I feel for Severus and Hermione! The "facts of life" discussion is always an embarrassing one, for all parties... But at least Eugene knows he can come to them with embarrassing questions, and they won't turn him away or think less of him, which is probably the most important thing of all about these little talks!Love this story, and can't wait until the next chapter!
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
The next two chapters will be rather enlightening for Hermione and Severus. They have a lot to talk about now that the kitty is out of the bag! Thanks :)
Excellent advice! I might have to borrow some of it for my almost-11 year old :)
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
I'm tellin' ya! It's younger and younger these days. My three-year-old came home from preschool and told me she learned a new word. I asked her what it was, and she said, "sexy."I think I should stop asking her about how preschool goes until I get home and am out of the car...Thanks :)
Response from Gardengirl (Reviewer)
ROFL! What is a parent to do?!
hmmm, severus loves hermione... not sure how i feel about that yet but we'll see.oh lord - the sex talk...
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Yes, everyone's favorite topic. Hermione handled it well, but I think women do in most cases than men. Yes...the I love you will spark an interesting conversation in the next chapter. Thanks :)
Response from snapesphoenix (Reviewer)
hermione definitely handled it better - poor severus went a little too deep for an 11 yr old, i think. maybe i am naive, but do 11 year olds already think about sex? i must have been a late bloomer. i did learn about it when i was like 9 or something because my parents told me so i guess that would make sense - but i didn't understand it really til i was 13 or 14 when my classmates started talking about it. believe it or not, at 13 i actually thought a blow job was when a lady went to the salon and sat under that big hair dryer - lol. yup, i was definitely a late bloomer then. lord help us all, if 12 year olds start getting pregnant next.
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Oh yeah! In remember being in the 4th grade and the boys and girls were talking about the stuff they had caught their parents doing in bed...pretty graphic, too. And these were 9 and 10 year olds! Now, I'm in my thirties, but I am certain things have only gotten worse, sorry to say.
This is officially becoming one of my favourite stories!I can't wait for the next chapter. That scene with Severus wrapping his arms around her...Wow the imagery was just lovely.Nice work.A~
Response from livvy6 (Author of The Unforgiven)
Thanks! The next two chapters will be VERY interesting. They have loads to discuss. Hope you like itThanks:)
