Reviews for Soul Man
I was thrilled to find this chapter posted. You've set the stage quite tantalizingly. I can't wait to find out where you're going to take us!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I certainly hope you'll think it's an exciting ride! :)
Most excellent beginning. I look forward to your next chapter! I particularly like the info on York; it makes Spinner's End and its desolate mill more real, somehow. Thanks!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you so much! When I read HBP, I immediately imagined Spinner's End in York, so I decided I just had to go with that in this fic. :)
Im looking forward to more. I'm interested in finding out just how Hermione came to be willed the house!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thanks! I am writing the next chapter even now. :)
Oh, I like this. If only he had survived. This has great promise.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you! :)
Wow, VERY promising start. I'll really be waiting for future chapters on this one. And I hope Hermione has decent luck with whatever contractors she can get to fix the place up!
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you for sticking around! I'm really excited to be writing from Hermione's POV this time.
oh noes! an unfinished story! (you'd think I'd pay attention to the status before clicking on them) :(
please update with what happens to Snape/Draco, Teach, ect. this is a great story, and I hate to see it left hanging!
hmm, but what if THIS is what Snape was trying to warn Hermione off of? Maybe Snape would have jumped off a building in Edward's body, to kill him, since he seems to be a death eater, from what malfoy said.
ooh, more creepy!! I like the marble idea though, something easy that he can guide, if you will, to communicate to her.
oooh, crock block! poor Hermione! curious why Snape keeps hanging around her..
Creepy!! (I probably should'nt read this before bed, but reading is how I relax. If I have nightmares, I'm blaming you though! ;)
Hey... just to let you know I absoloutely love this story, and I'm sorry, I realise that this must be really annoying but WHEN are you going to update?!! Please don't have abandoned it, it's just getting exciting!xxxx
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Thank you for the lovely review! I know lots of authors find it annoying when people ask about updates, but I don't mind, I promise. :-) Sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your review - I haven't been doing much in the fanfic world lately. But I've got a bit more free time and brain-space now, so the fic should be updated more regularly.
ten points to July for using "Oort cloud,; since I can't thinkof anyone I know who would use it! very interesting ideas on the theory of souls.
aww, I picture him similar to Snape as a boy. I must hold him and squeeze him and give him lemons!
hmm, I am also curious where all his books went...
I think it's time for first names. She is permitted to be in love with him when she is asleep? I wonder if she will remember. It will be sad to be in love for the first time in her life with someone who is dead. I hope you intend to remedy that situation if possible. I was right about Cheat. He is not a good person, is he? I am tempted to read the other reviews but I don't want to spoil the story if they give away the information. I wonder if anyone else thinks his name has to be fake. Teach isn't a normal name even for Americans. Poor Severus Snape. He tried so hard to fix things. He did so much to protect Harry and he didn't want to die yet. Damn Albus Dumbledore! I believe he could have protected Severus. I'm sure he knew Tom had the elder wand and would believe Snape to be the owner. He never shared that information with Severus nor why it was important who the wand was loyal to. I have a feeling Snape didn't have as much information in wand lore as Dumbledore had. The old SOB didn't trust Severus not to give it away. Did it greive Dumbledore that he had to use so many people so shamelessly and without pity?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Snape's canon character always seemed to get a raw deal, didn't he? I think I read somewhere that JK was only half-sympathetic to him, because he was somehow managing to sacrifice himself selfishly.
Is Cheat bad or is Snape jealous or is it both? Why doesn't she ask Snape if he is jealous using the marbles, then ask him if Cheat is evil or dangerous? Ask Snape if Cheat means her harm. Ask if she is in mortal danger from Cheat. Ask him if he wants her to remain a virgin. She needs to determine Snape's motives before she starts accusing him of manipulating her. She also needs to ask him about each specific task she is working on so that she can determine which one is dangerous and thus should be avoided. Last, but surely not least, she needs to decide whether or not to trust Snape and his answers. I still don't understand why she isn't analyzing the erotic nature of her encounters with Snape more closely. Dose she believe it is only to distract her and nothing else? Why then, did Snape choose that tactic instead of something else? Also, what specifically are the present circumstances that prevent Snape from altering reality? And what circumstances would allow him to alter reality. Doesn't he see her after he leaves the love bites on her body? OOOOOO, is Snape a virgin?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Wow, I really love your reviews! :-) Hermione isn't asking those questions because, first, they're not the things she really wants to know, and second, because she doesn't 100% believe in divination.
