Even if she can't manage to remember everything he tells her in dreams (or even, far worse!, everything he does to her in dreams!), surely he could tell us!This Teach fellow may be gorgeous, but there's something fishy there. But still, can't she finish the job with him and then find out what it is?! Surely Severus would allow that---as it would make his own visits that much more, um, satisfying!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Ah, yes - these are the problems with '3rd person limited' point of view. But we will have more Snape, and more dreams, fear not! :)As to your question about Hermione's finishing the 'job' and then dealing with Teach's fishiness - that would obviously make sense, so Snape must have a reason for impeding it. Which we shall find out soon enough. :) Thanks for the review!

As I've been following along, the character name Edward Teach kept driving me batty. I was pretty sure I had seen the name before.Today, I finally ran across the information: Blackbeard the Pirate.Anyway, I've enjoyed the plot thus far and Severus Snape makes me laugh - quite the jealous one isn't he? Reminds me a bit of the ghost and Mrs.Muir in that respect.I'm looking forward to more of this mystery. Everytime you answer one question, you leave us with several more to ponder. Happy writing, dear author!

Then, without warning, her arm drew back, and she threw the tiny green marble against the opposite wall with all of her might. Ah, so one good temper tantrum deserves another. Somehow I don't feel that warning about Teach is only due to a jealous temper. Hermione does indeed seem to be going down a dangerous path and she's not fully listening to her guide's advice.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Sounds like you are much wiser than Hermione! :-D But then, if she was entirely wise and reasonable, it'd be a pretty boring story... ;)

A smartly written story. I like how you portray all the characters. Not too much Ron and Harry, and I can't wait until Severus and Hermione "talk" again!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! Yes, I think it's only fair that Ron and Harry get a little sidelined here - after all, they get the whole of canon pretty much to themselves, no? Time for Hermione to shine a little. So pleased to hear you are enjoying the fic! :)

Hermione screamed. And so did I! The research you have done on this is fascinating. I love all the details and explanations. Hermione's questions were very cleverly worded. However, some of the answers give me cause for concern. Particularly that "Can you tell me some other way?" answer.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thanks! I'm really glad you like the research angle. :) There is plenty more where that came from...

how much research you must be or have been doing. I'm really impressed.that marble - experiment and her questions were very clever, but most impressive was the appearance at the end. and so she screamed. someone has a favour for cliffies...?grrbut I'll wait in ( mock ) patience.salva

I do indeed like cliffies, but I tried to resolve this one quickly! Thanks for the review. :)

Ok, so i swear i've got it right this time.... Teach is after the Resurrection Stone and that's why Snape is warning Hermione???? Oh i just love this story. At first i didn't know if i liked it or not because Snape wasn't really in it. But the more i read the better it got. AMAZING! Please keep writting to keep freaks like me, that actually do sort of have a life but prefer to neglect it and read fanfiction, sane.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Hooray, I'm so glad you kept reading! Yeah, I am one of those freaks too - sadly, this week has been a life-focussed weak, but I am now free to indulge in fanfic again and plan to have an update within a day or two!And no, nothing to do with the Resurrection Stone... ;) Thanks for the review!

Hmmmm. I still don't know exactly what to make of Teach. A large part of me doesn't trust him. I can't say I'm surprised that Snape doesn't approve. Hermione may have an active dream life, but she's going to be very short on male guests with Snape around. This made me think of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir in the way he frightened off Teach. Now what on earth was he trying to explain to her about the Floo system?Because people with limited choices are less likely to question the status quo.Well, Hermione certainly does a lot of questioning. Can she find the right questions, though?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Well, it's possible that that may depend entirely upon who the male guests are... :)I am not familiar with the other story you mention - is it a book or a film? If a book, who is the author? It sounds interesting! :)
Response from MoreThanSirius (Reviewer)
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is both plus a TV series. The book was written in 1945 by Josephine Leslie using the pen name R. A. Dick. The movie was made in 1947 featuring Rex Harrison as the ghost and Gene Tierney as Mrs. Muir. The TV series was in America in the late 60's. The basic story is of a young widow and her daughter. She impulsively buys a lonely ocean front house to get away from her demanding inlaws. She finds the house inhabited by the ghost of a seafaring captain who scares the heck out of everyone else, but befriends her and her daughter and does all he can to protect them.

Okay, they have got to stop meeting like that, because you're scaring the living daylights out of me! I don't blame her for running, but if she wants to contact him, she may have to get used to this. If it truly is Snape, and if she could conquer that inate fear, then maybe he could show her the way to the basement. However, I'm with Hermione on this right now. Let's get a good night's sleep elsewhere first!

Are you sure you didn't read ahead for this review? 'Cause it sounds like you read ahead. :) Very perceptive comments here - I'm so pleased you are liking the fic! ;-D
Response from MoreThanSirius (Reviewer)
Nope, just a good guess coming from the Slytherin in me. I like to think Slytherins are very good at making use of whatever information they are given to solve their problems. Hermione wants to get into the basement. Snape knew how. Snape's ghost probably knows how, hence, use the ghost. That and I read a heck of a lot of mysteries!

