This is a fascinating story. In particular in the current chapter, I loved reading about the background of the Urim and Thummim. YOu've captured my interested because of all the detail you've put in your story -- tells me you've given this some thought and done some research. I'm a research junkie and you've got me hooked.I'm very interested in seeing what's going on with the ghost. If it is in fact a ghost or part of Hermione's mind or some other thing. I did like how it firghtened away Teach, that was quite funny. And the current cliff hanger?! I'm going to be checking the update list every day hoping for more.

Hopefully it will be up in the next few days. :)

Evil Cliffy! OK I know better then to ask, but I will ask anyway BUT NO HINTS. I should trust your masterful writing. I am bubbling with excitement and wondering is Snape really dead? I don't want him to be dead..... DON"T ANSWER!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I refuse to answer that. ;)The cliffy had to happen, by the way, if only to make sure I had enough good stuff left over for the next chapter!

Good thing I'm up for the day. I think reading this before bed would give me strange dreams. Great story though, looking forward to the next.

How gloomy! OMG I guess I would have run after the first candle went out... And this IS an evil cliff!I am amazed at the amount of research you must have put into this chapter.

Sorry about the evil cliffy! You will see the reason for it in the next chapter. :) Doing all of the research for this fic has been so much fun, and there is still more left to do! Hope you continue to like it. :-D

Complex, precise questions that can be satisfied by simple responses--Probably for this reason, the Urim and Thummim is the method of Divination most often employed by the legal profession.Nice comment on lawyers! This continues to be an intriguing examination of a lot of the things brought up in canon but never really explored. I am, as always, fascinated in finding out where this is going!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! I'm so pleased you're still fascinated. More good (hopefully) stuff is on the way. :)

OH, don't stop now!How cool, a really original magical idea. I heard about the Urim and Thummim from the nice Mormon boys who chatted with me and my husband. We didn't convert but told them that Texas was too hot to be biking around, and to stop by for cold water any time. I think Joseph Smith used the Urim and Thummim to translate his golden tablets. I remembered that they were mentioned in the bible as well, but don't recall anything about them. I had thought they w ere part of the priests' garb. Silly me.Thanks for another chapter, but why'd you stop here!?? Glad to see more of Mark. ‘Because you liked Professor Snape, too.’ That's so sweet.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
The Urim and Thummim are part of the priests' garb - somebody's breastplate, if I recall correctly. I first read about them in John Bellairs' 'The Revenge of the Wizard's Ghost.' I had no idea Joseph Smith had anything to do with them... Regardless, they were too good not to use. :)I had to stop there, by the way! Couldn't be cramming all the excitement into one chapter, now, could I? :-D

Holy shit! I was reading the questions and the colors so quickly that I actually jumped and SCREAMED when you described the shadow in the room. Damn I will have nightmares now. That was a GREAT chapter!!

I like the red and green marbles, green for yes and red for no. Is that a reference to Slyth vs Gryff , or traffic lights?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Both. :-D

Both. :-D
Well, this is pretty freaking amazing. Isn't that an intellectual response? However, it qualifies. This fic is more than intelligent to allow my gushing to suffice. Thanks!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Hey, you won't find me complaining about gushing reviews! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. :)

That's some scary stuff you've got goin on there! Exciting, though... :) I like the details you put in the story, all the "technical stuff" as I like to call it adds so much more to the story instead of just saying "a spell" or "a book", etc.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! I enjoyed researching (and in some cases, creating) the 'technical stuff.' Lots more of it coming up. :)

Nice Malfoy, shimmery Snape, mysterious patron. Please, more!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
More very soon, I promise! Thank you very much for the review. :)
I would have more than screamed if I popped home to that!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Haha, me too, most likely. Especially if I had four pints of lager in me. *blush*
OMG I LOVE GHOST STORIES! And I have to say that this one is amazing!! I can't wait to see what happens. To me, there's something strange about Teach. I get the feeling that he's someone that we should be watching closely... hmmm.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! You should definitely watch Teach closely, I agree, and not least because I named him after a pirate! He is a pretty manipulative bloke, after all. Look at how he's changing the direction of Hermione's research... ;)
Is he a ghost or not....this is so good! Please, hurry with the next chapter
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Next chapter coming right up! With answers. :)
so snape possessed the book last. and it can not be found.hm. what next. is the ghost leading her to it. I hope so. or else, the mysterie will never be revealed.that man had something on his mind, sort of a plan before he died. hermione once observed that she wonders why such a poverfull wizard doesn't prevent his own death in that war.or so. well, he did have a plan. but like his character, it would be most mysterious and it would take a powerful witch to crack the nut.I'm thrilled.more of it, and pleeeeaasssseee : soon!!!!!!salva
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
You are pretty much right on target! I love it when somebody's review gets right to the important stuff. I'm so glad you like the story so much! More is coming up very soon. :)
things are getting weirder. What was that apparition?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
All in the next chapter - I hope you will stick around to read it! Thanks for the review. :)
This is really intriguing. Your writing is superb - sub-plots, a strong engine, good detail and some lovely humorous moments - and I haven't been this excited about a story in awhile. I think I love where you're going with this 'nature of the soul' business and it takes a lot of creativity to get past what happened to dear Snape in canon, so... my hat's off to you! Please, please, keep going!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Wow, what a wonderful and thoughtful review! Thank you so much. I'm really glad you're interested in the soul part, which is of course central to the story - hopefully it will continue to be exciting! Many many thanks again - reviews like this really do keep the impetus to write strong. :)
Woo Hoo! I now officially LOVE this story! Draco saying his charm is iresistable, un-pearly ghost of Snape- or whatever of SNape. the mysterious Mr Teach, is he good or bad?
This is so neat! you add more stuff to love each chapter. excellent!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! :-D I'm so glad to hear that. I found myself coming up with quite a complicated fic, so I've had to go slowly, but I'm really happy to see that peeps seem to be pretty satisfied with that. More exciting stuff (hopefully) in the next chapter as well, which is in the queue now! :)
I really like that Hermione is afraid of ghosts. It shows that she hasn't completely lost her muggleness while going to school. I always thought it was weird that the kid would be afraid of the shreeking shack when they saw ghosts everyday at Hogwarts. Makes you wonder if they got that fear from muggles.
I really like this story and have no idea where it is going next. Keep up the good work
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I never even thought of that - what a good point! Maybe it's not so much fear of ghosts, in the end, as it is fear of the unknown. Thank you so much for the thoughtful review!
Mystifying and just a bit ominous--great chapter!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! I'm pleased you liked it. :)
He wants her to save him! I think...
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Save him from being dead? That's a tall order! Actually there is something else her ghost wants, as we will find out quite soon. :)
I kind of like your Draco, but I guess it isn't heading in that direction.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thanks for letting me know that - although this fic isn't headed in that direction, you're right, I could write the same Draco in another one... ? I hope you keep reading nevertheless! :)
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Oh, I will keep reading, this is one of my favorite 'ships. And your story is interesting. But yes, he could definitely be in another one.
Ok - Hermione lost her nerve - still - I would not have packed a bag - I would have R-U-N! Does Draco become more important later on? This chap has left me with all kinds of questions!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Draco is a bit of a fun aside but we may see more of him later on. I would have run, too, but Hermione is a practical girl. Also, when I envisaged the ghost in the sitting room, I was still imagining that it was daylight - so not quite as creepy as if he'd rocked up in her face in the dark. ;) Thank you so much for the review!
