Reviews for Second Chance
There are worse people than Harry Potter. I liked the professors visit.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
You are perfectly right about Harry. Thank you for your comment.
It's so good to learn that even portraits are capable of learning. Al is brave, confronting Snape like that! Is an apology to James alone enough, shouldn't it actually be in front of the classe. Not that I'd dare hoping for this..
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Hi! Thanks for your review. I'm glad you liked my ideas. This Snape is a very special portrait, as you will see if you keep reading the story. My little Al has been modeled on a real kid who is very similar to Albus Severus, or better, to the kid I imagine Al would be. And of course, Snape would never apologise in front of an entire class ;) But he will manage something more interesting, perhaps...Best wishes for the New Year!
Excellent chapter and loved the interaction with the armour, mouse and Snape. Speaking of Snape, do I detect a change, a restoration of humanity that is no longer housed in his prison of memories?! Yeah! Yeah to the you, our author for a work that continues to enthrall.

Hi
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
, you were late this time and I was beginning to wonder if you had been disgusted... See what's the problem of reviewing every chapter? Now I expect your comments each time ;)Joking (but not too much) aside, I'm glad you liked the chapter. This is one of my favourites and it will develop in something very peculiar. Again, this Snape is a very special portrait. He has an entire world of feelings inside him, and the next chapters will show them in their full intensity (once more, don't forget that the author is an emotional Italian). Thanks for your message and your kind words, and best wishes for the New Year!
The truth can be humbling, can't it? Excellent chapter. Loved the spellwork with the armor and the mouse. *snerk* ^_^
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you very much. This is one of my favourite chapters and the beginning of a change for Severus. Best regards and best wishes for the holiday season
So, the heart-wound has been re-opened... A painful process, but the fact that Severus realized he took no satisfaction is hopeful. But James has so much to learn.. He has become far more like a young Severus than he realizes...
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you for your message. As I said, this story provides second chances not only to Snape, but to all those surrounding him. The healing process has begun, but it still has a long and dificult way to go, because things cannot change immediately, even though 19 years have passed. Cannot say more at the moment, I hope you'll keep reading and enjoying.
And the past circles around to the present. I've heard it said that time is a wheel. May it be ever so. ^_^
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
But this time the present is going to change soon. Just wait next chapter.... ;)Thanks for your message.
Snape was being Snape and not expecting what happened. But James? Revenge? What a horrid little badly raised brat. He sounds like Draco Malfoy.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thanks for leaving me a comment. Well, don't be too harsh to James... which boy wouldn't feel resentful for being exposed to such humiliation in front of a whole class? And don't forget that James doesn't know that what happened was an incident. He thinks that it has been planned on purpose. But this incident is another big push for Severus to reconsider his past and discover that the present is different.
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
I know he would be resentful, but I would ask to be removed from the class, I don't know that I would be planning revenge. I do really like the story, James is just reminding me of Draco rather than Harry.
I really love this story. This chapter in particular was good. Snape saw himself in Jame at the very end of the ordeal. And he felt no satisfaction in watching the boy suffer. This is good. This is progress. So Snape is getting a second chance in more ways than one.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you very much for your comment. I'm glad that you noticed what really happened. In this story, second chances are continually building and offering themselves to Snape and to those surrounding him. I wanted to write a story of hope and joy in this time where anguish is spread all over the world. Ambitious goal, uh? ;)Anyway, I hope you'll keep enjoying it. Sorry for my English, as I always say, my answers aren't betaed ;)
I'm finding myself truly touched at this new degree of understanding and trust between Severus and Neville - one wonders how much of the steel of Neville's courage in that last year was actually tempered by what he'd undergone with Severus as one of his professors. Cliched, I know, but there is that whole "what doesn't kill me...." bit..
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you very much for leaving me a comment! I think that your consideration is highly believable and possible. Nothing like enduring pain and fear to create backbone... or to definitely kill you ;)But our Neville is a fabulous character to write. Sorry, I can't say anything else. Best regards from Italy :)
ooh Neville on a special assignment! Eager to read more. Seriously, you continue to astonish me with your understanding of human emotions. Your words are like paint that gel into a lovely, nuanced portait.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Because I'm Italian. Aren't we Italians famous for our emotional behaviour? ;)Seriously, at this point I am very curious to see your reactions about some of the chapters that still have to come. Starting from the next one, a long chain of very emotional events is going to develop. I'll be very happy to have your feedback. Perhaps you'll find that the emotions are even too many... Thanks for your comment!
I'm certain Neville will rise to the occasion. And that was a touching vision of Minerva.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you very much. This story is particularly focused on Minerva and Neville. I hope you will like also the next chapters.
