Reviews for Soul Man
That would scare the juice out of me too!I wonder what Draco really wants, he doesn't care for Hermione so why invite her to dinner?5++ for the delicious scare!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
'scare the juice out' - what a pithy way of putting it! I like. :) Yeah, as for Draco, he was drunk and curious. Not the most sensible combination! So glad you liked the scare. :-D
I hope you don't plan a horror story. I hope. I hate horror.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Don't think of it as horror. Think of it as suspense. I promise there will be no gory stuff or dead bodies hanging around everywhere. This is more Hitchcock than Halloween.
You're weaving in so many intriguing details! Ah, but I do so hope there's a more complicated explanation for the ghost-like figure appearing to her. This is a Draco I can believe, too, who should pop up again if only for the sake of his own redemption.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! There is def. an explanation for the ghost, which we will get to in due course. Perhaps we will see more of Draco as well, later on. I'm so glad you like the fic. :)
Wow. The ghost story heats up. Can't wait to see where you take it next. Really like your Hermione, drunk or sober. Well done.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! I can just Hermione as a little bit of an indignant drunk, especially around somebody like Draco. Thanks for reviewing!
Please, please, please, please tell me that he's NOT in fact dead.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Well, no. He's dead. But this is Harry Potter-world, so why should that be an impediment to anything? ;)
Response from JunoMagic (Reviewer)
Oh, no ... *sigh*I just can't take stories in which he's actually dead ... :-(
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Yeah, but... well, just trust me on this one. Pretty please?
Response from JunoMagic (Reviewer)
I'll try, but I can't promise. I simply have trouble with ghost stories ... they are IMO even sadder than canon, so I don't know if I'll manage to hang around.
If I had been in her place, I would have had to change my knickers.......
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Word. :)
LOVED your characterization of Draco. I can just picture him turning out like that. And is Snape actually dead, or what? Sounds like Hermione needs some answers. And I still don't know what Teach is up to, and I'm liking him less and less. In other words, post soon!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! Draco is one of my fav. characters, although I prefer him as an auxiliary - I wouldn't like to take on writing him as a protagonist yet. Posts coming thick and fast, I hope - one is in the queue at the moment. I'm so glad you are liking the fic!
I enjoyed this first chapter very much. My fav line was "If Snape’s office at Hogwarts was anything to go by, the house would be filled with grotesqueries"Grotesqueries. Wonderful word. I also liked the description of the house, and it seems Snape's books are always gone when he is. lol. Hermione inheriting his house is a brilliant idea. :)
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Haha, thanks! I like that word too. :) I can't claim credit for the 'inheriting Spinner's End' bit, as it has been done before (most notably by my own beta, the wonderful Angel Mischa, in her fic 'A Posse Ad Esse'), but I thought it was a great idea too and I had to nick it!
Great chap! Hermione is much more brave than me. I would have completely freaked out - not her - which I think is absolutely in character. I look forward to an update!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! Yeah, Hermione is crazy brave - if I saw a ghost, I'd probably wet myself. Thank goodness there's no such thing as ghosts! ;)
I'm loving this story. I hope Mark ends up geting a Hogwarts letter. he's about the right age, no? I forget, I need to go back and re-read the story to recall how old he is. This is really neat.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I'm so glad you love the story! I never really gave Mark an age, but I guess he'd be about ten.
Wish I'd have dreams like that....
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Haha - don't we all!
This continues to be a wonderful and absorbing story (and the dream sex was very hot, too.) I look forward to seeing how Hermione solves her various mysteries. Well done.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! Yes, lots of mysteries here. Fun times. :)
perhaps Severus learned those magical extension charms from the Weasleys, and has another house tucked away in a drawer somewhere!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Haha! No, I don't think so. But cool idea! Thanks for reviewing. ;)
Oh very intriguing. is there a second house hidden in this one?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
A second house? Erm... not entirely sure what you mean! But no, there is not a second house. If you mean what I think you mean. *confused!* Thanks for the review. :)
This is so good.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Wonderful, I'm so pleased you like it!
Scary! Yup...I'd have run out of that house faster than a banshee on fire. She's brave!I really like Mark...but for some reason (I'm entirely not sure why), he kind of creeps me out. I'm interested to see how his character plays out. :)Looking forward to more! It's been great so far!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! Yes, Hermione is v. brave, but I'm sort of relying on the fact that she's seen much worse than a ghost. Which is why she's relieved when she realises what it is! :)
Just read all five chapters and am now hooked. You write very well and your story is clear and easy to read. I am one of many who read thousands of fanfics so I have become quite picky and jaded, yours is of very good quality.
By the way chapter 5 freaked me out. I can't believe she stayed in the house that night, I would have run a mile. I like Mark very much and his relationship with Severus makes me love Severus even more. I think he would have seen alot of himself in Mark. One tiny complaint if I may? You need a britpicker, such a well written and interesting story ruined by Americanisms. Keep updating and i'll keep reading....dieing to know what is in the basement.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I'm really pleased to hear that you find my writing to be good quality. That's one of the best compliments a writer can get. :)I'm not entirely certain what you mean by 'Americanisms' but I shall give that a good think. American culture is so prevalent here that it is often difficult for me to pinpoint when a particular usage is not properly 'British.' :)
Oooh, I have to say that I definitely can't wait for the next chapter! I'm too excited! I love spooky stories like this, and I can't wait to see how Snape ties into this! I have to say that I love this story because of all the small details you put into it that help make the characters seem very human. Good job!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the spookiness. More about Snape is coming up soon. :)
Beautiful beginning. Can't wait to dig in.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! :)
Intriguing! This is a delicate little mystery you're weaving here, with all kinds of possible answers, both concrete and magical. I do hope she gets a look at those memories...and that it does indeed turn out to be the former owner of the house. Looking forward to more!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! Hermione is going to get a look at the memories, definitely. I don't think anybody will be terribly surprised by what she finds. ;)
Well, he's certainly interested, anyway. Interesting chapter. And I like Mark.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! :)
gosh how thrilling!!read it in one breath.what is this house hiding.how good, that the boy was with her, the first time this "thing" appeared.I would have rather burned the house than set a foot in again. really thrilling
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! Yeah, it was good that Mark was there - if one is the only person to see a ghost, self-doubt begins to set in.
Hmm, interesting. The obvious choise for this 'apperition' is Severus, but why would he want to frighten Hermione?Very creepy chapter.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Well, then one has to ask oneself, do ghosts ever really intend to frighten? Or are they just kind of there? We shall see! Thanks for reviewing. :)
This was an excellent chapter! I was on the edge of my seat throughout.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Wow, thank you! I'm pleased you enjoyed the suspense. :)
It'll be interesting to see how Harry takes her wanting to view the memories. After all, she has his house now!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
We shall see soon! Thanks for you review. :)