Silly girl!!! Why try to summons Snape if you are afraid of his manifestation? He has done nothing threatening so far. She drank wine knowing she was likely to see him in that state. The whole thing is creepy. So why is his touch more frightening than his presense? Is it only because it is unexpected? And why can't he tell her in a dream? What are the limitations to dreams? Is his inablitly inherint to dreaming or specific to his individual situation? In the other stories she has read the manisfestation is able to specifically pronounce the persons doom on a given day or if they don't take some specific action like with Scrooge. Has Hermione decided whether or not to heed Snape's warning?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Yes, it's because it's unexpected. And no, of course she won't heed his warnings! She's a Gryffindor.
Is Cheat just a tool for the plot to give Hermione a reason to start looking into Snape's death or is he significant to the plot? Just living in Snape's house and the dreams are enough for a plot bunny. Cheat and the boy have some significance I can't see yet. Is the boy only a vehicle for showing Hermione another side of Snape? I think Severus saw himself in the boy. Hermione isn't curious enough about why she is having erotic dreams about Snape. Your mystery has me mystified. I feel like a lame brain.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
You're not a lame brain! But yes—these OCs are significant for other reasons than to be vehicles for other stuff, but I can't bring myself to give anything away! (Hint: the title is important.)
I guess she hasn't had time to wonder why Snape would be intimate with her with all the other questions she has. She needed to play the record, didn't she? I'm surprised Hermione wasn't curious enough to watch the rest of the memories no matter how maddening. It seems not very Hermione like. I guess she's grown up some. Is she still a virgin? Lots of questions and not enough answers just yet. I'm really enjoying it.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I always thought of Hermione being really honour-bound when it comes to people she respects—so that she wouldn't make Harry or Snape any more uncomfortable than she had to.
BTW- How did the pidgeon know where to find Malfoy? Cheat didn't tell it where to go like one does an owl. And, don't carrier pidgeons only fly to places they have been trained to go to already?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Loving the WTF smiley. Honestly—I don't know, I didn't think of that! I think I was going for something that was less owl-post and more pony-express.
Not a spirit, like a ghost. A soul, yes? He knew Hermione could bring him back. Why DID he let himself be killed? It was a very un-Snapish way to die. Snape would have prepared for a possible attack by Nagini the first time he saw Riddle use her as a weapon, long before he met his demise. Why let himself be killed if he didn't want to be dead? I thought Draco was going to say he had sold the library, as needed, according to the will. How had Draco seen the will if Hermione had to sneek?Hermione finally showed some sense by leaving the house. However, if she thinks it's Snape, why is she afraid of him?
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I'm not sure I'd say that Snape let himself be killed. You can probably be the most amazing duellist in the world, but that's not much good if your opponent catches you off guard with an... unorthodox... maneuver!
If it's a ghost it can't hurt her. It doesn't look like the other ghosts she has seen. Can a ghost make love to you? Speaking of which, nice description of her dream encounter. Titillating without being salacious. I'm creeped out. If I were Hermione, I wouldn't be getting any more sleep tonight. Or I would at least set some kind of wards around me.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
On the other hand, if you were Hermione, you probably wouldn't scare too easily—at least, not permanently. :-)
What an odd name, Teach. As in teacher? Can be unscrambled into cheat. Hermione sure doesn't get creeped out too easily. Maybe because the ghosts she knows aren't completely creepy or she has been desensitized. She has no fear of the dead. I find the department of mysteries and that room to be a creepy place to be alone. How does her thesis of the collective soul explaine ghosts? I'd also be creeped out about what Snape could have wanted permanently sealed up in that room. On the other hand, he gave his house to the best known Know-It-All of all. He would have known she would wonder about the possible basement. He had to know that if there is something down there, she would figure out how to get to it. Maybe he wants her to.I wonder why she has never asked Draco if she could look at Snapes books.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
I think you are the first person who's got the anagram. :-D
I'm still quite intrigued and enjoying the mystery.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Good, I'm really pleased! :-)
Not who he appears to be, I'm sure. He quirked his eyebrow...hmmmm. Maybe she could use a Weasely curse breaker's help with the basement.
Response from julymorning (Author of Soul Man)
Oh, but curse breaking seems like it would be so crude! Something I'm sure would offend Snape deeply.