Severus and Neville? What a daunting combination. *grin* I liked how you portrayed Minerva. Still a fair and compassionate teacher. ^_^
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Severus and Neville, a dynamic duo ;) I'm glad you liked the chapter, thank you for your comment.
Poor speech, Blaise. You just made what might be the most stupid mistake of your career. Think, man, think. ^_^
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
This "mistake" will generate different results... I leave the surprise to your curiosity. Thank you very much ;)
A pretty speech, Zabini, but ultimately you would do better if you made an ally of Snape if you were really concerned about your job. If you had managed to learn anything, you'd request the training you need from Snape to do your job better. These two need to come to an accord. Severus needs to give James a proper chance and let go of the past and Blaise needs to not hold Albus Severus' education hostage to his own past as well.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
You got it... but I can't say anything else ;)Thank you very much for your message.
Yeah, sorry, Zabini, not buying it. He may have set a poor example, but you weren't forced to follow it. And where was Albus? Zabini is not all right in the head, I think.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Snape played his part very well. He was even able to trick the Dark Lord, therefore how much easier for him to trick his students. Of course Zabini wasn't forced to follow his example, but being his family a "supporter" of the Dark side, it was obvious that the boy didn't doubt his professor. And Albus was seen as a enemy. The Sorting Hat was right. That's the problems of being divided.
Wow!! That exchange between Blaise and Snape at the end of the chapter was powerfully riveting. Thank you for raising an issue that I hadn't thought of before-- what were the surviving Slytherins to feel/ think about Snape, his betrayal and the aftermath. I'm ashamed to admit that I never thought about it, just bought into the bittersweet afterglow in the canon.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you! :)The Slytherins are a very particular group inside Hogwarts. It's difficult to deal with them because of their reputation. I have tried to imagine how they should have felt after a war in which the majority of them seemed to have chosen the "wrong" side. And unfortunately, in a way, Snape contributed...
Is Zabini not to be trusted? Is that why Snape warned Minerva and Albus told her to trust Snape? Can't wait for the next chapter to find out. ^_^
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you for your comment and for your questions. Unfortunately, I can't give you an answer ;) But I can tell you that you'll have to be patient and wait a bit before knowing Zabini's story in all its complexity.
He can't give up his stupid revenge against helpless children even as a portrait? How sad for him.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. As I have explained to Soxfan below - and again forgive the imperfect English of my reply - and as Dumbledore advised Minerva, this Snape has still a long way to go in order to learn how to live again. At the moment, he clings desperately to his old existence. Meeting Albus Severus and experiencing all those deep feelings hasn't been enough to delete what he underwent in his previous life. He comes from a dark period in which pain and fear were his "daily bread". Also, there are people around him who continuously remind him of those horrible past days. Now he needs to try and discard what has become useless and painful so to get used to this new much more rewarding life. But you will agree that he can't change suddenly. Please be prepared to see him struggle for another handful of chapters.
I'm enjoying the story so far. Keep it up!
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you very much. I hope to hear from you again.
Nicely done, and Zabini needs to go! Maybe I'm being prejudiced, but something seems very off, here.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you for your comment. Zabini... well, Zabini has his reasons to be so harsh. Next chapter will show you why. Snape has a long way to go in order to learn how to live again in this new world.
I have been eagerly awaiting this update and it didn't disappoint. I must admit however, that the author has me a bit perplexed... the title of the story is Second Chance. Yet Snape seems to be repeating old behaviours with James. Or is there a method to our author's plot strategy?!
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you for leaving me a message and thank you for asking. I think that your doubts will rise again in the next chapters, and other readers may have your same impression, so I suppose that it's better to give some explanations, hoping that my unbetaed English helps me. This Snape has just awakened after 19 years of stasis and is beginning to experience emotions again. Of course, he is still very connected to his past. He has been able to experience something new and deep and sweet with Albus Severus, the reason why he has decided to "live again". But he cannot delete the 38 years of his previous human life. He has to learn how to position himself in this new world where so many things have changed. And he will make many mistakes before learning. Also, there are other people around him who haven't forgotten. He will have to face his past to accept his present...I hope that my explanation has explained without giving away too much ;) I chose the title of my story for several reasons that you will discover if you go on reading. Please believe that I am the first one to believe in second chances and that Snape will follow a path of hope and love in spite of this harsh beginning. Thanks again and best regards from Italy.
Response from SoxFan (Reviewer)
Makes perfect sense and in this context, I look forward to his self discovery and ours as the reader! Update soon please!
ooohhhh - nice
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thank you very much. I'm glad you like my story.
That was unexpected. I like that it was unexpected.
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
Thanks. But what precisely was "unexpected", if I may ask?
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Blaise and his response to being told he needed supervison, basically.
Ha, knew it was Zabini!
Response from Memory (Author of Second Chance)
You are too clever for me ;)Let's hope I can surprise you later, then.
