That was great. I thought- "I wonder if she's going to take a drink from his bottle?" Man Snape has a lot of sexual frustration he needs to unleash. I liked how you had her kiss him where she slapped him. Whew!Great chapter!Livvy

Smashingly good chapter! I see I may have been wrong about Bertie being a Dark Lord wannabe... he is a dark lover wannabe, but he can't quite pull that off... not when Severus Snape is in residence! After all, everybody knows that Snape is Sex-on-Legs!I'm still not ready to completely abandon my theory of Bertie's affiliation with all the intrigue surrounding Professor Brukowski, Jagiellonian University, and Arglist Industries, but you've thrown enough marbles under my feet to make me pause and think of other possibilities. The destruction Severus visited on the Potions classroom after witnessing Bertie's attempted kissing of the object of his desire was nothing less than spectacular. And his powerful magical ability to put it all back together was pretty amazing to Hermione, as well.Their little "dust up" in the kitchen couldn't have ended better. He had been incredibly unkind in his comments to Hermione: “I had you in the dungeons, then Draco in the Tower, and now Bertram in the Library. Just find someone to fuck you on the third floor—that shouldn’t prove too difficult. Perhaps dear Neville…” And then she slapped be bejeesus out of him and walked away. But then Severus got his brain in gear and reached out to her, “Wait,” he pleaded. He reached his hand out to her arm, frowning when she flinched at his touch. “Please.”She did wait, and Severus was able to make his apology to her, admitting, “My logic seems to completely fail me where you’re concerned,” he admitted with obvious reluctance..... “You seem to elicit responses… wherein my reason abandons me and I act without regard to consequence.”And then she took a swig from his bottle of Firewiskey, kissed him on the cheek where she had slapped him, and went off to bed to think about all that had just happened. There had been a monumental shift in their relationship. "She was still pondering what other changes the future might hold for her and Snape when sleep finally claimed her, carrying her into a world where nothing made sense, yet everything was perfectly clear."Ab-so-freaking-lutely brilliant! I love it! Beth

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much, Beth!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter... it really was an important one as it showcased a turning point in their relationship. I think Hermione giving him the opportunity to apologize for the horrible thing he said will have quite an impact on him in the future, just as his admission of his logic and reason failing him will certainly give her a lot to think about. The next chapter has been sent in for final beta, so I'll be adding it to the queue soon... stay tuned! Thanks again for the amazing review and the nice rating; you're such a doll!!!

That was actually a little heartbreaking! I just love how this story is progressing, even if this chapter gave me a funny feeling in my chest! I can't wait to see what happens.

Oh, that was a nice resoloution to that situation. Well I mean at least things aren't all crazy. It was nice to see Severus looking for her and actually giving a crap. Thanks for the awesome chappie! Cheers! ~Brena

Can't you just post all 33 chapters in one... I hate waiting, especially when the story is as thrilling as yours. I wouldn't have thought to combine Draco with Divination but nonetheless he is amazing. Acting adult well that's difficult, but when there is anyone who comes near to manage it it's Hermine. Let's see how they cope in the future - this week even ?? xoxox

Oh, I'm so sorry I'm making you wait! But rest assured that the process of two betas looking at each chapter (and an enormous amount of editing on my part) is making it a FAR better story! Thanks so much for reading... I hope you enjoy the next chapter, which will indeed be submitted this week.

I love this and can't wait for the next chapter. I'm just wondering, where do the chapter titles come from? I've heard this rhyme but can't place it.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
So glad you're still enjoying it! The chapter titles come from an old British nursery rhyme for counting magpies, although there are many differing opinions on the proper phrasing after 'seven for a secret never to be told'. I've gone with the more romantic choices, obviously (nine for a kiss, ten for a time of joyous bliss...). Of course, the original rhyme only goes to 10 and my story has 33 chapters (it's complete and will update frequently) so keep in mind that anything past my Chapter 12 (titled 'Of Joyous Bliss') is entirely made up, using an enormous amount of literary license and very poor poetry skills...:-)Thanks so much for the nice reviews!!!

I'm going to keep reading, but I just want to say that I LOVED this chapter. The banter between the two was great, and I liked how Severus was treating poor Hermione like an eleven year old again, but still noticing that she's a woman. Hopefully he'll realize how brilliant she is.

Thank you so much - I was quite nervous with that chapter as it truly was the first time I wrote Snape in any detail. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!!