Congratulations on successfully creeping me out there! From the lovely dream to the out-of-body-dream to the sheer terror of the waking state with the dark man still there, you had me on the edge of my seat. The first question I have is just how much does Mark know? Casual comments on magic and witches and ghosts seem a bit strange. Did Snape take such an interest in him because he felt his magic? Will Mark be getting a special letter one of these days? I'm as curious as our newly snaeky Hermione.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Yay for being creeped out! Mark knows stuff, but he does not know about magic. Thanks again for continuing to review! :)

Well, the basement issue isn't looking too good, but Hermione's certainly taking a giant leap forward on other things. Perhaps while she's out looking at libraries, she should be visiting Draco to find out if Snape had any interesting books on the subject. Or is she just planning on waiting until she can ask Snape himself? Looks like she's heading toward dangerous ground here. Those Gryffindors do like to rush in; don't they?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
They rush in where even other fools fear to go. :) Is it ruining things to say that there will be some Draco? ;) Thanks for reviewing!

Well, now. That was a surprise! Mark certainly does tug at the heartstrings. He must be quite lonely to consider Snape his best friend when he was only there a small part of the year. I can't help but wonder if they were the highlight of each other's summer vacation. Mark may just turn out to be a font of information about Snape. Glad to know Hermione is bound and determined to find out everything she can!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Poor Mark - I like the way you put it, that maybe they were the highlight of one another's holidays. That is certainly the kind of friendship I intended to suggest. Thanks for the review! :)

At last she's found, or rather been shown, the basement! How frustrating that it seems to hold nothing of any importance. What was he trying to show her? And are her dreams really dreams?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
*twiddles thumbs while looking innocently upward* Read on, my friend, read on. :)

Marvelous research! I do so love a well-researched tale just chock full of details. Now, what to make of Edward Teach? Tall, brown and handsome. With a pirate's name. Hmmmm. That's rather intriguing. That basement is proving to be rather tricky. I still can't wait to find out what's down there.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! I have been doing a lot of research for this fic, and there is still much yet to come, so hopefully the details will continue to be intriguing. :)

A place of her own far away from the madding crowd must appeal to Hermione right now. Snape must have left her the place for a reason. Can't help but wonder what happened to all those books, though. Not to mention what's in that cellar. Okay, I'm hooked.~Scurries off to chapter two.~

I really like ghost Snape. Also, what is it that is so disconcerting about a man that is all one color (I think you described Teach that way earlier in your story)? Aside from his initial bags of gold, it's really the only thing that I find disturbing about him so far, but it does disturb me.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
He is not precisely all one colour - he is varying shades of light brown. I imagine him as looking a bit like Rafael Nadal, but maybe that's just because the Wimbledon is on... :) Thanks for the review!

Uh-oh. You shouldn't mess with an angry Snape, not even in ghost form. But you have to give Hermione marks for trying...

That isn't fair to Hermione. He's dead, so he should let her live in peace. Although I don't trust Teach either.

Hermione's attempt to seduce Teach was very in keeping with the Gryffindor character - bold and not at all subtle - he didn't stand a chance, did he? I almost felt sorry for him this time, as he keeps getting worked up over her only to be interrupted. I loved Snape's tantrum, and noticed that he waited for Hermione to move mostly out of harm's way before he let loose. But now he's holding out on her, just like a petulant lover. Very funny, and I'm hoping there will be some make-up sex when they are both over their snits.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I quite like your analysis of that chapter! I never really thought it might be amusing (getting inside the characters can take away one's sense of the ridiculous), but now that you point it out, yes, Hermione is more or less steamrolling over Teach and Snape is being, haha, petulant. :) Thank you so much for the review - great stuff! :-D

What does Snape know that Hermione doesn't? And why doesn't he tell her? Great chapter

Hermione's recklessness is turning out to be the scariest part of the story. She has a patron she knows next-to-nothing about; his eagerness to know about Voldemort's horcruxes makes her uncomfortable, and he has seemed vaguely threatening on two occasions. She told him about the mystery basement in her house that should have an opening through the kitchen, and he correctly deduced the type of charm hiding the doorway. Later, he revealed that he knows she is living in Severus Snape's house. She lied to him when he asked her if she'd found a way into the basement. But then she invited him to her house twice; both times he was in the kitchen and presumably could see the door just as Harry and Ron had been able to see it (even though he has given no indication that he has seen it - but we aren'y privy to his thoughts). He saw the manifestation of Severus's soul on the first visit, but Hermione denied that it was Snape and denied that she had ever seen the "ghost" who is haunting her house. She doesn't trust Teach, and no doubt she shouldn't trust him; nevertheless, she invited him for dinner for the purpose of setting him up for a one-night stand so that she could fully experience sex with Dream!Snape. I don't know what will happen next in your wonderful story, but I will bet Hermione is going to find herself backed into a very unpleasant corner because of her deceptions and recklessness.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Agreed, agreed - hopefully Hermione will come to her senses before she finds herself 'backed into a very unpleasant corner,' as you say. Thank you so much for the lovely review! :-D
