Aw, thank you! More is coming up soon - chapter 6 is in the queue.
Oooohhh, the story is getting very interesting. I was happy to see such a quick update. Thanks.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! I am trying to update this one quickly - it's easy since I'm having so much fun writing it!
I am enjoying this story very much! I hope you will update soon and not let this fade away as so many others do once the series is over.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I'm happy that you enjoy it! The story is planned out - I promise you, it will not be abandoned!
This is getting very creepy - I love it!! There are a lot of directions that this story could go. I can't wait to see where you take it.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! I hope you enjoy where it goes - if all goes to plan, it's going to get even creepier...
Oh, that chapter was much too short and building up waaaay too much suspense. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. ;)
You are stepping on a very intersting field. Philosophy and spiritualism, I'm curious to see where you lead us to.Makes one think and reflect oneself. Very promising. Like it.Salva
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! :)
have you read any of the Ender series by orson scott card? the later books, I think in Speaker for the Dead, maybe, there is this idea of the collective soul. or something. I think it is very interesting, what you are choosing to deal with here.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I haven't read any Orson Scott Card, actually. Wikipedia claims that 'collective soul' comes from an Ayn Rand novel, which I have read, but I stole the idea from Jung and the medieval neo-Platonists. Sort of. Jung was talking about the unconscious and the neo-Platonists about forms, but hey, I'm not the first to bastardise the ideas of wiser people, and I won't be the last. :) Thanks for the review!
Great chapter! I love the details you've put in! Thank you for sharing all your research and hard work!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Aw, thank you so much! It is my pleasure to share it. I love that other people are enjoying it all. :)
I am now really addicted to your story.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Woo-hoo! Sweet. :-D
Nothing like biting off more than you can chew! Of course Hermione doesn't believe that a thing like that exists, so she'll happily plunge ahead. I hope she discovers - safely - something monumental, and that Mr. Teach has no ulterior motives...
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Ha! You read my other fic - you know how I do things. Safe? No ulterior motive? Dream on. :)
Oh, I think Hermione is in over her head. But it is quite interesting.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
She may very well be, although I think one of the great things about Hermione's character is that she doesn't seem to believe that anything is impossible. It's v. inspirational. :)
very interesting chapter, I wonder who can get into that basement?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
More on the basement coming up soon, I promise! ;)
This was an interesting chapter, I'm looking forward to the answeres to the questions that Hermione wrote down.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thanks! :)
So that little voice inside her is telling her that Snape's soul would help her open the hidden door? And what might she find there? And just who is this Edward Teach, and how does he figure in this fascinating tale? You raise a lot of intriguing questions, especially in noting all the many different threads that exist in canon having to do with the soul. Looking forward to more!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Yeah, I became, if possible, even more interested in HP when JKR started getting into the soul stuff. I'm not sure I agree with her, though, as you will see. Thanks for the review!
Very interesting. I am quite curious to see what of the huge body of Muggle attempts to communicate with the dead you will use and how. Is Snape's little friend able to open the basement? I still don't give up on you to deliver a live Snape somehow ;-)
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I will deliver a Snape, count on it. Can't promise what condition he'll be in, however... :)
Questions, questions, questions! Whoo - I'm exhausted from all of Hermione's questions! Great chap - it certainly got me thinking.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thanks! Somewhere the writing bug bit me and I have been working on this story like mad lately. Expect to see more chapters, and answers, soon!
I love how you have spent so much time in the details and the connections of "muggle" soul descriptions. Very nicely done!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! I loved researching those parts - some of the stuff I read was so fascinating. I wish I could have included it all, but that would have ruined the fun of the story, I think...!
Response from CharmedForce (Reviewer)
Well if you are interested in it more for yourself, you should look at the Bhagavad-Gita. It is long, but you can find condensed versions or ones specific to the expositions on souls. I have links if you are interested.
Very, very good. One question though. Why did you use Earth-plane instead of the more accepted Earthly-plane? Religion has usually referred to the Earthly plane and the Heavenly plane. Hermione, growing up as a Muggle born child would surely have heard that phrase. Very good chapter anyway
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Erm... I dunno, really! It never occurred to me to use 'earthly plane.' I did consciously avoid 'heavenly plane,' mainly because I was trying to incorporate ideas about the soul that come from cultures that don't really recognise heaven as such, but also because 'heavenly plane' isn't really going to make sense later on. You will kind of see in the next chapter what I'm going for.But the honest answer is just - it never crossed my mind. 'Soul-plane' came first and I wanted an easy parallel. :)
Wow! This is such an amazing story. I can't wait to see how everything ties together, and I want to find out what's behind that door! Please post more soon!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! There is another chapter waiting in the queue now - it's two for one week. :)
I'm enjoying the philosophical aspects of this story, in addition to the air of mystery and temptation. Excellent work.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Wonderful, I'm so pleased to hear that! It's an idea that's been ticking around my head since learning of Horcruxes in HBP, so I'm glad you're appreciating the exploration of it. :)
she has a lot going for herself. a businesswoman I would say.Always the problem with these patrons.Hope she finds a way to keep him at bay.well, he asked the ministry way BEFORE the downfall of Voldy to do some research on Horocruxes. And he doesn't mind spending a fortune on it. fishy. And who tells him that Hermine is a bookworm?Who are his connections? He has some.Interesting, addictive quality i would say.salva
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! :)
Very fine description of the situation. Looking forward to reading your story.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thanks. :) Truce?
Response from lipa (Reviewer)
I wasn't aware it was you. I'll try to keep silent if I don't like chapter 10 or so. It might mean I'll keep silent from no on, just in case. That is, if I remember our "history". Tough job reviewing spontaneously.
Edward Teach...wasn't that Blackbeard? What does that signify?????? HMMMM, I guess I'll just have to continue reading (BTW, great story)
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Indeed, that was Blackbeard's name. Thanks for reviewing!
Hm... Edward Teach makes me nervous. Described as monochrome, but friendly and willing to apologize for an American's atrocious manners (as an American I can rightly say we have awful manners compared to most of the world!). As I read about him all I could think was, "Too good to be true."
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
On the contrary, I think Americans have very fine manners. :-D
I like the story. Awaiting the next chapter. I just have to say not all of us Americans are pushy, especially us Southern Americans!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Well, naturally! No offence intended - some of the nicest people I know are from the South. :)
Response from sharris (Reviewer)
Absolutely, no offense taken.