Indeed Severus should feel chagrin for his behavior. It will take some Slytherin work indeed for him to get into her good grace. He has always acted defensively in the past and that is all he knows. Hermione's past has traumatized her as much as his has him. Hopefully, together they can heal one and other, but I am sure it will be a rocky path. I look forward to walking it with you and them.Irish
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thanks so much for the review, Irish - that is exactly what I was trying to capture!! I think Severus has a history of attacking when he feels his pride threatened (I'm reminded of the "Snape's worst memory" scene in OotP) and it's going to take some work to change that. It will indeed be a rocky path for them but my hope is that each encounter will serve to bring them closer together, or at least provide a bit of understanding for the other. Thanks again for the lovely review - I really appreciate it!

Well, if Hermione is going to dance with a slytherin, it's good she has Draco in her corner. He will be valuable in translations, motivations and Merlin knows how many other things he can teach her on how to deal with them.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Yes, that's an excellent point! I think it will also give Hermione hope that not all Sytherins are bastards. :-) Thanks so much for the nice review!!

Am completely in love with your Draco (which is a feat, considering I loathed him in canon). Also-- Hermione behaved well, I thought. And Snape apologizing was just wonderful. Again, excellent chapter. You have quite the talent, thank you so much for sharing. Love this story, eagerly awaiting more!

Thank you so much - I've had several people say that they normally despise Draco but like him in this story. Perhaps he just REALLY needed to grow up and stop being a spoilt brat...And oh my goodness, thank you SO much for the lovely compliments - what an amazing review!!!

Great chapter!I'm torn between wanting Hermione to forgive Snape because he seems so sad and wanting her to be curt with him for a full year because he deserves it. I can't wait to see how things go!

Superb, as always. I love the way you reveal the intricacies of her friendship with Draco and the many small ways they've both changed over the years. You've made him three-dimensional and sympathetic to the point where I actually like him. You capture the awkwardness of the post-encounter conversations (with both friends and lovers) so well that it is almost uncomfortable to read, which I assume is entirely intentional and therefore brilliant. More please!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
If there are any parts of the story worthy of being called "brilliant", then yes, they're entirely intentional. :-) Thanks so much for the lovely review... you're ever so kind!

Well handled! A good cry, a long nap and a somewhat calm reason. But, I think she should have just walked out of Divination and left him there. Let him decided what to do with himself after. Inviting him to walk with her back to their shared rooms, seems to lessen the impact of her decision of no longer having companionable eating and reading times, together. Invitation is not condusive to separation.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thanks for the review and the high rating! And you make an excellent point on invitation not being conducive to separation. You made me really stop and consider my reasons for writing it that way, and in retrospect, I believe Hermione was focusing more on the part of her plan that involved comporting herself with dignity and indifference. I probably should have prefaced her comments with her thought processes... so the reader would know she's attempting to prove to Snape that she's unaffected and already moving on (although of course that's not necessarily true). Thanks again for the review - I appreciate the feedback and the opportunity to learn what readers think about specific parts of the story.

Dysfunction!!! I love it. Or, well, I enjoy reading about it, especially when people start to work themselves out.I feel quite badly for both S and H. I hope S gets some guts on and explains to H that she was mistaken (and who can blame her) in her interpretation of his intentions. Thanks for another interesting chapter!
(Oh, and yay! for nice!Draco--and he teaches Divination?? Ha!)
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Personally, I adore Draco as Divination professor. It's just as incongruous as nice!Draco, and part of what makes fan-fiction so much fun!!!I'm glad you found the chapter interesting... and if you like a bit of dysfunction, you're in luck! The next chapter will have its share of dysfunction, as well as some other interesting revelations. Thanks again for reading and for leaving a review!!

They are both idiots. But I do admire Hermione's attempt at taking the high road. The fact that it was hurtful has yet to cross her mind, though. And I love this Draco.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
"They are both idiots." - OMG, that made me laugh!!!And of course you're correct... but I love the idea that two people can be so brilliant about so many things, and yet absolutely clueless about matters of the heart. Thanks so much for continuing to read, and thanks for the review!!

My my my my my. Severus is QUITE besotted, is he not? And what does he care if she sleeps in Draco's bed, with or without Draco? That's her business, and Draco's . . . and inarguably Luna's. And if the three of them are okay with it, then it's none of his business.Severus as staked no claim to her; he is not her husband, her lover, her boyfriend or her master. Someone should've told him as much in so many words. ;)(And yes, I'm perfectly well aware that nothing happened between Draco & Hermione. My point is, if it had, it's none of Severus' business). :p
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
You're absolutely right... none of his business at all! I honestly don't think Severus fully understands his own motivations at this point... I think he'd be amazed (and more than a bit confrontational) if someone pointed out he was behaving like a jealous lover. Thanks so much for continuing to read, and thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate the feedback!
